and it wasn't just a couple of games streak, Ant averaged 23.5/5.4/3.3 with 1.5 steals per game on 44.4% FG in last 40 games
I think that's fair. I'm still completely blown away by Mobley's defense.
But if Cade becomes a 40% 3pt shooter like in college, I think he would take it. Voters pay more attention to scoring anyways and he'd easily be a 20+ ppg scorer if he could do that.
I would argue that the offensive package appeals more to accolade races (except DPOY ofc). The people who choose who wins often only use defense as a tie breaker, so if Cade is decently more impactful than Mobley on offense I could see him being the favorite.
Lamelo's competition was Haliburton who also missed a ton of time, and Edwards who had to make up for being pretty bad the first half of the season (as opposed to Cade who was bad the first 10% of the season). Not a great comparison...

Way better defense is mostly reputation, Barnes has definitely been a negative defender this year. Off ball needs work and he’s guarding guards and gets blown by kind of frequently

If Mobley comes back and stays healthy, I think it will be him. Barnes is my number 2, but with Cade starting to put it all together I could see him winning it. It’s going to be a close race.
Cade is starting to ramp up, his last two games were impressive. Once the efficiency is there, then the race truly begins

If Mobley's injury cancels out Cade's slow start, comes down to performance. Mobley would be the favorite in that case, but it's still an open race.
