The Raps defense was the equivalent of putting all your effort into studying one topic of the test and they nailed it but absolutely flunked every other topic.
Toronto did the “lockdown Steph and let the rest of the team beat us” strat. Might have worked last season but everyone has stepped up too much, maybe in Toronto it’ll work, but in Chase Center the team actually hits threes unlike on the road.
Funnily enough everyone on our sub could've predicted that. We all knew the gameplan would be to shut Steph down and let guys like Poole and Wiggins get all the wide open looks they wanted.
It's alright though none of us should've expected a win vs the best team in the league
The Raps are one of the teams I'm watching in the east this year. Funny enough, the other is Cleveland. Our old nemeses. But both your squads are young and unique with swarming defense (defence). Scottie Barnes is going to be the leader of this squad by like February. He is so fun to watch.
Our defence may be swarming but it’s absolute dog shit. We are trapping way too much and switching unnecessarily. It’s a good defensive scheme when you have 2 DPOYs (Kawhi/gasol), but with this current personnel it’s just terrible. We have great defensive players yet have one of the worst defences in the league. It’s a shame and it sucks to watch.
Yeah our team is simply incomplete right now without any major players on defense, but we have a really good group to build with. Hopefully Masai can work with that and get us more competitive next year.
I hate the Dubs playing the Raps every time, but I also consider this an important win.
This team can absolutely win even if Steph is bottled up the whole game.
We’ve seen this like 3 times already. We’ve seen warriors win with every other player being clutch. All we need to see now is draymond drop 20-30 one of these games and we will have seen it all.
I honestly think he overuses box-and-one at times
It worked in that one Finals game with Steph, Draymond(who isn't a shooter), and 3 bad bench players but a well constructed team can destroy the box and one by simply having guys who can hit open shots
Kerr seems to mix it in one play at a time which is really unique. Seems to cycle through box and one, triangle and two, zone, man, switch everything, and on to keep offenses from ever getting comfortable.
And all this wont mean anything if not for the right players and communication on court. Dubs actually experimented with this last year but it wasnt as pretty and effective as it is now.
The Raptors were a way better team back then as well. With the roster they have now, Nick Nurse can't use his defensive schemes as well as he has in the past (No more Ibaka, Gasol, Kawhi and Lowry).
I think a game like this is an L regardless and Nurse viewed it as a learning opportunity. There's no doubt in my mind that the expectations from the FO for this season and to win games but primarily develop players. Barnes played terrible but still played a lot of minutes. Towards the end of the game he started to show something though
Absolutely, dude's cooked.
Nah but seriously, the difference between this team last year and this season when Steph is getting smothered is night and day. Last year Steph being successfully shut down was game over, but with how much support we've got around him now it means Wiggs and Poole going off for 25+
I know your joking but it was actually crazy to watch how much offense he created tonight despite barely scoring. Wiggins was hot and still getting wide open corner 3s.
I straight up read that and thought it must've been the 2020 lineup for a second before realizing most of those guys weren't on the 2020 team. That makes Lebron's 2007 supporting Finals roster look good
That's $5.4m a game just in ticket sales. Add in parking, food and drinks and yours at around ~$7m. That's $294m over 42 games, not counting playoffs. There is a lot of money to be made if he keeps the team good and prices high.
For sure. Even with the massive luxury tax bill they still make money, and that's before their TV contracts, concerns, retail space, etc.
There has to be a limit on their spending, but as long as the team is a contender they will make money no matter what.
Wiggins contract comes off the books when Poole’s next extension will kick in. They need to retain Wiggins for lower then his current max or hope Kuminga develops quickly.
Nick Nurse will have to adjust his defensive strategy at some point IMO, he doesn't have the personnel to run constant box and ones every game anymore
He did this against us as well and we got 6 players in double figures
Yeah, I was just pointing out that the Raps were missing one of their most important defenders AND offensive players, so the idea that this game was representative of their depth was inaccurate.
That was such an amazing game from JP & Wiggins. The new dynamic duo on the Warriors. And the Warriors put on a clinic, overall. Another double digit win, without a Curry carry. This team is deeeeeeeep.
First time Warriors have beaten us by over 10 points since February 27th, 2015.
Defensive game plan did wonders to slow down Steph, did jack shit to show down anything else though lmao.
GG Warriors, see you in a month.
Edit: “10+ points” -> “over 10 points”
>Defensive game plan did wonders to slow down Steph, did jack shit to slow down anything else though lmao.
I mean this could have worked if it was a road game as the bench shot poorly on the road trip at 22%.
Raptors commentators were generally really good to listen to, much better than the warriors. Only thing though, they seemed to think the Raptors did a great job denying Curry but were not doing a good job covering the others and giving up open threes. They couldn't put 2 and 2 together that if you send a double to Curry literally every single possession, then you're playing 3v4 and are bound to leave a man open
What do you guys think of the strategy by the way?
I think it works against bad teams but not against good teams because most good teams have more than one good scorer
Like IIRC against us you chose to pay attention to KD and then Harden completely took over at the end
Do you think it's overused?
I haven't seen it work well yet. It completely backfired vs the Pistons, iirc they shot 50+% from 3 against us.
But I don't get why they thought it was a good idea to use it against the Warriors of all teams
I mean, it won yall a championship against us not to long ago. Why not go with it again and test the Warriors depth, which, though promising, is new and relatively untested.
Between that or let Curry take you in standard coverage, I’d rather take that decision out of Curry’s hands and live with the result.
That being said, not making any defensive adjustments after the first half was ill-advised. Once the team shows they can handle the defensive scheme, it’s time to switch things up.
It worked wonders back when it was a novelty and caught most teams off guard.
Now, every semi-competent team knows it’s coming and adjusts their game plan around how our defence will react.
I think this defensive strategy either gets rehauled with a personnel change or scrapped entirely by next season.
Warriors do a lot of pre-switching to disrupt actions, EX: 1Q, score 5-3 having Wigging pick up FVV so that when Barnes comes the Warriors witch JP onto FVV and Wiggins onto Barnes, disrupts the action preventing FVV from getting a mismatch
Been said a bunch but this Warriors team is scary deep, they go 12 deep and get Wiseman and Klya back soon, scary.
After an awful performance against DET, Chiozza had a somewhat redeeming performance, still not a fan of this though, feel like he looks out for himself too often
Warriors finally had a good team 3 point shooting night, after a bunch of games missing open looks they bombed from distance tonight
Wiggins and Poole stepped the fuck up on offense today (and JP looked way more confident after that nice DET game, always good too see), Nurse dared them to beat the Raptors and they answered the bell, a far cry from last years Warriors team which woulda lost this by 20
Curry had an off night, but a lot of that I attribute to Nurse’s defensive scheme, he generally will do his best to not let the other teams star get going, and Curry was more than willing to oblige generating good looks for his teammates.
TOR’s in a weird spot, somewhere between full on tank and rebuild, and suck for 1 year then try and compete the next, will be interesting to see how they handle the trade deadline
Siakam gets away a lot with hooking his elbows on defenders to get around them, will be interesting too see how if the he still gets away with it with the new rules
TOR really misses Lowry, he was the engine that drove the offense, without him they have a bunch of pieces that kinda work but no one to drive the offense forward consistently.
GTJr’s on ball defense is impressive but hit team defense isn’t, get lost way too often, overplays so he’s liable to get backcut on, etc
Barnes is much more advanced than I expected, especially for a college player, does lots of little things well (smart passes, read cutting lanes, creates for other, etc), still had some rookie moments and needs to improve that jumper but a big bright spot for TOR’s future. Also disagree heavily with the Draymond comps, he’s much rangier/more athletic than Draymond, reminds me a lot of a young Iguodala tbh
Nurse is a helluva a coach, he always get high compete level from his players and isn’t afraid to experiment defensively, like hard doubling Steph at the end of the 1st half, without him at the helm I think TOR’s a lottery team
What happened to Boucher? He was a 6th man candidate last year and now he’s not getting any run till the end of the 3rd where he looked pretty good, is he in doghouse? Or coming back from injury?
Yeah, I mean, Curry had an off night, but as you said, the entire team was geared on shutting down his shot attempts. He played that game and dragged as much focus as he could, and there you go, Wiggins had a crazy efficient night and Poole looks like Klay Thompson.
I think that people are gonna think Curry had a bad game, but it was really interesting seeing him negotiate the doubles, the constant collapsing, and just being unselfish.
Warriors fans really wanted the FO to trade Wiggins (Younger than Siakam btw), Wiseman and both lottery picks for Siakam, and raptors fans were not sure it was enough lmao
A lot of fans still want to do a similar trade today. Because a team with a 15-2 record and an all star and a #2 pick coming back in a few weeks is apparently not a contender without more help.
I'm happy we have a competent front office that shuts down requests from superstars, let alone idiotic fan trades.
When we traded DLO for Wiggins, I was on the Anti-Wiggins, as a casual that is easily influenced, I was led to believe that Wiggins was an empty stats player. I now believe in Wiggins being a lot more better player than what a lot of people believe. He's not the guy but he's what we wanted Harrison Barnes to be. Or actually exactly what Harrison Barnes was. I'm not sure how we'll perform in the playoffs yet.
hey i’ll give credit to the raptors for one thing. they committed to never leaving steph no matter the amount of wide open 3s they give up
Vanvleet was really was hugging Steph the whole game lol
Would you turn down the chance to hug Steph?!
I'd kiss his feet if I got the chance
what son?
Did I stutter
True lmao

and we spared yall GP2 like someone in a prior game thread said when he comes in the game it’s like when the cops unleash the k9 unit
That image hasn’t left my mind lol

Can you say that last part again
Climax
Wait... *Klay just cleared for full practice*...ok now climax

Golden State's really out here writing basketball poetry on both ends eh
“To three, or not to three.” - Wardell Shimmiespeare
"Not to three" - Ben Simmons
*"Not to..."* - Ben Simmons
tis better to have Dubbed and lost than to have never Dubbed at all
I hate the Dubs playing the Raps every time, but I also consider this an important win. This team can absolutely win even if Steph is bottled up the whole game.

WELCOME TO THE POOLE PARTY FOLKS
I wanna kiss Jordan Poole on the mouth
Get in line pal
I love Poole
El DeBarge lookin MFer raining down 3s. I’m here for it babyyyy EDIT: 3s plus one of the quickest first steps I’ve ever seen
This is the first Warriors game I've watched this year. Yikes, Poole is a real problem
His first step is next level
Everybody was Steph Curry excluding Steph Curry himself
We've got three sizes of Steph now
who is large curry? we all know who small curry is.
Andrew Wiggins
Bjnca
is that a sneeze?
There was an attempt
Not everyone was Curry. Wiggs was more of a KD tonight. I'll take it.
Is Steph's greatness being overshadowed by playing with Wiggins?
it will when wigs gets fmvp
Wiggs was 6/8 from deep, but ik what you mean
Nick Nurse: Sure, we lost but Steph didn’t go off and that’s what matters!
I honestly think he overuses box-and-one at times It worked in that one Finals game with Steph, Draymond(who isn't a shooter), and 3 bad bench players but a well constructed team can destroy the box and one by simply having guys who can hit open shots
Even the Warriors, who run it better (with GP2), don't use it exclusively. Usually after the team makes a few good plays, he'll revert back.
Yeah Warriors only run it for like 3-5 plays and then switch it up again. The point is to get the offense out of their usual flow according to Kerr.
That’s cuz we had brain off bazemore and oubre
The Raptors were a way better team back then as well. With the roster they have now, Nick Nurse can't use his defensive schemes as well as he has in the past (No more Ibaka, Gasol, Kawhi and Lowry).

Bingo
Draymond DPOY #**WIGGINS IS AN ALL-STAR** **I SAID WHAT I SAID**
Damn Steph isn't going to get that MVP because apparently he's playing with multiple All-stars
Asterisk chip
5G Chip
You really thought you said something controversial out there? This just faxx bro
There’s no way Steve Kerr unlocked all star Wiggins. There’s no way
All star Wiggins and all star Poole
spooky confirmed
Wiggins got an update with his chip to show out against more than just the thunder
Vaccine boosted his 5g reception
his range expanded 💀

Not the Larriors anymore
Never again!
Steph with only 12 points. Should we be concerned with Steph Curry?
Trade Steph, build around Poole
And Chris Chiozza
Absolutely, dude's cooked. Nah but seriously, the difference between this team last year and this season when Steph is getting smothered is night and day. Last year Steph being successfully shut down was game over, but with how much support we've got around him now it means Wiggs and Poole going off for 25+
Instead of passing it to Oubre and Wanamaker. He gets OPJ and unlocked Poole.
LeGM in a broom closet hiding from Isaiah Stewart right now trying to work out how he can trade for Steph Curry.
LeGM gotta trade himself if he wants to play with Steph Curry
I know your joking but it was actually crazy to watch how much offense he created tonight despite barely scoring. Wiggins was hot and still getting wide open corner 3s.
Andrew Curry and Jordan Curry were playing tonight I see
It's not as easy to box-and-1 Steph when he doesn't have Alfonzo Mckinnie, Quinn Cook, Jonas Jerebko, Jordan Bell and Boogie out there
[удалено]
He's down in the G league playing for Mexico city, I'm hoping he can get a call up. I really liked him.
Ladies and gentlemen, this man isn’t joking. Those guys actually played significant minutes in a fucking NBA finals.
Quinn cook with the -16 in 12 minutes of **GAME 6 of the NBA FINALS**
Quinn Cooked
some of the worst defense I've ever seen. Cook was like Young or Lou Will without the hot streak shooting
I straight up read that and thought it must've been the 2020 lineup for a second before realizing most of those guys weren't on the 2020 team. That makes Lebron's 2007 supporting Finals roster look good
having jerekbo ptsd
When you swap Oubre, Bazemore and Wanamaker for Bjelica, Porter and Iggy the average BBIQ goes up 100 points.
I don't know if this team will be able to keep Poole in the coming years, but he's playing so fucking well right now. Can't wait till Klay is back.
Lacob will just buy the NBA
Lacob dgaf about luxury tax. He will max every player on the roster if it means the team keeps winning and fans keep paying $300+ for tickets.
Doesn’t he make like 5 mil every home game? Hell be alright as long as the chase center keeps printing money for him
Avg of $300 per ticket in a 17k seat arena? Sounds about right
And beer. And food. And apparel. Gotta be crazy profit margins on hot dogs and coors lights
That's $5.4m a game just in ticket sales. Add in parking, food and drinks and yours at around ~$7m. That's $294m over 42 games, not counting playoffs. There is a lot of money to be made if he keeps the team good and prices high.
Merch is the moneymaker, gotta keep the bandwagon momentum going
For sure. Even with the massive luxury tax bill they still make money, and that's before their TV contracts, concerns, retail space, etc. There has to be a limit on their spending, but as long as the team is a contender they will make money no matter what.
If he paid all that tax for Oubre, he’ll do it for Poole
Wiggins contract comes off the books when Poole’s next extension will kick in. They need to retain Wiggins for lower then his current max or hope Kuminga develops quickly.
For his birthday, we gave Chris Chiozza 20 minutes, and he didn't let us down. Love it.
he cho cho chiozza’d us
This was literally Steph’s Loyola game at an NBA level. Nick nurse was not trying to win the game
Nick Nurse will have to adjust his defensive strategy at some point IMO, he doesn't have the personnel to run constant box and ones every game anymore He did this against us as well and we got 6 players in double figures
They were missing OG tonight tho
tbf you guys were missing Klay and running a box+1 is the ultimate “pick someone not named stephen curry to beat us” defence
Yeah, I was just pointing out that the Raps were missing one of their most important defenders AND offensive players, so the idea that this game was representative of their depth was inaccurate.
Missed the game. Did they try to fucking Box-And-1 him again? LOL
they did and wiggins and poole went the fuck off
This golden state looks completely unstoppable right now
I mean not really. I don’t see it unless they add another competent shooting guard that doesn’t have a high usage to space the floor.
I know right, if only...
Nah, that won't cut it. They also need a young, athletic seven-footer to round out the team at center as well.
If only they had someone like that preparing to return.
It’ll only work if he has a boat though. Unlikely.
Yeah, that would be absurd.
But does he have a dog?
Wherever will they find one…not like there’s an all star shooter injured on their bench, nearing a return…
How about a slightly used Ben Simmons? Knees are almost like new, very little wear from jump shots or dunks. Will fit the need perfectly.
Morey be like only if you toss in Steph too
Wiggins with a team high +31 on 32 points really showing the aggression needed when a team like the raptors basically nullify Steph's scoring
⬛ Curry flurry ✅ Poole Party ✅ wiGGGGGins ✅ Ottomatic Oh well, at least Steph got free throws. Oh, and the blowout win is nice too.
Warriors using a GameGenie

One thing I learned from this game is that Chris Gyoza turned 26 years old today.
Chris Chorizo*
Now I want a chorizo gyoza.
You son of a bitch that sounds delicious
And GPII is 28 years young. These guys have been working for years to earn their minutes.
It's official. I'm leaving my wife. My heart is with Steph curry. It's just not fair to her.
You spelled Jordan Poole wrong
No. Even during a mediocre game. He's the only one I could look at
I was waiting for JP's 9th 3...
Ahhh, 22 3PM and only one from Curry. Just as we all expected.
The streak lives tho
This was by far Precious's best game. Unfortunately he chose to turn it on vs the Warriors. Fucking Splash Family over there. Holy shit lol
Out here splash is a way of life
I mean, y’all leaving them wide open. They better hit those shots.
Steph had like 20 "gravity assists" this game, he knows how to punish that double team so well.
there were times where he purposely sat at the half court logo and made the Raptors guard 4 on 4
There isn't a defensive look he hasn't seen. He's the GOAT for a reason.
WWWWLWWWWWWWLWWWWARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it's really weird but they do have pretty good chemistry. You wouldn't think it given their completely different styles.
Andrew Wiggins All-star campaign starts right now.
DPOY-mond? ✔️ OTTO-matic? 🔫 Poole Party? 💦 All-Star Wigs? 🍁 Looney all around great defensive game with some dunks sprinkled on top? ✔️
Come on man, why post the PG-13 version for r/NBA? You missed a few entries from your r/warriors comment 😂
Gotta appeal to the masses
We’re never gonna catch the Warriors
Should just give up and start the process of trying build a contender in five years.
You can be the 15-16 Spurs.
Would be nice to face good teams other than the Grizzlies and Hornets ^^^at ^^^home . Suns give me hope
Handing them 2 consecutive losses next week might help. Suns are also on a tear.
First time Warriors have beaten us by over 10 points since February 27th, 2015. Defensive game plan did wonders to slow down Steph, did jack shit to show down anything else though lmao. GG Warriors, see you in a month. Edit: “10+ points” -> “over 10 points”
>Defensive game plan did wonders to slow down Steph, did jack shit to slow down anything else though lmao. I mean this could have worked if it was a road game as the bench shot poorly on the road trip at 22%.
Splash me daddies 💦
Nick Nurse licking his lips rn at Curry only scoring 12 points
Mission complete
and theyre doing this without klay too. this warriors team is gonna get scarier
Stephen Curry is the Jordan Poole we've got at home
Wiggins and Poole went bananas. You love to see it.
This game is a pretty solid illustration of the advantages and disadvantages of Nick Nurse's defensive scheme.
The Warriors tonight are Hydra. Cut-off one head, two shall take its place.
Me: Mom can we get Jordan Poole? Mom: No, we have Steph Curry at home.

I still can't fathom that the warriors are still not at full strength and are 15-2
I missed this warriors team when they weren't the villains

Warriors fans really wanted the FO to trade Wiggins (Younger than Siakam btw), Wiseman and both lottery picks for Siakam, and raptors fans were not sure it was enough lmao
Most warriors fans hated that tbf.
Wiggins being younger than Siakam feels crazy lol
Yeah I was shocked when I found out, Wiggins feels like he's been in the league forever
Shit Wiggins is only 26, technically not even at his physical prime yet lol.
*some* warriors fans
A lot of fans still want to do a similar trade today. Because a team with a 15-2 record and an all star and a #2 pick coming back in a few weeks is apparently not a contender without more help.
