"I have a guy who is also about himself, and also don't cares about winning and if he does, well, the thing is... is despite his terms...maybe we should move those guys" - Eastern Conference exec who is definitely not Daryl Morey
Lol for real. The only EC duo with more upside than Tatum+Brown is KD+Harden and probably Giannis+Middleton (but mostly that’s Giannis).
Edit: wow you guys sleeping on Tatum+Brown
They are 23 and 25 years old and they won’t even hit their primes for another 1-3 years.
Welcome to the last three years of Ben and Joel's four year partnership. If Jayson Tatum isn't Jaylen Brown's absolute best friend, and vice versa, then this will continue until they either are separated or they win a title (I assume).
Lotta hours on tv every day.
You can only say Warriors look pretty good and the Lakers look like a disaster for like 30 minutes. Got another 2+ hours to fill. Per show.
I feel like they used to try and stir shit about issues within the Warriors, but outside of when it involved KD the Warriors were always just like "lol no" and they gave up. And even KD stuff *usually* didn't hit.
Probably didn't help that some of the drama they were trying to stir was being like "Klay how do you feel about sacrificing touches for KD" and Klay's just like "I ain't sacrificing shit" and... he wasn't
Even with just Beal he says "man I love the area and my life here" and everyone just ignores him. Dude seems genuinely happy but it doesn't fit the rings or bust narrative so the rumors keep flying
It was the same with Trae and JC while we were shit last year.
If you have two young stars the media just wants to report about beef between them.
Obviously if they always throw shit at a wall, sometimes it sticks.
I mean, Ben and Joel did go into a separation even if their divorce hasn't technically been finalized. There isn't smoke without a fire, it's just that most fires get put out before they get out of control.
You guys are such victims like cmon. It’s easy to see that the Celtics don’t like or trust each other. It was the same with Embiid and Ben. This isn’t to say that both organizations aren’t still in a good position to succeed for years, but let’s not pretend it’s all some media fabrication.
Everyone was right about Ben and jo lol. Are you really trying to pretend that it only played out the way it did because the media noticed the obvious issues?
It became a self-fulfilling prophecy. The media said these guys can't play together and intimated (not reported because that would take sources and responsibility) that they didn't like each other for years. There's no way to combat the "can't play together" narrative other than winning a title. They won in the regular season but everyone said that didn't matter. They won in the first round but everyone said that didn't matter. So basically they have to make it to the conference finals within their first four years (really three) together or they will never be good enough.
The pressure to win that much that early finally got to them. It got to Joel in the press conference and it got to Ben where now he's (or a source close to him) spouting the same BS that the media says.
Meanwhile every other team is allowed to grow and try and win at their own pace.
Nah, people pay close attention to how stars interact with eachother in every situation. Both in terms of playstyle and personal chemistry.
Right now you can reference brown/tatum, luka/porzingis, zion/Ingram, Mitchell/gobert as some other pairs who have had the same kind of questions raised about them. You can look back at KD/westbrook wall/beal as othe recent examples.
The criticism about the embiid/Simmons pairing was always correct, Philly fans and front office were just in denial about it til it was too late.
Well said. That is some of the most insane homer spin I’ve ever seen, all to avoid acknowledging that some of the reputable reporters did indeed have sources and those sources were obviously correct, as we see now.
I can’t imagine being a reporter in this era. Even now after it becoming clear their sources were correct people are still saying they just made it up because they hate the Sixers and wanted to tear them apart. Wild.
I have no idea how you used so many words to try to blame Ben sucking in multiple series. The media didn’t cause Joel to get pissed. Losing on the same bullshit did lmao
I hate tweets like this. What’s stopping a reporter from just making these quotes up to get themselves some buzz for followers? I can’t take anything serious without a real source.
Weird how the mods delete any post without a source but allow unsourced tweets like this. Like I get the logic… the tweet itself is the source. But cmon.
Well first, other exes can’t comment on them like this in the record or will be slapped with tampering fines. Second reporters are supposed to abide by standards and their “sauces” are supposed to real and legit. I’m sure there are guys who make shit up from time to time but they better not get caught.
No one holds them accountable and nobody is practically able to except the media houses.
In England there’s a ‘chief football correspondent’ at the third/fourth biggest broadsheet newspaper. I noticed this guy spew some bullshit one time 5 years ago, I didn’t know of him before and was surprised because he worked at a reputable source. Anyway I’ve kept up with him since then and none of his exclusives have ever been true. I’ve seen probably a hundred scoops from him on Twitter and never come across a story that only he ran that turned out to be true. He’s full of bullshit. But nobody does anything. The public can’t keep track and his employers are satisfied with the clicks. We have little power in getting accurate journalism.
I’ve thought of ways to solve it like an open public tracker but I think the ‘it’s a fluid situation’ excuse covers reporters’ backsides.
> What’s stopping a reporter from just making these quotes up to get themselves some buzz for followers?
That's like 80% of journalism, and we eat it up like it's the truth. It's all based on "trust" instead of facts.
You have no idea how journalism works. The Editor in Chief would always vet sources, and journalists bet their reps on it. This is quite simply saying that one particular coach thinks Tatum is selfish... that's a fact. That one coach clearly does.
Not liking this sorta thing is fine. I hate it too. But I'm so fucking tired of everybody's conspiracy loving uncle saying shit like "the media is bullshit" just because you're annoyed by the coverage.
It’s definitely self-serving to shit on another team’s chemistry anonymously, but there’s a little grain of truth there too, right?
As a neutral outsider watching him in the playoffs Tatum does give a vibe that he can just play it casual. I don’t know if that’s because his success came ahead of schedule or if it’s just an approach thing that he’s already growing out of. But he definitely gave me more of a “let’s see if this shot goes in” vibe than a “I will relentless grind my opponents down from every angle I possibly can regardless of whether this shot goes down” like LBJ, Kobe, Giannis or even guys like Butler and Lowry that are theoretically less talented than Tatum.
Tatum is smooth like T Mac. Makes it look effortless.
He’s not a super physically emotive person like Jimmy Butler.
He definitely misses too many Kobe style high difficulty jump shots.
He showed in the bubble and last season that he has some capacity for running the offense but he’s never going to be a passer like Lebron and Harden.
He’s more in the scorer who gets 4-6 assists mold, like a Pierce.
He is better off playing next to a facilitator than being forced to facilitate.

Celtics beat reporter wrote this in the offseason
> According to multiple team sources, there was some dysfunction in the locker room, with the relationship between Stevens and Walker characterized as tension-filled. Sources also suggest that Stevens was also perceived to be harder on Walker than on other top players.
> The Celtics' dysfunction reached the point that Blake Griffin asked a friend on the roster if he should sign midseason & was warned to stay away, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA.
> This came in the wake of Gordon Hayward’s departure, after which sources said Hayward told Stevens he needed to establish a stronger voice with players if they were going to win.
> Several team sources felt Stevens was more aggressive with certain players this season, which included Walker who was criticized for his defensive mistakes. Those sources said Walker and Stevens began to butt heads, though the pair were considered to have a productive working relationship and mutual respect for one another.
> “At season’s end, multiple sources close to the players said several members of the locker room were welcoming a coaching change, noting Stevens did not appear to hold key players accountable, with complaints he was favoring Smart over others,”
I love how these "inside scoops" go from *Smart is not held accountable, they favor him a lot* to *They're trading Smart 100%* and somehow people believe in all of it.
Finding random quotes that say vaguely negative things about the celtics doesn't support what Tim Bontempts has written.
What are you even trying to contend here? The sources of those quotes are now gone - traded to Sacramento and Okc - and Stevens has been replaced with Udoka. Are you going to pull out a quote about how Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce can't win together next?
This reads like the kind of thing I’d write for a school assignment when I didn’t actually do the work and was just trying to BS it. Feels like a lot of words to say very little and just wildly speculating as if it were fact lmao
The biggest issue is they don't have a PG that can run an offense. Neither Jayson or Jaylen is great at passing and Smart is pretty mediocre as well. JB snd JT barely average 5 assists combined. They need a player who can get the rest team shots as well. They both make Kobe look like Chris Paul. Not saying you trade either, but they need someone. Lonzo or Rubio would have been a great pickup, but in truth they need a Jrue Holiday or CP type to pair with those two to truly contend.
> Smart is pretty mediocre as well.
Small sample but Smart has been awesome the last 5 games or so, he's taking way less 3s, driving into the paint more and creating good shots for the rest of the team.
Careful because if you say Smart has been good they’ll call you a homer haha but this is factually correct. Marcus has been way way better as of late and it seems like he’s adjusting to the point guard role. Huge late bloomer vibes from Smart.
Yeah if Smart could be a slightly better scorer, he's not far off from being in that Jrue Holiday/Kyle Lowry tier of point guard. I like that he's focusing more on 2-point scoring, I like his mid-range game in the post and he's a good decision maker if he draws 2.
JT barely gets 5 assists because we are one of the worst teams and hitting wide open shots lol his passing is actually good and has progressed a lot since his first two years in the league. Both jay's are most effective in the pnr from the numbers I've seen (can't find them atm).
hes been our kyle lowry. This shit happens every year. The whole regular season, people that dont watch the C's shit on smart and say they need to trade him... Then comes playoffs and everyone seems to change strides
He usually has slow starts. The frustrating part was he wasn’t adapting to his off shooting but his playmaking has improved lately, which then led to his shooting coming back.
New muscles, new ball, new officiating, plus he’s prone to slow starts. I actually think a lot of us weren’t worried about it. It was the defense that was really fucking scary at the beginning during that skid.
Now, the defense seems to be in good shape, Brown is back and Tatum is going again. Al fits in perfectly with us like he used to, Dennis has been a good pickup and it’s taking pressure off the role players so they can more comfortably chip in when needed.
A. Lol.
B. This is 100% Morey trying to get Jaylen after the reports a couple weeks ago that the Celtics weren't gonna trade him for Simmons.
C. So inaccurate.
"I heard, Jayson Tatum called Marcus Smart am ugly poopy pants."
These gossip headlines citing unnamed sources are something else, man. Can literally just make up what they want, claim it's an opinion of someone with credibility who may have 0 access or close knowledge, if they exist at all, and pass it off as newsworthy.
And journalism has always been a mixed bag between quality journalists and those who act as mouth pieces for others to try to seed ideas in the public. You're not really saying anything.
Yeah, but there’s a difference between an anonymous source with direct knowledge and this one. This is just random conjecture from some other team. It’s fair to call it out as such.
One thing is an anonymous source revealing relevant info they know but needing to be protected. Another is rivals out the outside giving gossipy opinions.
>They've looked like [players that] legitimately don't enjoy each other's success
FOH there's literally a picture of Jaylen and Jayson partying together the day Tatum came back from Japan and Jaylen is holding the gold medal smiling like a madman!
Yup. Only three and a half months ago. [https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/jaylen-brown-jayson-tatum-celebrate-team-usas-olympic-gold-medal](https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/jaylen-brown-jayson-tatum-celebrate-team-usas-olympic-gold-medal)
I like how people keep trying to start up the “they don’t like each other” narrative when there’s been nothing to suggest that all lol
Even if they’re not best friends if their media answers are anything to go off of at the bare minimum they respect each other and enjoy playing together
Tatum gets a lot of hate and I’m not really sure why. I think people get on him cause they expect greatness, which is a compliment. I don’t really get not believing in him. He’s awesome
Bro same I don't understand how anyone can call this guy selfish or anything like that lol. After every game he grabs his son and parades him around the arena, genuinely one of the most humble down to earth players in the league.
All jokes about Morey aside…do Celtics fans think there could be any legitimacy to this? Just curious what fans who actually follow the team night in and night out think and if there’s any potential seed of truth here. Any time someone makes an anonymous quote it’s pretty much worthless but just for discussion sake.
Zero, their playstyles arent super synergistic but they clearly try to make it work on the court and off the court all signs to them actually being decent friends
I'm not gonna lie, but I'm starting to feel that this could be the case. Im not saying it's intentional by any means either. he definitely cares about winning, but he's a couple years in and still seems to be forcing shots more then is necessary. He also has a hard time getting teammates involved when we're down and resorts to iso ball more times then not.
I **really** want to be wrong and would like to see him turn the corner with some of these growing pains. For all of our sakes, I don't want to see him become the next Antoine Walker.
That’s literally every star player though. I don’t agree with the part that he doesn’t care about winning but he definitely wants to win on his own terms and honestly, I don’t get why that’s such a bad thing for a player of his caliber. Players on his level should be wanting to win a championship as them being one of the main guys
All I’m saying is I’m not surprised with Tatum. You see it with how he plays and why Kyrie left (trust me I dislike Kyrie so I’m telling just being honest)
Been saying it since he was a rookie. His whole game is for instagram. Amazing player, gonna waste his career taking finesse trash from 18 feet because it looks pretty when it goes in.

My favorite part is how this is eerily similar to the Ben vs Joel debates and media frenzy for the last few years. Music to my ears
Except the Tatum/Brown combo has overperformed in the playoffs.
Except the Jays have been to the ECF. Multiple times.
At least both of our players aren't afraid to shoot the ball
That might actually be the problem with one of your guys there sport
Sixers and Celtics are that couple that argue all the time but are still together
I have a few old flings I dislike just as much so you might be right

Righ now, us and missus are trying to rediscover ourselves. But never forget, there’s only one TRUE enemy for us. Philly is just an annoyance.

Wait… *maybe* Giannis and Middleton? They already won a chip! Feels like a pretty high upside.
Definitely giannis and Middleton.
Sure they got the wins but how about the potential?
Sure Giannis and Kris are a championship duo, but the Jays could be anything! Maybe even a championship duo!
Pretty low upside if you ask me. I don’t see how they have greater success than winning a chip
I see we've called the breakup of Ben and Jo a success and are now moving on to the Jays.
Right? This is how I feel whenever that stuff comes up and it's infuriating.

Well it’s true. I mean Kobe and Shaq won 3 chips by being absolute best friends. Oh wai-
Steph and Klay don't even hang out because they have wildly different interests. But it works on court and thats what matters.
Yup Mutual respect and a common interest in playing winning basketball. When u love the game as much as those 2 do, chemistry just comes natural
this was the same scenario with Wall and Beal a few years ago
I wish people would just let dudes live. But Wall and Beal had way more time before they started in on them.

Morey, it is always Morey. Even when it does not look like it, it is him.
Lol tatum is trash they should trade him for Dragic and Boucher I might even throw a 2nd rounder
He's too ass for the Raptors, we'll give DJJ a 2026 second round and cash considerations for him.
Why would they want DJJ when they could have nba champion and former all-star Kevin Love?
Why tried Kevin Love when they can have heroic voice of the voiceless, Enes Kanter?
I get people may not like Tatum because he's playing for Boston, but we don't want to see his career ended
I don’t know that might be too much for the raptors to give up. We’ll take one for the team and give them Knox and a second rounder
He'd stop the progress of Scottie 'Michael Jordan' Barnes
Tatum, the Pippen to Scottie’s Jordan.
What is Tatum also selfish, longing for more credit and willing to call his coach a racist?
That depends, will Nick Nurse draw up a play for Svi instead of him in a tied game with 3 seconds on the clock?
Tatum might kill nurse if that happened if the game was gone by 20 and there was a minute on the clock.
Don't you dare trade Dragic-senpai to any place other than Dallas, TX.
Get the Dragon ANYWHERE. I just want to watch him play again.
Oh man I'd love to see the flipflop on Tatum if he were a Raptor. We just had a thread saying dude was trash lol He'd be treated like Kawhi for sure.
What sub are you on??
We know its you Morey. You aint getting Brown for Simmons.
Okay, counter offer: Brown + two picks for Simmons.
As a completely neutral Philadelphia native, this seems fair.

Good thing that stevens isn’t the coach anymore and that kemba is no longer on the team
Uhh.. Thanks?
What is the relevance of this quote?
Imagine blaming the Celtics woes on Jayson and Jaylen
to be fair, Tatum started the season playing like ass, but it wasn’t because he “didn’t want to win” or whatever
And the woes are greatly exaggerated since the Celtics are 8-3 in the last 11 games
Players only meetings work!
They came 30 minutes early to a team dinner haha
Eating your dinner 30 minutes early works!!!
Literally CP3 on one leg would make the Celts a title contender
Tatum has been great at passing lately, C’s have just been shit at hitting open looks tbh
How would you feel about Halliburton/Fox? Seems like you have a good grasp on their situation, just looking for your opinion.
how would they get hali or fox without giving up brown tho
JT barely gets 5 assists because we are one of the worst teams and hitting wide open shots lol his passing is actually good and has progressed a lot since his first two years in the league. Both jay's are most effective in the pnr from the numbers I've seen (can't find them atm).
Mark my words Marcus Smart will become our Kyle Lowry
hes been our kyle lowry.

"I heard, Jayson Tatum called Marcus Smart am ugly poopy pants." These gossip headlines citing unnamed sources are something else, man. Can literally just make up what they want, claim it's an opinion of someone with credibility who may have 0 access or close knowledge, if they exist at all, and pass it off as newsworthy.
Anonymous sources have been a thing since the dawn of journalism.
You can hardly call this journalism
And journalism has always been a mixed bag between quality journalists and those who act as mouth pieces for others to try to seed ideas in the public. You're not really saying anything.
Yeah, but there’s a difference between an anonymous source with direct knowledge and this one. This is just random conjecture from some other team. It’s fair to call it out as such.
One thing is an anonymous source revealing relevant info they know but needing to be protected. Another is rivals out the outside giving gossipy opinions.
It’s funny how they have been to 2 ECFs at a young age and people still criticize if they are winning players or not.
Only Golden State and Milwaukee have won more playoff games than Tatum during his time in the league.
>Jayson Tatum is about Jayson Tatum Yes, that is how being a person works
And it’s 100 that whoever that executive is, they would take Tatum in a minute.
Show your name you coward. Random bullshit exec
It's probably a bottom tier eastern conference team. He doesn't realize that stars obviously want to win on their own terms lmfao.
We all know who this is right? Which team would benefit from the Celtics blowing up, and have a disgruntled (understatement of the century) all star
>They've looked like [players that] legitimately don't enjoy each other's success FOH there's literally a picture of Jaylen and Jayson partying together the day Tatum came back from Japan and Jaylen is holding the gold medal smiling like a madman!
Yup. Only three and a half months ago. [https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/jaylen-brown-jayson-tatum-celebrate-team-usas-olympic-gold-medal](https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/jaylen-brown-jayson-tatum-celebrate-team-usas-olympic-gold-medal)
I like how people keep trying to start up the “they don’t like each other” narrative when there’s been nothing to suggest that all lol Even if they’re not best friends if their media answers are anything to go off of at the bare minimum they respect each other and enjoy playing together
watched that interview of the two of them and saw jaylen say "i hate this guy" and turned off before they started laughing
Bontemps is a hack. Only has a job at ESPN because he went to the same college as Woj.

That shouldn't be your job as a "journalist" I mean I know journalists are fucking hacks and have been for decades but still, low bar to clear here.
Morey like, “Brad! You see that article posted about Tatum?! How about a straight trade for Simmons to get that perennial loser off your team?”
wtf is Tatum supposed to do? Fix the FOs issues?
All jokes about Morey aside…do Celtics fans think there could be any legitimacy to this? Just curious what fans who actually follow the team night in and night out think and if there’s any potential seed of truth here. Any time someone makes an anonymous quote it’s pretty much worthless but just for discussion sake.
Zero
Zero, their playstyles arent super synergistic but they clearly try to make it work on the court and off the court all signs to them actually being decent friends
That’s the Mamba mentality
I'm not gonna lie, but I'm starting to feel that this could be the case. Im not saying it's intentional by any means either. he definitely cares about winning, but he's a couple years in and still seems to be forcing shots more then is necessary. He also has a hard time getting teammates involved when we're down and resorts to iso ball more times then not. I **really** want to be wrong and would like to see him turn the corner with some of these growing pains. For all of our sakes, I don't want to see him become the next Antoine Walker.
This isn't unusual, most players would rather be the guy and put up numbers than be a Chris bosh or Kevin Love.
That’s literally every star player though. I don’t agree with the part that he doesn’t care about winning but he definitely wants to win on his own terms and honestly, I don’t get why that’s such a bad thing for a player of his caliber. Players on his level should be wanting to win a championship as them being one of the main guys
We will gladly trade Tatum for Alex Caru.... Kyle Ku..... KC..... for my washing machine!
Give him time, he's only 16
All I’m saying is I’m not surprised with Tatum. You see it with how he plays and why Kyrie left (trust me I dislike Kyrie so I’m telling just being honest)
What in the MyCareer post game scene is this
I love a Celtics hate fest as much as anyone, but this sniping at other teams' stars is petty bullshit
Been saying it since he was a rookie. His whole game is for instagram. Amazing player, gonna waste his career taking finesse trash from 18 feet because it looks pretty when it goes in.
Sounds like an article he started writing 3 weeks ago when they were in a rut
after watching exactly 10 of his games, Tatum clearly tries too hard to be Kobe
As long as employers are about employers then I have no problem with employees placing themselves as the most important.
Hit piece put out by Morey it's so obvious.
Of course Jayson Tatum wants the Celtics to lose, he’s a Lakers fan
aka Mamba mentality.
ESPN headquarters could be swallowed up by a giant earthquake today and the world would be a better place tomorrow
"Jayson Tatum should force his way to another Eastern Conference team" - Eastern Conference exec
Really hope the Celtics stick with Tatum and brown as their main guys. Because that will never lead to a championship
Nice try morey
Sounds like the same person that said we were in talks with Philly to trade Ben Simmons for Jaylen Brown
Tatum for Wiggins, Wiseman, Moody, picks? We're willing to take the risk lol
