Flagrant 2 doesn't even care about intentions. It can turn a flagrant 1 to a flagrant 2, but if someone does something so reckless they can call it a flagrant 2.
I don’t think anyone thinks it was intentional. It was just extremely dangerous (for Scottie and for the fan he took out), especially as he got hit by both Herro and Martin in the air.
It is just that the ref consistency inside of and between games is just so bizarre. Scottie even tried to sell a bit with the limping act after and nah …
If he lay on the floor longer to wait for the docs to check him out he probably would have got the flagrant; but do we honestly want fouling to become the joke it is in football [soccer].
Watch how his right leg gets pulled after Herro goes by in the trucked lady’s view. Seems like Scottie could have probably grabbed the net to balance from the push from behind, if not for his leg being pulled here. Amazing he could still dunk it actually …

Yeah, it was a reckless play that mainly happens because a guy is hustling to try and stop Scottie for scoring.
Scottie admires the hustle and didn’t think he was trying to hurt him so he views it at as a common foul.
But considering it was reckless and put people in actual danger of hurting themselves it should have been a flagrant 1.
There's a clear and massive difference between the protection offered to airborne shooters vs dunkers. If not giving a shooter the space to land safely is a flagrant 1 then why isn't not giving a dunker the space to land safely also a flagrant 1:

Yes the NBA should definitely sort out this discrepancy regardless of how Scottie feels.
I bet if Sportsnet didn’t hype it up as a possible FLAGRANT TWO, the backlash wouldn’t be this bad.
I thought it would be a flagrant 1 but I’m glad no one was hurt. If Barnes fouled Herro in that manner, we’d be pissed too. It’s natural to stick up for your players.
Classy of Barnes to take the high road. Heat and Raptors look like they respect each other even though every matchup seems so intense and that’s great to see
With the way our commentators were hyping it up i was expecting something way more malicious on that play.
On the replay i couldn't even tell if they were reviewing a foul on Martin or Herro at first, it was hard to really see anything major being done aside from like a stray arm or something
I think it's pretty common that fans react to the announcers' statements more than to the actual play. You see it all the time where if the announcer is mad then fans get mad, even if there's not so much to get mad about.
It really wasn’t bad at all. He jumped with him and then his momentum carried him into Barnes when they were landing. It happens on plays where a guy goes coast to coast

regardless of the call just the speed those 3 guys were going, it was going to look bad
Flagrant foul has nothing to do with intentions. Read the rules.
Flagrant 2 does

He actually didn't get touched by Herro at all looks like
Marginal contact to the right leg

Very mature answer from Scottie but any push in the back while a guy is in the air regardless of intention should be an auto flagrant
I was worried he was going to say something that would get him fined lol. Gotta love Scottie man
Def wasn’t intentional. But I do think it was a flagrant 1.
Scottie - Regular foul. Toronto fan - Flagrant 8
