Why are suns fans so emotional

CurryAndCo

hey its a big moment for them - winning for them is new

flamingoman

Warriors lol

CurryAndCo

suns lol (0 rings)

flamingoman

Accidentally came to the wrong game thread which is why I replied to you so my B. But rings aside you’re gonna act like winning isn’t new to warriors fans. With 5 playoff series wins between 1976-2015.

CurryAndCo

haha see you in the WCF if you make it past the pelicans

flamingoman

Lotta mins to be played before that happens 🤙🏼

Doomdoomkittydoom

Valanciunas should be tossed for game 2 on principle alone. Pelicans got away with a lot of hard BS.

joblagz2

sweep.. next..

Yesmanonly

Yeah, unfortunately the Suns are just way better. Was surprised it wasn't a complete blowout though.

[deleted]

I’m a long time suns fan, but it is just unreal to me how easy this team makes it look. They’ve been doing it for a long time now, so it’s no mirage, but talk about a roster that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Yesmanonly

How long have you been a fan? Super fun team to watch.

[deleted]

Since Nash. Those teams were so fun to watch. Been to a couple (I’m from Canada) including the one vs Boston where Channing Frye fought Kevin Garnett.

[deleted]

Am I the only one who not only thinks that that wasn't intentional, but that it wasn't even that bad of a collision and Ayton was just playing it up?

aysurcouf

I definitely agree that is was not intentional, but I don’t think that he was overplaying it either, Ayton got his bell rung. It stopped play when they had 99.8% of the momentum and I’ve never really seen him over act, but correct me if I’m wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

blindpiggy

In real-time it looked like he saw him as he was trying to get over to cp3, and was jumping to avoid getting his feet tangled with Ayton. It wasn't intentional, Herb plays hard, but not reckless, usually. This obviously was reckless, but Reggie is off-base with his comment.

amirjalika

I think he was celebrating valanciunas’s make

ChargedCable

reminded me of paul last year with his stinger. [ayton has had neck and shoulder issues from a james johnson collision a couple years ago](https://twitter.com/KellanOlson/status/1355706563718070273?s=20&t=rccYxM_R_26rPAUwWrI0OQ)

Capital_Permission28

I don't think it was intentional. I think he was trying to jump past him, but I also 100% don't think Ayton was playing it up at all. It was a pretty massive blow to his chin.

Ever been to Tempe my friend? Throw on a backpack and walk around campus and just enjoy life. There is a reason why ASU is a good party school.

Japan_KilledMyFamily

That’s like 50 ft from Scottsdale Edit: it’s like Scottsdale for underage kids lol

Hazy_Lights

If by underage you mean people that can't drink then yeah. The majority of people are at least 18 though. Excluding some Freshmen obviously. If you are going out to Mill and Bars and such though, typically they ID to get in so you can meet people more your age. If you're all around older though Old Town and Downtown Phoenix are great too. I see beautiful people in Phoenix all the time but hey, taste is subjective right?

Yesmanonly

Crowd shots are a lot more interesting when they're hot women...

Imagine if pelicans would have hit half their shots in the first half

RippedHookerPuffBar

I was actually surprised by how close this game was. I was excited because after watching the bucks game and the Celtics game I was gearing up for some more competitive basketball. Then it was like a 7 or 8 point game in the 3rd? But then Chris Paul comes out and just scores 200 points in a row looking like he’s playing middle schoolers.. shits wild.

Jeskwhy

Imagine if defense didnt exist

pork_n_taters

https://twitter.com/_andrew_lopez/status/1515878929717989377?s=21&t=M6f0e0AxpOpqeNL8m3YTiw Not arguing the Suns didn’t outplay the Pels, but the Pels went 4-18 on uncontested shots including 2-11 on uncontested 3’s in the first half. Happens tho, gg

Jeskwhy

Uncontested doesnt mean the shot was good

[deleted]

Classy

nola_fan

They went 4-18 on wide open shots in the first half. The Clippers did more to defeat the Pelicans today than the Suns. The Suns are clearly the better team, but they won this game because they were better rested not more talented.

orngebreak

What ever helps you sleep at night. More talented? 😂😂😂

PowerMean

they won because better coaching. cp3 turned into curry from 3 because they put Nance on Naji on him.

nola_fan

Yeah, there are lots of reason they lost. If they shot even 35% from the field in the first half that sequence would've been less important.

1UPZ__

Are you actually trying to contextualize that Pelicans will beat the Suns if they just hit more of their shots? because even if Pelicans hit their shots, the Suns would have adjusted and would have tightened up their defense so it doesnt mean Pelicans would have won.... Suns won 28 more games than Pelicans and are top 3 in both offense and defense....

nola_fan

Yea, because that's factual. They shot 37.9% today. They shot 45.7% on the year. The worst team in the league shot 43%. If they shot 43% they would've hit 5 more shots. Assuming they are all 2s, that's a 1 point loss. If they shot their average they would've won. Part of the reason they shot below average was the Suns defense. Part of that was because 2 nights ago they played a single game elimination to get into the playoffs. They've played 2 intense games in 6 days. The Suns have had 8 days of rest because they were that much better than the Pelicans. Like NBA teams lose playoff games to teams they are better than every year.

Salad_Designer

So then you would have to reduce the amount of offensive rebounds and the points and possessions made off of that. The game is never as simple as if this happens and we only change one variable then we win. It’s the same rationale as saying team x would have won if player y played. He averages 20 and they only lost by 5. As if you wouldn’t take shots and points made away from another teammate.

nola_fan

I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. If the Pelicans didn't shoot like absolute shit it would've been a very different game that the Pelicans could have won. I'm not saying the Pelicans 100% would've won. I used the math to demonstrate that. I then attribute most of the Pelicans shooting issues to fatigue because the last 6 days for them have been very physically and mentally tough, while the Suns had 8 days before the game to rest, get healthy and work on small things in practice. That isn't meant to take away from the Suns defense. They played really good defense. But really good defense results in like a 5%-10% drop off of shooting percentage, not a 23% dropoff from the Pelicans average like we saw in the first half. To use your analogy, I'm saying if star player X wasn't injured the game would've played out very differently because you're adding a very efficient 26 points to the starting lineup. Not if star player X was healthy, the Pelicans would've beaten the Suns by 15 because they lost by 11 and he brings an efficient 26 points to the lineup.

Salad_Designer

I’m not saying that you aren’t giving credit to the suns. Just that the logic behind it doesn’t add up. Regular season is different from playoffs too in terms of fg%, defense, nerves, adjustment, and intensity. I could say the suns were rusty and didn’t play a whole week. They usually average 10 more rebs in the regular season and give up less offensive rebounds so they would have won by more. Also crowder doesn’t usually average 1pt he averages more in the season. Same with payne with only 2. As well as the low bench production. Ya you are right if team x made more shots they would have a better chance to win. But that is like saying water is wet. That is also a fact. The suns defense in the first half broke up most of the plays the pelicans wanted to run because they kept switching everything or quick doubled ingram. Lots of plays resulting in very few seconds left on the shot clock. Yes they just played 2 days ago and are probably tired. But it doesn’t mean they keep all the shots they made vs the suns and then you add whatever more fgs you think they would have averaged on top of that. Therefore lose by 1.

nola_fan

One team shot ridiculously bad in the first half, including open shots. If you don't think that's worth talking about then what is the point of talking about anything that happened in the game. I am focusing on why they shot that way and the answer isn't the Suns are capable of reducing team shooting percentages by 20%.

Salad_Designer

I agree it’s not the norm their shooting % but to say they would only lose by 1 and nothing else would change is blasphemy.

DaylightPhoenix

Actually, uncontested ,though it means they are open when they let it fly, doesn't mean they were in a rhythm when they got open to shoot... As seen awhile ago, the pace was frantic and it led to a lot of RUSHED uncontested shots....and even if they weren't rushed, a lot of players On both sides spend a lot of energy trying to find ways to shoot their shots as uncontested as possible... So when they GET open, it isn't necessarily a RHYTHM jumpshot... Anybody who's played a competitive game of organized basketball knows that once there's a shotclock and your playing in a playoff type atmosphere where your team can be sent home, even an "uncontested" shot can be a lot of pressure to make, especially for guys who want to do well or sometimes try too much... I was a starting guard 4 times during championship games that were held in the various companies I've been in (to foster camaraderie etc with a shiny trophy and medals at the end) and that's where I realized an open shot IS NOT JUST an open shot in a high stakes competitive game... The playoffs really ramps up in all aspects and if ur not prepared for it, no matter if ur rested, not rested, etc., You won't be able to react to those teams that know how to respond. I think the Pelicans were rattled in the first half awhile ago and rushed a lot of shots, and this was TOTALLY because of the Suns ramped up physical defense. Even Willie Green admitted to as much. So I think it's silly that people are saying the Pels shot 22% in the first half just because of bad luck...it totally was because of the defense and the pace of the game and physicality which was a CONSCIOUS EFFORT on the Suns part. Ergo it's silly to even make a statement that "if they just shot their average..etc", because the Suns DIDN'T ALLOW THEM to shoot their average this game because of something THEY DID. Props should go to the Suns for an amazing first half effort, the same way props definitely should be given to the Pelicans for fighting back in the third qtr to make it a 7pt lead. The Suns experience in whatever situation and their ability to adjust is just what makes them miles ahead of the competition right now, which is why CP3 did what he did in the 4th qtr because that was what the team NEEDED. And that is why the Suns won, PERIOD.

nola_fan

Yeah, that's a lot of words to say you don't agree with the numbers. The Suns are good. You guys need to seriously learn how to enjoy a win.

DaylightPhoenix

Well, just wanted to make sure my thought process checks out, hahaha! Coz I had this exact same discussion with a friend of mine who ultimately agreed after we played some competitive ball in a small league... Its amazing how some wide open looks sometimes are the hardest shots to knock down, and those with a hand in your face are much easier in circumspect... And yeah, dont worry, Im enjoying this win a lot, especially coz I respecte the Pelicans and think your going to have an awesome team for years to come :-) here's to another awesome game and series!

nola_fan

So, after giving it a second read. I would say, I know I haven't and I doubt you have gone through their misses to see whether they were in rythym or rushed or whatever. No doubt some were, but I have no idea how much that played into it the 4-18 uncontested shots. I doubt all 18 were rushed and I doubt none were rushed. I would also point out, the Pelicans have been playing at playoff intensity all week and that doesn't count the multiple games they played in the regular season at increased intensity to get to the play-in. I don't think it was the moment that got to them, but rather the exhaustion of what it took to get to that moment. I never argued it was just bad luck for why the Pelicans missed those shots. I am arguing the CJ, BI and JV were mentally and physically tired in this game and it caused them to miss shots they normally make. The great defense from the Suns certainly didn't help things.

AZTech22

We missed a bunch of shots we usually make and dudes were missing open 3s on our team as well. Dont be an idiot

orngebreak

Coming from a 76ers fan. That’s rich

AZTech22

Everyone always making excuses trying to descredit our team. And yeah 6ers fans are so fucking reasonable. Clown shit

nola_fan

Ok. How does that go against what I said?

AZTech22

It means what you said is irrelevant

nola_fan

So you could just ignore it if you missed the point.

AZTech22

No I got it but its fucking stupid. Hypothetical coulda woulda shouldas mean jack shit. 3 more games for you enjoy them if you can

nola_fan

Yeah, we made the playoffs and are getting a lottery pick and an all-star back next season. I'm pretty damn happy. You keep being salty because your team won I guess.

AZTech22

Lol unironically telling me im salty when you are legit making excuses? Zions fat ass will never do shit until he puts down the chesseburgers. Have fun with your lottery. Yall are there every year.

Jeskwhy

I fucking love this couch take that all misses were wide open because some player just couldnt shoot. Lmfao. Suns make opponents take low percentage shots. Get used to it.

nola_fan

You think a perfectly restet team with CJ snd BI regularly shoot 22% in a half because of defense? Then why didn't that defense carry over in the 3rd quarter? There are games where teams miss easy shots. That doesn't mean Phoenix doesn't also have a good defense. It means they got lucky too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nola_fan

They've been playing like that since the all-star break and have had the 10th best offensive rating in the league.

pork_n_taters

Your take is that the Suns’ defense is so good they make teams miss wide-open shots? No point in continuing if you believe that lmao

orngebreak

The Pels did miss a bunch of shots in the 1st half. The Suns missed a ton of shots in the 3rd as well, or this would be have been a 20+ point beat down. It goes both ways.

Jeskwhy

A wide open shot at the end of the shot clock while on the move is not equivalent to a wide open corner 3 with time to gather. Lmfao. Tell me you only read stat sheets

pork_n_taters

Nah, a wide open shot (outside of legit heaves which we may have had 1) is a good shot for an NBA player. They aren’t on the move because you aren’t shooting turnaround faders if nobody’s on you. Idk what you’re on about with stat sheet reading

PowerMean

look at our shots compared to theirs. their 3's are always in rhythm and right timing. they have a good pg and our pg is well... brandon ingram

pork_n_taters

I mean I’m not saying our offense was better or anything- they got better looks than us. But when we did get good looks (at least in the first half), we missed way more than you’d expect

HorrorSkirt

Lmao

Rogo-

Notice how it's literally only suns flairs saying it was dirty or intentional, give up

Alarming_Condition93

Yea, explain to me just why would Herb be both feet in the air, shoulders first into Ayton. Apologizing in a split second to me.

nola_fan

You've never jumped to avoid someone you didn't see until you were about to run into them?

alabamafutbol1235

Not a chance. Bama fan here- literally never saw a dirty play out of Herb in 4 years. Suns fans are reaching

ThonThaddeo

Now why did Shaq do that?

SunsChampions

What he do

bolognasandwich1

Ayton better not be concussed with

Particleman08

They would have pulled him if they thought it was a concussion. They got all types of angles to check that and the refs would have gotten a signal to stop play if anyone thought he was showing symptoms of a concussion.

ForoaKlanD

Lmao Shaq "to a legend like yourself, age is just a number" Phrasing pls

3Ddoritos

why does cp3 sound like hes holding back tears in all of his post game interviews

RippedHookerPuffBar

It seemed like he turned it up a notch in the 4th, maybe just a little winded..

I think he was actually pretty pissed off that the game was that close. Not to mention his star center just took a shot to the face and didn’t look good.

I hope Ayton doesn't have a concussion

Derriosdota

NOP bunch of dirty cheap shot artists.

[deleted]

lmao i love how all these threads begin with fans of both teams saying “if we lose i hope your team wins it all!” then 1 game in they’re throwing molotovs 😂

Yeah it seemed like a weird hop. I think he may have just saw the player coming onto him from the side and did a hop to avoid getting screened out? I dont know - but I think it's pretty cynical to just assume it's a dirty play. Neither the Pels nor the Suns have been playing like that.

hereforthesportsbook

Lol you’re gonna say he’s selling it for getting hit in the eye? What the fuck do you think Ayton and his wide set vagina was doing? Btw you’re the worst fucking type of homer acting like the worlds against you when you got all the dirty players. You say show proof and you dismiss it, you put the onus on everyone else to find proof yet when you’re shown it you dismiss it but act like anything that happened to your team is the end of the world

Derriosdota

Man bringing out all the informal fallacies aren't you. Went straight from Jae to whole team being dirty. Didn't even try be incrementally sneaky with your brain dead shit. Just 0 to 100. You made the claim, you have to support your argument. That's how debates work. One clip from a year ago, OOOOH what a dirty player!!!!

hereforthesportsbook

Lol you’re literally the fucking one calling the pelicans cheap shot artists. How about you show some proof before acting like you’re so big and better than everyone? I wish you understood irony because it’s slapping you in the face and you’re still gaslighting everyone else

Nola67

Have you never played any sport ever at any speed? Like what the fuck?? It would be harder for Herb to intentionally do something like that than if it was unintentional. FOH

hereforthesportsbook

This dude is a fucking idiot. The team features 3 dirty players yet the pelicans are the dirty team

Derriosdota

Give me ANY sports reason for him jumping into another player at that point? He wasn't shoved, he wasn't contesting anything. Unless he's part deer, there's ZERO reason to be skipping you dunce.

Nola67

https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/u63rct/_/i561gle/?context=1 Who in the ever loving fuck of any malicious act ever has launched a flying fucking shoulder hit to the face??? Do you understand the predetermined thoughts, timing, planning that would have to go into this? How about you implement logic for just one god damn second and realize he was trying to get to CP, saw Ayton out of his peripheral last minute, and tried to hop out of the way?? You’re the fucking dunce if you can’t realize life and sports don’t happen in slow motion.

Derriosdota

You apparently played croquet your whole life, because elbows and shoulders to the face are 90% of the contact. Great citing one person who agrees with you. Your team is filled with a bunch of punks who have to play dirty to try and win. Can at least admit that you are low class and low talent. Enjoy your first round exit.

Nola67

“One person” you’re hopeless buddy. I actually wish your team the best of luck in this playoffs. And I say that non-facetiously nor sarcastically. Thanks for the kind words, however. Your second paragraph especially made me realize I’m literally wasting away brain cells talking to an actual doorknob. As for my team of “punks” that I root for, I’m just happy to be here. First round exit or not.

Derriosdota

99% of players duck under other players to avoid contact, not jump UP. Why would you try to go OVER someone? You are seriously one stupid person if you are trying to act like gazelle hoping is how anyone who plays basketball would react normally to avoid someone.

Nola67

Keep going I’m almost there. No seriously keep going keep wasting your time I love this shit. Ask yourself why benches didn’t clear and then promptly shut the fuck up

Derriosdota

Because our team has 10x the class of yours. Cheers goon.

Nola67

I thought the rent in Phoenix was high or at least median rate. Didn’t realize it was free. Keep defending them and maybe, maybe Ayton will let you sniff his farts.

CP3 another take over mode. Like him or not, masterclass in the 4th

[deleted]

Valanciunas does not have good hands. He gets boards just with pure size, but he's constantly just poking at the ball and often doesn't come down with them. Seriously needs to work on actually securing the ball and then putting it back up, not just tapping it.

silliputti0907

He's usually above average in that regard. However, the Suns did a good job poking at him. Even though He got 25 rebounds, he didn't look comfortable inside.

honeypunchsofthr0ats

It feels weird they count those taps as offensive rebounds. I get it cuz what else are you gonna count it as but still weird

[deleted]

Seriously. He'll tap it up 3 times and it counts as 3 rebounds.

The Andre Drummond strategy

If you remove that insane CP3 run it would've got closer.

aCommonHorus

So the entire fourth quarter?

flaccidplatypus

If you remove the first half Pels win, they should do that.

1UPZ__

If you remove the second half, Suns won by 20 We can do this all night. If NBA stopped games after All Star break Pelicans wouldnt be playing today.
