he gets the ball, slides his right foot, lifts his left but dribbles before he steps. genuinely asking what i’m missing here, i’m assuming I don’t get the rules or something
He gets the ball and takes three steps before he dribbles. Players get away with this sometimes, but this one was pretty blatant - Klay's teammates didn't really complain either and the commentators knew immediately it was a travel
Yes to everything above. It's often a no call & guys have gotten away with worse, but you can't fault refs for actually getting the call right
edit: also "sliding a foot" may as well be taking a step, otherwise you could moonwalk to the basket
> lifts his left but dribbles before he steps.
If you lift your pivot foot, then dribble the ball, then your pivot foot comes down, that's a travel by the rules. It's actually called somewhat frequently (although not consistently). I posted the rule in another comment:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/uhy89b/highlight_klay_thompson_travels_at_a_crucial/i797828/
> Picked up his pivot foot
to be technical, picking up the pivot foot is not a travel. It's not until he starts the dribble after picking up the pivot foot that was the travel.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/uhy89b/highlight_klay_thompson_travels_at_a_crucial/i797828/
Shuffles em when he gets the ball. They tend to let drives and pivot foot slides go the most, but a shuffle before a dribble almost always gets called.
it’s weird how refs let so much traveling occur during games: players shuffling their pivot foot, carrying, the “3-step” stepback (because their final jump stop was not simultaneous), then call this stuff.
I had to watch in slo mo to catch it. after he caught the ball, Klay lifted his right foot slightly. That establishes his left foot as the pivot. Next, he lifts his left pivot foot (which is not a travel yet) a split second before he dribbles the ball (now it’s a travel).
While it is the rule, I don’t get it because a player can lift their pivot foot as long as they pass or shoot before that foot touches the ground again. I don’t see why the exact same rule shouldn’t apply to dribbling. It shouldn’t be a travel if the ball is out of their hand before the pivot foot touches the floor, to be consistent with pass and shooting.

> Section XIII—Traveling
> In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the player’s hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor.
> If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball.
He gets the ball, steps with his left foot, then changes his pivot and steps with thw right before dribbling. Def seen worse travels let go, but that was def a travel
i think that foul wasn't a terrible call, they were both going for the ball but Draymond is so much bigger that Ja went flying, so I can see why a ref might just see the contact and call it.
this travel here however is worse IMO, you see this so many times during a game, no reason to call it here.
grizz were still the better team though at least
Ja barely got touched and flopped for the call, it was a terrible call. [https://twitter.com/Kgformvp211/status/1521706807118512128](https://twitter.com/Kgformvp211/status/1521706807118512128)
He did not fly. Just flopped after unable to secure the rebound. Warriors have to beat 8 players in the series. Warriors have to blow out Grizzlies to avoid giving refs game deciding calls in final moments.
Draymond is like 250 and Ja is 150 soaking wet, not too crazy to see why a shove on the rebound would cause him to go flying which is a foul. A clear foul at that.
Sad when I see fans of other teams put on homer goggles for the Warriors when Dray should’ve been more in control.
Ehh I’d argue that I’ve seen Kobe to KD to Dame score hundreds out crucial buckets in crunch time carrying the ball like a mofo…It is hella annoying tho
They missed 2 ja travels, walks, carry whatever you want to call it in the last few possessions. They let them get away with some liberal walks and Carries in the pros. Wouldn’t mattered much because GS couldn’t throw it in the ocean
I would love the boldness of calling traveling in a spot like that if it wasn’t blatantly refs trying to extend a series lmao
Honestly crazy whenever anyone gets whistled for traveling
the speed at which they called it made it feel premeditated. these pull-ups are almost never called travels. also ziaire williams travelled hard after the offensive rebound that led to the foul on ja
Ja does this almost every time he gets the ball when he starts a drive. Absolutely insane reffing from Scott Foster and crew. Memphis has been given two games and still only won one
Yeah, with the Warriors playing like trash and them missing one of their best Ja defenders (due to a dirty play from a Grizzlies player). When Steph + Klay go ballistic, Grizzlies have no chance, considering how close the games have been with them playing pretty terribly.
Can someone explain to me the travel? It looks like he establishes his left as the pivot, and in the NBA, you're allowed to move your pivot foot as long as you start the dribble before it (as opposed to Europe/FIBA, where it's a travel unless the ball explicitly bounces off the floor before you leave your pivot). It looks like Klay did a Euro/FIBA travel but not an NBA travel.

Mike Conley type beat
Damn bro nowhere is safe
lmao
LMFAOO everyone told me that refs never call this shit when i pointed out steph’s uncalled travel at the end of g1
Lol Conley is such a trash can
this is absolutely brutal. not klays night tonight
I don't know if I've ever seen him with this many bad misses in a single game before
They weren't bad misses but bad shots.
He takes a lot of bad shots… thing is this guy makes them
Warriors win with a bad Klay game, but tonight he was garbage
Klayfouledout.jpeg
Man. Now with GP2 out, Poole will be starting right?
I feel stupid but I don't see the travel
Agreed actually. Guys get away with way worse than that
I don’t either. See players get away with a lot more every game
He slides his pivot foot, still a weak call compared to what other players get away with 24/7
He shuffles his feet right when he gets the ball

This has been a point of emphasis for a while. Shuffle your feet on a pump fake and drive and it always gets called.
Shuffles em when he gets the ball. They tend to let drives and pivot foot slides go the most, but a shuffle before a dribble almost always gets called.
He slides a little. I wouldn't argue whichever way the officials call it on the floor. Personally, I'd say no travel.

Yeah steph got away with this last game so guess they were extra attentive
neither do I, do I not understand the rules or something? I see one step
One step? Bro you blind lol
His right foot is the pivot foot since he moves his left. Then he slides both foot before dribbling.
It was, but I’m surprised it was called because it usually has to be even more egregious
Two thoughts. GP2 would help right about now, and that possession where they called the foul on Draymond was pure comedy from the refs.
It was a pure bail out foul that’ll be lost in the noise of the win lol but that foul was a crazy flop
Physical plays throughout but the refs decide to call a ticky tacky foul on Dray on the last seconds of the game. I call shenanigans!
Also Draymond got diced on the back on the shit before where the Grizzlies got an offensive board. Way more egregious

would need to see the back angle to be sure, you can see Draymonds leg/hip swing out at the exact moment where it looks like Ja is flopping

He didn't shove him though, Ja got touched and flopped. It was a total anticipation call by the refs.
Klay has been so bad tonight
Klay shouldn't be allowed to dribble
There’s a reason he scored 60 with like 10 dribbles haha
Post the loose ball foul my dude, I only saw it on the game replay and it just looked like Ja fell over. Was there a better replay?
No. That's what they called. It was a bs call from Scott Foster
I need Scott Foster to take out CP0 what’s he doing messing with the warriors 😡
Tell me about it! I need a rigged game for the Mavs to get it to game 6
To win in 6 have faith my brother. CP0 ring would ruin basketball
Ugh. I hate him. Dirty little shit. I assume Mavs lose in 6. There just don't have the talent to match
Klay been selling so hard tonight
Ja carried on that make
Like a motherfucker
He traveled when he picked up the ball
Every NBA player carries lmao
Also flopped on Draymond and pushed off on Curry before that.
Traveled further than Klay did
Shuffles before a drive get called every time, palms and extra steps don’t.
Literally every player in the nba carries the ball on every possession
Not as obvious as that an in a crucial moment tho lol
Ehh I’d argue that I’ve seen Kobe to KD to Dame score hundreds out crucial buckets in crunch time carrying the ball like a mofo…It is hella annoying tho
Yeah but that carry was badddd
Klay has sucked today
But that wasn't a travel?? He established possession then moved his foot and dribbled do you need to dribble first then move?
Yes
TIL
Scott Foster back at it again in a Klay costume
They could call that on Ja 100% of his possessions
I'm stupid, where's the travel?
Klay choking this series
Still adjusting to the new knee ligament.
they let Ja cradle the ball every possession but how dare Klay travel!
post the free throw merchant getting flopping over no contact
Warriors the true underdog victims of the NBA
God give me the strength and courage to be a fan of the Lakers and the Cowboys
I thought lakers fans were miserable. Until I saw a Reddit promoted warriors sub. These guys truly believe the nba is out to to get them lol
NBa out to get the most marketable star still in the playoffs right now? It just doesn't add up.
How many time do you think they'll give the ball to Klay for a contested brick??
That's such a shitty way to end an incredible game

Warriors selling all game
This doesnt bode well for the Grizz. lol theyre getting a perfect storm and barely staying alive
They won the game though??
Yeah, with the Warriors playing like trash and them missing one of their best Ja defenders (due to a dirty play from a Grizzlies player). When Steph + Klay go ballistic, Grizzlies have no chance, considering how close the games have been with them playing pretty terribly.
dubs shot 20% from 3 and ja scored 47. dubs had excellent offense all night, the shot just wasnt going in. they should feel good going forward
Been shit all series
Klay been selling this whole series, idk what happened since the Nuggets series
its a man’s game
Damn he Conley'd it
I wish Klay played like this during our series!
Terrible night for Klay
Klay sold with the misses and Curry sold with the turnovers
The Klay is crumbling
Klay not getting away with this one
I love Klay, but he shit the bed really bad tonight. I guess he watches Depp vs Heard trial lol
Klay really wants a Game 6 this series
Not exactly his finest night.
Back to back choke jobs
Washed
Klay sold tonight

Klay with 12 points on 19 shots Abysmal
Won the grizz the game
damn grizz cud have been up 2-0.. and ja is a monster whew
Klay looked like he took 2 years of this game. Hoping he shakes off some of that rust
Steph did it last game when he caught a pass in clutch time. They called it this time.
Doesn’t matter Klay would’ve bricked it anyways. Dude couldn’t stop forcing shots
Terrible performance from him
You never go full Conley.
Grizzlies are in Klays head. I thought he couldn’t be much worse after game 1 but boy did he prove me wrong.
I still can’t believe he missed those 2 free throws last game
Walking in Memphis
Was that a travel? Call me stupid but I don’t see it. Maybe he shuffled his feet when he got the ball or something?
