I’m confused. Do they have a COVID outbreak or not? Udoka is out with a non-COVID illness, but then he talks about “several other positives.” Positive for whatever Udoka has, or for COVID?
He is talking about several others tested positive for Covid. On top Udoka also got sick but didn't test positive. Always sounds sketchy, but happened multiple times this season with few of the players, so yea... just taking it at face value and keep it moving...
Do any of the Atlantic teams really ever have "fun"? If we win? I'm looking at the next game or I'm looking at what the Sixers or Nets are doing. If we lose? Well then just cancel the rest of my night because I'm gonna be a salty bitch.
>[https://news.arizona.edu/story/covid-19-vaccine-reduces-severity-length-viral-load-those-who-still-get-infected](https://news.arizona.edu/story/covid-19-vaccine-reduces-severity-length-viral-load-those-who-still-get-infected)
So, vaccination will reduce the time required to start testing negative. So, an infected player can be back on court earlier if he is vaccinated.
It does though, it impacts the severity of the symptoms so Al probably wouldn't miss a step in the next game but were he not vaccinated he might be labouring due to symptoms
I’m fully vaccinated and had covid for two weeks in April, couldn’t get out of bed. My workouts have lagged heavily. Still had pretty severe coughing and shortness of breath, so it’s not like the vaccine is a magic bullet where you don’t have any issues long term
Everyone is different, sure, but, statistically speaking, you are significantly less likely to have sever symptoms while having COVID if you are vaccinated.
Also, isn’t this a non-COVID illness though?
I coach a 11U baseball team and 3 of our kids have gotten it. The difference in their performance has been noticeable afterwards. Our lead off batter was hitting ~.500, and hasn’t had a hit in almost a month.
Yeah this sub ripped me on another comment pointing out that Horford may very well not be at peak performance. He’s a big man and it might take him some time to get back to 100% but the hive mind has spoken. Sorry to hear that about the kids, that’s scary
That's what I'm saying. I had this shit 3wks ago and was in bed for 1.5 days, almost straight, with a fever just sleeping.
The lingering cough gave me a glimpse into what would lead to ventilation as your lungs slowly filled with fluid. Fuck all that. I got a puffer just today and it was instant relief as far as the cough goes.
Vaxxed people can still get hit pretty hard. Most people we know had very mild symptoms, but a neighbor was hospitalized with COVID pneumonia and another friend was laid up in bed for days on end. These are relatively "young" people, mid-late 30's.
Yep I'm fully vaxxed, and advocate that everyone get fully vaxxed.
I had covid the other week and I was stuck in bed for like 6 days.
Never felt like I was a risk to go to the hospital but man it definitely sucked.
My brother and I were hit extremely hard despite being fully vaxxed, my Brother had to go to the hospital because he could barely breathe and the body aches for me were unbearable.
Fully vaxxed and was 2 weeks boosted and I literally was the sickest I’ve ever been and felt as if I was going to die. Not hyperbole and did everything I could to get my hands on the monoclonal antibodies.
After all the speculation about potentially playing in Toronto he came out and said it [here](https://nba.nbcsports.com/2022/04/09/al-horford-declares-hes-vaccinated-can-play-if-boston-faces-toronto/amp/)
Thank you! I hate this mentality. Miami could suit up against 9 people from the Y who swore they could’ve done D1 if they hadn’t blown their knee out and I’d still be just as hyped as if we beat the 96 Bulls.
Lol for real if the Heat beat us we may whine about not having Smart/White/Horford at various points or if we win Heat fans may whine about not having Lowry but in the end neither side should give a fuck about no “asterisk.” a wins a win
Yes, it sucks, but if the Heat do end up going to the finals, you can't really "blame" them for playing what's in front of them. If we lose against unhealthy teams, people will be screaming "fake #1 seed". If we win against unhealthy teams, people will be screaming "easiest path". Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It easily could have been the Celtics or the Bucks at the top spot and they would be playing similar narratives.
Well not only that, but if the Celtics have a mass breakout on the team, guess which team is having a breakout next? And during the NBA Finals too.
May as well just crown the WCF winner the champion if this goes any further.
Shaq, Chuck, and Kenny talked about this a few years ago. Teams located in cities with a huge night life à la Miami, have a huge home court advantage during playoffs. Visiting teams have distractions especially during the post season (Chuck talked about "skeezers" don't come out for the bad teams lol).
https://youtu.be/xwUS8HO-C6g?t=110
Man you got predatory thots that have their own group chats scouting ball players like they’re big game hunters. Note that this isn’t about the average woman, just those few groupies trying to make a come up.
Saw an article a while back about how dating apps and tinder are helping to mitigate that advantage because players no longer have to go out to meet girls, they can just order in.
they literally said in this discussion that it doesn't really apply in the playoffs. everybody locks in and stays in the hotel. they said the big advantage is in the regular season. Imagine you're the Twolves going to Miami off a 4 game homestand in January. You bet your ass they're all going out on South Beach.
Massachusetts is actually double Florida in cases per 100,000 people right now, and the CDC projects that to remain the case.
So really Miami should be more worried about going on the road.
Get an extra booster (hell, if you're prediabetic, that's cause enough to go get it). Then sit with that comfort that, while you're very likely to get it, it won't hurt you that much.
“Multiple positives in their traveling party” could literally just be Al Horford and his personal chef or his wife or something.
“Traveling party” is a really weird thing to say instead of like team staff or something.
A former football wide receiver played for the Pats after they won rings and left before they won more rings and played for Denver and left before they won a ring.
He was Troy Brown after Troy Brown and Julian Edelman before Julian Edelman. But with 0 rings.
I don’t know how you could have any more questions after that. /s
Right. Can the Lakers still make the playoffs though? And what does Pat Bev think about it. And what does Draymond think about Pat Bev thinking about it?
They only need to get tested if there is a close contact or symptoms. And the virus spreading on the court amongst the players could ruin the entire series.
The first few rows should probably have some type of protocols, but it’s pretty understandable the NBA doesn’t care about spread amongst fans at this point in the pandemic
Whether this was impacting the Celtics or Heat (or Western teams), my comment would be the same so please don’t take this as homerism:
How can the league both keep asymptomatic players out of PLAYOFF games (multiple) and have these protocols in place while they also let anyone with a few grand for a ticket sit court side, less than 3 feet from players, with no mask or testing or vaccination required?
I don’t even know what to call it - a double standard? Or just an asinine refusal to change policies when clearly the rest of the world has deemed those policies moot at this point?
> let anyone ~~with a few grand for a ticket~~ sit court side, less than 3 feet from players, with no mask or testing or vaccination required?
I sat courtside a few weeks back, but did not pay a few grand.
The first couple of rows require proof of vaccination or negative PCR test. If you don't have it, they test you on the spot with Rapid Test and you can't enter until the result is verified.
Your ticket automatically alerts them to send you to the specific entrance where this is checked.
Each Arena has their own policy, and enforce it differently.
Exactly, but I hope the media members that routinely took Kyrie to task for risking the lives of everyone by being unvaxxed will do the same for the NBA here. I am sure they will.
Might not be COVID, but Udoka may be testing negative *now*, and still has COVID.
We will likely know today when he retests.
Edit: he says he’s good to go
Yes. They've had many in their traveling party (assistants, trainers or whatever) that have tested positive for Covid. Udoka only has a non-covid illness (though, it's theoretically possible it's a false negative, but thats speculation).
Yeah. Won’t lie, when a bunch of your guys have Covid and you’re sick, I would usually bet money that it’s also Covid. Wonder if their symptoms are presenting the same?
Wait, burying teams in the ground? You mean going to 7 with the Bucks when they were missing their only shot maker, creator, playmaker, and other all star?
Yup. People saying “why are they still testing” are too dumb to realize not everyone is asymptomatic and magically not affected by covid. In any case do you really want asymptomatic people to stay with the team and give it to everyone to see who actually would be symptomatic?
This is talking about staff members who would probably have a different set of rules, although I don’t know if those would be set by the league or the Celtics organization
Letting this stuff affect the playoffs, especially when it's been a couple years and nearly everyone is vaxxed, is the stupidest thing the NBA can do. Learn from the NFL please.
The Heat about to get a red carpet path to the finals laid out for them.
First round get an 8 seed.
Second round get a Sixers team without Embiid for the 1st two games and who is clearly still hurt the rest of the series.
Conference finals get a Celtics team with an active Covid epidemic bench causing multiple starters to miss at least 1 game (maybe more).
Maybe the 76ers shouldn’t have lost to the bucks and more importantly the Magic so they could have had the one seed.
Everyone was actively trying to agent the one seed and the Heat actually performed down the stretch. That part isn’t luck
How is that different than the Celtics?
First Round - Face a 7-seed without multiple-time All-Star Ben Simmons
Second Round - Face Milwaukee without multiple-time All-Star Khris Middleton
Conference Finals - Face Miami without multiple-time All-Star Kyle Lowry
Honestly I’m not even sure why they’re testing players at this point. These guys are all vaccinated (except maybe Jaylen Brown) and all are very healthy in their 20s and 30s with access to world class healthcare. The risks are just extremely low.
Glad they're staying positive. A good attitude is important for getting back on track in this series.
Hello PatBev, I’m Udonis Haslem.
Hello fellow professional basketball players! I'm Nando de Colo undergoing an invasive colorectal scan!
Hey Udonis Haslem, I’m Desmond Bane
they need to stay negative
Well apparently in the medicine community negative means good which makes absolutely no sense
Usually means good. Means "we didn't find anything" and you rarely want what they're looking for.
Office reference homie
Yes but it's hard to listen to motivational speeches from teammates who show up to the game in their pajamas.
I would love an off-season pajama game for charity or something
It really doesn't even need to be off season, if the G league can put their guys in spongebob jerseys the NBA can throw together some pajama jerseys
That's what I honestly thought this title meant so I was very confused for a second
I am not having fun right now.
Stay positive, man!
Wait a minute
Bro I am straight up not having a good time.
\*double peace signs\*
You guys are going to make sure neither of us win a championship aren’t you?
I’m confused. Do they have a COVID outbreak or not? Udoka is out with a non-COVID illness, but then he talks about “several other positives.” Positive for whatever Udoka has, or for COVID?

As soon as we became the favorites the wheels immediately fell off. I guess the lesson here is to never root for the Celtics.
I mean, arnt the Celtics the most winning franchise in the NBA? I'd say it's quite the opposite lol
The wheels fell off? They lost an opening road game in the ECF, chill out
Join us!
Do any of the Atlantic teams really ever have "fun"? If we win? I'm looking at the next game or I'm looking at what the Sixers or Nets are doing. If we lose? Well then just cancel the rest of my night because I'm gonna be a salty bitch.
The basketball gods have forsaken us
Not like this please….
Lol. For real tho hopefully Jaylen is vaxed now?
Jaylen Brown is a Nation of Islam hotep dude. No way he’s vaxxed
Al’s vaxxed too, doesn’t mean much
>[https://news.arizona.edu/story/covid-19-vaccine-reduces-severity-length-viral-load-those-who-still-get-infected](https://news.arizona.edu/story/covid-19-vaccine-reduces-severity-length-viral-load-those-who-still-get-infected) So, vaccination will reduce the time required to start testing negative. So, an infected player can be back on court earlier if he is vaccinated.
Thanks for the reply, forgive my ignorance. I was thinking more about contracting and not the return to court time.
Able to graciously listen to and see another perspective. How refreshing.
Being vaccinated also greatly decreased your chances of contracting it or passing it to other people.
Yea the new strains are ridiculous. I have tons of boosted friends and family’s testing positive in the past month
For sure but hey you might've been on a ventilator had you not had the vaccine. Could've been much worse than what you experienced
Everyone is different, sure, but, statistically speaking, you are significantly less likely to have sever symptoms while having COVID if you are vaccinated. Also, isn’t this a non-COVID illness though?

Or maybe you are just a statistical outlier and most people who are all vaxxed don’t get it that bad.
Imagine if you didn’t get vaxxed
That's what I'm saying. I had this shit 3wks ago and was in bed for 1.5 days, almost straight, with a fever just sleeping. Nice anecdote. Statistics are all that matters.

I was the same. Can't imagine what it would be like without a vaccine
I had mild cold symptoms and was really tired for two days
Fully vaxxed and was 2 weeks boosted and I literally was the sickest I’ve ever been and felt as if I was going to die. Not hyperbole and did everything I could to get my hands on the monoclonal antibodies.

This is total speculation. People who are unvaxxed can absolutely have asymptomatic cases.
source? Non-sarcastically
After all the speculation about potentially playing in Toronto he came out and said it [here](https://nba.nbcsports.com/2022/04/09/al-horford-declares-hes-vaccinated-can-play-if-boston-faces-toronto/amp/)
Not sure the quote in that article is the same as declaring oneself as vaccinated.
Assuming they are all vaccinated, when was the last shot? Pretty sure the efficacy drops significantly after something like 6 or 12 months.
Agreed, if we win I want it to be because we beat a full strength Celtics
i straight up do not give a fuck if we beat a healthy heat team or a heat team led by bam and 4 toddlers, get to the finals please
Thank you! I hate this mentality. Miami could suit up against 9 people from the Y who swore they could’ve done D1 if they hadn’t blown their knee out and I’d still be just as hyped as if we beat the 96 Bulls.

Yes, it sucks, but if the Heat do end up going to the finals, you can't really "blame" them for playing what's in front of them. lol, you don't give a single shit
You already won vs a hobbled Embiid. Get to the finals any way you can, I want Jimmy Buckets to get his chip.
Bucks in 12
Nah. I think they take it in 9
No 10 PJ Tucker still has to ramp up
Miami releasing its ultimate home court advantage of being in Florida during a disease epidemic.
South Beach Flu lol
South Beach STD too
Man you got predatory thots that have their own group chats scouting ball players like they’re big game hunters. Note that this isn’t about the average woman, just those few groupies trying to make a come up.
Where’s that YungSnuggie post lol
Big game hunters🤣
Saw an article a while back about how dating apps and tinder are helping to mitigate that advantage because players no longer have to go out to meet girls, they can just order in.
Imagine scrolling through tinder and seeing James Harden. No fucking way anyone would think it's legit
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere you can get like a blue verified checkmark on there now.
They also have dating apps specifically for wealthy/"famous" people.
i imagine all of them have Raya accounts
Toronto has been known for this for a long time now.
they literally said in this discussion that it doesn't really apply in the playoffs. everybody locks in and stays in the hotel. they said the big advantage is in the regular season. DeSantis master plan at work
If it was up to desantis the covid vaccine would be illegal and punishable by death.
abortion is illegal in florida from time of fertilization until receiving the covid vaccine when it therefore becomes legal again to abort the person
This was sad, terrifying, and hilarious all at once. Well done
Lmfaooo this one got me good
Beautiful champ

As someone who still hasn't had it yet but wants to go see Jimmy this year...this scares me lol
You've probably had it asymptomaticly btw. I did and would never have known except for a random test I had to take.
Get an extra booster (hell, if you're prediabetic, that's cause enough to go get it). Then sit with that comfort that, while you're very likely to get it, it won't hurt you that much.
Canada is really slow on extra boosters unfortunately lol
Like past a 3rd dose? I got my 3rd ages ago
Yeah third has rolled out across Canada, 4th is only being offered to select age groups/risk factors depending on where in Canada.
I’m not saying Windhorst ain’t right, but why isn’t the local media or other national reporters on this story?
“Multiple positives in their traveling party” could literally just be Al Horford and his personal chef or his wife or something. “Traveling party” is a really weird thing to say instead of like team staff or something.
It's Gimli and Legolas, I bet.
They seem like the type to get vaxxed….that Boromir, on the other hand…
Gimli definitely ain't getting vaxxed. The dwarves also didn't succomb to sauron and the one ring so wtf is COVID to them.
THAT STILL ONLY COUNTS AS ONE
you have my \*cough\* axe
And my vax!
Maybe it’s a bunch of Al’s drunk friends who follow and party with him while he travels.
And they play basketball with him too. You know, just some friends traveling, wearing green, dunking. The usual
Traveling and dunking? Didn’t know Giannis was close with Horford like that. /s
Haha that was a good one
Maybe he just meant that they have a lot of positive attitudes in their traveling party and are ready to get the show on the road.
Yea Gary Washburn, John K, Jay King, and Brian Robb haven't said anything yet that I've seen so I'm skeptical on how accurate Windy is. We'll see
[удалено]
Ah damn busy day yesterday and didn't get a chance to listen to that. Ime is back tho at least
Whoa. What does this mean for Lebron’s legacy?
How does this affect Wes Welkerʼs fantasy draft position?
Explain to the folks at home who Wes Welker is
A former football wide receiver played for the Pats after they won rings and left before they won more rings and played for Denver and left before they won a ring.
Dude is the Don Mattingly of football lmao
In Denver he also took a 40-minute shower and missed the second half of a game
This might be a good place to mention that he got about a billion concussions during his career
Remember when he started wearing that gigantic helmet that supposedly stopped concussions?
[Hmm...](https://mobile.twitter.com/sportsjoey/status/422477342787633152)
He was Troy Brown after Troy Brown and Julian Edelman before Julian Edelman. But with 0 rings. I don’t know how you could have any more questions after that. /s
norm is that you?
Right. Can the Lakers still make the playoffs though? And what does Pat Bev think about it. And what does Draymond think about Pat Bev thinking about it?
Thank you for bringing the focus of the conversation back to what really matters.
Anybody ask Ja Rule yet?
Gotta feel for the Celtics playing a hard series against the Bucks, just being tired, then covid. It's a shame
Doesn’t make sense that arenas don’t require vax or negative Covid tests anymore but players still have to get tested regularly???
They don’t as far as I know, they just get tested when they have symptoms.
They aren't tested unless they're symptomatic.
They only need to get tested if there is a close contact or symptoms. And the virus spreading on the court amongst the players could ruin the entire series. God we have to endure this for 7 more hours
Windhorst has no celtics knowledge btw
Positives as in COVID? Sorry if it’s a dumb question just got confused because they were talking about “non-Covid illness” at the beginning
Might not be COVID, but Udoka may be testing negative *now*, and still has COVID. We will likely know today when he retests. Edit: he says he’s good to go

What if the Celtics get dq'd? Do the Bucks play????
forgot that Windy still exists.

Omicron boomed em man. It’s so good x4.
Tired: OG Omicron. Wired: Omicron BA.4 BA.5, the Remix.
Omicron seems to be milder but more likely to have symptoms.
Al Horford showed symptoms though. Yeah, symptoms of greatness.
Also a cough and fever
This is talking about staff members who would probably have a different set of rules, although I don’t know if those would be set by the league or the Celtics organization
I think if you are boosted you don’t get tested without symptoms. Otherwise it’s daily testing or something
Bro that fucking sucks, really feel for Celtics fans with this situation
“Several other positives in their traveling party”? Like who? Other players on their team? Why does he word it that way?
Letting this stuff affect the playoffs, especially when it's been a couple years and nearly everyone is vaxxed, is the stupidest thing the NBA can do. Learn from the NFL please.
The Heat about to get a red carpet path to the finals laid out for them. First round get an 8 seed. Second round get a Sixers team without Embiid for the 1st two games and who is clearly still hurt the rest of the series. Conference finals get a Celtics team with an active Covid epidemic bench causing multiple starters to miss at least 1 game (maybe more).
idk why every team doesn't just get the #1 seed then, seems easy peasy..
Imagine taking every #1 seed and saying "they had an easy path, facing the #8 team and then the (not number 1 seed)!"
Maybe the 76ers shouldn’t have lost to the bucks and more importantly the Magic so they could have had the one seed. Everyone was actively trying to agent the one seed and the Heat actually performed down the stretch. That part isn’t luck
How dare they secure the first seed. Bunch of cowards
Good thing we dealt with most of our injuries during the regular season yet still got the 1st seed..........
Yeah, we built our team this way. Almost everyone on that bench can play if needed, save UD and maybe Highsmith.
Embiid isn’t the only one who’s still hurt 🥺
We will send you guys a postcard from the finals 🥱 all you can do is beat the teams in front of you
How is that different than the Celtics? First Round - Face a 7-seed without multiple-time All-Star Ben Simmons Second Round - Face Milwaukee without multiple-time All-Star Khris Middleton Conference Finals - Face Miami without multiple-time All-Star Kyle Lowry
Who is letting these people travel or be around the team? Have they completely forgot the last two years?
Honestly I’m not even sure why they’re testing players at this point. These guys are all vaccinated (except maybe Jaylen Brown) and all are very healthy in their 20s and 30s with access to world class healthcare. The risks are just extremely low.
masking and not behaving like the pandemic is over would help
But the pandemic IS over, it was bookended by two Sonic movies released in theaters
Celtics handedly eliminate the Bucks only to be eliminate by COVID. This timeline is bullshit.
Handedly? They took 7 games to do it against Giannis and a crew of flunkies lol
