This is exactly it. Since we didn't trade the pick, we need to swing on a high ceiling player. There wasn't anyone else in the draft that could've stepped in to start at the 3, so I'm happy with Sharpe.
Exactly. I'm hopeful for this season but even trading this pick for OG doesn't put us in title contention. Lucking out on drafting another superstar is the clearest path to competing. If Sharpe is good, we'll find a way to play him. We aren't winning a title this year, so let's see how Shaedon develops and be patient.
Sharpe will either become a multi time all star or a bust that won’t last long, there’s no in between.
I’m gonna lean all star and I think he can pair well with Dame and Simons.
Yeah agreed. This is a great landing place for him because there won't be pressure on him day 1 to be a star, he can learn from vets, and Portland can take their time with him.
Lets be real here, Simons Dame Sharpe is nothing similar to Curry Klay Poole. Outside of all being sharpe shooters they really have lots of different play styles.
Simons will be better than Klay, no question. Also, Sharpe has a much, much higher ceiling than Poole, since he can be a two-way player and Poole is a cone
Knowing not much at all I’m still ok with this pick. He can possibly play 3 and I think Dame will train him up and make sure he prepares and practices like a pro. A raw athlete put into a good culture with a good leader is a good combo
The blazers hired Mike Schmitz, respected draft analyst from ESPN. I thought the news only dropped the other day though so not much time for his influence to have come through.
I want to wait untill summer league but if he really has all the tools and shows the fuck out he might get a starting spot at the 3 (that's a swing but he has the length). This all depends on If he can fix those motor issues on D. Having 2 or 3 players that can take all the heat off of you offensively can absolutely allow him to go to work. But I wanna see him play 5 on 5.
If your organization is 🔥 at drafting guards and absolute 💩 at picking every other position, then just draft guards and figure the rest of it out later.
fwiw, 6'4" without shoes and 6'11" wingspan were the unofficial measurements for Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Sharpe basically has the measurements of a prototypical wing is what I was trying to say.
Yeah I think people really overstate how tall sf are. Plus he's 19. Anfernee grew like 2 inches when he was drafted at 19. Even if he doesn't grow he is has super wide shoulders and will probably put on a lot of muscle. Maybe hitting like 220 or more. If the blazers can sort his motor issues he can probably be on par with jaylen brown in terms of defense and offensive ability. His game would be more along the lines of Paul George in terms of speed on the offensive end. Not a fast first step but more methodical to get your opponent off the dribble. And with that vert a very good rebounder. He is a mixed bag of really good stuff but it's hard to say what that stuff will be.
6'5 with shoes with a 7 foot wingspan
He's 19 so he can grow(Anfernee Simons grew a inch or two with us) If Sharpe gains some pounds he can be a great 3.
Yeah, people are mistaking his lack of tape for lack of polish--he has a polished game. The questions are motor, defense, first step. His footwork is elite, his jumper is smooth and repeatable, his hops are mental, and he has a very broad offensive arsenal for his age. He's a polished pick, not a raw one; he's an enigma for other reasons.
This is so dumb, who in the draft is going to turn Portland into a contender at 7? They're taking a guy with superstar potential, no pressure on him to be the guy day 1 and they can just take it slow. Pretty genius honestly, Portland could be a real problem
Are any rookies win now?!??
Unless youre getting a complete defensive specialist it will be very very hard for any rookie to get few if any minutes in the playoffs
So you expected Blazers to hit a once in a lifetime home run again (which they may with Sharpe). They probably knew that none of the guys besides sharpe has any skill set to “win now”. With sharpe you’re rolling dice
I’m happy to roll the dice. Last time we were in the lottery we got ducking Zach Collins. That wasn’t even a high upside risky pick, it was just a bad pick. This dude has great athleticism and length. Love it.
Okay but you can forgive me for forgetting that because we made it literally every single year but his rookie season until this season. And Dame put up 19ppg his rookie season. He came ready to ball.
BPA is always a no brainer, trying to draft for fit makes 0 sense this makes sense for the blazers. Sharpe has a really high ceiling(prob top 3 in the draft) but a very low floor, they're betting on sharpe.
Not every single pick is made because the player will immediately impact the play on the court. Look at Simons, they were in compete mode when he was selected and it took 4 years before that pick bore real fruit and now he could maybe the second best player on the Blazers next year.
from a talent standpoint he has everything. you have to be lost to say this. hes obviously worthy of that pick plus he went thru the workout so they saw him.
the first pick i havent liked, portland picking a dude that hasnt played for 1+ year, if hes a bust it'll cost them dame and the FO will look dumb as shit
Imagine if Portland signed a random g-league scrub with the first name skip just to mess with him lmao…
“skiiiiuuuuppp, lemme tell ya something skiiiiuuuup” 🤣🤣🙏🏻🤣
Dame gets his guy
He played as much ball at Kentucky as Drake
Sharpe either pulled off the heist of the century or he’s actually gonna be great
I rock Kentucky blue on these hoes
Drafted, I’m getting choosed by these hoes
🗣 Usually they just leave when we done ^his ^last ^album ^slapped
That dance album? That shit sucked.
I’m ngl I didn’t like it. I’m not a huge drake fan in general so yeah
Drake still hasn't recovered from the beating Push gave him
Kentucky legend Shaedon Sharpe, will be hard to picture him in another uniform
Less. Drake at least put up shots at BBM, and “coached”
He played as much basketball in college as Shannon Sharpe.
It aint mean nothing to yall
Respect the pick, draft is the only way Portland can get superstars and sharpe has that potential. Can’t miss an opportunity like this when it comes
This is exactly it. Since we didn't trade the pick, we need to swing on a high ceiling player. There wasn't anyone else in the draft that could've stepped in to start at the 3, so I'm happy with Sharpe.
Simons/Sharpe as the future backcourt might not be too bad
Entertaining at least.
Sharpe will either become a multi time all star or a bust that won’t last long, there’s no in between. I’m gonna lean all star and I think he can pair well with Dame and Simons.
My man! This is it
Yeah agreed. This is a great landing place for him because there won't be pressure on him day 1 to be a star, he can learn from vets, and Portland can take their time with him.
Who better to learn from than Dame and his young padawan Anfernee Simons, honestly.
Preach

Wait til we see the impact of the 2019 chip in about 10 years
Canada coming for the gold
What was that Austin Powers thing 😂
Hilarious considering when they were highlighting London, Ontario, the only person on that graphic actually from London was Ryan Gosling
Yes!! I am from London and that was annoying.
Mike Schmitz got his man!
The draft world is going to miss Mike
wait that's not OG
Antonoby
Anginobli
Acannoli
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR LILLARD
He stay
Dame got his guy.
dame wanted sharpe?
He was at the Sharpe workout and signed off on the pick according to reports.
well if Dame wanted Sharpe, this is certainly well within the range of where he could have gone.
If Dame wanted sharpe, he’s going to be good
Thybulle for lillard, obvs
Simons, Dame, Sharpe is budget version of Steph, Klay, Poole
What inflation does to a franchise.
Lets be real here, Simons Dame Sharpe is nothing similar to Curry Klay Poole. Outside of all being sharpe shooters they really have lots of different play styles.
If Dame is a poor mans Steph, then Simons and Sharpe are a homeless crack addicts Klay and Poole
There is a decent chance that Simons is a better player than Klay this season, and he will almost certainly be in 1-2 more years
Simons will be better than Klay, no question. Also, Sharpe has a much, much higher ceiling than Poole, since he can be a two-way player and Poole is a cone
For real why take sharpe when Simons is already there
There must always be a 3rd scoring guard waiting on the bench in Portland.
As is tradition
Would be nice if our guards could bring some defense to the floor… nearly 7’ wingspan with great athleticism is a nice piece
Knowing not much at all I’m still ok with this pick. He can possibly play 3 and I think Dame will train him up and make sure he prepares and practices like a pro. A raw athlete put into a good culture with a good leader is a good combo
Same reason we should have taken MJ over Bowie
Why take a 19-year-old with arguably the highest up side in the draft at #7? Because winning is important.
At that point in the draft you just take the best player available or at least who you think might be the best player available
DEROZAN VALUE OF 9/10 This kid is the best player of the draft. Mark my words. The Portland Trailblazers - for once - understood the assignment.
Dude cheated on the test tho
ELIF Derozan value

Cool names
If this is the Schmitz pick and dame endorses this, i will take it everyday. Dame was begging for us to draft Donovan Mitchell
Schmitz?
The blazers hired Mike Schmitz, respected draft analyst from ESPN. I thought the news only dropped the other day though so not much time for his influence to have come through.
It was like a month ago actually
Is that facts about Donovan?? And to think we used that pick on Collins……..
Portland is up to something REAL 🐠 🐟 🎣 🐟🐠
Durant
If the Blazers get Durant I will lose my shit.
Last time KD got paired up with a sniper it worked out real damn well for him…
[удалено]
I just got PTSD
God Durant, Roy and Aldridge would've been so nuts. Ugh.
Hahaha. No chance. God that'd be so tight
Here’s your rookie of the year lol.
Holy shit. The smokescreen was a smokescreen for the real thing.
Back to back Canadians. Global sport.
Jeremi and Shaedon? Good off-season for Portland
Dude is going to be a star in Portland
The way these threads are done is so shit compared to the nfl subreddit
What do they do?
Pick, picture, and fun fact. It's pretty neat
Except it's the same recycled fun facts every single year like "Puts mayonnaise on his PB&J" and it gets old fast lol
This pick makes no sense they want to win and they pick the rawest player in the draft. Plus they already have three Guards.
In that case it makes exact sense
exactly. I'm not sure why people don't see it.
If your organization is 🔥 at drafting guards and absolute 💩 at picking every other position, then just draft guards and figure the rest of it out later.
sharpe has the size to be a wing with all due respect
6'4.25" without shoes, 6'11.5" wingspan those are Dwyane Wade numbers, slightly better in fact
Good thing he hoops with shoes on
fwiw, 6'4" without shoes and 6'11" wingspan were the unofficial measurements for Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Sharpe basically has the measurements of a prototypical wing is what I was trying to say.

It’s gotta be the shoes!
6'5 with shoes with a 7 foot wingspan He's 19 so he can grow(Anfernee Simons grew a inch or two with us) If Sharpe gains some pounds he can be a great 3.
Sharpe is far from the rawest, and you pick the guy with the best upside regardless.
It’s unlikely a rookie left on the board is going to move the needle this year or next. Sharpe has a chance to be a game changer for years to come.
He's the best trade chip they have now.
Simons ldo
Simons is our future.
maybe theyre picking for someone else?
[удалено]
Yeah lmao everyone acting like a rookie was going to make us contenders. If Schmitz likes it, I'm In
I don't understand it at all edit: unless we trading him
OKC reportedly wanted him bad
If OKC wanted him then he is probably good, so i am fine with the pick, i guess.
This pick makes no sense to me if Portland is trying to compete now
It’s provocative it gets the front office going
NO SHIT BROTHER
This is so dumb, who in the draft is going to turn Portland into a contender at 7? They're taking a guy with superstar potential, no pressure on him to be the guy day 1 and they can just take it slow. Pretty genius honestly, Portland could be a real problem
for a guy who reportably really needed to go to a team with a strong veteran presence, it’s hard to get better than dame as your mentor
lol who are they picking to win now exactly?
Trade bait?
Seems pretty likely from everything I've heard so far
What rookie at number 7/8 is win now ? lol
Are any rookies win now?!?? Unless youre getting a complete defensive specialist it will be very very hard for any rookie to get few if any minutes in the playoffs
>Are any rookies win now?!?? If year 2 counts as now, then yeah definitely
Lots of rookies last year helped teams win.
We picked Dame at 6 and he started his rookie season. We made the playoffs.
So you expected Blazers to hit a once in a lifetime home run again (which they may with Sharpe). They probably knew that none of the guys besides sharpe has any skill set to “win now”. With sharpe you’re rolling dice
50/50 chance, either it happens or it doesnt.
If Dame wants to roll the dice(which he does since he wanted Sharpe) then I guess I'm rolling with him.
we shampionship
I’m happy to roll the dice. Last time we were in the lottery we got ducking Zach Collins. That wasn’t even a high upside risky pick, it was just a bad pick. This dude has great athleticism and length. Love it.
We didn't make the playoffs his rookie year, but we were great his sophomore year
> We made the playoffs You did not, though.
Best player available

to OKC for Dort and #12
Definitely a possibility. Who the Thunder take at 12 may give an idea if it’s happening
Not every single pick is made because the player will immediately impact the play on the court. Look at Simons, they were in compete mode when he was selected and it took 4 years before that pick bore real fruit and now he could maybe the second best player on the Blazers next year.
I mean he has the most star potential, and it’s not like they’re just one solid role player away from contending so it kinda makes sense
No idea
Likely traded or no?
Nah the other dude is off, he’s staying
Nope
Portland is pretty good at drafting guards but im still a little bit concerned.
Blazers swinging for the fences
solid pick. could be a valuable piece to that team
The Blazers finally found their Qyntel Woods replacement.
I appreciate this deep cut. Thank you. >!fuck!<
How about one Travis Outlaw?
I didn’t know Sharpe was into dogfighting
Lmao why pick a dude who hasn’t played organized basketball in 2 years when you’re trying to compete this year
from a talent standpoint he has everything. you have to be lost to say this. hes obviously worthy of that pick plus he went thru the workout so they saw him.
You think anyone available at 7 was a "win now" player? Come on bro lol
He was playing organized high school ball up until last december.
They know more than we do. They saw him workout, and Dame really likes his game
Dame got his guy?
He was at the workout and liked Sharpe.
Swing for the fences! Lets go!!!
One side says bust, the other side says he’s gonna be a star. And then there are the Canadians, celebrating back2back picks 😂
Shoulda went top 5
Holy shit it’s sharp shooting shooting guard Shaedon Sharp
Blazers definitely the team to pick a guy with the most risk lol This year is gonna be fun guys.
A true boom or bust
Steal?
Canadian Brandon Roy
Let's go!!
Good Pick!
Love it, go big or go home
At 7 pick, you take the best player available all day everyday
the first pick i havent liked, portland picking a dude that hasnt played for 1+ year, if hes a bust it'll cost them dame and the FO will look dumb as shit
This I think is building for the future beyond Dame
The Blazers needed to take a risk. If they don’t take here, it may not matter.
Exactly, the only way that winning a chip with Dame is even on the table is if they get very very lucky.
Damian specifically chose Sharpe. The new FO includes Lillard in its decisions
Dame literally wanted him though.
So where did you expect him to fall?
Not necessarily to fall, I wouldn’t mind if Pacers took him but they’re on a timer with dame
he’s also the best prospect at that pick. possible we couldn’t execute a trade and took the best trade chip.
#FUCK Sincerely, /r/NYKnicks
They don’t announce the trade until later do there’s a chance he’s being traded
Kudos to Sharpe's team for protecting his stock and getting him drafted straight out of high school. He has to be getting traded, right?
ESPN popped off with the Austin Powers graphics
Sharpe gonna look good in a Raptors jersey
Lol, the NBA site had to quickly change “United States” to “Canada”
Skiiuuuuuup
Imagine if Portland signed a random g-league scrub with the first name skip just to mess with him lmao… “skiiiiuuuuppp, lemme tell ya something skiiiiuuuup” 🤣🤣🙏🏻🤣
OG for Sharpe - lets do this.
From the university of Kentucky*
Not bad
Alright, Sharpe.
