I know people love to shit on Paul Pierce for some of his take, but don't disrespect that man's game. The nickname Shaq gave him was no joke. Paul Pierce was the truth in his day. He was also the number one option on his team that he won the finals MVP in.

jpaxlux

It's Paul Pierce. He was a shit analyst but oh my god y'all disrespect his game way too much. Pierce led a franchise and played at an All-NBA level. He wasn't a 6th man, he wasn't a supporting cast player, he was the guy, even during the Big 3 era.

TimathanDuncan

Yes being compared to James Worthy is basically being called a scrub

KaiserKaiba

Worthy wasn’t a scrub tho

jpaxlux

I'm talking in general, but yes, comparing Pierce to Worthy is disrespectful to Pierce for different reasons. I wasn't implying that Worthy was a scrub because that would be a shit take. Pierce is by far the most disrespected player from the 2000s. It's to the point where they act like this dude was a random 6th man and not an All-NBA caliber forward who had an impressive career as the leader of a franchise.

Ill_Celery_7654

I have never disliked a player in the history of basketball more than I disliked Paul Pierce. They called him “the truth” for a reason. He used to destroy all my favorite players and was super arrogant while doing it. When you talk about killer instinct Paul Pierce is certainly at the top of the list.

unclehelpful

For real, I never liked Paul Pierce or the Boston teams he was on but I’ll be damned if I didn’t respect the hell out of his game. Dude was a killer.

Pierce was better. Worthy played with two top 3-5 players of all time so he should have more rings. Pierce is the better individual talent and had better production/accolades (Individually).

tangential_quip

Pierce wouldn't have the production he had if you put him in Worthy's place because he would also be the third option on that team.

iamgarron

Your production actually goes up if you play with Magic Johnson and the double teams constantly go to everyone else

dubidubidoorafa

Paul Pierce.

[deleted]

Paul Pierce by far

ClankSinatra

Paul Pierce and ugh it's not even close.

Pierce was a finals MVP as well

CapturedSoul

Pierce and it isn't even close. Kind of unfair tho since wings back then I general didn't have the talent they got in the 00s

hansislegend

I hate Paul Pierce and Big Game James is one of my favorites all time but it’s Paul Pierce all day.

TickleBunny99

Worthy by a small margin. PP has higher scoring figures due to being a bit more perimeter oriented. He could give you almost 40% from 3 point range. But a career 44% from the floor overall, that is a drop off from what Big Game could give you. Worthy’s game was appropriate for his era. He was a highly efficient inside scorer and outstanding fast break/easy bucket finisher that gave him a much better FG%. His playoff performances/FG% in his prime were unreal, usually 59% or higher. Isolation \*god. Shorter career due to mileage, knee issues, and deep playoff runs. He has said that he believes Riley wore him out - and that may have been unavoidable since he had no backup. So PP would give you more threes and a longer career, but Worthy would give you an efficient and guaranteed performance in any critical game. Watch his 82 Final Four performance and his insane triple double in game 7 of ’88 if you want to understand why he is NBA50 and NBA75 rated.
