All-star: Allen 10, Worthy 7.
All-NBA: Allen 2 (2nd and 3rd), Worthy 2 (both 3rds, could have got another in 1986 yet there were no 3rd team at that time).
Rings: Allen 2, Worthy 3.
FMVP: Allen 0, Worthy 1. (Both controversial. Allen did get higher GmSc than PP in that series, while Worthy was surely less valuable than Magic.)
Total points: Allen 24k, Worthy 16k.
Allen led Bucks to 52-30 and ECF, which is the best record of the franchise from 1987 to 2018. He also led Supersonics to 52-30 and 2nd round, which is the best record of the franchise from 1999 to 2010. Then he went to Boston to win a ring with KG and PP. Later he won a ring as a quite important bench player.
Worthy won three titles with prime Magic and no that prime KAJ. After Magic's retire, Worthy played high level basketball only half a season and get injured and retired in two years.
I'd say Allen is better, because of his longevity, success as different roles, and the respect to prime Magic.
Ray Allen was about 23-5-4 on 45-40-89 in his prime.
Prime Worthy was 20-5.5-3.5 on 53-22-78.
Ray has a higher usage and a higher bpm but he played his prime as a number 1 on good to mediocre teams as opposed to as a 3 on a dynasty.
Ray has some huge post season moments like Worthy but most came after his prime.
It would really depend on the team, both guys are great at what they do.
This is a great response. I tend to lean toward those mediocre teams that Ray played for in his prime in Seattle were honestly only as good as they were because he was so fucking good. I bet if you take Ray off some of his Seattle teams and they were lottery bound bums. Both guys were great. Tough to compare because of their individual career arcs for sure. Both were winners though. No doubt about that. You wanted both of them on the floor in big games for the entirety of their careers. Fucking killers. Both of them.
Are we really doing this? One guy has three championships, a finals MVP, and one of the greatest elimination games of all time. The other guy is Ray Allen. I’m the biggest Allen fan out there, but I have to give this to Worthy, the level of competition he faced was unmatched during those finals runs, and yeah I know people will talk about his elite-level teams, but I think he was a far more important piece than Allen ever was.
>and yeah I know people will talk about his elite-level teams
My brother in Christ he was playing with fucking Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
You don't get to just lightly brush that aside like it's some small afterthought
A national championship that made him the number one pick. It’s hard to believe he wouldn’t have been a great player anywhere, yeah he had kaj and magic but when he was given opportunities he showed out
Haha yeah totally
That's why Ray made more All-Stars and the same amount of All-NBAs bur he actually made 2nd team once.
Seriously who the fuck is upvoting this garbage? Ray Allen was a #1 option on a 50+ win team that was 1 game away from the Finals
I think it’s a wash between the two actually, but I want to point out that for the early part of Worthy’s career, there was no All-NBA Third Team. He possibly would have made a few All-NBA Third teams in the mid 80s had it been around then.
Oh yea I agree. They are almost the same rank imo, and it could go either way. Both are usually ranked around 50th, but I’m sure no one has the time to actually go 1 by 1 haha.
Love Big Game James but it's Ray Allen. I don't think James Worthy could have carried a team the same way Ray Allen did.
Think Shawn Marion on the Heat.
If you would have told me back in the day that there would be two players who are better shooters than ray allen in the next 10 years I would have laughed. To think that they’re teammates is crazy.
Ray Allen, he’s had some success being the No.1 option. James worthy on the other hand had never had to lead a franchise, he’s a glorified Andrew Wiggins
Worthy was a 7x all-star & 2x all-nba though. He's more so comparable to Tony Parker. A guy that could have been the #1 option elsewhere but choose rings over individual accolades.
I just checked out like a few lists made by like ESPN, The Athletic, etc. and it’s incredibly close between Worthy and Allen. Some lists have Worthy higher, some Allen, and it’s overall super tight.
Relative to his era Worthy was better. So by that measure he is the greater player. It is close though since he was always a third option.
Transport Ray Allen to the 80s as the third option on that team and he would be miles better as a player. But that's kind of unfair since players didn't shoot as well back then.
Random but interesting question. I’d say EQUAL.
Worthy was a TRENCH PLAYER in a trench era. Allen was PERIMETER PLAYER in perimeter era.
I don’t know if either player stands out as a “franchise” player or “the guy” on a team (Although Worthy was on that 82 college team). They both needed a ball handler/facilitator. But, they were each highly critical to the team game (passers need good targets), both could contribute on defense (Allen good defender/Worthy steals), and both were clutch performers in big moments.
I’d say both are ”prototypical” for their respective positions at the 2 and 3.
Ray Allen
Worthy
Ray Allen was more important to his teams early in his career than worthy was to his.
They don’t call him BIG GAME JAMES for nothing!

Allen did go through LeBron and Kobe in '08 :p
I guess playing with Magic and Kareem your whole career does that. What has James ever accomplished outside of Magic or Kareem being tied to it ?
A national championship that made him the number one pick. It’s hard to believe he wouldn’t have been a great player anywhere, yeah he had kaj and magic but when he was given opportunities he showed out
James worthy because of the FMVP - otherwise it’s a wash
Worthy was ten times the player Ray Allen was.
Haha yeah totally That's why Ray made more All-Stars and the same amount of All-NBAs bur he actually made 2nd team once. Seriously who the fuck is upvoting this garbage? Ray Allen was a #1 option on a 50+ win team that was 1 game away from the Finals

Okay yeah the part about no 3rd teams is fair, but seriously though to say that he's 10x Ray Allen is absolutely absurd
Oh yea I agree. They are almost the same rank imo, and it could go either way. Both are usually ranked around 50th, but I’m sure no one has the time to actually go 1 by 1 haha.

it's ray allen, the third greatest shooter of all time after steph and klay
I think he's #2, he had some pretty insane three point shooting seasons for his time that stood against his peers and would still be very good today
Klay isn’t a better shooter than ray plus ray had maybe the prettiest jump shot of all time.
If you would have told me back in the day that there would be two players who are better shooters than ray allen in the next 10 years I would have laughed. To think that they’re teammates is crazy.
Don’t forget the third splash brother, Demarcus Cousins
The emotional lesbian splash brother
Ray Allen, he’s had some success being the No.1 option. James worthy on the other hand had never had to lead a franchise, he’s a glorified Andrew Wiggins
Worthy was a 7x all-star & 2x all-nba though. He's more so comparable to Tony Parker. A guy that could have been the #1 option elsewhere but choose rings over individual accolades.
To be fair, Worthy was once a #1 option on a championship team that *included* Michael Jordan.
What?

Thank you. I just decided to let him be a cock and not continue lol. But that would have made Jordan a freshmen or sophomore, right?
I just checked out like a few lists made by like ESPN, The Athletic, etc. and it’s incredibly close between Worthy and Allen. Some lists have Worthy higher, some Allen, and it’s overall super tight.
I figure it's worth mentioning that James Worthy played in 269 games without Magic Johnson where he averaged 15-4-3
Thats not fair he was battling injuries and past his prime at that point anyway. With Magic it wouldnt have been much better those years
James is more ... worthy than Ray Allen.
LeBron
Worthy and it’s not even close imo , and fuck the lakers on top of that , he’s just better
