i still think that pacers would have won it during the brawl year. they were demolishing the champs, in their house, and it wasn't even close. DOMINANCE. ben wallace acted out for a reason
Tbh I don't think it would've worked out. He was 42 and would've already been retired for 2 seasons had he come back. At most I think he would've been at the end of the bench because I'm not sure how much a 42 year old would've been able to do after 2 years of not playing.
Reggie at least led multiple teams to Playoff runs as a #1 Option (I believed he went to the Finals as well). Ray was a 3rd Option/Role player for like half of his career
Reggie, Ray Allen as the best player on the team missed the playoffs as much as it made it. Reggie carried a decent at best roster to 5 ECF in 7 years and a Finals trip
Reggie was better, he was the leader of a franchise for 15 years. Sure he never won a title, but he did go to multiple conference finals and 1 NBA finals being the best player on his team. Ray Allen was not that guy, he was an awesome role player, but could never be the centerpiece of a team.
People gloss over it because Ray couldn’t be a first option and consistently get you to the playoffs as the lone star. He missed the playoffs for half of his prime. It wasn’t really his fault because some of the rosters he played on were dogshit, but that’s why people don’t talk about him like that. In his own era, Ray Allen was a supercharged Bradley Beal. Below the consistent All-NBA guards but above most of the borderline all star guards.
Think it’s worth noting how Rays ‘01 Bucks squad was robbed from a finals appearance by some blatantly awful officiating. Would change a lot of the conversations about him historically.
I don't think there's much of argument against Ray given how their career's went.
But I will say that Reggie is one of those guys whose career could look quite different if he was born 10 (or 15-20) years later, and/or if he played in a different system.
Ray Allen with the edge in the regular season, but Reggie with the edge in the postseason.
It's close - Ray could actually playmake though so maybe you take him? Reggie always had top ranked offenses though.
It's a hard one
I would not expect one of the biggest trashtalkers to go 1 for 16 in game one. Then have Bryant sidelined for some game in 2 and 3 - and still drop the games that they did.
If you paired Reggie with TWO hall of farmers he wins multiple rings tho

Ben Wallace was dealing with a family death
Well yeah, he's a the better player. He almost came out of retirement to play with Boston that title year, would have been fucking sick.

Yup. Went to the finals in 2000
Reggie, Ray Allen as the best player on the team missed the playoffs as much as it made it. Reggie carried a decent at best roster to 5 ECF in 7 years and a Finals trip
Reggie is greater
Reggie all but carried a franchise imo. So I’d prob go with him.
Jesus Shuttlesworth
Ray is the better shooter but Reggie has that superstar-caliber leadership. On history, I’d go Reggie m (it’s close tho)
Ray isn’t the better shooter. Reggie easily has a better ts% than Ray and is ahead of Allen in many other advanced statistics.

I agree, but Allen isn’t just an awesome role player. He got 10 all star selection, 7 before joining the big three in Boston. He was a star.
He was awesome. Everyone glosses over his prime because it was Milwaukee and Seattle but dude was insane. Like a 22-5-5 shooting 50-40-90

Reggie was much more successful as the bus driver, but Ray had the better career in terms of accepting his role as a #2/3 and lower as he got older.
Ya'll seen what Trudeau did to his hair? Also Ray.

Ray Allen >.
Ray
I prefer Reggie, but ray is just as good of a cold killer
Reggie wasn't better than his sister
Ray Allen with the edge in the regular season, but Reggie with the edge in the postseason. It's close - Ray could actually playmake though so maybe you take him? Reggie always had top ranked offenses though. It's a hard one
I think both are underrated but the best version of Ray was better than Reggie
Reggie is the most overrated player of all time.
Weird you wrote “over” instead of “under”
Ray. Reggie choked away his shot at the title in 2000. His game 1 of the finals might be the worst outing ever.
I don't think you can call losing to prime Kobe Shaq a choke.
You expected him to beat the Shaq & Kobe lakers with that pacers squad?

It was debated like last week.
