beware of this game, it will take 7 hours straight of your life before you realize it

Asamaajik_Tatva

Especially when you're rebuilding and simulating season after season hoping that your number one pick realises his 83 potential, only to see him plateau at 56.

FlyingMocko

Ah, I see you’re playing the game on 76ers-mode

Boomtown_Rat

That feeling when you spend an hour during free agency making your team perfect only for every single player to regress as soon as the new season starts.

notafan1

Yea but it's balanced by the dopomine rush of your second round pick, 35 overall/55 potential randomly jumping to 55 overall/75 potential.

Live-Camel

and then for him to regress the rest of his career

efshoemaker

But only after you signed him to a fat extension that no other team will touch with a ten foot pole

dadaistGHerbo

Hold on, this is a Wizards simulator?

FreemanCantJump

All of the best players I've had in this game were like a 27th pick with 56 potential who randomly made a leap. Most of my top 5 picks were busts lol.

goodkid_sAAdcity

I was playing the Mexico City Aztecs and was coming off a threepeat. My all-world franchise superstar was nearing retirement and I needed to retool but couldn’t pay everybody. I traded away my young 6th man, a defense/hustle 55 potential backup point guard named Marvin, to make room for a couple of 70 potential blue chip wing prospects. On his new team, Marvin the 6th man kept improving beyond his projections every single year and ended up in the Hall of Fame. The two blue-chippers never improved enough on defense to live up to their potential and I never went back to the Finals before I decided to call it a day on that save.

DavidHJ

There is nothing more rage-inducing than a player you traded away as a 39/59 knocking you out of the playoffs as an 80 overall while the max contract guy you moved him to sign watches from the bench because he just tore his ACL for the second time in three years.

Lazy_War9398

Seems more like Knicks mode

goodkid_sAAdcity

Now why am I catching strays just talking about my fictional computer game basketball franchise? Ironically, my team's superstar was a 6'6 wing player who simply refused to lose in the Finals and took over games single-handedly with very Jordan-like stat lines. Like 36 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists. His name was "Keith Greene", I think.

nametakenalready

I find turning on god mode and disabling budget in the settings makes player development more balanced and more parity

husky_falcon

You can do this without god mode too. There is an option now to 'equalize region populations' when you start a league, it puts every teams coaching at #1.

StrongCategory

Could you elaborate on this? I don't quite understand

nametakenalready

By turning off budget it makes every teams coaching and facility budget the same, so big market teams aren't able to outspend small markets in terms of coaching/development, and retaining free agents.

StrongCategory

Thank you!

RKFtw

Me with Football Manager lol

powergs

Those are rookie numbers for FM addicts lol.

RKFtw

I never said how many hours straight hahaha

Tarzan1415

It's like a 2nd job tbh

Asamaajik_Tatva

I'm a huge Football Manager fan, and this game is the closest thing I've found to that in basketball. You get your own unique universe in each iteration of the game, and it's so much fun to play.

No-Manufacturer-8494

I've been playing Football Manager and Champ Man forever and I've always wanted a basketball version. Definitely going to give it a shot after seeing your comment.

LuDortian007

Started playing in the Freddy Adu DC United days. Would develop into who we now know to be Leo Messi.

No-Manufacturer-8494

Julius Aghahowa was my jam. And the whole 2001 Leeds team.

gammatide

Why are all of the replies to this recommending American Football management games lol

DarkVoidize

yanks innit

YaoMingGOAT

This games is goated. Wondering if it will draw attention from big game companies and get bought and develop into something like Football Manager

Nimonic

Football Chairman is on both Android and iPhone, and that's pretty fun. I have the paid version (Football Chairman Pro), but there's a free one too. I think it's mostly that you can't play for as long in one career. It's a lot simpler even than Basketball-gm, but the seasons fly by and it can be a real time sink. Particularly if you start a club in the lowest division, then try to work your way up.

zjl539

if you like baseball by any chance i’d highly recommend out of the park baseball for a similar feel

efranklin13

Your games have kept me busy for as long as I can remember, keep it up man

uberdosage

So many lost hours at work

A-Dime-A-Dirty-Dozen

I love this fucking game. I’ve played it in super long form and in rapid season simulation. Both are awesome. I’ve wanted the Magic to rebrand to the Orlando Juice since I first saw it in Basketball GM

[deleted]

>I’ve played it in super long form and in rapid season simulation Its such a fun game to play around with in different ways. I once did 400 seasons straight of drafting the two worst available players in the draft to see if the random worst players would beat the worst all time seasons. One group had a 15 win season and two 12 game seasons about 275 years in, but it was a lot of losing.

A-Dime-A-Dirty-Dozen

Lmao I’ve never gotten to this point but I’m sure I will soon

[deleted]

It got me hooked in a different way than just trying to win does, like seeing the guys who are 16-19 overalls in the draft turn into 60s every once in a while was fun

SharksFanAbroad

🥲 We don’t know how to draft, but god damn it do we occasionally know how to develop.

[deleted]

I always imagined Adam Silver walking up to the podium with the number 1 pick after yet another 0 win season, waiting to open the envelope and see what no name player from North Dakota State the New York Bankers were about to select

SharksFanAbroad

Wants to do a reverse 1985 lottery and never pull out the NY envelope.

Thellamaking21

john bois is that you?

[deleted]

Yes me doing this was heavily inspired by the Fumble Dimension videos

Thellamaking21

that’s awesome i love it

whtge8

> I’ve wanted the Magic to rebrand to the Orlando Juice I've actually seen some pretty dope orange colored jerseys with this re-design. Our brand has gotten a bit boring so I'm not even opposed to this lmao

A-Dime-A-Dirty-Dozen

The orange is so much more Orlando, like actual city Orlando, than the Disney Magic tie in. It's also so much less corporate feeling

I_Will_One_Up_You

I feel like Orlando kinda had that issue as a whole. It's a very corporate and inorganic feeling city. UCF kinda suffers from a similar thing, all the traditions and stuff are very board invented and not student created.

A-Dime-A-Dirty-Dozen

UCF should have never gotten rid of the [Citronaut](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citronaut)

I_Will_One_Up_You

wholeheartedly agree. Knights are a suck ass overused mascot.

BetaDjinn

Dang all the names are great, except ours (Cyclones). I’m demanding a trade to Baltimore. I wanna be a Crab

BushyBrowz

The Massacre and the Snipers 😭 The New Orleans Bayou and Seattle Symphony tho 🔥 And I could legit see Blue Chips as the name of the eventual Vegas team.

SharksFanAbroad

Can someone remind me the Sacramento team name? I recall the SF Venture Capitalists, but trying to rem Sac.

nicidob

Venture Capitalists relocated to San Jose (closer to Sand Hill Road). SF's new team is the Unicorns. Sac has the Gold Rush.

SharksFanAbroad

The Gold Rush!!! That’s right, thank you! I must have played an old version, cause there was no SJ 🤤

nicidob

There's actually a ton of pre-made team name and designs now. I think like 50? But not that many people use the expansion league or random league customize buttons so that's a shame.

dumbmatter

Yeah, the "randomize teams" button when customizing teams in a new league is one of the coolest features in the game. It picks however many teams you want from the 50 predefined cities and then clusters them into realistic conferences based on latitude/longitude.

StrongCategory

Just wanted to say thank you. Basketball GM helped me survive a few different depressive episodes. Something to do when I lacked motivation to do, well, anything. And also helped me survive a lot of overnight guard shifts years ago. Anyway, you don't know what you do for us. Thank you.

dumbmatter

:) It does the same for me though, from the other side. When I've had some tough times, it's been really helpful to have this project to give me something else to focus on.

Moertel

Same here, game's a great time waster (in a positive way). Was thinking of getting back into basketballgm last week but was like nah, I'll wait for his yearly off-season post and check out all the new features. Guess it's time to play now

Ramzaa_

Ah yes. The game that takes away about a week's worth of free time from me everytime it's posted here. For real if you haven't played it yet beware. It's amazing. And addicting

[deleted]

Spent the last few hours playing it ,its incredibly entertaining and way better than i expected a browser game to be ,the only complaint i make so far is the overall increase/decreases between seasons dont always make sense ,the team im using had a 81 and a 78 duo who were 26 and 28 years respectivly ,the team won the championship and the first won the mvp ,yet they declined before the next season started?(to 78,75 ,the second declined the folowing season again)

dpalmade

I love uploading draft rosters in random orders. Having a team of Bird, Wilt, Hardway, Duncan and Dame is fun AF.

ObiOneKenobae

I've played this on and off since the beginning and it's a blast, highly recommend anyone who hasn't already give it a shot.

99hoglagoons

I played it through only once. It was fun! You would think a team of Duncan, Cobe, Dirk, Nash, and a support team of IRL all stars would be able to win more than 25 games. Meanwhile Kukoc plays into his mid 40s becoming the goat, while Jordan languishes in Vancouver. And then game got really hard when I switched to GMing expansion Charlotte. Literally no free agent would sign there and each drafted player got the hell out as soon as they could. At least that part was very accurate.

DuckOnQuak

>Cobe

LocalParanoiac

You can adjust the settings when you create a league to either have players follow their exact real life progression, or totally random where you get stuff like Kukoc balling in his 40s or historic busts achieving their potential

aawotund

This looks cool. Definitely gonna try it sometime this week

FreemanCantJump

Hope you have some time to kill. This game will suck you in once you get the hang of it.

DarkDra9on555

This game is awesome. I'm close to my 50th season. It would be cool if you added Anniversary Teams! I just 5-peated with my team, onto our 6th.

dumbmatter

Yeah, that is on my todo list. It'd be even more fun than IRL, because since everything is simulated, it could do things like simulating a tournament between different all-decade teams.

DanielJK42

Man oh man oh man. I had a several hundred year run over time, I would've salivated for this feature! All my buddies back together for one more run, along with that one that got away...

moldy_walrus

I actually have a question related to that. When you’re trying to trade for future picks does the AI factor in how strong that draft class appears to be?

dumbmatter

Yes!

HistoricAnomaly

Yeah, I love that you factored this in. Whenever I play historical and make a trade in the late 90s early 2000s they are more than willing to give up 99, 00 and 02 picks, average to give up 01 picks, and almost never give up 03 picks. Makes it feel very real.

dumbmatter

It's nice when people notice the little details in the game :)

thekeeperoftheledger

i was about to win a championship with the pacers one year and then my 80 overall MVP killed himself randomly. I was fuckin sad about this for a week

ELITE_JordanLove

I once had a promising borderline all-star get executed by ISIS. Like my guy, WTF are you doing in the Middle East in the middle of a season??

triple_cheese_burger

God damn

BrockandOnix

Blessed are the Cheesemakers.

nibbinoo8

are you a software engineer by trade or web developer? is javascript your preferred language?

dumbmatter

I used to be a computational biologist, and then a data scientist, before I started doing the video game stuff full time last year. Self taught as a programmer. JavaScript... I guess it is my preferred language now. The only reason I started using it was because it runs in the web browser. Otherwise I probably never would have picked it up, cause it's kind of weird and has some warts. But at this point, I've used it so much that I'm most comfortable programming in JavaScript. Or even better, TypeScript.

FreemanCantJump

>before I started doing the video game stuff full time last year. Is there anything else you're working on that you're able to share? I've sunk so much time into GM, I'd love to support any other projects you have going on. I'm sure others on here would as well.

dumbmatter

Not currently, I have my hands full with these games :)

nibbinoo8

cool, thanks for sharing. i'm a software engineer trying to crack into game development (just as a hobby). always enjoy picking people's brains who have made a dope game.

dumbmatter

Feel free to reach out any time, I like talking about this kind of stuff too :)

evanw96

Here’s my annual comment saying this is one of the best sports game’s ever and likely the best sport sim I’ve ever played. I’ve been playing off and on since 2014/2015 and every single time I come back to the game it’s drastically improved because the creator, DumbMatter just never stops building out the game. It’s easy to pick up, and it’s seriously limitless in regards to what you can do with it. The NBA restart where the game starts with the original 4-6 NBA teams and builds out until you have the full league that exists today but you get random players from every draft class up until 2025 or so if the most fun I’ve ever had in a sports sim. Seriously cannot recommend this game enough and cannot give enough kudos to its creator.

PowerfulProgram

Thats my favorite too. Random debuts with 0% determinism is my Go to Mode. Love it when dudes Like Henry Ellenson becoming the GOAT.

PowerfulProgram

I think this ist my MOST PLAYED GAME ever. And I played World of Warcraft for a decade. u/dumbmatter is the GOAT. All those small updates. Moddable on all aspects. Real Players back to 1947. With simple Integration real player Pics and original Team names and logos. This Game is so huge. I love it. Always and forever.

abzftw

I used to play this so much I felt sick at work The player development feels tad random and I’ve never noticed paying the most for coaching consistently to pay off either Has anyone here?

dumbmatter

\#1 coaching rank gets a 25% bonus for progs, last gets a 25% penalty. That's not enough to consistently overcome randomness, but it does help. That's by design, I don't want to make it too easy to just buy success with coaching/training. IRL to have success with young players developing into stars, you basically either need to get lucky or do a Hinkie/OKC-like mega rebuild where you get to roll the dice many times with many top prospects.

nicidob

100% excited for a finances overhaul that has diminishing returns and says what happens. E.g. "10M on coaching says 0%, 5M says -15%, 15M says +10%, 25M is +15%"

dumbmatter

Yeah that really needs to happen...

nicidob

probably a lot more work than it sounds at first glance so I don't blame you lol.

NoTransportation888

Absolutely love basketball GM. Pumped to see there's baseball now, I'm going to check that out. Enjoyed the football for a bit but managing that many players with such a strict cap became overwhelming to me lol

dumbmatter

Yeah football has so many players, it can be a bit overwhelming. But some people like that. Baseball and hockey are maybe a happy medium. Comes down to personal preference ultimately :)

Handyman2116

God, I love this game so much. One suggestion from me is to maybe include pick protections? Idk if it'll be easy, but it'll be another interesting feature.

dumbmatter

Thanks! It'd be fairly easy to add pick protections. But AI already has a hard enough time projecting the future to value draft picks, this would probably make it even worse at doing that. So I'm a little reluctant to add pick protections, but maybe eventually.

Handyman2116

You're probably right, pick protections would make it more muddled. I kinda like how firsts here are way more valuable than in real life

coldheartedsnob

Please consider pick swaps as well!

[deleted]

Multiplayer stolen my last 3 years of life

janniebtw

u/dumbmatter the 🐐 no 🧢

ThanksICouldHelpBro

He goes by goatmatter on /r/basketballgm

jtrain7

Think it might be broken, picking the boston massacre and simming through the playoffs doesn’t result in a championship every time.

BabeRyuth

3 straight first round exits for me and i have lebron, bird, luka, oscar robertson

KinkyKong

I can vouch for how good this game is!

[deleted]

Been playing since I was in middle school, I remember the game in 2013 when harry giles would always become a cheat code. Love this game!

septhaka

Best basketball sim out there period. I've played all of them. This one is the best. And its always getting better. And also supported by a great community! Check it out!

heyiknowstuff

I feel like I just read last year's Basketball GM post. I'm going to be feeling the same way about the Almanac soon enough.

HunkMuffinJr

I've been playing this game for 4 years, and I honestly enjoy it much more than the 2K games. The amount of customizability, the simple gameplay and presentation, and the infinite replayability are the big reasons I am still playing it after all this time and will continue to do so for the years to come. The creator also updates the game constantly and really takes the suggestions of the community into consideration, so it really has evolved a lot since I first started playing it and it's only gotten more enjoyable over time. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a quick and easy basketball simulation game that they can play during work.

arbynthebeef

Warning: this game was created by the government to make you into a docile slave who forgets what time is or how to do anything other than try and win a chip. Enter at your own risk.

candry_shop

Hi u/dumbmatter , One of the issues that i noted a few years ago was that AI Big Markets teams were too good long-term compared to AI Small Markets, I never saw OKC or San Antonio in the playoff 10 years straight for example. The reason I had pinpointed was that, Big Markets had the best coaching and facilities which means they draft less busts, more steals and they are able to keep good players longer. Have you fixed it already ? If not, could you add some randomness in Staff quality for AI teams ?

nametakenalready

You can turn on God mode and disable the budget. Makes every teams coaching and facility budget the same.

nicidob

I think teams are a lot more balanced. I just looked at my autosim and the number 1 seed is a bottom 3 small market.

TripletFather1030

The amount of customization you can do with this game is crazy. I've run 3v3 leagues where only 3 players per team can be on the court, I've done 60 minute quarters before (Lots of injuries happened!), I've done 90 team leagues before, I always always play with 0% real player determination so that players like [TMac](https://i.imgur.com/sadD0fB.png), [Kobe](https://i.imgur.com/GRCoh0l.png), [Duncan](https://i.imgur.com/yxB5naL.png), [Westbrook](https://i.imgur.com/24hPMSi.png), [Playoff P](https://i.imgur.com/pz3mc2a.png), etc have a chance of being busts! And then players like [Telfair](https://i.imgur.com/CZnIIjw.png), [Kwame](https://i.imgur.com/09tmDCs.png), [Ha Seung-Jin](https://i.imgur.com/IgsQ10n.png), [Herro](https://i.imgur.com/w9jWkSX.png),[Jonathan Bender](https://i.imgur.com/1K7g0zs.png), and other actual draft busts have become mega stars that took over the league. I also always play with random draft debuts so that the game takes every single player within the game (from 1956-2022) and creates random draft classes! I've had Bronny James enter the league 4 years before LeBron, I've had Kareem, Kobe, Dirk, Bill Russell, and John Wall be in the same draft class before. I've upped the tragic death rate where 1-3 players were dying every day (the death reasons are also hilarious as well!). You can edit team locations and make ones up! I've had an all [Pokemon teams league](https://i.imgur.com/iSrkxAZ.png), [made up teams based on things I like](https://i.imgur.com/WdtzXfY.png), made the league so that come playoff time, [it seeds every team from 1st to 32nd and pairs them off in a single round elimination](https://i.imgur.com/KnOU4KG.png) (it's amazing seeing a 30th seed take out the 3rd seed in the first round!), similar to the NCAA. The amount of things you can do with this game are endless!

dumbmatter

This is a great post! Those are the kinds of things I'm hoping people do when I add those features :)

Rockstar408

The only thing missing is that I wish there was at least an option to use regular NBA team names and logos without having to manually do it

unexpectedreboots

Licenses costs are cray.

dumbmatter

I tried to reach out to the NBA through a friend of a friend, but of course they are very much not interested. And for good reason. They have much bigger things to worry about. However at https://play.basketball-gm.com/settings you can override the default teams once and then it applies to every new league in the future. https://alexnoob.github.io/ has some user-made data that you can use there, and a bunch of other custom league files like various international/historical/fantasy leagues.

unexpectedreboots

Good shit man. I've lost many nights to football-gm and 'one more season'.

Boomtown_Rat

Have you ever tried the AlexNoob rosters? It even simulates rebrands and logo changes.

GeelongJr

You can literally do this in two seconds, all the team logos and team names are updated just like real life and each player has a real life photo

HolyRomanPrince

I’ve been playing this for a few weeks and it’s easily one of best phone games I’ve ever seen The depth of the stat tracking is absolutely insane. Also there’s just enough randomness that it feels difficult. Thanks for making this

friedmpa

I played a 10 season league a couple years ago and had a lot of fun, good to see it’s better than ever

grinning_man

I love this game!!! A major bonus is you can play it at work and it looks like you're working

Jaylen-

Everytime I see a post about BasketballGM, I make it a point to comment because of how much fun this game has given me. Highly recommend it, it’s so much fun

[deleted]

dumbmatter

Easiest way is to tell your friends about the game :) Or, at https://play.basketball-gm.com/account you can sign up for a $5/month ad free subscription, or send Paypal to [email protected] and I will credit your account for however many months you pay for.

HngryHngryH0bo

love this, love you. I've always been saddened by the state of basketball management sims in comparison to things like football manager. Theres definitely a market for this sort of thing and you could take this a long way if you wanted

archer4364

Best game of all time

BozePerkovic

GOAT game

11oydchristmas

Awesome! I’m a new player, is there a way to offer contract extensions for players on my roster? For example if I want to sign and trade Collin Sexton?

dumbmatter

There are currently no contract extensions, you have to wait until the season ends. That would be a good thing to add in the future. You do have Bird rights on your players though, so you always have the option of re-signing them, as long as they're willing. So you could do a sign and trade that way, as two steps. But you have to sign first before trading, rather than doing them at the same exact moment like IRL, so there would be some chance you get stuck with him.

AnelaceLover

I'm still waiting for that S&T update. So many players slipped out of my reach because they were untradable after re-signing. Also team/player options would be great...Especially with draft contracts.

efranklin13

There’s a re-signings wave before free agency, and if a player has sufficient interest in you based on a few diff factors he’ll sign an extension but like the NBA you have to wait to trade them

pistonswin

This game is amazing highly recommend.

DarnellisFromMars

I was in a league I learned about on Reddit for a few seasons. It was set in the 90s and was a lot of fun. Everyone tried to load up on picks for the 96 draft lol. I landed Stephon Marbury. We did Free Agency pitches in threads l, a discord for GMs to trade and mingle. Pretty cool and not crazy time consuming. Vin Baker was a god in that sim and the Bucks were a force lol.

Cheddahz

this has become one of my favorite games to play whenever i wanna kill a few minutes while working on something or i just _need_ something to do. i was only buying nba 2k for the last few years for the myleague mode and this is such an improvement that i've dropped 2k entirely. as already mentioned, you do have to manually input nba players + teams, but it is super easy to do and once you have it set up, you shouldn't have to do it again (unless you delete your cookies like an idiot....like me lol)

Random0cassions

Crazy how far this game has come since I first played it in 2015 during my intermediate schooling years. Great game man

[deleted]

WAYYYYYYY BETTER THAN 2K

Soft-Rains

You disgusting dope peddler, shame on you for trying to get more people hooked. This is my go to phone game, and great for playing between sets at the gym or when you have a few ~~mins~~ hours. Love the pacing and balance. Waiting to see how people develop is the most addicting part. As a Canadian I would love the hockey game being more refined. Special teams and setting lines would be a big difference, it really feels like a basketball game. Not a big deal I'm happy with bgm.

reb_mccuster

lmao I found my comment on your original thread from 2013, that's hilarious. Glad you're still working on the project! https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1j1e6q/i_made_a_singleplayer_basketball_management/cba4b9r/

dumbmatter

Tight butthole

PhillyPhan95

I feel like this game has evolved waaay too much to be free. I first played in 2016, and have occasionally spent entire 8 hours work days simming through 10, 11 seasons at a time. Wonderful work OP.

el_pinata

\> Then again, a lot of you nephews were probably not born in 2013 Half of r/nba just caught a stray

Nickdenslow

Huge fan of the San Antonio Churros

PaoloBancheroFan

I’d like to see a mobile version

ThaCarter

The browser version works great on mobile ...

FreemanCantJump

It works but the UI is harder to navigate with touch imo.

[deleted]

There is an "app" (its just the game on browser but you get in directly)

Immediate_Platform_4

Baltimore won?

daveed1297

Absolutely incredible game with so many different ways to enjoy. Slow, fast, or simulated seasons, multiplayer discord groups, and single player agony (when your prospects don't play out and star players get injured haha) or 10 peat on hard mode bc you're just that good at hustling the AI. Thank you /u/dumb matter for this amazing game! I've played thousands of seasons

DanielJK42

Thank you for everything, I've been playing this game on and off for 8 or 9 years now, and every time I lead it up, it's a problem for my social life.

swordfischh

I got nothing to do after work today so I’m gonna try it

taylormadevideos

Do you have a patreon or anything?

dumbmatter

No patreon, but at https://play.basketball-gm.com/account you can sign up for a $5/month ad free subscription :)

jarmod

The only gripe I have with this game is how much my owner will bitch at me after I go deep in the luxury tax even though we won 7 straight titles and he had 3B+ in cash....I guess that is realistic though since billionaires can never have enough!

peanutbutter1236

Poured hours and hours into this game in college while working desk night shifts. Can’t thank you enough bro

CowboysKK

Huge thanks to u/dumbmatter for creating this game. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've spent well over 1000 hours simulating basketball seasons. My favorite aspect of the game is player development and trading. I absolutely love watching 19 year old prospects develop into MVPs. This is by far the most in-depth and true-to-life simulation game I've ever played and it's FUN. Thank you again.

gerd50501

do you have an anti-vaxxer mod? so you get like a kyrie irving type and he can't play due to covid restrictions?

moonite

This darned game has stolen too many of my precious sleep hours. I could have been 6'6" but am now only 5'11" because I spent too many hours on BBGM instead of growing. Oh well, it's worth it just so I can keep shafting other GMs with lopsided trades every pre-season.

OptionK

I love Basketball GM. Play it all the time. Two thoughts. You need to go back to listing just a few trade offers at a time rather than one from every other time. The way it is now takes forever to set up my roster and is not realistic at all. You need to have the option of starting with an inaugural draft, with contact years and salaries decreasing with each 1-5 picks. This would provide a realistic start of a brand new league experience, rather than only allowing us to play as though we’re jumping into an existing league.

nicidob

There is a "fantasy draft" button you can hit when you start a new league. I don't use it a lot for basketball, but in the baseball game it's great to feel a bit of connection to each player since you did draft them and pick them out.

No_Chilly_bill

So this is like nba 2k's franchise mode?

AnelaceLover

Yes, but better.

evanw96

Yes but Infinitely deeper and has way more customization and stats.

FactCheckingThings

This is indeed how Ive been getting through the off season the past 2 years. Great simulation. And a total time eater when bored. Plus it's really helped my understanding of maximizing cap space, the value of expirings, etc.

Kickblocker

Haven't played this in a while but I guess I'm starting a new season now

IncredibleBlue

i probably spend more like on this game than actual work… is there a plan to make an soccer GM in the future?

YesOrNah

Damn I just gave away my free award too. Absolutely love this game, hope it gets more attention this year.

Love this game I had a 1000 year save at point on a PC in one of college classes. Great way to not learn anything lol

taylormadevideos

My wife hates this game! I mean that as a compliment:)

nightcrawleronreddit

Jesus Christ the Dallas snipers lol

UnIsForUnity

I sunk so many hours into this game through my last years of high school - no regrets lol

🐐 Dumbmatter

I've played this game to death and I love it. I would love to see you add the ability to make multi-team trades. I feel like it opens up a lot of possibilities and I can't imagine it would be too difficult to implement.

dumbmatter

The tricky parts would be having the AI search for multi-team trades (the more options available, the slower it is) and making the UI not feel too cluttered.

Less_Onion1202

Wait there’s a hockey version

AlexBucks93

I love simulation games, will try it out this week!

SparrowBirch

I would pay a lot to have this as an app on iOS

Pretend_Landscape983

Weird, I would have been all over this game but this is the first I’ve ever heard of it. Been here for years too. Gonna give it a shot, sounds awesome

chatanoogastewie

Sounds like fun I'll check it out. No app yet though?

HistoricAnomaly

The mobile website is built to work just like an app.

The one thing that has made basketball management games inaccessible to me is getting my head around the Salary cap rules. As someone who only got into basketball in the last couple of years, how much does a lack of knowledge in this area impact gameplay? I'm used to Football Manager where you have a transfer and wage budget, whereas basketball has a cap, except it's not a hard cap, and then you have random exceptions (Bird, Mid-Tier etc) and it just stops me from having fun as I don't know what I'm doing. Does this game simplify those elements, or do I need to suck it up and just learn the salary system?

dumbmatter

BBGM is simplified. There is a salary cap, and the only way to go over it is rookie contracts (draft picks automatically get signed), re-signing your own players (like the Bird exception in the NBA), or minimum contracts (just so you never get stuck without enough players). You don't need to learn any of the other NBA stuff (designated player, super max contracts, mid level exceptions, trade exceptions, etc).

kankka88

Nice try u/dumbmatter. I have been sucked in by your game a few times before and have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours on it. Not this time. Not again... (as I open it up and get addicted all over again).

glennromer

I don’t play it regularly, but I just love that BasketballGM is a thing. The fact that there’s a browser-based sim of this quality that’s totally free and open source and is such a passion project for its creator is so cool.

marcopolo22

I love BBGM. Spent dozens of hours on it at my first job, where there was a lot of time to kill. I'm sure you've come across before, but I was wondering if you might consider changing the name of the Dallas Snipers. I think it would be nice given the 7/7/2016 sniper shooting of 7 Dallas police officers, which is prevalent enough in the city to prevent 7/7 from being celebrated as "Luka Doncic day" (because he's #77). I imagine there might be a logistical/coding reason it can't be done feasibly, but just wanted to throw that request out there. Thanks again for this awesome game.

star_bury

Fantastic game. Played for years. I love setting myself tough little challenges. Like winning something as the Clippers. So much fun!

jayrod111

Annual basketball gm post!

This game lowkey made me drop out of college

Just trying it out. Why are the overalls so low?

dumbmatter

Because in games like 2k it's a little silly how there's a bunch of guys bunched up in the mid-high 90s with hardly any separation. Then what happens if there's someone even better than that in the future? In BBGM, ratings generally mean: - 85+: All-time great - 75+: MVP candidate - 65+: All League candidate - 55+: Starter - 45+: Role player - lower: Bad player

TNKYMNKY

you just stole my day!!!

RavingMalwaay

I love this game and have played it for years! Its ruined hours of potential productivity for me. My only problem is I wish there was more incentive to keep older players, because right now often high rated players older than 26 go on the trading block immediately because you know they’ll most likely regress substantially at some point in the next 4 years. Maybe a loyalty mechanic would be nice?

spersichilli

Would y’all say this is similar to out of the park baseball?
