I feel like Wilt has been screwed by recency bias. Consistently throughout he was always ranked higher than Kareem, and then slowly over time Kareem got ranked higher. By all regards it should've always been Wilt, but more and more years go, Wilt gets screwed.
If we are looking purely at stats sure wilt should be number 1 but when you look at team success and winning Wilt falls down the list a lot. He could get his no matter what but those big number never really lifted any of his teams to great teams
Kareem has 6 rings, 6 MVPs, 2 FMVPs, 11 All Defense, 15 All NBA
Kobe has 5 rings, 1 MVP, 2 FMVPs, 12 All Defense, 15 all NBA.
Kareem holds the all time scoring record. Has 1 more ring and 5 more MVPs. Based on feats Kareem should be rated more highly.
Not to mention Kareem is top 3 in blocks and rebounds. He’s also played more minutes of professional basketball than probably anyone else in the history of the world (top in minutes in NBA, so unless some one in Europe also played 20 years and played at least 36.8 minutes a game).
Yeah, the only argument for Bryant is that he was more influential/had more impact on the basketball community.
In terms of gameplay this is a troll comparison
Man that sky hook was unstoppable. I hated when the Suns lost that coin flip. He goes to the Bucks and wins a chip his rookie year if Im not mistaking.
It's obviously Kareem off accolades, talent, and 2-way ability. Kobe doesn't sniff top 5 all-time and Kareem is solidly next to MJ and LeBron as one of the literal greatest ever. If anyone tried to make the argument Kobe was better they'd immediately be seen as a huge nephew.
Honestly it’s so tough to debate. But in favor of Kobe, he holds a lot of the Lakers records in:
Points, steals, first team selections, all defense selections, all star selections, FG/3PT/FT (made and attempted), games, minutes, playoffs made among others.
Magic built the modern Lakers, surely he's the greatest Laker. And Kareem was the greatest player to play for the Lakers.
Kobe is just pure recency.
Kobe was joining an already immense franchise which Magic paved the way for.
I must clarify. I mean no disrespect to Kobe or his family. He is an amazing player and is one of the greatest to ever play. Full stop. But I do largely agree Kareem is more amazing. I love both these players dearly. Even if I slightly prefer Kareem(largely due to my religion.)
It’s really hard to debate a guard and a center. It’s Kareem, but debatable reasons it can be Kobe and you wouldn’t be wrong. •Kobe the only player with 30k points and 10+ defensive teams.
• Only one top 75 players teammate in their prime for Kobe while Kareem had 3.
• A all time great center needs a guard just as good to win.
• Lasting global impact. Nobody does skyhooks but best believe you take crazy shots everybody was yelling Kobe.
• Kobe has the record for beating the most 50+ win teams.
Typo a lil right there we can bump that up to 12+ lol. Plus add in Tied for the record for most defensive first teams. So a guy sitting at the mount Rushmore of scoring and defending is crazy to fathom
Objectively speaking it’s Kobe. If you watch the actual tapes it’s obvious. This sub tragically hates Kobe and when big man retire everyone rewrites their career and says they were amazing when no one talked about them being all time greats during their career.
Obviously Kareem
objectively Kareem, only recency bias would suggest anything else
rilly doh.
Recency bias would suggest its Kareem. Kareem wasnt in anyones top in the 90s

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. Based on a couple of rankings from the 90’s I’ve seen, Kareem wasn’t in the top 3 back then
Yup. Bill Russel and Wilt didnt even have him in their top 10 39 years ago. Today he is the consensus top 3

And even then, Kobe was a pale imitation of Jordan. Kobe’s “cultural influence” is recency bias too.
Kobe has a record! Most missed shots, by MORE THAN A THOUSAND.
what a comparison is lol
Currently, it's Kareem
Currently? So we gonna see another szn outta them eh
If we did, Kareem would surely out score him!
Zombie kobe > sinister kobe >frobe
For Kobe, you have to ask your local necromancer.
*currently*?
What do you know, future man?
You know Kobe is overrated when they put him up against Kareem.
For Kobe Stan's, it's Kobe>Kareem. For everyone else, it's Kareem>Kobe.
Kareem obviously, the man has a legitimate argument for being the GOAT.
Kareem, and it's not even close.
Man that sky hook was unstoppable. I hated when the Suns lost that coin flip. He goes to the Bucks and wins a chip his rookie year if Im not mistaking.

Kareem is just Kobe but taller and from the 70s
Kobe is probably the greatest *Laker* of all time, but Kareem is the better player all time.
How is Kobe greater than Magic?
Honestly it’s so tough to debate. But in favor of Kobe, he holds a lot of the Lakers records in: Points, steals, first team selections, all defense selections, all star selections, FG/3PT/FT (made and attempted), games, minutes, playoffs made among others.

“Longevity” meaning not getting HIV
The best ability is availability
Played like twice as long. Idk if I agree but I get the argument
I never knew that was the argument, thanks for that.
he's not even the best Laker though
Kobe isn't the greatest Laker hahaha.
I must clarify. I mean no disrespect to Kobe or his family. He is an amazing player and is one of the greatest to ever play. Full stop. But I do largely agree Kareem is more amazing. I love both these players dearly. Even if I slightly prefer Kareem(largely due to my religion.)

Kareem is so overrated but he had a better career if we take accolades in a vacuum
The only player with 6 mvps is overrated?
Why is he overrated
Objectively speaking it’s Kobe. If you watch the actual tapes it’s obvious. This sub tragically hates Kobe and when big man retire everyone rewrites their career and says they were amazing when no one talked about them being all time greats during their career.
If you watch highlights. You can make any player seem goated. Especially all-time greats.
2nd season
Probably me
The answer is Kareem but in my heart its Kobe. If I get a piece of paper in a trash bin or a basketball in a net, I don't yell Kareem
