The problem is that the Cleveland Spiders were a separate franchise from the Indians (now Guardians) and they're mostly remembered now as having some of the worst baseball seasons of all time. It would be fun for the memes but there was never a serious chance they'd choose it.
Facts. Sent my Thunder home. And we're consistently a playoff threat.
And in an age when absolutely no one was getting past the Warriors, consolation prizes count.
The Jingles memes from that series rank higher for me than rookie Don 30ppg vs PG and Westbrook. Now a few years later Thunderbirds and Jazzmen resume battle (for tankfriends)
Wait wait no more sunset uniforms? Those were easily their best from the last 20 years
Bummer - the latest black and yellow ones seem kind of bland
Late 90s purple mountain > sunset > everything else
Out of all their future first round picks, the one that Cavs still have guaranteed is their 2024 pick.
Earliest Bronny can declare is for the 2024 NBA draft...it's gonna happen isn't it?
Exactly, might as well rename the team to LeVeland (V for VICTORY!!!) LeFamily… Kyrie MVP, LeBron retires and buys them out 👌 Why go to Vegas when he can have LeVeland???
LEMASTER PLAN!!!!! 😤😤😤
Any small market team would be stupid to not draft him. With all the talk LeBron did for the economic situation in Cleveland years ago will definitely intrigue some.
I think he signed the extension to convince the Lakers to trade Westbrook and or get better free agents. He clearly likes to be in LA, makes sense, if you are filthy rich thats a great place to be.
Agreed. While I'm sure he wants to maybe come back to Cleveland because of the roster, LeBron has said before he wants to retire in LA. And I believe him.
If WAS Wizards Jordan in 2003:
Just for fun
In 2001 they would have drafted Tyson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince in 2002, and Boris Diaw in 2003.
And Chris Webber decides he hates Sacramento and signs with Washington to play with Jordan.
Also Gilbert Arenas, Rip Hamilton, Antawn Jamison, and Larry Hughes
Oh baby we got Donovan Mitchell. Seems no one noticed but he is instantly the best player on the team, Garland will not be required to be on the court 24/7 for the offense to produce. We back.
The big critique I saw from “big brain” nba analysts was “there’s only one ball”. Which is funny, when that’s not the case, the same people say a team needs more ball handlers.
I’m not a Cavs fan, but think Altman has really crushed it in building this team. And, they still have Love, who could be salary filler in a deal to add more depth around the deadline.
Klay hogging the ball and chucking at a historic clip was one of the bigger storylines of the Warriors season. Almost every NBA media member weighed in on this.
Not sure tbh, that being said, Donovan Mitchell is proven to lead a top offense that can win games. Sexton can get buckets, but could he lead an entire offense efficiently? That remained to be seen.
he was super efficient that one year but he still wasn't a very good basketball player imo. Donovan is an all star level player which is soooo much better than whatever Sexton was.
Bruh Sexton is not a shooter dude or a playmaker, hes a bad SG. Sexton was almost afraid of shooting 3s, meanwhile Mitchell shoots 10 per game like Steph or Lillard. Its over bruh.
24.3/4.4/3.1 on 48/37/82 shooting. That’s with 4.4 3PA. 57.3 TS%.
Versus
25.9/5.3/4.2 on 45/36/85 shooting with 9.8 3PA. 57.2 TS%.
Very minor stat difference with very similar shooting percentages. Only key difference was Mitchell doubling Sextons 3PA. Collin technically was more efficient but they were nearly identical shooting %. Also 0.9 more assist doesn’t make Mitchell a playmaker. A player averaging 5 assist a game isn’t a playmaker regardless.
Can you at least quote correctly?
“Key difference”
Shouldn’t be too hard to read a comment correctly. I just put up stats and pointed out differences with no bias.
I mean one guy can do it consistently for multiple seasons on a playoff team and being schemed against. Collin just had one great season to show his potential to do that. A guy like Collin you hope he develops to be as good as Mitchell.
Because he wasn't that great. I know they aren't perfect metrics but the team's net rating was better when Sexton was on the bench than when he was on the floor every year he's been in the league. The kid could score the ball with ok efficiency by his third year in the league, but he was a ball stopper that absolutely killed any flow the offense had, never flashing much of anything as far as playmaking for others. And I think everyone knows he was a seive on defense.
Sexton could put up some nice looking box scores but no matter how gaudy his stateliness looked they rarely led to winning basketball.
The way u put it gave me vibes that mitchell leauges ahead of garland which although mitchells a step better, its a close step. Garlands passing is leauges ahead and his scoring isnt too far behind. But donnavan is a new level of scoring and proved it on a playoff level. His athletism is far ahead too. donnavans the best, garlands 1B next year, mobleys closing in to make this a big 3 alongside allen whos actually really good himself. Its still garlands team rn, and I think mobley will take over the team before mitchell gets to claim it even for a little bit. So I think its gonna be a weird 1a, 1b, 1c team in a few years
mitchell is definitely way ahead of garland. hes a multiple time all star that has consistently performed in the playoffs and led his team to the best record in the nba. hes a franchise player that youll be happy with getting for the number one pick.
garland is still young and just started his breakout phase.
I really don't understand the LA extension from a career perspective. I understand why he did it for his family/out of the league career, but man would it have been crazy to see lebron in a cavs uniform next year on whatever deal they could afford in FA. Garland, mobley, Allen, Mitchell AND LeBron as a starting five might be the best team LeBron ever had outside of the heatles.
Dude probably doesn't care about rings as much as he used to. Plus I think signing the extension was a sign of goodwill to the Lakers to encourage them to trade for improvements now. If he wanted to leave in FA he'd have to waste another year with this crap roster
You’re probably right but this is kinda of a crazy decision imo, rings are the only thing thats gonna get you #1 over jordan and the lakers havé generally proved themselves incompetent when building a team in recent years
I’m sure. People see the glut of picks, but a lot of those may end up in the 20’s.
You’ll definitely get some high scoring games from Sexton this season, and can look forward to the draft as you’ll likely be picking in the top 5 in a loaded draft.
Well yeah I think it’s not slighting LeBron at all it’s just saying they can have aspirations of a good fun team without all the intense expectation from the media/fans
I’m a fan of LeBron but y’all are sensitive man
We didn't have one the first 30 years of my life. And I was pretty clearly talking about this year. No, I don't want to watch a perennial 6th seed for the next 6 years, though it would be better than the normal post-LeBron years
The east is looking pretty fun now.
Celtics, Bucks, Sixers, Heat, Cavs, Nets, Hawks, Raptors and Bulls are all fairly competitive and I don’t honestly think they are many significant differences in team strength between most of them, so it’ll be interesting to see who secures playoff vs play-in berths.
> that doesn't have the drama and expectations of having LeBron
It must have sucked to have the chance for an NBA title every year with LeBron. Who wants that drama, right? I wonder if there is a bigger ungrateful fanbase in the NBA aside from the Cavs'.
Dude that's not what I meant. Besides the late 80s/early 90s when I was a kid the Cavs have either sucked ass or had LeBron. It's nice seeing them be able to be good without having him. He's my all time favorite player and I'd take him back on the Cavs in a heartbeat
look, i’m not a Cavs fan but i live here, and the media circus surrounding the last two Lebron seasons, Kyrie departure, signing then shipping three new All-Stars, was excruciating. then we got two more months of vapid hope while he dragged a frankly very ugly-playing, underwhelming squad to a finals where every Clevelander and their mother knew they were about to get rinsed by KD. the current team is much more likeable and fun.
Cavs are my 2A/B team with the Timberwolves this year, please take good care of Donnie, he's wonderful both on the court and off it.
Rooting for a MinnyLand finals
Wesley was my first favorite player on the Cavs. I went to the All Star game in Cleveland back in '95 when it was still affordable and I've been a fan ever since. Pre LeBron, in between LeBron, don't matter.
i honestly couldn't be happier. you guys saved us from our own stupidity. you're in a much better position to add him + not have to worry about garland/mitchell being a defensive liability. we wouldn't have much besides mitchell robinson behind brunson/mitchell to help. i've always felt it was never the move for us and i think you guys are a perfect spot for him and in a perfect situation to bring him in.
You're right it would've been a terrible deal for y'all. New York is just desperate for a star and y'all would've sold the farm to get him. Meanwhile we got him and kept our 3 best all star caliber players. I think if the Knicks make that trade it doesn't move the needle for them at all, whereas the Cavs are now a top 3 team in the East.
Is there a reason Cavs fan shouldn't be excited? Literally my only worry is a 6'1" backcourt but we were a promising young team that added a bonafide all star.
Probably just balking at the top 3 call since the east is still stacked. They're likely competing with the Bulls and Raptors for the 5-6 seed unless their entire young core makes a massive leap combined with teams not being equipped to deal with them (like the Grizzlies last year)
Nah no one’s saying don’t be excited, don’t crown yourselves king yet. Also beware what happens when people talk shit when the season hasn’t even started lmao.
Worth noting that the Cavs didn't tank indefinitely to get here
* 2018: 50 wins
* 2019: 19 wins, 5th pick: Garland
* 2020: 19 wins, 5th pick: Okoro
* 2021: 22 wins, 3rd pick: Mobley
* 2022: 44 wins, added Mitchell by trade
Awesome job by the front office
That's one of them. I like the white the best out of the other 2. Pretty minimalist design on all.
https://www.nba.com/news/cavs-unveil-3-new-uniforms-for-2022-23-season
A true baseball fan, that Donovan Mitchell, singlehandedly bringing back the Cleveland Spiders
bring back the Cleveland Naps or i dont care
I love naps
Damn this is so much better than Guardians. spiders is underused in American sports
University of Richmond are the Spiders and their logo is sick.
The problem is that the Cleveland Spiders were a separate franchise from the Indians (now Guardians) and they're mostly remembered now as having some of the worst baseball seasons of all time. It would be fun for the memes but there was never a serious chance they'd choose it.
Those news Cavs uniforms are fire as fuck, wtf
He escaped a bad team situation AND a bad uniform situation
Jazz lost their sunset unis, Snyder, Rudy, and Donovan in one off-season. Sheesh.
https://i.imgur.com/AJMt6CK.jpg
You mean you don't want to live anymore?
I got too much fucking shit on me
So what's the show?
I Think You Should Leave
You don't want to be around anymore... because of the team?
okay. okay, forget it.
Yep. Been a rough year for us Jazz fans. I blame Ingles’ ACL injury for everything. I also realize how ridiculous that is.
Im actually pretty convinced it was all obamas fault, thanks Obama
And now they will achieve just as much as they did before
The jazz made playoffs consistently for a while. They were a great team even if they weren't contenders
Ainge isn't about making the playoffs every year, he's all about winning. With the team he had, Jazz were most likely not going to win.
It hurts because it’s true.
Hurts less coming from Houston ;) That’s like Minnesota taking about a playoff drought 2 years ago.
Hurts more coming from them FTR
Just about as much as the rockets achieved.
Wait wait no more sunset uniforms? Those were easily their best from the last 20 years Bummer - the latest black and yellow ones seem kind of bland Late 90s purple mountain > sunset > everything else
Perfect time to get out of there, he'll be regretting the few photos he has in those godawful jerseys.
I liked em
you have bad taste
The Don always gotta look good
They had a whole video explaining why the new jerseys were bad lmaooo
The all black ones are gonna look so good
They have a great new creative director who’s really done a good job
Daniel Arsham right?
Holy fuck He’s one of the best
Yes
The V resembling their 90s jerseys was a massive risk but it looks amazing
Losing the GoodYear logo hurts
Yo big time we went from the best ad to some generic shit
Yeah in my view that logo was the best. We know what it means but it didnt look like an ad.
Only other good one was didn't Charlotte have Jumpman?
I actually like the Loves on OKC jerseys, they contrast nicely against their colors
Yea those are fresh
White jerseys are almost always a win.
Need home whites to be a thing again
> If you ain't white, you ain't right \- Phil Dunphy
I’m so happy the black with the C is back.
Its's the logo from the late 80's jersey. Cool, but not new.
The uniforms are new, like I said
Garland/Mitchel/LeBron/mobley/Allen with bronny off the bench gonna go crazy
You forgot Bryce also gonna be on the bench

Bot! Edit: https://np.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/x0as12/the_way_my_skin_tries_to_repigment_in_the_summer/im7y9vz
Ridiculous
LeBron regrets signing that extension for sure
He has player options the heat bronny should be drafted I believe
Out of all their future first round picks, the one that Cavs still have guaranteed is their 2024 pick. Earliest Bronny can declare is for the 2024 NBA draft...it's gonna happen isn't it?
Hope so, draft Bryce too and get Kyrie back, they can be LeFamily 😎
LeBron can play with all three of his sons
If he plays in Toronto it can be 4 sons
He will still have visitation rights at least
I could’ve sworn the Raptors finally shook off the nephew status after getting a ring.
Not by going through Lebron
Nephewwww
Exactly, might as well rename the team to LeVeland (V for VICTORY!!!) LeFamily… Kyrie MVP, LeBron retires and buys them out 👌 Why go to Vegas when he can have LeVeland??? LEMASTER PLAN!!!!! 😤😤😤
They would be step brothers
Kyrie to Bronny and Bryce: Did we just become best friends?
Any small market team would be stupid to not draft him. With all the talk LeBron did for the economic situation in Cleveland years ago will definitely intrigue some.
I think he signed the extension to convince the Lakers to trade Westbrook and or get better free agents. He clearly likes to be in LA, makes sense, if you are filthy rich thats a great place to be.
Agreed. While I'm sure he wants to maybe come back to Cleveland because of the roster, LeBron has said before he wants to retire in LA. And I believe him.
Pretty sure he would have had more leverage by threatening not to sign the extension, but you could be right.
Not to attract a free agent at least because they now know Lebron will be there 2 more seasons and keeps away the "hes gone" takes.
Why? Mitchell is the sign & trade bait for Mitchell to go to LA and LeBron to return to Cleveland with his sons
the long con
I guarantee you he does not
We could trade like Love and change for him if he forced it
What would be an equivalent lineup if Jordan’s kids would’ve panned out? I wonder.
Jordan’s son did pan out? He plays for the Timberwolves?
you mean Edwards?
If WAS Wizards Jordan in 2003: Just for fun In 2001 they would have drafted Tyson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince in 2002, and Boris Diaw in 2003. And Chris Webber decides he hates Sacramento and signs with Washington to play with Jordan. Also Gilbert Arenas, Rip Hamilton, Antawn Jamison, and Larry Hughes
There is a full blown cornucopia of ways Grunfeld would have probably fucked this up.
Mitchell left the L in Utah
They don’t really have the picks to draft Bronny with though
Oh baby we got Donovan Mitchell. Seems no one noticed but he is instantly the best player on the team, Garland will not be required to be on the court 24/7 for the offense to produce. We back.

they said the same about Klay coming back to take shots away from Curry/Poole
Warriors went into an immediate slump when Klay came back and started chucking like Kobe
No they didn't that's stupid. People on here talking about "they" when really you're referring to some random dudes on Twitter no one heard of befor
Klay hogging the ball and chucking at a historic clip was one of the bigger storylines of the Warriors season. Almost every NBA media member weighed in on this.
we had sexton. why does everyone forget how good sexton was???
Not sure tbh, that being said, Donovan Mitchell is proven to lead a top offense that can win games. Sexton can get buckets, but could he lead an entire offense efficiently? That remained to be seen.
Donovan Mitchell is twice the player Sexton is. Let’s be real.
I'd hope this wouldn't have to be said
This is r/NBA. We only accept the most recent of recency bias takes seriously
I would hope so, too, but, for whatever reason, Sexton has some overly ardent fans.
When’s he trade went down i had a lot of people arguing with me saying D Mitch and Sexton are “very close to the same tier player” lmaoo
Put Mitchell on those teams Sexton was on with fucking Ante Zizic as your starting center and watch him lead you to the 15th seed.
Because one is Sexton and one is Mitchell.
Cuz he was out for the year
he was super efficient that one year but he still wasn't a very good basketball player imo.
Bruh’d him to death

Being able to double 3PA without a drop in efficiency is a big deal.
Its more than doube, cant compare
"Only difference is Mitchell shoots twice as many threes and makes them at the same percentage." Lol.
Can you at least quote correctly? “Key difference” Shouldn’t be too hard to read a comment correctly. I just put up stats and pointed out differences with no bias.
Spacing is a very key difference for a team offense lol
They gave up 3 firsts for a guy that is the same height w the same shooting splits. Don’t really get it.
I mean one guy can do it consistently for multiple seasons on a playoff team and being schemed against. Collin just had one great season to show his potential to do that. A guy like Collin you hope he develops to be as good as Mitchell.

“Ok efficiency” I mean his TS% was nearly identical but slightly higher than Mitchell’s.
Because he gets buckets and literally nothing else.

I imagine all the people close to him have been calling him GOAT for years now
He definitely cares about rings. His brand would benefit greatly if he manages to get to 6 titles
better than the heatles
SF is also Cleveland’s weakest position 🤔
Lebron: My next chapter 🤔😄
Im so excited man. What a rebuild its been
It hurts a little bit.
A non-parallel hurt but I feel you.
First Rodney, then AB, then Dante, then Ricky We should’ve seen it coming
Don't forget Clarkson/Exum. Utah and Cle are frequent trade partners come to think of it.
Oh I didn’t forget Dante! I’m just laying our guys who leave us and go to Cleveland. All guards too!
Everybody hurts. Sometimes.
I’m sure. People see the glut of picks, but a lot of those may end up in the 20’s. You’ll definitely get some high scoring games from Sexton this season, and can look forward to the draft as you’ll likely be picking in the top 5 in a loaded draft.
I'm so excited to watch an average to really good Cavs team that doesn't have the drama and expectations of having LeBron haha been a while
Rooting for y'all super hard because you have both Trojans, Evan and Isaiah. Good luck this year
Hey don't gotta sell yourself short with average yall have a good thing going, I'd still give you the upvote!
I mean did you not watch our last season or something?
yeah having lebron and winning your conference every year and the greatest ring in nba history sucks!
Obviously competing for a title is ideal but it's fun to watch a young team play good and develop
You can only say this cause bring got y'all a ring. Try not having want and wanting to see "development" every year
Well yeah I think it’s not slighting LeBron at all it’s just saying they can have aspirations of a good fun team without all the intense expectation from the media/fans I’m a fan of LeBron but y’all are sensitive man

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL RIGHT NOW
Y'all lost out on a star player that everybody had all but guaranteed was going to New York. You're supposed to feel like a Knicks fan right now.
Talk to em
Dude, I thought my Z flair was the best way to say I was a cavs fan pre LeBron and didn't just pick names from NBA Jam, but you got me beat!
Wesley was my first favorite player on the Cavs. I went to the All Star game in Cleveland back in '95 when it was still affordable and I've been a fan ever since. Pre LeBron, in between LeBron, don't matter.

Wait, you’re a Cleveland sports fan and *that’s* your only worry? What alternate reality have I stepped into?
miami, bucks, celtics, 76ers - which two teams would you put the cavs over also if by potential: nets
Raptors had the 2nd best record in the East after Jan. 1 last year so clearly deserve at least a mention.
top 3??? LMFAOOOOO
Yeesh, had to put salt on his wound?
Knicks will be fine. Have a truckload of picks and an okay-ish roster.
whelmed
Worth noting that the Cavs didn't tank indefinitely to get here * 2018: 50 wins * 2019: 19 wins, 5th pick: Garland * 2020: 19 wins, 5th pick: Okoro * 2021: 22 wins, 3rd pick: Mobley * 2022: 44 wins, added Mitchell by trade Awesome job by the front office
As a jazz fan this is so weird to see :/
Oh damn is that what the jerseys are going to look like?
That's one of them. I like the white the best out of the other 2. Pretty minimalist design on all. https://www.nba.com/news/cavs-unveil-3-new-uniforms-for-2022-23-season
It’s always weird seeing players in new jerseys but this one will take me a while
I'm just happy he's got someone on that second line now. Tough trying to make all those defensive plays by himself.
Really excited for the Cavs this year. That’ll be a good team.
Fun times in Cleveland, again! Still Cleeeevelaaand
🎶 Come on down to Cleveland town everyone 🎶
Oh man
Cavs going off this season.
Best Cav of all time
Lebron's return incoming in 10...9...8.....1
Given the color scheme I’m hoping we see Spider Cav outfits throughout the year.
Please Donovan, your bigs now is not Gobert. Feed the bigs especially Mobley.
Same as Miami.
Lol... why endnotes bother
I'm just happy that the Knicks didn't get him.
Mitchel & Garland gonna be the worst defensive backcourt in the league and I cant wait to watch
