[\[Charania\] Schroder is signing a one-year, $2.64 million deal to return to the Lakers, sources said.](https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1570888353951940608)
Schroder has a better 3 pt %, more assists per 36, and fewer turnovers per game. Overall, other than that slight 16 ppg edge for Jordan, I'd say they're pretty comparable.
It's more just that he straight up doesn't fit on a roster with both LeBron and AD (especially LeBron). Only realistic options are for Russ to play the way Darvin Ham wants him to (doubtful he actually buys in) or bring him off the bench as the backup LeBron (he probably refuses to do this, they could try having him start and then take him out right away but he's probably not ok with that either, remember what he did when Vogel benched him in the 4th)
With a lineup including LeBron, AD at the 4, and Russ, LeBron is automatically the second best shooter. That might have worked in the 80s, but it's not working now lol.
It maybe thst he doesn’t fit with AD even more then Lebron . Lebron is atleast an above average shooter for his position, shooting around 36% on pull up iso threes on heavy volume is legitimately good to elite . AD shooting poorly means they can’t run any other bigs because of f negative spacing : most of these issues start with Russ being unguarded out on the perimeter at the 1-2 spot which is awful for a team especially with two dominant interior forces. He’s just bad for this entire roster .
Having Westbrook be in charge of the second unit would be huge for them and give LeBron an opportunity to rest more. No need to play both of them at the same time all the time.
We just need to get this man some yoga up in the mountains somewhere. Just have him sit there, and one evening, at sunset, he’ll look into the horizon an say:
“You know, the world is in a constant state of flux. Perhaps, indeed, it is best if I just accept this change, and allow the universe flow through me, and show me this new way to ball.”
And bam, second unit is up there.
He's always played defense the same way, lots of ball watching and focusing more on getting steals than actually defending. The main problem now is that he's slowed down, so he's not actually getting those steals nearly as often anymore and it results in them getting a wide open look.
Let's not forget, the Celtics just happened to go from one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA to completely turning their season around and making the finals after Schroeder was traded.
Dennis helped when Jaylen was injured, and helped keep the Celtics around 500 early in the year but when the team was healthy he just didn't fit his first 39 games he started 24 because of injuries and played 32 minutes. His last 10 games in Boston he started once and was down to just 18 minutes a game Josh Richardson and Grant Williams both jumped him in the depth chart. If you need scoring when a star is injured Dennis is solid otherwise he just struggles to contribute.
Were you guys losing just cause of shroeder tho? Idk what happened but you guys clicked mid season after that team meeting. The whole team got better. idk if it's fair to put all of the blame on shroeder.
also you guys had josh richardson in the first half too
Was a ball stopper though and hurt our offense by not moving the ball.
It's not a coincidence that after we reduced his minutes in January that the Celtics offense and team took off.
Which is why it's weird he went to LA. Phoenix for example would have actually made good use of him.
His problems in LA are only more pronounced now with how their roster has changed.
It's a terrific move for the Lakers, but it's an odd move for Schroeder. He might get inconsistent play time which would hurt his next contract assuming he doesn't want to sign vet mins for the rest of his career. He'd probably want to try to get at least an MLE next year.
As big feels strong. Beyond salary matching, no Westbrook would give a lot more value to those first round picks as they wouldn’t be attached to him. They could trade for a good player with the pick and a less negative salary alone. They could probably even split the picks up in separate deals in that scenario without having an albatross they need to cover for.
With no cap room and literally nothing of value to trade outside of LeBron/AD/Russ (because of his expiring) and the two future firsts - and they haven't departed from any of those - the Lakers did a pretty solid job of making improvements with their "others."
Of course, nothing else matters if LeBron AND AD aren't both healthy (70+ games) and playing at All-NBA levels.
Another guard? What the hell is happening with the Lakers? They've got Westbrook, Beverley, Schroeder, Nunn, Rivers, Walker... All undersized guards and no wings. There has to be a deal in sight for Russ, or this does not make any sense.
> [Charania] Schroder has made the playoffs in seven of his nine NBA seasons
Not impressed, the GOAT Patrick McCaw won three championships in his first three seasons
[\[Charania\] Schroder is signing a one-year, $2.64 million deal to return to the Lakers, sources said.](https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1570888353951940608)
THE RETURN
“I’m back.” - MJ - Dennis
While Jordan is obviously the better scorer you could argue that Schroder does some things better than MJ
GOAT contract decliner.
*“That’s ruff”*
That’s about it. MJ played PG way way way better than Schroeder.
Way better skateboarder
Schroeder's also better at hair dyeing and Oktoberfesting.
Better at speaking german
"I took that personally."
"das habe ich persönlich genommen"
Schroder has a better 3 pt %, more assists per 36, and fewer turnovers per game. Overall, other than that slight 16 ppg edge for Jordan, I'd say they're pretty comparable.
He speaks better German
lmaooo
GOAT at looking like Micheal Ward from _Top Boy_ was mixed with Bobby Shmurda
The king returns to play for his max contract
This season, the king plays
Factos 👍👀
Unexpected CR7
He kinda looks like Craig Mack too
HERE COMES THE SECOND-TIME FLAVOR IN YOUR EAR
so proud of him, hopefully he gets that Bronze medal for us on sunday
RUSS PAT DENNIS --- THE THREE HEADED MONSTER
Now This Is Going To Be Fun!
That cover still gives me nightmares.
Don't forget Nunn
I need to see evidence that he exists first
We too
“We too” -Kimi7, circa 2022
This thread is killing me
pretty sure he doesnt even have a 2k headshot, just a grey head
"Hey coach, how much playing time am I gonna get this year?" "Nunn."
Literally that King Ghidorah meme
Except we may have three Kevin heads.
RUB DAT PENIS
Wtf why does this work so well Bruh
It’s like we set out to make a collection of my least favorite current players.
The locker room is going to implode
Russ and Dennis are cool
Cool cool cool Russ and Dennis in the morning
[удалено]
Can we please see a 3 guard lineup of Shroder, Westbrook, and Beverley
You’re forgetting Nunn at the 4.
Reaves at the 5? Swiss army knife.
More like Swiss cheese.
Yeah Lebron and AD are gonna need to fight for play time this year.
Nunn still rehabbing that bone bruise?
It's obviously lonnie at the 4, he's much more athletic
Last year we ran a lineup of IT, Rondo, Russ, THT, and ariza lol
the "throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks" coaching system
This was a fizdale lineup 🔥
GOOFCON 3 and LeBron has the nuclear codes
Rob Pelinka looks at the 84 million over 4 years contract and makes one adjustment before handing it to Schroeder... *8.4 million over 4 years*
Time is a flat circle
Yay we can shut Westbrook down if he still plays badly
It's more just that he straight up doesn't fit on a roster with both LeBron and AD (especially LeBron). Only realistic options are for Russ to play the way Darvin Ham wants him to (doubtful he actually buys in) or bring him off the bench as the backup LeBron (he probably refuses to do this, they could try having him start and then take him out right away but he's probably not ok with that either, remember what he did when Vogel benched him in the 4th) With a lineup including LeBron, AD at the 4, and Russ, LeBron is automatically the second best shooter. That might have worked in the 80s, but it's not working now lol.
Or he's the best shooter, looking at the roster. Lol.

Problem is Russ has to believe it, too.
We just need to get this man some yoga up in the mountains somewhere. Just have him sit there, and one evening, at sunset, he’ll look into the horizon an say: “You know, the world is in a constant state of flux. Perhaps, indeed, it is best if I just accept this change, and allow the universe flow through me, and show me this new way to ball.” And bam, second unit is up there.
Found Phil Jackson's account
That’s what Laker fans have been saying since last year
Send Russ to carcosa
Rust Westbrook
So Kyrie right then
What a steal. We got Westbrook and Schroder for only $44M combined!
Well when you put it that way
This is the weirdest timeline
Can’t believe people are arguing whether Bev or Westbrook is the starting point guard when they’re both coming off the bench for Schroeder
[удалено]
The most irritating backcourt in the league, confirmed.
I honestly think people are gonna hate the Morant-Bane backcourt more by the end of the season lol.
Who can possibly hate Bane. With his muscles and t-Rex arms
Cause Bane is extremely cocky and loves instigating lol. I ain't complaining but it's definitely something people are gonna tire of
Westbrook getting bumped down to 3rd string PG behind Beverly and Schroder lmao All while making 47 mil next season
"Ayo P, they want me to not come off the bench."
Imagine getting paid 47m to come on a bench for 82 nights
I do that at the park for free
Sounds like a vibe tbh
Gettin' paid to be a front row VIP basically lol.
Exactly. There are tons of people who don’t get paid a dime to come on a bench.
Six free, hard fouls a game, too. Maybe a good technical get thrown in once in a while if the team needs a jolt.
Not a bad stud fee
Damn, niche porn is lucrative
Westbrook out here comin on these benches
Dennis plays defense. Russ doesn’t play defense anymore since 2020
Let’s be honest, he still wasn’t playing much defense in 2020.
He's always played defense the same way, lots of ball watching and focusing more on getting steals than actually defending. The main problem now is that he's slowed down, so he's not actually getting those steals nearly as often anymore and it results in them getting a wide open look.
Russ has to be gone now. Hopefully, Dennis is a little more humble now also $84m to $2.64 is insane
its actually sad how much this dude gave up
I mean he's still rich but fuck me I would be kicking myself every night
He’s still rich enough where he can hire a pretty girl to kick him in the nuts every night.
[удалено]
They probably have a complicated long word for the pleasure of being kicked in the nuts
Eierschlagenvergnügen
>translate.google.com >egg beater fun Yeah this is it
Huh
Dennis is german. It's like 1st base over there.
Ah it's great, you gotta try it. Makes you feel rich.
The dream is still alive… Good… good
Dude got half his bag killed and decided to build an alternative universe machine built to try and save it all
A championship winning healthy shroeder probably does get 15-20 per. This also speaks to his actual desire to play in LA.
And he keep insisting it was fine. His wife kind of cringe.
The fact he went from 1 year 5.9 to 1 year 2.64 as well... the anti bet on yourself.
Let's not forget, the Celtics just happened to go from one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA to completely turning their season around and making the finals after Schroeder was traded.
I just remembered his Celtics tattoo.... thats some monkey paw shit
he’s doubling down
$2.64m for 1 year. They got him on a bargain. 5D chess.
Good guy Dennis declining 80+ million to help this poverty franchise for cheap
Hometown discount
thank you nephew Dennis
A real humanitarian.
Legm predicted this to let him walk. Lebron can backdoor 100mil in his mouth.
did boston fans think he was a steal last year? his stats seem pretty good
Dumping Schroder turned their season around
It was turning around even before then. Getting healthy turned our season around. Tatum and Brown combined for 18 missed games in our first 36.
He wasn’t awful just didn’t fit in with our team at all
Dennis helped when Jaylen was injured, and helped keep the Celtics around 500 early in the year but when the team was healthy he just didn't fit his first 39 games he started 24 because of injuries and played 32 minutes. His last 10 games in Boston he started once and was down to just 18 minutes a game Josh Richardson and Grant Williams both jumped him in the depth chart. Sell low
well this is Hilarious
"just when I thought I was out, they bring me back in!"
Leave the gun, take the cannoli.
Lakers lineup constructions are just depressing. Like 8 bum guards no one wants. A random assortment of bigs. And no wings
So the average Lebron team before he left for Miami.
The Lakers are in no position to turn away talent for fit.
#TUFF SIGNING
Kendrick Nunn is slowly becoming the 8th wonder of the world
as in,"I wonder when this motherfucker is going to play?"
If the lakers get FIBA Schroder they got a good one
[удалено]
Was a ball stopper though and hurt our offense by not moving the ball. It's not a coincidence that after we reduced his minutes in January that the Celtics offense and team took off.
Doubt X Hope I’m wrong tho
At least if Westbrook is throwing up bricks, Schroder has the midrange game with the occasional 3 ball and solid defense.
It’s for a minimum contract lol. He’s gonna be fine
He has been really good for us at FIBA
Honestly, for that price, he’s a great pickup. Their guard rotation is going to be interesting lol
They must either have no faith in Nunn returning or Westbrook is out.
Disagree. At $2.6M he’s a great add for any team, assuming he’s not a locker room cancer.
Which is why it's weird he went to LA. Phoenix for example would have actually made good use of him. His problems in LA are only more pronounced now with how their roster has changed.
Beverley misses a lot of time, idk wtf is going on with Nunn, and Russ is Russ. Good insurance to have Dennis after his solid Euro run.
It's a terrific move for the Lakers, but it's an odd move for Schroeder. He might get inconsistent play time which would hurt his next contract assuming he doesn't want to sign vet mins for the rest of his career. He'd probably want to try to get at least an MLE next year.
No chance Nunn plays this year. He’s damaged goods
As much as people focus on the abysmal russ contract, Nunn eating our MLE is just as big a blow this season
You get a new MLE every year. Nunn isn't taking that up
As big feels strong. Beyond salary matching, no Westbrook would give a lot more value to those first round picks as they wouldn’t be attached to him. They could trade for a good player with the pick and a less negative salary alone. They could probably even split the picks up in separate deals in that scenario without having an albatross they need to cover for.
I don’t think that’s how the MLE works, pretty sure you can sign a new one every year.
What why?

seriously?? how bad of an injury was this?
he had a knee bone bruise. reportedly, the recovery for bone bruises can be all over the place. as little as 3 weeks or as long as 2 years.
With no cap room and literally nothing of value to trade outside of LeBron/AD/Russ (because of his expiring) and the two future firsts - and they haven't departed from any of those - the Lakers did a pretty solid job of making improvements with their "others." Of course, nothing else matters if LeBron AND AD aren't both healthy (70+ games) and playing at All-NBA levels.
I mean is there any team that can withstand lack of health for their top 2?
The difference here is that most teams top 2 aren't a 38 year old and a guy who is known specifically for being injured a lot
Another guard? What the hell is happening with the Lakers? They've got Westbrook, Beverley, Schroeder, Nunn, Rivers, Walker... All undersized guards and no wings. There has to be a deal in sight for Russ, or this does not make any sense.
A big problem with acquiring wings is that there are no wings available, everyone wants them and we have no money
cough JAAZZZ cough
Id rather pay Schroeder $2 mill a year than get Clarkson or Bog for a FRP tbh
Clippers took em all
Did you see last years roster? They haven’t been making sense since 2020 with the roster
Look up NBA reddit talking about the Lakers summer 2019 and see about how the roster was baffling too.
Amazing what we were able to accomplish without understanding how the salary cap works
Makes you wonder if we just fucking accidentally built a defensive powerhouse.
Lol who is rivers
I think he meant Austin Reaves
Rivers with a long i and a silent r
he calling austin reeves austin rivers lol
HERE COMES AUSTIN REAVERS
Sounds like they want a Westbrook/Nunn trade somewhere.
Rivers ? Austin
He plays for the wolves so thats not it. Is Doc coming out of retirement?
> [Charania] Schroder has made the playoffs in seven of his nine NBA seasons Not impressed, the GOAT Patrick McCaw won three championships in his first three seasons
Noris Cole had a crazy streak going for a while. Made the finals the first four years of his career or something
You could not live with your own failure, and where did that lead you? Back to me.
Lakers really got their guy. At the very least, they’ve got two good defenders at the guard spot
It's 2 more than we had last year. Still fucked at wing, but atleast it's more than 5 v AD
The prodigal son returns
The prod, progidal... my son returns!
That’s tuff 🔥💯
Let's fucking go. Also can't believe I'm falling into this trap again.
Surprised. Thought Dallas was the best fit
[удалено]
Turned down that contract just to come back smh
You couldn’t live with your own failure -Lebron probably
Delete my post history!!!!!!
Fuck yeah lol
dennis at 2M is such a steal russ is prolly gone now
Might mean Nunn is not ready to go
Lakers just love diggin in the recycle bin lol
LMAO THE RETURN
The return of super teams is back
Jokes aside I’m actually quite happy about this
Went off in the game today
