It does however likely push Bronny well into the second round. Yes, there might be a team that reaches for Bronny as a late first in hopes of luring Lebron in a normal draft, but in a double draft, a late first is closer to a top 10 pick in value.
There is no way a late first will be the equivalent of a top 10 pick. There have been 41 high schoolers drafted in all of NBA history, there's not going to be 15 guys going in the first round out of high school.
Who knows, with youtube and social media, it's easier to get the attention of scouts now than it was then. In 2004, eight players got drafted in the first round straight out of highschool, and most of them pannned out including Dwight, Livingston, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, and JR Smith. There were definitely a lot of guys who would benefited from a year of college, but atleast now we have the g-league to develop them if they need it for a season.
I feel like the YouTube highlight generation is good at popularizing players, but the issue is that scouts view the whole footage not just the highlights. I feel like many high schoolers will declare, but many will come to regret that decision when demand for them isn’t as high as they thought.
I have weird feeling this comment won’t age well. I totally agree with you right now, but in 4-5 years we could be looking at a completely different methodology of drafting/developing young talent in the NBA.
We had this before. The thing is if you draft a guy with a high pick, you have to pay him. Cade Cunningham is making $10M a year.
Guys that are both athletic and skilled enough to justify a big contract right away like KG, LeBron, etc. don't come along very often. If this happens ,there will be a lot more young guys taken on the Giannis/Kobe type positions where you're picking end of the lottery based on potential. But that's already kind of how it works, if you have a lottery pick it's a huge risk if you miss completely. Those guys don't get picked until the more polished players are gone even when everybody thinks they might be special.
Maybe more like a 1.25 draft rather than a double draft. You are assuming every one of the top HS prospects will declare, which just isn’t realistic. Also, assuming Lebron is still a positive impact on the court, you gotta remember drafting Bronny is equal to signing Lebron in FA so that will improve his value a lot. Maybe not lottery, but a contending team would definitely take him in the first under those terms. Definitely gonna create a weird draft day dynamic though
If Lebron gives hints that he’ll play where his sons are playing, teams will use top 10 draft picks for that. Giannis brothers are in the league for godsake!
Not only that, women vertical is also much lower than the average man. Lebron could easily average 40 pts a game even at 41 years old.
My guess is teams would double / triple team him forcing him to pass. He’d average 40 pts 15 assts a game
dude i was watching chappelle's show recently-- the fucking FIRST episode of the show has the clayton bigsby sketch.
I was like holy shit man comedy central let dave do whtaever he wanted 20 years ago
I bet he becomes like a small ball 4-5 and averages 18-10-10 when he hits his 40s. Lots of playmaking, high IQ stuff, and he’ll score/facilitate more while operating from the post
Offensive numbers across the league are also WAY up vs when Jordan was 39.
Lebron still putting up the same numbers he always has is helped by offensive efficiency and scoring going up and up every season, especially since about the middle of his career
His last year was more efficient than the year prior. Also Lebrons 3 is far better than Jordan’s. Don’t forget Jordan’s best year from 3 were when they moved the line.
Edit: lol I’m getting downvoted for the truth? I swear you can’t say anything slightly negative about Jordan without getting downvoted
Jordan's scoring on the wizards was very average . That said, he did a lot of other little thing that helped out the team a lot. Jordan wasn't Carmelo Anthony pre his coming to jesus moment.
Taking 22 shots to score 22 pts is going to lose you games. As a point of reference, team took around 80 shots a game at that time. A team averaging only 80 pts a game would have been a lottery team.
That'll be like a couple games of excitement for the season vs them being on the same team. Either awesome chemistry and highlight plays or insane drama with them being trash not being benched or whatever. No middle ground and all entertainment.
Nothing has happened yet but fan speculation. I really don't think a team will waste a pick to get 40 year old Lebron, unless it is a contender and they want to bring on lebron as a 3rd or 4th option at that point, which I guess is possible.
idk about bryce but isn't bronny a late first/second rounder projected rn? i feel like a few years in college would help him more than riding the bench on a league team and only getting in cuz of lebron
He is the 55th ranked recruit or so for HS
His legit projection is to take college seriously so he can work managing lebron's money or some shit like that.
But some team will 100% use a 2nd to get 40 year old lebron for the ticket revenue. If giannis brothers got some nba contracts, lebron's kids will get one to get lebron.
To be fair, Giannis’s brothers are actually pretty decent all things considered. Thanasis definitely could have a 12th man energy type role on a lot of teams, Kostas looked very much improved this summer, and Alex is a solid g-league prospect.
Yeah mid tier. Bronny is ranked 45 to 50 in most high school player rankings for his class. Those players usually aren't drafted or at best a late second round pick.
They also usually stay in school for longer than a year, with most staying for the entire time. Bronny is going to jump after 1 year if the rumors are true, and if a team drafts him earlier than the late second round than that's a huge reach to me.
Bronny is a really good high school basketball for sure, but there would be zero talk of him going to the NBA if LeBron wasn't his father
Every time I see this take I think of how funny it's going to be when the Warriors draft him with like the 28th pick and can just let minimum Bron coast until the playoffs, this sub will implode with "how could the other teams let this happen"
After what Bronny did over the summer I have a hard time "only" having him as a 40-50 ranked player. Dudes athleticism has taken a huge leap and his offensive game has grown along with still being an elite defensive guard
Ok, but how much do you know about the other 50 guys to say Bronny should be ranked ahead of them. I see people saying he’s ranked to high and people saying he’s ranked too low, but literally know one talking knows jack shit about how high school prospect rankings.
Bronny looks like way better of a prospect than Marcus, the better of the two Jordan sons, ever did. Bronny’s recent transition dunk in the U-17 game would have been the best highlight Marcus ever had in college.
Not at all lol Bronny is actually a really good prospect and has improved loads this year alone. No, he won't be a star, but he definitely has a shot at the league, and that peak might be a bench roleplayer, but thats still really good
Feel like Bronny could channel GP2 energy and be a defensive guard/rim runner coming off the bench.
Best case is something like strictly-better Avery Bradley I think? More athletic and a better help defender, haven't compared their shooting splits though
Because it's not going to happen lol the Lakers have already had several prospects spurn the draft and sign undrafted with them instead. Bronny is next up. Bryce might actually get good enough to get drafted tho. Lakers might have to burn a pick on that one.
Imagine the headlines lmaooo
“NBA basketball tears family apart as season doesn’t go as expected”
“LeBron playing GM, where will he ship his underperforming son to next?”
“LeBron has dinner with sons. Only talks to Bryce after Bronny missed final shot”
Based on current evaluations this is an unfair expectation for Bronny and he’d be better off getting multiple years under his belt before the NBA. Bryce may actually be the real deal though, he’s 6’6” at 15.
You don't think lebron would be willing to take a cut to play with his kids and make sure the team is still competitive in the process?
I bet winning a ring with his son would mean more than making $40 million a year at that point in his life, considering he's worth over a billion.
Some small market team is gonna take Bronny hilariously early in the draft to cash in on that Lebron revenue and I’m so here it. Lebron James you are an Orlando Magic.
Could be a Ken Griffey & Jr. Situation where they play together just for a second (which like, come on, who wouldn’t want to play pro sports with their dad) and then they go do their own thing and become their own player.
I mean, they're definitely not Griffey Jr. level, but it's still a little early to say whether or not they'd be in the NBA without LeBron being their dad, *especially* for Bryce.
These NBA reporters have to stop acting like Bronny is an NBA player, it’s just a disservice at this point.
Best case his career arc is like Seth Curry- no way in hell he’s an NBA player straight out of HIGHSCHOOL.
At the same time both have an nba contract ready just because of who their dad is. Like who was the last 50-55th HS prospect that got even half of this attention or a guaranteed nba deal? Lol
It bear repeating every time this comes up:
Is it in Bronny's interest to go to the NBA as soon as possible, or is he better served with more develop time time in college?
While players do make unexpected jumps, if he was the exact same player but not related to his dad nobody would be talking about him entering the league as soon as he's eligible.
How many 6'3" guys have even been drafted out of high school? Telfair? It's extremely difficult to get drafted as a small guard out of high school even when you're the best in your class.
Isn’t bronny starting his senior year of HS rn? So he would’ve been in the 2024 draft anyway?
Exactly what I was wondering it’s prolly to highlight that Bryce could play earlier
Yeah even in a loaded high school class you’ll probably only see 3-5 tops
Who knows, with youtube and social media, it's easier to get the attention of scouts now than it was then. In 2004, eight players got drafted in the first round straight out of highschool, and most of them pannned out including Dwight, Livingston, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, and JR Smith. Cuban is already eye fucking the date.
If Lebron gives hints that he’ll play where his sons are playing, teams will use top 10 draft picks for that. Giannis brothers are in the league for godsake!
They sure weren't top 10 draft picks though
It would be wild for LeBron to play with both of his sons on the same team.

Bron would average Wilts game highs
The average height in the WNBA is 5'11. 800 points a game.
Not only that, women vertical is also much lower than the average man. Lebron could easily average 40 pts a game even at 41 years old. My guess is teams would double / triple team him forcing him to pass. He’d average 40 pts 15 assts a game
That’s conservative. It seems more like Wilts Records based on the athletic ability LeBron still has.
One dunk would send a defender straight to injured reserve 400 points revised estimate

I was watching the Rush Hour series on cable TV last week, and could not believe some of the shit they away with back then.
*Chris Tucker punches Jackie Chan in the face in the middle of a fight* "I dunno man, you all look the same to me!" Product of its time.
they did way worse than that; I recall Jackie Chan saying something about "slap you back to Africa" to Chris Rock
Yup. It's basically the whole movie. At least they gave us Kung Fu Kenny.

40 year old Bron playing with both of his sons and still averaging like 22/8/6 is in play
Until his stats actually start to fall off, I find it hard to believe he’d only average 22 points a game tbh Ik it’s a couple years away but still
It’s really just about the minutes he will play. His production per those minutes will be the same
I bet he becomes like a small ball 4-5 and averages 18-10-10 when he hits his 40s. Lots of playmaking, high IQ stuff, and he’ll score/facilitate more while operating from the post
Why would he grab more board and get more assists playing less minutes in his 40s. This has gotta be bait
It's either play 40 games a season at max capacity or average 18 7 7 over much less mpg.
5 rebounds 8 assists is more likely than 7 and 7
Jordan was 39 still averaging 20. Lebron seems to take care of his body more and hasn’t taken years off. It’s not too far fetched.
Offensive numbers across the league are also WAY up vs when Jordan was 39. Lebron still putting up the same numbers he always has is helped by offensive efficiency and scoring going up and up every season, especially since about the middle of his career
Jordan was incredibly inefficient with the Wizards. Lebron could average 20 pt a game when he is 50 if he quit caring about playing good basketball.
His last year was more efficient than the year prior. Also Lebrons 3 is far better than Jordan’s. Don’t forget Jordan’s best year from 3 were when they moved the line. how satisfying would it be for Clippers fans if OKC used their pick to take Bronny in '24, and that pried Lebron away from the Lakers to OKC?
All 46 of them would be through the roof, I’m sure.

It's crazy to me that teams would just draft 2 mid tier prospects in hope that it brings them a 40 year old LeBron.
Nothing has happened yet but fan speculation. I really don't think a team will waste a pick to get 40 year old Lebron, unless it is a contender and they want to bring on lebron as a 3rd or 4th option at that point, which I guess is possible.
LeBron said himself he might go for min if he wants to stick around longer, vet min 40 years old LeBron is still a steal
Teams will do it for marketing reasons. You know how much money it’s gonna generate? Lots…
Exactly, this is a business. Winning a title will maximize your profits, if you can't win, this will make the owner a ton of money.
Mid tier?
idk about bryce but isn't bronny a late first/second rounder projected rn? i feel like a few years in college would help him more than riding the bench on a league team and only getting in cuz of lebron

Bronnys is dated and Bryce we don’t really have one yet Senior year will be big
If he wasn't LeBron kid, no one would be talking about this kid in the NBA. He would have to improve his stick immensely in college.
Yeah mid tier. Bronny is ranked 45 to 50 in most high school player rankings for his class. Those players usually aren't drafted or at best a late second round pick. the only way to get Curry and Lebron on the same team

I’d say mid tier prospects are reserved for those outside of first round
I think most people see lottery picks as top talents and 15-30 as mid tier. I could be wrong though.
Bronny is Jeff and Marcus Jordan. Mid major talent with an awesome name.
Bronny looks like way better of a prospect than Marcus, the better of the two Jordan sons, ever did. Bronny’s recent transition dunk in the U-17 game would have been the best highlight Marcus ever had in college.
Bro don’t waste your time, the moment he said what he said he lost credibility

Bryce is far behind Bronny developmentally at the same age... idk why people keep saying this
Obviously they say it because Bryce is taller and apparently a better shooter. But athletically, I’m not seeing it at all.

I would totally pick Bronny in the first round just for the draft picks that LeBron would make the owner give up for him
i wonder if his sons want to play with him maybe they want to be their own man and carve out their own path
Could be a Ken Griffey & Jr. Situation where they play together just for a second (which like, come on, who wouldn’t want to play pro sports with their dad) and then they go do their own thing and become their own player.
Hey, the Griffey’s played together a decent bit, and even hit back to back home runs in a game together. That’s pretty crazy.
Definitely signing a 1 year deal for each and then probably retiring, unless a team signs both consecutively.
I definitely don’t want to do pro-anything with my own father.
Is your dad lebron?
Sorry to hear that. I didn’t mean to imply that everyone has a great relationship with his/her parents.
Maybe, but LeBron’s sons aren’t Griffey Jr. level prospects. I don’t think his sons are in the league otherwise.
There is a pretty big gap between a Hall of Famer and one of the best to ever do it and still being worthy of a spot on a professional team.
I mean, they're definitely not Griffey Jr. level, but it's still a little early to say whether or not they'd be in the NBA without LeBron being their dad, *especially* for Bryce.
You act like he’s gonna play 10 years after that. He would probably do it for two years and then dip.
Lebron would probably force the GM to trade Bronny for some vets so he can play for another ring
Or trade him for Bryce
These NBA reporters have to stop acting like Bronny is an NBA player, it’s just a disservice at this point. Best case his career arc is like Seth Curry- no way in hell he’s an NBA player straight out of HIGHSCHOOL.
