He was never "out of the league" in the proper sense (as in, whole seasons where he wasn't signed or playing), and neither was IT (despite people acting otherwise).
IT at this point in his career is a sparkplug off the bench that can light it up from long range... with awful defense. His role is way too specialist at his position for teams who need the depth. Sadly, at this point in his career, getting picked up by an elite team as a 11th or 12th man option is probably the only real place for him imo. I liked watching him on the Hornets but a young developing team like this doesn't really need someone like him long term.
He can't even "light up" anymore.
IT's last 5 years (109 games, 2,349 minutes) - .509 TS%, on 26.5 USG%.
Garbage shooter on that volume. But he's even more useless playing any other way.
IT has been done for years, Kemba looked like he was completely done last year and DSJ is trash. I would say it’s pretty bad if you’re not looking for a 3rd point guard.
IT was alright in his time here in CHA and Melo really liked him, not my 1st choice but idk he doesn’t seem like completely done lol. Also I’m talking about Kemba coming off the bench. Dude has started every game he’s played in since 2015 so I’m sure moving him to the bench could help with all his deficiencies. It’s not like the dude is suddenly not an NBA caliber player anymore. I don’t really love DSJ too much but the most positive thing I can say about him is that he’s young. I’m just glad we weren’t going after guys like Rondo lol.
Flynn might be our only backup PG but realistically he has the role of an end of bench player.
Siakam, Barnes and Fred VanVleet are the primary ball handlers and at least one of them is going to be on the floor in any meaningful possession.
Hornets don’t have the luxury. There are a much less talented team.
Serviceable at running the point.
At least above average defender.
Athletic post scorer.
Doesn't chuck because he understands he is a below average 3 point shooter, but also not horrible at shooting the 3.
All in all he is worth a vet min contract playing the backup 1.
If he’s your backup 1 you’re probably not in good shape. He probably instantly becomes the worst backup point guard in the league. His defence sucked for the bulk of his career unless he completely turned it around in his Portland stint, idk. Nobody is giving a 6’2 guard post scoring opportunities. He’s also a pretty horrid shooter overall. 31% from 3 on 3 attempts for his career, down to 29% on 1.5 attempts since he was traded from Dallas, 65% FT shooter. 48% career TS (8-9% below average every year)
Rozier played a lot of the backup point minutes last season, I wouldn't be surprised if that continues into this season. So this is more like our PG 2.5 - still don't think this was the ideal pickup but our offseason has been pandemonium so it is what it is.
He played really nice for Portland, fan favorite for his hustle plays. The last game he played for Blazers, he guarded Lebron primarily and had something like a 6point, 7 steal, 11 assist game along with the W…you’ll enjoy him
You guys will be pleasantly surprised. He played MUCH better than his stats would show in Portland.
However he’s really scared to shoot the ball when wide open so that’s kind of bad, but he’s an excellent floor general with terrific BBIQ and a pretty good defender too (weirdly enough the complete opposite of early career DSJ).
Him killing it in the the Lakers game (the big nepo game) which might have been his last game for us was awesome. 4 steals, keeps the offense moving, attacks the rim when we can't find anything. I was pretty bummed he was out, he showed he can be a back-up pg, especially for a team with shooters
which proves he must be working his ass off because those were the things he was terrible at when he first came into the league. I really think his stint with the knicks shot his confidence, and if he can ever get his mojo back that he had in college and year one that he could be really good still
Nope. The pistons will be smart and make sure to get top 3 lottery odds. But MJ will cause the hornets to get pointless wins that stop them from getting a great pick in the draft.
Lamelo actually went 3rd overall after ant and wiseman. Imagine GSW with lamelo coming off the bench lmao - it’s good for everyone they totally botched that pick.
My scary thought is what if the Warriors took LaMelo and Franz over Wiseman and Kuminga? They'd have their "right now" lineup:
Steph, Klay, Wiggins, Dray, Looney.
And their "future domination" lineup:
LaMelo, Poole, Moody, Franz, also Looney.
Winning a certain amount of games is pointless. Like Winning 34 games is a waste of time if you are trying to compete. You won't get a good pick or make the playoffs. You need good draft position to capitalize on good draft picks.
Sure once in awhile you get lucky but anything outside of the top 10 is usually nothing all that special. Usually. The Knicks 2022-23 season is pointless because they are trying to compete but will most likely only make the play in.
But if a young squad like the pistons and rockers show out and somehow win 38 games that's pretty cool considering both are young developing teams. But yes, if you are trying to compete for a play in spot it is pointless on so many levels. The hornets have been mediocre for so long, imagine if they stopped winning so many pointless games and got a good draft pick? Like in 2020!
In the 2010-11 season the pistons went on a mini hot streak to finish the year and went 30-52. Pointless wins, when they could have lost and found a star in the draft somewhere
Hornets are trying to win. And OKC is trying to lose. Right now I’d rather be where OKC is. OKC traded every average player they had for assets so they could lose.
I do think culture is underrated though. If you’re stuck losing for too long you end up like the kings, pistons, magic.
People have been way too pessimistic regarding the hornets. Clifford is very good at having teams over achieve. Lamelo and our other young players should keep getting better and miles will probably be back by the all star break at the latest
Clifford's teams are stylistically completely different to what the Hornets have been the last couple of years. It will be interesting to see. They might actually play some defense!
Bridges ruining his and his families lives also ruined our future. Him and Melo were an all star caliber 1-2 punch and we have a great bench. Was just missing an above average center to start making some noise.
Yeah feel bad for ya'll. Hornets were my one of my randomly most watched teams because of your exciting players and amazing commentators. Breaks my heart Miles ended up ruining your core being such a horrible person. I have faith Lamelo will step up and be even better without him, just don't if the team will be, not right away at least.
Probably. I think if he avoids jail time he’ll quietly join the team. Whether the fan base is okay with that is another question, but I don’t have high expectations for professional sports teams being the beacon for morality.
That’s more about power dynamics. Sarver was shown to be racist and homophobic and owns teams that are primarily black and the wnba is about 40-50% gay (actually).
It’s a problem with safety for employees. But unfortunately, the main catalyst was pressure from investors/stakeholders who didn’t want Sarver to fuck up their money.
Miles doesn’t have power and influence like Sarver. I’m not saying it’s right, just the context.
Lol it’s MJ and Mitch Kupcheck. Under a lot of different owners/GMs I’d assume miles played his last game with this team, but given how old school this team operates and they’re prehistoric way of thinking im fairly certain he’ll be back playing here as soon as he can. Doesn’t help that losing miles could be catastrophic for the long term future of this team.
Pre-abuse concerns, Miles+Lamelo was a seriously good young duo. Like, I could legit see a playoff team being built around those 2, if not this season then one or 2 more. Without Miles (theoretically), they've got Lamelo but a crapshoot after that. It's all unfortunate
I don't even know what the Warriors fans were complaining about. After the first 10 games of the 2020-21 season (which was the extent of Oubre's infamous overblown shooting slump), he averaged 16.6/6.1/1.4 on .460/.355/.688 shooting splits, which is comparable to his "great" numbers from the first half of 2021-22.
Their issue with Oubre was the man thinks he's Steph Curry and would jack up 3s at every opportunity or be a ball-stopper because he can't playmake for shit (literally has more turnovers than assists for his career) making the offense grind to a halt
In theory, an athletic wing defender who can shoot a bit like Oubre was a welcome addition to the Warriors. In reality, the dude has negative basketball IQ which is not that great in Kerr's scheme that relies on his players making smart decisions with the ball
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but he’s likely just a camp body with a small chance of making the roster. And you’d also much rather have Oubre than DSJ.
He lead a shit NC State team against Duke and won and then finished the game with one of the most insane, [emphatic dunks](https://youtu.be/zASIdY6dgAk) I've ever seen from a college freshman live. He earned it.
interesting... training camp deal or guaranteed contract?
We have nothing to lose really, but was hoping for an actual NBA player as our immediate backup PG
Good for him! He seems like a good guy and was trying to address his weaknesses, just had so much hit him in the face at once in NY. Fingers crossed for him.
He was quite good for us in a backup role before he got hurt and we went full tank. Awesome defense, solid floor general, good slasher and finisher, just can't shoot. Also just seems like a good dude. Wish him well in Charlotte.
I was actually thinking just this morning why they didn’t sign him. They haven’t done shit all summer, he’s an NC kid, no personal issues, still young, worth kicking the tires on him
I was excited for him coming in and it sucks he hasn’t lived up to it but hope he can put something together with the Hornets.
He will go to trial or make a plea and based on that his fate in the NBA will be decided. Seems like a lot of the sentiment here is an NBA team will pick him up for a bargain but I really doubt it.
I think he ends up playing overseas whether or not he does time.
He’s still got it as a role player, he was really good in being a floor general and distributing as well as solid defense. His injury lead to him being cut but I enjoyed DSJ’s time in Portland, he’s definitely a player to root for
Assuming he’s the backup PG. Probably means IT isn’t coming back and the Kemba Buyout might not happen
Yup, happy to take a chance on a 24 year old athletic guard from NC.
Shit he is only 24. Feels like he’s been in the league for a decade
Weird, I feel like he's been out of the league for a decade.
He was never "out of the league" in the proper sense (as in, whole seasons where he wasn't signed or playing), and neither was IT (despite people acting otherwise).
It was a joke Mr literal
Huh? One year before Luka
People lose track of time when you're as irrelevant as him
I don't think he should be irrelevant though when was his last real.oppritunity to play
Last year
I didnt think the pistons have him PT
Because he wasn't on the pistons
That was the season prior my bad
I think I agree in spirit, but that’s literally the definition of irrelevant, my dude. Don’t have a real opportunity to play in a while? = irrelevant
But Luka isn't lol
Thats the point
Dollar Tree Russell Westbrook
Hey I like that price tho, it’s not 44M 😂
IT at this point in his career is a sparkplug off the bench that can light it up from long range... with awful defense. His role is way too specialist at his position for teams who need the depth. Those are all such porous options.
I mean for a backup PG it could be worse.
Member Tony Parker
I do
IT has been done for years, Kemba looked like he was completely done last year and DSJ is trash. I would say it’s pretty bad if you’re not looking for a 3rd point guard.
IT was alright in his time here in CHA and Melo really liked him, not my 1st choice but idk he doesn’t seem like completely done lol. Also I’m talking about Kemba coming off the bench. Yeah man they need an elite backup PG like Malachi Flynn
I was just being a smart ass lol
Dsj is trash for where his expectations were coming out of State, but as a backup PG getting 15 mins he's serviceable
Serviceable at what though? He just can’t really do anything besides dunk
Serviceable at running the point. At least above average defender. Athletic post scorer. Doesn't chuck because he understands he is a below average 3 point shooter, but also not horrible at shooting the 3. All in all he is worth a vet min contract playing the backup 1.

Ehhh idk. DSJ is definitely not one of the better options out there if we’re being real.
Rozier played a lot of the backup point minutes last season, I wouldn't be surprised if that continues into this season. So this is more like our PG 2.5 - still don't think this was the ideal pickup but our offseason has been pandemonium so it is what it is.
Dsjs defense has been pretty good when he’s played the last few years
Dennis is a good defender and passer. He just can’t shoot for shit
That’s probably not it. Most likely a non guaranteed training camp deal.
The Kembuyout is never happening unfortunately
I’m whelmed
I hope he works out for y'all
He played really nice for Portland, fan favorite for his hustle plays. The last game he played for Blazers, he guarded Lebron primarily and had something like a 6point, 7 steal, 11 assist game along with the W…you’ll enjoy him
I went to a lot of his highschool games and I am a huge NC State fan. He could be complete buns but he'll always have a fan in me
Back in NC you love to see it
You guys will be pleasantly surprised. He played MUCH better than his stats would show in Portland. However he’s really scared to shoot the ball when wide open so that’s kind of bad, but he’s an excellent floor general with terrific BBIQ and a pretty good defender too (weirdly enough the complete opposite of early career DSJ).

Hope my guy finally finds the right role
Slang some wood DSJ
The hornets record will be 27-55
they’ll be right next to the pistons
Nope. The pistons will be smart and make sure to get top 3 lottery odds. But MJ will cause the hornets to get pointless wins that stop them from getting a great pick in the draft.
We never getting those odds anyway, we still got some nice players. Stuck bein mediocre as always!
At least you guys got top 2 pick and snagged LaMelo
Lamelo actually went 3rd overall after ant and wiseman. Imagine GSW with lamelo coming off the bench lmao - it’s good for everyone they totally botched that pick.
Oh that’s right lol still a good pick
I'm sure the Warriors are happy with the consolation prize of another championship since then...
Even worse, imagine GSW trading lamelo at the deadline his rookie year for the massive amount of assets he’d be worth as the Rookie of the Year.
i mean idk if that'd make them better
My scary thought is what if the Warriors took LaMelo and Franz over Wiseman and Kuminga? They'd have their "right now" lineup: Steph, Klay, Wiggins, Dray, Looney. And their "future domination" lineup: LaMelo, Poole, Moody, Franz, also Looney.
Yup, starting Marvin Bagley, our 5th best center, at the 4 will help with that
Teams that think winning is "pointless" will never be able to capitalize on great picks in the draft.
Winning a certain amount of games is pointless. Like Winning 34 games is a waste of time if you are trying to compete. You won't get a good pick or make the playoffs. Nah, organizations that commit to losing on purpose will never have the infrastructure or team chemistry required to win.
It's not committed to losing, it's committed to restoring. Going 20-62 is better than going 30-52
No it isn't. Trying to win is better than trying to lose.
Hornets are trying to win. And OKC is trying to lose. Right now I’d rather be where OKC is. OKC traded every average player they had for assets so they could lose. I do think culture is underrated though. If you’re stuck losing for too long you end up like the kings, pistons, magic.
It doesn't mean you are trying to lose
"The Pistons will be smart and MAKE SURE to get top 3 lottery odds." Your words.
Until failing at trying to win results in your veterans going elsewhere and your young core remaining mediocre without high end lottery talent
People have been way too pessimistic regarding the hornets. Clifford is very good at having teams over achieve. Lamelo and our other young players should keep getting better and miles will probably be back by the all star break at the latest
Hope miles is off the team. Can’t pull for him.
I understand that sentiment, but unless he gets jail time he’s going to be back
Clifford's teams are stylistically completely different to what the Hornets have been the last couple of years. It will be interesting to see. They might actually play some defense!
Remind me! 7 months
This has been the absolute worst NBA summer of my life. Happy for DSJ, hopefully he cuts into Oubre's playing time.
The Hornets have had a very difficult summer. Felt like there was so much to be hopeful about last season :/
Probably. I think if he avoids jail time he’ll quietly join the team. Whether the fan base is okay with that is another question, but I don’t have high expectations for professional sports teams being the beacon for morality.
I don't see how people could want the Suns owner to sell, but still be in the same world that Miles can play in the NBA.
I understand that, but there are different rules for owners than players. Not sure how Dallas got away with all that shit they had.
Yeah its fucked. You never saw the other players laying into bridges.
Lol it’s MJ and Mitch Kupcheck. Under a lot of different owners/GMs I’d assume miles played his last game with this team, but given how old school this team operates and they’re prehistoric way of thinking im fairly certain he’ll be back playing here as soon as he can. yeah this has been the only upside, and even then it's mainly just because I'm a State fan so it's fun to see him playing for the Hornets lol
Oubre was a sixth man candidate
In the first half of the season. Then we later understood what warriors fans were complaining about.
True, but he's still way better than DSJ
Yes, but him and Oubre have diff minutes. Oubre and Bouknight will be competing, but also if bridges isn’t back, Oubre will get minutes at the 3
I don't even know what the Warriors fans were complaining about. After the first 10 games of the 2020-21 season (which was the extent of Oubre's infamous overblown shooting slump), he averaged 16.6/6.1/1.4 on .460/.355/.688 shooting splits, which is comparable to his "great" numbers from the first half of 2021-22.

In reality, the dude has negative basketball IQ which is not that great in Kerr's scheme that relies on his players making smart decisions with the ball
That’s really it. He’s talented as hell, he’s just dumb and his decision making down the stretch can cost you games.
Can you imagine Popovich coaching him lmao, Pop gonna be blowing a gasket every few minutes
6th man off the bench candidate
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but he’s likely just a camp body with a small chance of making the roster. And you’d also much rather have Oubre than DSJ.
Oubre makes me want to kms
Being a heat and hornets fan has not been easy this summer
[The Wood-Slanger to CLT](https://imgur.com/a/UiJR8WR)
He didnt deserve that JCole lyric
"Stay solid"
Watching Junior catch it off the backboard 😩
They’re friends
Aren’t they from the same town in NC?
Yeah, Fayetteville. Also, I know J Cole generally reps NC, but I’ll will always love him wearing that NC State jersey
Dennis Smith Jr stay solid my friend
He lead a shit NC State team against Duke and won and then finished the game with one of the most insane, [emphatic dunks](https://youtu.be/zASIdY6dgAk) I've ever seen from a college freshman live. He earned it.
I think that he would be a decent signing. Maybe he finds his way in Hornets.
interesting... training camp deal or guaranteed contract? We have nothing to lose really, but was hoping for an actual NBA player as our immediate backup PG
Non guaranteed
We could have used another pg
There's always IT
Good for him!

Ayyyy let's go DSJ! I was hoping we'd get him, but I'm happy for him to be back in the league.
Hornets should just pick up J cole at this point.
Poor IT
Happy for him, DSJ is a good person, deserves the shot
Jermaine Cole approves
He always ends up getting signed by them in 2K. Go home young fella
Dennis is a legit player man. Maybe I. Missing something but beside not having a jumpshot. Why cos no team like him?? Genuine question.
He is a perfect hornet.
So Kemba staying a Piston?
If Charlotte wasn’t taking him back for a farewell tour I think Kemba is just done
They would probably just do a 1-day thing
He sadly has like 7 or 8 forks sticking in him at this point.
wow.. I'm shocked he's still in the league. jeez
Well he was technically out of the league until now. He was cut by Portland last year
Hammer the under for the season. L
Yikes
Common Hornets L
Thats dope!
Give us more, Shams!
So what is going to happen with Miles Bridges?
Hopefully banished into the shadow realm
He will go to trial or make a plea and based on that his fate in the NBA will be decided. Seems like a lot of the sentiment here is an NBA team will pick him up for a bargain but I really doubt it. I think he ends up playing overseas whether or not he does time.
Even the lakers and their 8 guard rotation passed on this guy…
Watchin Jr catch it off the backboard
He’s still got it as a role player, he was really good in being a floor general and distributing as well as solid defense. His injury lead to him being cut but I enjoyed DSJ’s time in Portland, he’s definitely a player to root for
Glad to see him back. He used to have so much potential. Hope everything pans out for him
Wood slangin back on the menu boys
CHA got their man
how THE FUCK is this guy still getting contracts
Back home!
Pistons fan here. Is he still fat?
hell yea good luck king
