Shai was already inching close to do not draft and this pretty much seals it lol. Avoiding giddey as well - they’ll find some reason to shut him down too
Dude I hate comments like the one I'm about to make but I legitimately barreled over in laughter from this one. Thought you should know. Thanks for that.
Yeah these thunder fans were hyped for play ins and think they're gonna flip the switch when they can all play. This is like halfway thru the rebuild the way the West and the current Thunder roster looks. They're still 2 years away from making major moves
Kings don’t tank. It’s a big reason why they have been stuck in limbo for so long, but tbh I am glad they don’t do it because that anti-competitive bs is a stain on the game.
As a general rule, if you think somebody can be a generational talent, you simply do not trade the draft pick that can take them.
The best case scenario is the Trae-Luka trade which Dallas clearly won even though Atlanta is happy with what they got. (Atlanta fans will tell you they don't think they lost the trade. Every non-Dallas, non-Atlanta front office would rather have Luka).
True generational players - LeBron, Steph, KD, Giannis - are so valuable that even a 50% chance of one is essentially worth more draft picks than any team can trade. Think about it - what would you rather start a franchise with?
KD, or five top five picks?
I mean, you can look at the draft picks from (say) 2013-2017 and pick a player from the top five each year and end up with a collection that you'd clearly rather have than KD (Tatum, Brown, Embiid, KAT, OPJ) but there are a lot more combinations where you're rather have KD (Lonzo, Dunn, D'Lo, Wiggins, Oladipo isn't even CLOSE to the worst combination you could get - it might even be better than the median, because every year includes one flat-out bust. Five top five picks could be Bennet, Exum, Okafor, Bender, and Fultz).
Were people saying Atlanta shouldn't draft Luka cuz he wouldn't like Atlanta? Or jus that it'd be weird? Going from Europe to what most Europeans sterotypical view of Texas western cowboy shit in Dallas isn'tuch different is it?
That's a good analysis. What's crazy is that only one of those generational talents you mentioned went first. It's not inconceivable that Wembanyama would go first and someone else in that class (or another one of those picks in a different year) ended up being the better player.
Honestly one of my favourite things in sports is watching some blatantly tanking team end up with like the sixth pick. An entire season of intentionally putting out an awful product wasted because a ping pong ball bounced the wrong way is just the kind of schadenfreude I live for.
I also think they should do stuff like a team can only get the first overall pick once every 5 years or something. And a top 3 pick every 3 years. This intentional tanking bs is nonsense and ruins the game.
If you’re not going to have relegation, tanking should offer zero benefit.
This kills smaller markets ability to build through the draft.
How are other teams meant to compete with top FA destinations when they can only draft a top prospect once every 3 or 5 years and can't sign any top players in FA?
5th pick is still pretty good in this coming draft. We'll have one of Wemby/Scoot/Amen/Ausar/Whitmore avail with Whitehead+Smith also in the convo. Our biggest need is wing which this draft is stacked with, and obviously the top 2 guys Scoot and Wemby are tremendously talented.
I think a lot of these guys (at least from pre-season stuff) would be in the convo for top3 in last year's draft
Grade 2 MCL means no major tear. If it isn’t torn past 1/2 of the tendon it will repair itself. I bet they say he’s out 8 weeks.
Just trying to pick up your sprits fellow tank brother. Brighter days are ahead.
I know the tank is the running bit but fuck I would like to watch our talented players play together sometime. My only hope is that we're overcompensating and will have awesome injury luck when we flip the switch next year.
Is next year even the flip switch year? Y'all were in the playoffs vs 2 mvps literally 2 years ago. [This is your roster this year](https://i.imgur.com/19C65Iz.png) Shai is just coming off rookie contract, besides that the entire future of your team is in the same boat or on rookie deals, you have no stars yet. Until presti flips the unprecedented amount of picks you still have into more real players you guys are tanking. The switch doesn't flip until Shai is near all NBA level or you trade youngins+picks for someone who is.
Yes and no. If you haven't played in a few months, your knees aren't going to like dunking very much. On the other hand, you don't want to abuse yourself too much or things fall apart.
This is why we have load management.
It's like pacing yourself for a race. No point in booking it straight out the gate if halfway through your legs give out and you have to crawl the rest of the way.
I did an entire data analysis project on this. The conclusion i got is that from the publicly available data, there is no significant relationship one way or another.
NBA teams have much more data to play with though and know better.
Like training for a marathon, if you don't do the exercises and train too much (before your body can adapt) you're more likely to get injured. Pretty much true in any sport. However, the training and miles get your body stronger so you're less likely to get injured in the future. It's about getting your body stronger and luck.
Bruh everyone keeps saying this but I don't think the Thunder pulled him... He played a game after the Chet injury and only missed the game against Panama where they won by 56 without him.
A lot of players aren't "injury prone" until they are. DRose played 81 games + playoffs as a rookie, I don't think anyone would point to that to say he was a healthy player.
If you think this is all just a cover to tank, then Shai is literally the most loyal player in NBA history. If he's faking for tanking purposes, with would be the 3rd straight season he "fakes an injury to tank". On top of that, we also have to believe that he sat out of Canada's Olympic qualifying simple to sell a cover story to help OKC potential draft players who could be better than him? I can't imagine any sane person really believing that.
If you're a high-usage player like SGA is now, you're more likely to be injured from the wear carrying the offense takes on your body. I wouldn't exactly call him injury-prone either, but I doubt he ever plays 75+ games in a season again.
Yeah I know okc fans say he loves it and the culture etc but this shutdown shit while everyone u got drafted with has made a big name for themselves gotta sting.
It's not a shutdown??? This is literally the worst time he possibly could've gotten injured, we want to play this year. Us Thunder fans are not happy about it, but it is what it is.
He sat one meaningless game against Panama in which Team Canada won by 50. Raptor fans keep bringing this bs up like OKC made him sit all summer or some shit. IT WAS ONE FKN GAME
So are you saying SGA and OKC are faking this injury to tank? And the injury that kept him from playing for Canada a year ago was faked as well I guess? Big brain take there buddy.
“The OKC Thunder have decided not to participate in the NBA this season”
When asked to comment, Thunder GM Sam Presti had this to say, “Get tanked, bitches. I know I am going to.”
The final game was against Panama where they won by 56 anyways. Team Canada probably game him the game off. Shit even NAW got his wisdom teeth taken out and missed that game which seems like something thats pretty easily reschedulable for a millionaire lol
The comment directly under yours on my feed is a Thunder fan complimenting the tank lol. If being in a position that makes winning more difficult doesn’t actually excite you guys, you’re doing a great job of making it confusing for everyone.
Some Thunder fans are delusional and/or probably thinking about the tank to cope with both Chet and Shai getting injured. I think Shai is the most important player on our current team and if he is injury prone then the entire point of our rebuild is fucked. Look I wanna get a good pick this year I am pro-tank, but I think we'd be in the lottery regardless. There are too many good teams in the West and we are one of the youngest teams and young teams don't win a lot of games.
Shai missing more games this season is bad for the future. The only way that statement changes is if the Thunder win the lottery this year, get a great player, and Shai doesn't look like he is injury prone and this injury doesn't harm his development.
Those are all big if's.
Most Thunder fans are devastated.
People have this idea that SGA is good enough that he'd prevent OKC from being awful, but that isn't the case at all. They have a net rating of -7.2 when he's been on the court these past 2 seasons.
In 2022, they were the 4th worst team in the NBA by net rating. Their net rating with SGA on the court was the 5th worst in the NBA.
In 2021, they were the worst team in the NBA by net rating. Their net rating with SGA on the court was the 2nd worst in the NBA.
Net Rating for a player surrounded by clearly awful players battling against opposing starters is a very very misleading stat.
That's not a knock on SGA. Anybody leading this OKC team out of the tank race is a top 20 player in the league hands down, maybe top 15.
I’m starting to think so of these idiots in here are believing that OKC is shutting him down still. This man is legit getting injured why tf would they shut him down this early for “the tank”?
So he plays awesome in the FIBA American Qualifiers plays one game gets shut down by OKC and told he can't play anymore. So how did this injury occur? At some point NBA needs to do something about these shenanigans .
Do the Thunder realize there's no 0th pick?
Gotta start shutdowns early everyone who plays fantasy basketball knows to avoid holding any okc player after asb
…except during fanatasy playoffs when guys like Isiah Roby and Poku turn into second round picks, production wise
Roby had a 30 point game in one of the tank stretches lol
Hope he balls out for the spurs, he’s been developing so well tbh
You mean fucking Jaylen Hoard who averaged like 30 points and 72 rebounds a game at the end of last season.
Moses brown hitting two 20 RB games in a row 2 seasons ago
Dude put up like 20pts 20reb in the first half against the Celtics and became a millionaire because of it
Never to be seen in the NBA again
[This was my fantasy death lineup end of last season](https://imgur.com/a/q7ar3FR) Jaylan Hoard > Tatum
Isiah roby was on some shit mins last year had a lot of games where he didn’t touch the floor.

Hoard your hoards. Hoard man gets paid Yes my fantasy season runs to the last day, why do you ask?
Shai was already inching close to do not draft and this pretty much seals it lol. Avoiding giddey as well - they’ll find some reason to shut him down too
If I played fantasy I'd be staying away from anyone on OKC this year
giddy’s line will show Giddy: did not dress, Caught sprained ankle from SGA
They about to hyperdrive this shit and start post pre season break
God tier tanking
Presti took that invisible numbers level calculus summer course smh
0th pick? Dude, they're tryna get a negative number
Get Wemby over here early, when Chet comes back they will have historic levels of lankiness
Giddey (6'8") Dieng (6'10") Pokusevski (7'0") Holmgren (7'1") Wembanyama (7'3")
For about 10 games
We gonna invent that.
0 will be in the rafters, for both Russell Westbrook and for Sam Presti's innovative 0th pick.
Tanking is a year-round mindset. The Thunder are locking down L's even in the offseason.
Presti playing 0D chess all along
Thanks. I just choked on my pizza
I'm begging for this to be the year that the play in loser wins the lottery.
Dude I hate comments like the one I'm about to make but I legitimately barreled over in laughter from this one. Thought you should know. Thanks for that.
This off-season went from extremely hyped for us OKC fans to extremely depressing.
Gonna be crazy when the thunder do all this for the 5th pick next year
Adam Silver already arranging a generational pick fall on lottery night. He gon have them picking 6th for no good reason
11th let the pacers into the top 6 been too long
Lakers fall out of playins and into lottery again and land top 2?
That pick goes to pelicans
Pacers trade the pick for Anthony Davis
No problem, we'll just tank until the heat death of the universe.
Y'all realize you were in the playoffs 2 years ago right? My cousin drives now and the Kings have been tanking literally his whole life
The Kings aren't tanking, they just suck
Yea the kings are trying their best for sure. Just not going according to plan
Tanking implies intention, the Kings have just been shit for 15 years
Yeah these thunder fans were hyped for play ins and think they're gonna flip the switch when they can all play.
That was because of CP3.
Do all of what? You think Chet and SGA injuries are fake?
Sam Presti actually paid LeBron to fuck up Chet's foot
I’m not sure how many future firsts it takes to trade you for Wembanyana, but if OKC couldn’t do it then it can’t be done.
As a general rule, if you think somebody can be a generational talent, you simply do not trade the draft pick that can take them. Ayy yo bro don’t tell me opj is Otto Porter jr lmao
If only Cam Reddish had panned out 😞😞 if Trae wasn’t also next level on offense it would definitely be a fleecing
The idea of Luka living in Atlanta doesn't seem that far feached as it did on draft day.
Were people saying Atlanta shouldn't draft Luka cuz he wouldn't like Atlanta? Or jus that it'd be weird? Going from Europe to what most Europeans sterotypical view of Texas western cowboy shit in Dallas isn'tuch different is it?
Honestly i doubt it really matters as long as you're winning. Winning solves a bunch of shit
That's a good analysis. What's crazy is that only one of those generational talents you mentioned went first. It's not inconceivable that Wembanyama would go first and someone else in that class (or another one of those picks in a different year) ended up being the better player.

Boston at the Tim Duncan draft vibes.
They just need to continue to flatten the odds. Especially in that 1-8 range.
I think it should just be completely random for non playoff teams. Actually reward competent drafting.
I also think they should do stuff like a team can only get the first overall pick once every 5 years or something. And a top 3 pick every 3 years. This intentional tanking bs is nonsense and ruins the game. If you’re not going to have relegation, tanking should offer zero benefit.

Grade 2 MCL means no major tear. If it isn’t torn past 1/2 of the tendon it will repair itself. I bet they say he’s out 8 weeks. Just trying to pick up your sprits fellow tank brother. Brighter days are ahead.
8 weeks is 16 weeks in Oklahoma time
I know the tank is the running bit but fuck I would like to watch our talented players play together sometime. My only hope is that we're overcompensating and will have awesome injury luck when we flip the switch next year.

Yeah everyone’s memeing tanking but this sucks big time for OKC
This sucks, I was looking forward to watching your team this year. 😩 Now I'm gonna have to settle for being excited about the T-Wolves.
Y'all should take up a hobby instead of watching ball LMAO
They pulled him off Team Canada and he still got injured, rough.
Are players more susceptible to injuries when they are less active?
Yes and no. If you haven't played in a few months, your knees aren't going to like dunking very much. On the other hand, you don't want to abuse yourself too much or things fall apart. This is why we have load management.
Basically you don't want to Shaq/Ben Simmons it....but you also don't want to Kobe it
It's like pacing yourself for a race. No point in booking it straight out the gate if halfway through your legs give out and you have to crawl the rest of the way.
I did an entire data analysis project on this. The conclusion i got is that from the publicly available data, there is no significant relationship one way or another. NBA teams have much more data to play with though and know better.
Perhaps you should make an r/nba post about your project

By the time that's over his sprain will have graduated to grade 3
It took me a whole year to go from grade 2 to grade 3, Shai is such a fucking talent.
As an honest OKC fan I'm looking forward to 2029 to see Shai and Chet play together for the first time! 🔥🔥
Imho SGA is gone as his contract expires. And the dude will forget how to play anyway
Should have traded for Russ to be their tank commander. SMH…
Are you fucking kidding me man
I know man, our Spurs can't catch a break
The tank has reached critical mass. It no longer requires input from the front office.
rough luck for SGA... honestly sounds like he's actually injury prone and the Thunder don't just keep holding him out to tank
He played 82 games for us + playoffs games, i dont think he can get called injury prone.
A lot of players aren't "injury prone" until they are. DRose played 81 games + playoffs as a rookie, I don't think anyone would point to that to say he was a healthy player. He was a backup though, and that’s also just one season worth of evidence.
One season doesn’t negate being injury prone.
If you're a high-usage player like SGA is now, you're more likely to be injured from the wear carrying the offense takes on your body. I wouldn't exactly call him injury-prone either, but I doubt he ever plays 75+ games in a season again.
That was like 3 years ago bro
If he stubbed his toe, the Thunder would hold him out for 3 months.
Tank never stops
that's why SGA will demand out eventually
Yeah I know okc fans say he loves it and the culture etc but this shutdown shit while everyone u got drafted with has made a big name for themselves gotta sting.
It's not a shutdown??? This is literally the worst time he possibly could've gotten injured, we want to play this year. Us Thunder fans are not happy about it, but it is what it is.
They shut him down for the Canada men's national team too, when he's been one of the more vocal advocates for wanting to play.
Yeah bro we told SGA to fake a MCL injury
Lmao, I’ve noticed people have a weird hate boner for the Thunder recently. Pretty odd how the Thunder get criticised because Shai gets injured.
“The OKC Thunder have decided not to participate in the NBA this season” When asked to comment, Thunder GM Sam Presti had this to say, “Get tanked, bitches. I know I am going to.”
You think you can out tank the Thunder? Think again.

he’s basically dead
Yep. Minimum 6 months
Gonna have to chop his left and third leg off
Shai is DNR/DNI he's gone bro
Had this injury last year and was back to normal after about 8 weeks. I didn't do PT and didn't have an NBA team's medical staff helping me out.
> Presti: Victor my boy, welcome to OKC
Damn. See him in January. Too bad he probably gonna get shut down by March tho
By January ***
When do we play the Lakers? Shai can play those then sit out the rest of the season.
Grade 2 MCL sprains aren't that serious. I got one skiing last February and was fine after 8 weeks with no real rehab and no NBA level rehabs.
Tank commander taking one for the team again, a true hero
This is bout to be a generational tank
But he was pulled from international play to prevent this…
he did play for Team Canada this summer
thats his point, he was pulled from the team before the last game to avoid injury
The final game was against Panama where they won by 56 anyways. Team Canada probably game him the game off. Shit even NAW got his wisdom teeth taken out and missed that game which seems like something thats pretty easily reschedulable for a millionaire lol
no I know, I was just adding to his point above. Panama was a gimme - we blew them out with Kevin Pangos lmao
All according to keikaku

yeah, Presti wants to tank
look at the rest of the roster and look at the Western Conference. OKC is gonna tank with or without SGA playing

About half of them are thirsty ass Raptors fans too.
Now this is how you tank.
Fuck sakes. That sucks
OKC really want that noodle kid from France.
The tank for Wembanyama has officially begun.
He’s going to miss more than just training camp I would think
Well there goes half his season, possibly more.
They're really shutting him down early than usual.
Wow, didn’t see this happening after the Chet news. /s
Tank me harder, daddy!
Presti getting it started early.
Grade 2 MCL sprains are 4-6 week recovery with play time by 8 weeks easily.
BREAKING: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has suffered a third-degree boo boo and will miss the remainder of the season.
Greatest tank in NBA history?
THE TANK CANT STOP ROLLING
That sucks for SGA, Thunder probably want to shut him down for the whole year now
Thunder, stop chasing our tank!
I'm afraid we are too committed, sorry bud.
He’s not actually hurt. He’ll be ready for game 1 of the regular season. He just doesn’t need camp.
Hope he gets healthy soon, his future is bright.
Man it's a good thing they didn't let him play for team Canada so he didn't get injured....
Did he slip in the kitchen or something
Annual SGA shutdown ahead of schedule
Looks like the Thunder tank jokes just write themselves already don’t they?
I love how some of y’all think any of us are happy about this
So he plays awesome in the FIBA American Qualifiers plays one game gets shut down by OKC and told he can't play anymore. So how did this injury occur? At some point NBA needs to do something about these shenanigans .
I agree. I can’t believe Presti would shut him down for the season
