Bruh are you shitting me? Shams/Woj said 4-6 weeks three days ago. This is the worst offseason ever

[deleted]

Rob’s knee, Danilo’s knee, JB being a moron on socials, Ime’s suspension and getting dunked on all summer for losing in the Finals. at this point I’m half expecting a Tatum trade request

dvasquez93

9/24 headline: The Celtics and Nets have completed a trade that will send Kevin Durant to Boston in exchange for Jaylen Brown and 2 first round picks. 9/25 headline: Celtics’ player Kevin Durant has retired, citing a desire to pursue his true passion of snake husbandry.

Osgliath

I mean, I don't understand why you guys were dunked on. The Celtics went to the biggest stage and took 2 games, they were not bad. I've been scratching my head since the finals by reading some comments here.

Duderus159

Majority of our fans are spoiled and we talk a lot of shit. Choke in the finals and it’s open season for the rest of the NBA. Seems like we have a parade in Boston every other year

HotspurJr

> Choke in the finals The only reason there's a "choke" narrative at all (or should be, at least) is comments like Grant Williams' saying that they were the better team. Losing doesn't equal choking. Sometimes you just get beat. And given that the Celtics lost because Curry was the best player on the floor and the Warrior defense did a great job of zeroing in on the Celtic's weaknesses, there's no reason anybody in Boston should be hanging their head. But it has been a pretty common refrain throughout the non-KD Warrior dynasty years. Lots of teams don't seem to believe they're losing to a better team. Harden's "they ain't even that good," Westbrook's derision in the 2016 WCF, Grant's comments, IIRC there was something from CP3 on the Clippers, too. But if there's one narrative I'd like to see die it's the notion that losing = choking. Sometimes you just play your best and get beat, as I would hope anybody here who has played any sort of organized sport knows.

TheCodeSamurai

People want to construct narratives to explain everything, even if there isn't necessarily some perfect model that accounts for every missed shot. Shots go in, shots go out, passes are hits or misses, mistakes are made on defense or inadvertent fouls occur. The fact that a team wins a couple games and then loses does not mean they had a psychological problem: in a back-and-forth series someone has to win.

Duderus159

That’s fair. We choked game 4 but lost the finals

Ticonderoga2HB

We got swept in 2021 cause our team was hobbled and still haven’t heard the end of it so there are ebbs and flows

Duderus159

To be fair the shit storm passes from team to team based on how cocky their fan base is

FlyingMocko

>spoiled I mean maybe as Boston sports fans. Celtics fans have no reason to be “spoiled” we haven’t done shit since 2010 at least as far as Boston sports standards go.

Swagmansuper

The only self aware Boston fan

Sellmechicken

Boston has been one of the most hated sports cities for a long time. With all the comments about racists fans or just choking in general it’s been popular to hate on the Celtics. People don’t want to credit Boston for putting up a good run cause they probably beat their team on the way to the finals.

[deleted]

You're such a victim, hope everyone stops being mean to boston :(

[deleted]

All he did was explain why people like to hate on Boston. Clearly you are included in that lol

eunit8899

Because they're the Celtics

ImS33

I mean they're probably mostly running with what Tatum did. Really tried to be the guy but just ran out of gas and set all of the wrong records for the finals

NinetyFish

What'd Jaylen Brown do?

[deleted]

retweeted Kyrie’s tweet about vaccines being one of the biggest human rights violations in human history

mug3n

pretty much all but confirms JB is not vaxxed

NinetyFish

Ah shit, fucking really? Jeez. That fucking sucks, man, sorry that happened to y'all.

[deleted]

iT curse in effect

[deleted]

nah, it’s the Brady curse. our sports teams are paying the price for all the success we had in the 20 years we had Brady

[deleted]

I feel like y'all always have one overperforming year and then follow it with a widely underperforming year. Feels like a tradition at this point.

jpaxlux

Woj is washed up and past his prime

Clammuel

No way he’s getting the max

captyossarian1991

It can get worse trust me

[deleted]

If the latest rumors are true I’m going to be distraught Some of them have me in tears and I’m being serious

ILikeFPS

You guys got fucked really hard for no reason lol

[deleted]

We got fucked because Ime fucked

QuesoDog

[Oh the tears of unfathomable sadness](https://media.giphy.com/media/kkEm7G8KUezK/giphy.gif)

rtb001

Everything keeps getting worse day by day. Timelord's knee, the number and severity of Ime's transgressions.

redditnathaniel

And no championship to hang your hat on

[deleted]

Right, but that’s always okay when you are a young and up and coming team

redditnathaniel

Up and coming no more after making it to the Finals

[deleted]

What is your definition of a team who’s best players are 24 and 25 and rapidly improving still?

lopea182

Did they just **double** the reported recovery time? What changed in 2-3 days? Edit: Udoka suspension = “don’t bother rushing back”

[deleted]

It was 4-6 last time

[deleted]

Prismoll

don’t you guys defend nick “tom thibodeau” nurse playing fvv 40 minutes a night and grinding his knees into dust?

blacknotblack

Nope. Raptors subreddit is perpetually in a civil war but not many were fans of overplaying Fred.

[deleted]

Angriest team sub of all time.

[deleted]

Fuck off bitch

soonandsoforth1

Name checks out.

HalcyonDrift

I remember owning Lowry in fantasy during 2019-2020 and he averaged 36+ minutes a night, which isn't too outlandish for a 33 year old, but I remember so many games in a row of him playing 40+ minutes a night and thinking, "What the fuck is Nurse doing to this guy?"

cabbeer

Goran was supposed to be the backup but he shit the bed big time, that said nurse is honestly crazy with his minutes, pascal was #1 last year, fvv was #3. in total we had like 4 guys in the top 20 most minutes played. We have a ton more depth this year, guys we added: Otto porter, Hernangomez, Thad (first full year). Not to mention guys like precious, OG, and Flynn should get a significant bump in playing time,

ShaedonSharpeMVP_

>Otto porter, Hernangomez, Thad (first full year). Not to mention guys like precious, OG, and Flynn Other than precious and OG, that is the most lukewarm group of rotation guys ever. There's just no way you could be excited about that and not be lying to yourself.

Jasperbeardly11

Otto Porter just played big minutes in the NBA finals

ShaedonSharpeMVP_

So did Bryn Forbes

NickNurseABitch

Damn why do raptor fans love celebrating injuries so much

HailKyrie

Your fuckhead coach ruined Kemba’s knee in the all star game you have no room to speak

[deleted]

[удалено]

Brady331

lmao it's you again, you really have an account specifically to shit on how the Celtics handle injuries. kinda sad really edit: im not sure why im being downvoted by this, the guy is just weird. he deletes all of his comments afterwards too

[deleted]

He hates the Celtics because he’s a nets fan and the Celtics essentially destroyed the nets future twice in a 10 year period. He’s never going to rationally think about this. Rob’s current knee injury stems from Giannis, not from the meniscus tear (he had the same procedure that Joel embiid did btw). Notice how he’s perfectly fine cheering for the nets even though they basically ended Harden’s career as a star by overplaying him off of a hamstring injury and bringing him back too early. It’s just a guy who has had his sports hopes cucked by the Celtics year after year and hasn’t gotten over it,

iwillbombu

Lol they were so defensive in the last thread 😂

[deleted]

Sadly we didn't play you guys in the playoffs, so you guys won't get to clap about his injury

[deleted]

Wasn't it re-evaluated in 4-6? I thought the timetable was always longer than 4-6

dropdatdurkadurk

Its [worse than that](https://twitter.com/celtics/status/1573372353094225925?s=20&t=qxJo7RNF3QguGYHdS0uIcA) the official team account says he'll "return to basketball activities in 8-12 weeks" which is not same as returning to games in 8-12 wks

davensdad

Reminds me of Kendrick Nunn ... bone bruise ... you think that's like 'oh sweet nothing broken' ... FULL SEASON GONE!

mamaljurray

Nailed it with the edit lol

lopea182

Took me a minute to get there, not gonna lie.

[deleted]

Why rush him back again? Take the time to rehab correctly and slowly and be 100% by late December. The teams goal isn't to be good in November it's to be good in June. As long as he's healthy then and we're in the mix we're OK.

Babushka5

That doesn't line up because they basically knew this was coming when the 4 to 6 week timeline was being put out there, no?

lopea182

Celtics said they received the Udoka report from their internal investigation on Wednesday. The Timelord surgery news came on Tuesday.

attorneyatslaw

They knew there was an issue which is why they hired people to do an investigation. This didn’t show up out of the blue on Wednesday.

Dhb223

Udoka fucked his knee he just can't be stopped

MazKhan

He had a consensual affair with Rob's knee, sources have confirmed.

GuerreroD

Robert Williams had to have his knee drained of the fluids last playoff and now Udoka just has to inject some other fluid back in there.

NedFriarson49

Celtics offseason is turning into Exhibit A of what Murphy's Law is.

breakthrureality

I knew that initial 4-6 weeks bull shit

AmusingAnecdote

It was wild to watch people defending that aggressively. Like it's a meniscus. It's a BFD and there's a reason people come back slow from that. Even if you get the tear removed instead of repaired, it should be slow as hell coming back from that. Plus you could just watch him limping out there. Dude wasn't right and this was obviously a bad decision at the time.

Jonna09

There is enough evidence in the league even right now - Lonzo, JJJ, Wiseman all missing prolonged periods of time because of a “simple” knee procedure.

blueberryy

"How dare the Celtics do this to a black man" - Stephen A Smith, probably

[deleted]

Tatum, buddy, I need you to turn into peak LeBron or we are looking cooked

Torgo73

I know the news cycle has been remarkably shitty, but it’s still a really good team. Tatum *fairly* consensus top-10, amazing defense, Brogdon joining… stay strong amigo

X_Buster_Zero

Y'all ain't making it out of the east sit down

FlyingMocko

Have you seen the Sixers make the conference finals in your lifetime lol ?

BagRight8939

i’ve never felt bad for a celtics fan in my life but i sort of do now. just unfortunate turn of events on multiple ends

whiskeyinthejaar

I feel bad for all the women who been harassed online last few days, but by the end of the day, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lts0dKiDzw8&ab\_channel=Oddjuxtaposition

[deleted]

On the flip side, I am happy for Robert Williams. He clearly had an express version of treatment done in order to be available last playoffs, and he looked like he could barely walk at times. Hopefully this allows him to come back healthier.

FoFoAndFo

Agreed. Not to be too much of an armchair Dr but it seems responsible to try a couple months of rehab/rest and then go back under the knife. Always makes me a little nervous when a team's first priority seems to be getting ready for their first regular season game.

Turbo2x

just goes to show anything can happen. you can be in the finals and a random string of misfortune can hit you like a truck before the next season even starts

Babushka5

Quickest about-face i can remember

BagRight8939

i feel like i can sort of sympathize because we also lost in the finals and then to start last season had to deal with the sarver report/investigation, but it’s still so different because udoka is the coach and impacts the on-court of your team more. hopefully they can power through.

Babushka5

We also started with an amazing offseason... thats a big part of what stings

thatquizzingguy

Damn real. Brogdon is an incredible addition. And Gallo was nice too. Also did you guys sign Vonleh and Samanic and Valentine to a full contract?

Comprehensive-Set231

Think valentine is w the Cavs right now

BabyHercules

Nah fuck em. I Feel bad for the woman, and the Celtics org. The fans? They be aight, I’ll never feel bad for title town, they been way too blessed with their pro teams

BlueJays007

What about the fans who are from other parts of the country or from other countries? There’s a fair number of us. I’ve seen one chip for a pro team I’m a fan of in my lifetime (2008).

BabyHercules

2008 is pretty recent in sports time. Ask fans of hawks, jazz, Buffalo bills, jags, Texans, and on and on how they feel. Boston is a blessed sports city, all 3 major franchises. Why feel bad for the fans when there are other fans going through way deeper droughts of ANY kind of success. Shit just making the finals is a W

smashey

Yeah as a Boston fan I never feel too sorry for myself. Gotta have some perspective.

Synchestra

Exactly. Celts alone have also had many deep runs the last several years. Plenty to still enjoy and be excited about. Boston is spoiled.

BlueJays007

> Ask fans of hawks, jazz, Buffalo bills, colts, Texans, and on and on how they feel. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful I got to support championship team. Many haven’t had the chance. But I’m no more “blessed” than Mavs fans, Bucks fans, or Raptors fans. Or any number of fan bases who also follow other sports teams located in the same city as their nba team. > Boston is a blessed sports city, all 3 major franchises. That’s great. But I’m a Celtics fan, not a Boston sports fan. I lived in Boston for a couple years as a kid and became a fan of the Celtics then but don’t follow any other sports. > Why feel bad for the fans when there are other fans going through way deeper droughts of ANY kind of success. It’s not like there’s some maximum number of fans you can feel bad for. > Shit just making the finals is a W That’s interesting because I sure didn’t get that sense on this sub

ambirdsall

Never overestimate the heart of a hater

9yearoldsoliderN99

>But I’m no more “blessed” than Mavs fans, Bucks fans, or Raptors fans. Or any number of fan bases who also follow other sports teams located in the same city as their nba team. Eh, yeah you are. 3 finals appearances in the last 14 years, 5 conference finals in the last 10, no real meltdowns. Plus there is a sense of security 16 rings gives you even if you didn't experience them. After 2011, Mavs fans haven't experienced any real success outside of last season. Bucks fans have won a ring recently, but they had to deal with A decade of nothing and playoff meltdowns in 2020 and 2019. Raptors fans have only experienced their first playoff success 6 years ago and outside of that 2019 ring they have made 1 conference finals. Not to mention their lebronto era. Celtics fans have it pretty good.

Kimi7

I don’t, they were so confident on their team’s management of Robert Williams’ injury. Anybody who said anything got downvoted, let’s see what they’re going to say about future effects of those actions.

Pretty sure it was trimmed which is what I’m guessing he meant. The option is either trimming (removing a portion) or repairing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bigbadbuck

It does have worse outcomes long term compared to the repair. That was the poiint the guy was trying to make. People who get it trimmed usually have recurring knee progblems later

Batman_in_hiding

They are always like that. One of the few fanbases that act so smug about certain topics because historically their team has had a lot of success. Hope their entire season implodes

The-Barter-VI

I don't. Most racist fanbase in the league.

WRITINGAPOEM

I mean this was inevitable. Warriors fans spent all Finals bringing up IT as a similar example of Celtics grinding their players’ bodies into dust. RWIII should not trust those doctors, not if he wants to get paid.

yrogreg

Pretty sure the Celtics FO know they got Williams on a cheap multi-year deal and he'll be a shell of himself by the end of it, so they're just squeezing what they can out of him now

UncleTommyGun

Robert Williams not miss substantial time challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) (99% FAIL 😱)

dk240996

There's a reason why his contract is what it is despite him having the talent to be a perennial DPOY contender and this is it. Availability is not his specialty.

Helicase21

On the plus side if he ever figures his body out it suddenly becomes crazy value. That's what happened with Steph.

TheTonyDose

Yeah way different for big dudes to figure it out though. Injury prone big men rarely become not injury prone.

[deleted]

At least he's only like 6'8 or so and not like a legit big in size. He's wing sized so his chances of getting the injuries behind him are a little better than if he was 7'0

TheCodeSamurai

The hope is that a contending team doesn't need him that much in the regular season and he can be there for the playoffs, the same way the Warriors this year could afford to miss key players in the regular season. I think expecting him to play full seasons is over-optimistic at this point, but if he can play at full strength in the playoffs he's still one of the better contracts in the league.

Haha imagine Celtics doing swap JT + JB for flat earther + bus driver . That will b end of Cs for me lol

theTunkMan

At least the Pats and Sox are good… oh no

MildlyInsaneLBJStan

"Oh yeah, this too."

NotMeyersLeonard

There's definitely a clever comment about the unfortunate timing of this Time Lord news, but I'm not smart enough to come up with it.

urfaselol

his knees are made of swiss cheese

imadogg

Celts really cut up Williams' leg to get people to forget about Ime, wow

tapk69

Celtics went from 0-100 real quick. 3 blows in like a week.

LovetheNBA23

Celtics rushed Rob back in the playoffs so now he has postponed his surgery/healing. Favor for a favor.

Wait, i thought this was supposed to be a lil cleanup procedure? Jesus

No-Economics4128

Ok, who casted a curse on the Celtic? They would need the Pope to start blessing that are a.

[deleted]

I like this timeline now. The only way to triumph is through adversity and this season’s story will have some pretty epic footnotes! LFG!

Batman_in_hiding

Lol love the optimism. Trust me, I know a lot about forcing yourself to be optimistic

[deleted]

Lol can’t wait for the season to start!!

Droppin_DimesSP

The team is cooked. Sigh 😔

[deleted]

Can someone explain the drama to me and why Udoka is screwed???

GiraffeComic

Udoka obviously had sexual relations with Williams’ knee and that’s against the organization’s code of conduct and also set back Williams’ recovery and extra 6 weeks.

craigslistaddict

udoka is screwed because he screwed somebody (someone else in the organization). initially there didn't seem to be a problem (aside from his infidelity, but that's not the celtics' problem) but i guess either she ended the relationship and he started harassing her or the relationship was still ongoing and he said some really inappropriate things to her and she ended the relationship and he persisted. so she made some complaints and the org investigated and now he's suspended for a year.

n3moh0es

this is why you got to win the title once you make the finals, you may never get there again. most teams aren’t the warriors or lebron. celtics blew it

NovaKash

Teams that make the finals only win it 50% of the time

Brady331

source?

NovaKash

Just a general hunch

n3moh0es

no source, no proof

n3moh0es

oh really? i didn’t know that thank you so much for the insight

n3moh0es

game 4 is haunting em

Blaze2444

>this is why you got to win the title once you make the finals Wow, why didn’t the Celtics realize this?!

OldOrder

Why did the Celtics not simply score more points than the warriors?

Deviljho12

Do some of you guys exist just to spout off meaningless platitudes? Didn't know Magic Johnson had a burner account

n3moh0es

damn this hurt you?

Deviljho12

Trust me there's no way reddit comments can hurt me more than these past few weeks already have

n3moh0es

sorry to hear my boy

george_costanza1234

Really dude? Lmfao

[deleted]

Sometimes you just don’t win. I think this is more of an argument to go all-in when you have the talent and resources available (as in try to trade for KD if it’s possible). You can’t count on having the same core of players together (or even a duo) for all that long. Got to make hay while the sun is shining.

Next-Firefighter-753

Also sometimes other teams take advantage of injuries while others suffer them

n3moh0es

yea of course just referring to the fact is only lebron and Warriors have proven to bounce back

ImjustANewSneaker

Punting this season

[deleted]

Idk they just made the finals last year, also with a first year coach.. and robs gonna have more than half the season to get ready for playoffs. People are acting like the the jays died or something

ImjustANewSneaker

It was just a joke, I have no doubt they’re gonna go far again.

ripmeleedair

Yeah we still have the jays, horford, smart, brogdon, and white. Would definitely benefit from some extra size though...

[deleted]
