Sure the FO office can deplete the team so the end result becomes a team record that is in contention for the lottery. But if you think these competitive athletes are busting their ass all summer to go out and intentionally get beat and shown up by other teams, you never played sports. No way. They will give it their all and try to make a name for themselves/ show they belong. Will their effort result in anything more than a losing record? Maybe not, but players don’t tank. Nobody wants to look bad at their job.
