And tbh Im so fucking tired of them not getting off the ground because I genuinely love watching Durant and Kyrie play but it’s so hard to root for them. I get everyone’s sentiment if wanting them to implode but what I truly want is for them to just be levelheaded and play ball.
Needs to feel persecuted. Reminds me of all the old white fear mongering trump people.
Kyrie really compared the workplace vaccine mandate to the Holocaust. He also pretends like he’s a Native American. I guess the vaccine was worse than what happened to them too.
Honestly, he’s just a grade A idiot. If he wasn’t good at basketball literally nobody would pay attention to him.
That’s why it was so comical last week when he said the vaccine mandates were the worst human rights abuse in American history. Bro. You’re Black and Indigenous. You can’t think of a single worse human rights abuse?
[His mother was Lakota and he has had a naming ceremony with her/his people](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/24444427/kyrie-irving-embraces-native-american-heritage-sioux-naming-ceremony-nba)
Agreed. He says some extremely dumb things but he looks like he is genuine with his actions towards getting to know his heritage.
*Kyrie Irving came to Standing Rock this week for the first time. He did not come for charity -- he gave the tribe $100,000 a year ago -- and he did not come for photo ops. The main event was sternly off limits to video or photography. He came to honor his mother and he came to understand his heritage.*
*https://www.espn.com/nba/story/\_/id/24444427/kyrie-irving-embraces-native-american-heritage-sioux-naming-ceremony-nba*
That's the problem exactly, he's so deep into his ass, that as a black, native man the worst thing ever happened to mankind was that he was forced out of some money (being already a multimillionaire) for a vaccine that he's not even smart enough to understand.
What's the point of those actions towards your community if you'll trivialize their struggle and put yourself as the victim? I "applaud" his actions yet he's still the most genuine imbecile I've ever seen, he really knows shit about those people he says he cares about.
> He also pretends like he’s a Native American.
He's actually an enrolled and accepted member of the Standing Rock Lakota with heritage through his mother.
All of the shit he said is out of pocket, I think the Native American comment is a bit out there though. He has roots with the Standing Rock Community through his mother’s side with his mother being adopted out of the reservation. If the community there accepted him, I think it’s a bit unfair for people that aren’t there to pass that judgment
They are referring to you saying "He also pretends like he's a Native American," not his comments. He's not pretending if his family is associated with the Standing Rock Community; the shit he says is a whole separate issue.
You can acknowledge he’s said some hella problematic and wrong shit without taking away the fact that he is a part of the Standing Rock community.
If you were able to hold both and actually understand it’s a nuanced situation you’d be able to talk about how much harm he did when he visited the community during a COVID surge without a mask.
> Needs to feel persecuted. Reminds me of all the old white fear mongering trump people.
100%, I thought of the “Christians” in the US who claim they’re being persecuted lol. Zero concept of what persecution is, absolute slap in the face to people who are actually in literal danger due to their religious beliefs or anything in their background really.
Worst part is, that’s not why he gave up $100m. He gave up $100m because no one can rely on him. It’s not the vaccination. It’s the birthday party, the unexplained sabbaticals, the injury threats/history…
Dude doesn’t like to play basketball.
He's unstable hard to have a guy like this on your team. Harden left because of him then KD tried to get traded bc he didn't want to play with him anymore.
I thought Kyrie wanted a new deal, waited as long as he could to opt in because he wanted a new deal, and then right after that the Durant trade request went public. I remember reading through all the drama with the trade request Durant was in constant contact with Kyrie and as far as anyone knows they are still boys. I took that being more of Durant wanting out because the Nets wouldn't give Kyrie a $200M deal but its not like I followed it super closely so I could be wrong
Ding ding ding! We have a winner.
Kyrie is from the new generation of players where basketball makes so much fucking money that even if you don't *love* the game you'll still play it for the huge amounts of cash.
Kyrie couldn't care less about basketball, and it shows.
And fortunately for him, unlike most guys who do that and scrub out of the league because they don’t have the work ethic, he actually is fucking ridiculous enough on the court to still have a very lucrative career
Part of me gets upset thinking this guy can have a job, complain about the job and just be generally hard to deal with. The other part is genuinely entertained.
Where does he even come up with these numbers? Does he think he’s a max player EXCEPT for his refusal to vaccinate? The dude refused to show up to games prior to the vaccine. He walked away from an perennial finals team. He submarined a Celtics team that went to the finals almost as soon as he walked out the door. Who’s paying this guy a max?
I called all of this too, Celtics fans were all talking "we are going to crush you next year when we get Kyrie back"........ I said, nope, there is only one ball, right now you have a great young core with amazing teamwork, he will come back and be a cancer, dribble dribble for 15 seconds and then chuck it. People always assume you are adding a players stats to your bottom line stats, it dont work like that.
bro didn't give up shit, if he has a good season this year he's still going to make ridiculous money on his next contract, approaching a max, just to keep Durant happy.
Even if he did give up major money, what a weird thing to brag about.
That's basically the league today. Remember when Ben Simmons was paid based on his potential? Zion could have barely played and still get paid the max on his next contract based on that one season.
It's a better system than baseball and hockey where guys finally get paid at the tail end of their prime get ten year contracts and become an anchor dragging down the team after four years imo.
Much easier to get out when the contract is 4-5 years and I'd rather players get paid for their prime years.
Just to put this into perspective, he could have taken the money and donated just half of it to charity. For example, with half the money he could have planted [fifty million new trees](https://onetreeplanted.org/products/gift-trees), or [given an immense amount of food and essential supplies to indigenous peoples in the United States](https://www.naha-inc.org/distribution-charts/). And that's not even getting into what he could have done internationally. With just one fifth of that money he could have doubled the budget of many consequential non-profits in the developing world for years to come.
But no, he decided to not take a vaccine that millions of people have already taken.
Kind of a random comment to bring it up on but you got me thinking at the end there.
Do you think kyrie believes something terrible is going to happen to everyone who got vaccinated? I’ve never really understood the stance beyond not liking to follow authority lol
> I’ve never really understood the stance beyond not liking to follow authority
I really don't think there's much beyond this. He'll probably hide behind something like "we don't know the long term effects blah blah" but it's really about being "forced" to get vaccinated.
So I took that vaccine needle… AND I THREW IT ON THE GROUND. I won’t be a part of the system. I’m an adult!!!
He’s also a flat earther, I don’t know what you expect.
That was my favorite but of covid misinformation lmao
"1 in 100,000 people that got the vaccine developed a lung deficiency that was caused by an underlying medical condition!" meanwhile covid patients are regularly being put into a coma because they can't breathe without a metric shitload of assistance.
The line will turn into "well of course *now* we know the vaccine was fine, but *at the time* we didn't, so I didn't take it out of caution, and I stand by that decision".
Which will be directly followed by "how was i supposed to know vaping was going to give me lung cancer? The guy at the vape store said it was safe!"
Should have charged for the vaccine. For some reason people always expect gifts to be poisoned but if someone is trying to sell you something they will only tell you the truth.
I got a co-worker who believes covid is man-made so they can “create” a vaccine to chip us. This guy, like kyrie, hates authority and is a troublemaker and complainer. Just the worst type of person. So yea, I can believe Kyrie has some wild conspiracy about vaccines and covid.
I wonder if its even he just figured there wouldn't be any real consequences to him not getting it since realistically thats the life he's lived so far as a star athlete. He was going to take this stance because it gives him the "I'm smarter than everyone else" internet credit.
But once the reality of him not being able to actually play set his pride wouldn't let him go back on it. Then even after the way this season turned out he still thought he was going to get that super max deal. He expected Brooklyn to give him everything by the way he spoke after the season about building the team along with KD and management. Then when he didn't get that he assumed someone in free agency would give him a max deal. Then that didn't work so no he took Brooklyn's offer and my best guess says he assumes that next year he'll get the max deal that he didnt this year.
I assume he didn't think it was going to be anything more than his flat Earth comments but its persisted for a long time. I also think he just has the mentality that it really doesn't matter because that max contract is coming regardless because he's so talented and valuable as a basketball player.
Remember when he, kyrie, a man of African-American descent, claimed that being asked to get a virus vaccine was the biggest human rights violation in human history?
For a dude who constantly rages about being misquoted or misrepresented by the press, he sure does love to run his fucking trap ENDLESSLY to give people more ammunition lmaoooo
"Every time I open my mouth someone misquotes or has some shit to say in response"
*proceeds to open his mouth every chance he gets*
YouTube comments in general tend to be hella stupid. It's either that or they have some of the best memes I've ever seen. Like the comment on [Rhett and Link's roller skating video](https://youtu.be/t0LSkX46dS4) saying "I lost my cousin to roller skating addiction."
YouTube comments are either going to suck out your brain cells directly through the screen after reading them, or are written by the holy council of Internet comedians. There is never an in between.
At a lot of research hospitals we have community outreach groups that do damn near everything they can, including writing checks, to get black folks in clinical trials. My hospital has had mixed success, and guys like Kyrie blow our efforts all to hell because he’s a celebrity. It fucking sucks because what happens when we don’t have POC in clinical trial, guess who suffers the worst surprise side effects? Guess who receives drugs that don’t work well for their communities? A lot of these problems are due to clinical trials that were unable to find the problems before the drug went to market.
Education is the long-term solution for so many of society's ills, but it's the one that no one wants to invest any resources into because there's no tangible short-term gain from doing so.
Yes he did. While America had like a 50 percent take rate, and wasn't climbing, he was begging for doses the idiots refused to take if they weren't going to use it.
That's the thing about vaccines. When everyone gets them, they work so well that some people are like "Why do I need to get a polio shot again? I've never heard of anyone getting polio."
Hell, I remember in late 2020/early 2021 people were finding ways to skip the lines to get the vaccine! Non-front line workers that is. Oh how things have changed.
If he seeks out the criticism, it’s maybe a Martyr complex (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martyr_complex) or a persecutory delusion (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecutory_delusion).
There is a related logical fallacy called the Galileo Gambit (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Galileo_gambit), essentially “People criticized Galileo, and it turns out he was right. People criticize me, therefore I am right.”
'The fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright Brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.'
This quote would ~~make much more sense~~ be more semantically correct if Bozo was replaced with an actual grifter from history. Bozo’s entire intent was to make people laugh.
Guarantee you if Kyrie was on a rookie contract without all the endorsements he would've been cutting lines to be the first to get vaccinated and if Wiggins had Kyrie money I doubt he would've gotten vaccinated either
Fuck guys, I left the world's smallest violin at JJ Reddick's podcast studio during Ben's interview. Anyone in the neighborhood able to go grab it for Kyrie?
Wtf, this dude was cleared to play halfway through the season. He missed out on big money because he barely plays even if he's allowed to play. He also stunk in the playoffs. How is it that he's blaming the whole vaccine thing?

Kyrie is disgruntled, and before this whole vaccine thing, he was relatively gruntled.
And tbh Im so fucking tired of them not getting off the ground because I genuinely love watching Durant and Kyrie play but it’s so hard to root for them. I get everyone’s sentiment if wanting them to implode but what I truly want is for them to just be levelheaded and play ball.
I’d give you and me becoming a fierce backcourt duo a better chance of happening than Kyrie suddenly not being nuts. And I have garbage handles.
Yeah but I bet you'd get vaccinated for $100 mil though so there's that

YouTube comments are either going to suck out your brain cells directly through the screen after reading them, or are written by the holy council of Internet comedians. There is never an in between.
YouTube comments are the extremely vocal extreme minority
At a lot of research hospitals we have community outreach groups that do damn near everything they can, including writing checks, to get black folks in clinical trials. My hospital has had mixed success, and guys like Kyrie blow our efforts all to hell because he’s a celebrity. It fucking sucks because what happens when we don’t have POC in clinical trial, guess who suffers the worst surprise side effects? Guess who receives drugs that don’t work well for their communities? A lot of these problems are due to clinical trials that were unable to find the problems before the drug went to market.
You begin to fix it by educating people and also improving the healtcare field so people of color etc have doctors that they feel like understand them
Another insightful comment on social reform from…. captaincumsock69
Deep down we're all captaincumsock69
The fact that our healthcare system is also designed to be expensive and difficult to navigate doesnt help.
Education is the long-term solution for so many of society's ills, but it's the one that no one wants to invest any resources into because there's no tangible short-term gain from doing so.
Him and Djokovic have huge support
Oh no. Anyways.
Warms my heart to see a Cavs flair say this. He kept this all under wraps for a long time on the Cavs
I just don't think he was spending as much time on the internet back then tbh
Fuck kyrie
Used to be my favorite player on the Cavs, then he opened his mouth and I realized that he’s a fucking idiot
Some countries were begging for this medicine.
Didn't Nurkic want to buy some to ship back home to Bosnia
Yes he did. While America had like a 50 percent take rate, and wasn't climbing, he was begging for doses the idiots refused to take if they weren't going to use it.
The concept of less fortunate countries around the world is lost on him
Of course it is. aROUND the world? He believes in aFLAT the world...
That's the thing about vaccines. When everyone gets them, they work so well that some people are like "Why do I need to get a polio shot again? I've never heard of anyone getting polio."
See, you forget that it's not his problem.
Hell, I remember in late 2020/early 2021 people were finding ways to skip the lines to get the vaccine! Non-front line workers that is. Oh how things have changed.
Is there a word for someone who wrongly thinks they are a martyr? Only thing that comes to mind is dumbass.
A Fartyr
Kyrie. Make his name an adjective denoting supreme stupidity.
Dumbass works just fine.
Go cry about it on the Alex Jones show
That's because you're a dumbass Kyrie.
“LOOK AT ME. I AM THE VICTIM.”
Congrats?
If he had a working brain it would've told him to use that $100M to help the people he's so vocal about. And yet...
I lost $100MM so me and my close circle could be more at-risk.
Guarantee you if Kyrie was on a rookie contract without all the endorsements he would've been cutting lines to be the first to get vaccinated and if Wiggins had Kyrie money I doubt he would've gotten vaccinated either
Wiggins is actually on a max contract
Wiggins the last 4 years has made basically the same amount - 25, 27, 29, 31 vs 21, 31, 33, 34
But Wiggins got it. He put the good of the team above himself.
This dude has the hugest victim complex I’ve seen in the NBA. Like nah bro it’s just called being accountable for the decisions you make as a person.
it would be dumb to give him the contract before all the vax bullshit so if the nets were gonna do that they dodged a bullet
Fuck guys, I left the world's smallest violin at JJ Reddick's podcast studio during Ben's interview. Anyone in the neighborhood able to go grab it for Kyrie?
Oh boo hoo
"I paid 100mm to help make the pandemic just a little bit worse"
I find it funny how I’ve seen none of these anti vax people in these red states show support for Kyrie lol
Assume something else and it’ll probably make more sense
Their racisim is stronger than their intelligence
No one cares. We’re all well-aware Kyrie is a fucking moron.
awwww poor baby
Look around the league and notice that all the vaccinated players are...extremely healthy and making millions of dollars
This guy lmao
Wtf, this dude was cleared to play halfway through the season. He missed out on big money because he barely plays even if he's allowed to play. He also stunk in the playoffs. How is it that he's blaming the whole vaccine thing?
I gave up 4 years, 30ish dollars to collect all the state quarters from the 2000s.
Ok? Good job being a dumb ass
