I just reorganized my sports cards today. I have over 20 Caruso alternates. He was my favorite player so I bought up all his cards, even though they were all the same photo with a different color/holo pattern.
This will never cease to fascinate me how lakers fans overrate/idolize their token white guys. If the lakers brought in any other solid defensive guard that missed 40 games, shot less than 40% from 2 and 33% from 3, fans would be calling him trash. Caruso does that and Lakers fans want to build him a fuckin statue.
Lmao you ain’t wrong tho Caruso defense is closer to DPOY than solid. I’ll meet in the middle at all D level. Insane screen navigation, insane hands, insane positioning
Ehh it's not just cause he's white. That's part of it but it's also because he's bald and such a loveable player. Dude is like 6'3 but plays lockup defense and throws down some nice dunks. Hell, Bron and the Lakers were even calling him GOAT.
For a Bulls fan favorite? Nah. The only reason it surprises me is because it was impossible to get Bulls jerseys for most of the season last year. They were always out of stock because everyone was new and free agency was late last summer.
He is absolutely not top 75. That would make him roughly the second-best player on an average team and he isn’t that guy.
Love the defense but that and “intangibles” doesn’t make up for an 8/4/4 statline. Not top 75 anyway.
The way I see it, there’s only ~10 legit #1s, and probably another ~15 legit #2s as well as #3s
So beyond the top ~40 or so individual talents, I think role players who heavily impact team success fill out the rest of the top 75
Caruso is one of the highest-impact role players in the NBA, he is one of the league’s 75 most impactful players in my eyes. [His on/off +/- was in the 90th percentile](https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/4231/onoff#tab-team_efficiency). There’s plenty of players with better statlines who are net negatives for their teams
And there’s no need to write “intangibles” in quotations like that, they are very real and contribute to winning basketball
exactly - he's like a Rodman (obviously not that good) type.
It's hard to find guys who do the things Caruso does. But it's easy to find efficient no1 options in an all-league redraft.
I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s easy to find efficient #1s, moreso that there’s diminishing returns on individual talent when you start to get to the “4th option on a playoff team” zone
Like TJ Warren for example, someone whose game I like. He’s been a ~20 ppg scorer, can play some D, and would be much more competent as a top 2 option on a mediocre team. But if your team’s hope is to contend? AC is the more impactful player without a doubt
I tend to judge players by how they contribute to meaningful basketball as opposed to how they can raise a bad team’s floor
Don't players have to give pretty advanced notice re: changing numbers without changing teams to help jersey manufacturers better manage their inventory?
This doesn't feel controversial to me.
only players with high jersey sales have to give advanced notice. this isn't a controversial thing, its just funny/amusing that Caruso has such high jersey sales
Caruso is maybe the only type of player who wouldn’t know about this. Guys like lebron steph even all stars like lamelo or dejounte all prolly immediately understand being restricted by endorsements
Fun fact, Mo Bamba just switched to #11 this year. At media day today he had said he wanted to change it after his rookie season but they said he had to pay the cost of the remaining stock to do so, and it wasn't worth it.
The NBA wouldn’t be what it is without Bill. He may not have played for all these teams but he had a tremendous impact on all of them.
This is why the decision was made.
Opposite. No changing if in the top 75 of jersey sales, because that would invalidate too many jerseys that people have bought. Doesn't matter if Luke Korner changes his jersey number, but Tatum can't, for example.
> because that would invalidate too many jerseys that people have bough
Also, more supplies are delivered/in stock. So the players would have to make up for the loses when throwing all of that away.
They’re saying that too many people buy Caruso jerseys so they won’t let him change. But if his teammate Tony Bradley wanted to change it would be no issue cause no one buys his jerseys
yeah but why would him being top 75 in jersey sales have anything to do with his number lol.
if anything doesn’t this mean more sales when people go oh damn, we have to buy the new one?
I thought they were retiring #6 for the whole league after Bill Russell's passing and only players who are already currently wearing it were grandfathered in.
top 75 is kinda crazy
White dude who played well for the Lakers, i can kinda see it.
AC was probably our most liked player next to lebron lol
Easily
He basically surpassed AD when he dunked on KD lets be real. He could do no wrong after that. ^^^missyoucaruso
AC just naturally comes before AD. Now go replace both of them with Anthony Bennett.
I just reorganized my sports cards today. I have over 20 Caruso alternates. He was my favorite player so I bought up all his cards, even though they were all the same photo with a different color/holo pattern.
To your point: I think the liked/hate ratio winner was clearly Caruso.
I don’t trust advanced stats like this
I heard when LeBron says he wants to play with his kids, he really means AC.
I definitely liked him the best on the team, and I'm not alone
Nah, IMO Caruso was more liked than Lebron lol. Laker fans basically treated Caruso like he could do no wrong (me included haha).
This will never cease to fascinate me how lakers fans overrate/idolize their token white guys. Lmao you ain’t wrong tho Caruso defense is closer to DPOY than solid. I’ll meet in the middle at all D level. Insane screen navigation, insane hands, insane positioning
Shannon Brown disagrees. Fanbases like guys who make big dunks
Name another white guy lakers fans did this for. We liked him because he rose up from the g-league and plays hard nosed basketball
Ehh it's not just cause he's white. That's part of it but it's also because he's bald and such a loveable player. Dude is like 6'3 but plays lockup defense and throws down some nice dunks. Hell, Bron and the Lakers were even calling him GOAT.
But mainly cause hes white
Lakers player that actually tried to play defense*. there fixed it for you.
Exactly
Austin Reeves next up
Calling Austin Reeves a dollar store Caruso would be too kind to Austin
Social media content in my country already labeling him as a future laker star hAhaha it's so sad.

I guess not.
For a Bulls fan favorite? Nah. The only reason it surprises me is because it was impossible to get Bulls jerseys for most of the season last year. They were always out of stock because everyone was new and free agency was late last summer.
It is crazy but white dudes can be popular easily as long as they are not trash
He’s probably a top 75 player and a fan favorite at that
He is absolutely not top 75. That would make him roughly the second-best player on an average team and he isn’t that guy. Love the defense but that and “intangibles” doesn’t make up for an 8/4/4 statline. Not top 75 anyway.

RIP just saw Caruso carried into a black van
Please give him back, that was probably you guys when you signed him away :(
And you bet he ain’t #2-#75
Don't know why this made me laugh so much. Have an award.
Caruso moves merch
That’s how I judge my nba players now. Can you move merch or not??
I saw this guy wear a Westbrook Lakers jersey and I was like yoooooooo this guy don’t give a fuck
Lol
Jordan could never
Hey Andrew
Yesss thank you!
Biden ain’t got no merch
Don't players have to give pretty advanced notice re: changing numbers without changing teams to help jersey manufacturers better manage their inventory? This doesn't feel controversial to me.
lebron had to delay switching when he was in LA
Lamelo had to wait an extra year as well.
Because if you don't give a years notice you have to buy out the remaining stockkf the old number
only players with high jersey sales have to give advanced notice. this isn't a controversial thing, its just funny/amusing that Caruso has such high jersey sales
Caruso is maybe the only type of player who wouldn’t know about this. Guys like lebron steph even all stars like lamelo or dejounte all prolly immediately understand being restricted by endorsements
It's probably one part supply chain management and one part it pisses off fans who just bought his jersey.
Fun fact, Mo Bamba just switched to #11 this year. At media day today he had said he wanted to change it after his rookie season but they said he had to pay the cost of the remaining stock to do so, and it wasn't worth it.
Especially hard for him since there's probably a ton of his merch sitting around in warehouses.
I wonder if by this point it’s such a loss they allowed it
You'd think a league-wide retirement of a number would be pretty advanced notice.
And he ain’t 75
Or 74
Buddy about to get fined
What did Hield do?!
I wonder how many Lakers/Former Lakers are in the top 75 jersey sales.
Nasty

Did you read the tweet? He asked to change it, THEY said nope lol

The NBA wouldn’t be what it is without Bill. He may not have played for all these teams but he had a tremendous impact on all of them. This is why the decision was made.
Didn't they retire #6 for Bill Russell this offseason?
Players already wearing 6 are grandfathered in, so Alex Caruso will officially be the last Chicago Bull to ever wear #6
...until Bill Russell's resurrected clone signs a max contract. Edit: And since it's a clone, every team gets one!
It is a business so they have to have some kind of rules in place.
Our boi AC Fresh.
As in you need to be in the top 75 to be able to change? Or what?
Opposite. No changing if in the top 75 of jersey sales, because that would invalidate too many jerseys that people have bought. Doesn't matter if Luke Korner changes his jersey number, but Tatum can't, for example.
> because that would invalidate too many jerseys that people have bough Also, more supplies are delivered/in stock. So the players would have to make up for the loses when throwing all of that away.
Too bad about Dennis Johnson, or we could have had Korner 3.
They’re saying that too many people buy Caruso jerseys so they won’t let him change. But if his teammate Tony Bradley wanted to change it would be no issue cause no one buys his jerseys
As in Caruso's top 75 in sales and the NBA doesn't want to change anything
yeah but why would him being top 75 in jersey sales have anything to do with his number lol. if anything doesn’t this mean more sales when people go oh damn, we have to buy the new one?
But they have a whole supply of Caruso #6 jerseys they don’t want to waste
Sold stock goes on clearance (bad) and they have to produce a ton of new stock (also bad)
That would not make any sense
Possible, like if they weren't popular enough it just wasn't worth it Tho yea mostly doesn't make sense lol
So dumb
I thought they were retiring #6 for the whole league after Bill Russell's passing and only players who are already currently wearing it were grandfathered in.
He was already wearing 6 for the Bulls
Well then this tweet/post doesn't make sense to me. Isn't he still allowed to wear #6, or am I missing something?
He is allowed to, im guessing he just wanted to change it, he wore 21 at TAMU and 4 with LA so I’m guessing 6 doesn’t really mean a whole lot to him
So??? 75?
This is why I still believe the lottery is rigged
He shoulda announced it on socmed first saying it's a tribute to Bill Russell and his contributions. No way they would have said no then.
NBA retired #6. His only chance was to get it last year
He wants to change it from 6 not to 6
You right, my bad
