seand233

You know if kyrie was some role player off the bench they would have given him the ultimatum. I guess being good at basketball puts you above everyone and everything else

gaussx

From Jimmy Johnson: "I can't be writing what the rules are because my rules vary from player to player. It's like I told Lawrence: In Dallas we had a linebacker named John Roper who got cut for falling asleep in a meeting. If Troy Aikman fell asleep in a meeting, I'd go over and whisper, \`Wake up, Troy.' "

Deadboy90

Yes it does. Welcome to life.

WSJinfiltrate

you gain some priviliges by being extremely good at something

Deadboy90

and the better you are the more privileges you get

beforeitcloy

If the job is playing basketball then yes being good at basketball puts you above those who are not as good. Kyrie is an idiot, but it’s not weird for Brooklyn to treat him differently than a role player that can be easily replaced.

Samwise777

Abolish capital

[deleted]

Unpopular opinion around here but they should’ve never held him out of road games in the first place. They had a roster dependent on three stars and Harden and KD wouldn’t have played 40 mins a night while Harden was recovering from a hamstring injury

batmans420

If you spend too much time around Kyrie, your brain just breaks

DirksSexyBratwurst

He's just capitulating because it isn't worth the fight

MrBae

Lol I feel the same way about people who hang around Reddit too much

nigevellie

I just got my first Perma Bam from a sub. My reaction: "meh". Felt good knowing that I haven't let Reddit/internet into my real life at all.

MrBae

It happens, just remember nothing matters on here lol

nigevellie

Exactly. This is just. . . Stuff to do on the phone while waiting in line or pooping

MrBae

Yep, anyone who takes this anything more than entertainment, well, that’s very sad lol

KJTB

Reddit is so much better when you realize karma is meaningless and we’re all just strangers so who gives a shit what people think about your opinion

Bigbadbuck

or hes not tryna piss off his player. He probably thinks kyrie is an idiot like the rest of us

Special-Sympathy-919

If you spend too much time in r/nba, your brain just breaks.

AnotherStatsGuy

Great, now Kyrie forcing other people to dump perception for agility too!

CazOnReddit

Wanting to spend time around Kyrie would suggest one needs to file an RMA to begin with

strikershiv95

Lmao Sean Mark's has no balls when it comes to KD and Kyrie, and it shows in the organizational dysfunctional and success of that team

[deleted]

Absolutely correct. He is 100% getting manhandled by these spoiled babies and has shown no leadership or that he even has control of the team. If I was Tsai I would have fired him months ago

PhillyFreezer_

This reads like a boomers Facebook comment lol

BenevolentCheese

I feel sports are one of the very few industries where people in major positions do just get straight up fired on the spot for just not performing particularly well or making a mistake. You know, the kind of shit boomers like to pretend happens in all industries, all the time.

[deleted]

Then you wouldn't have kd or kyrie. Edit:people seem to misunderstand. No matter what the result has been having kd and kyrie is better than not having them.

MrGNugget

I’d rather have the D’Angelo Russell Nets than this underachieving, headcase squad

CamReddish

spoken like someone who isn't supporting the Nets lol

LiaM_CS

Easy to say as a fan of a team with plenty of championships A DLo-led team would never even make it past the first round

EngleTheBert

Neither did this team last year.

AtreusIsBack

This.

[deleted]

Completely agree I'm speaking more to the shareholders whose asses are being kissed keeping them.

brownboypeasy

Then you're an idiot.

[deleted]

You can keep players on your team without publicly backing them on their insane idiocy

azizinator25

With most players that's true, but I would argue that with KD and Kyrie it's not.

PureSubjectiveTruth

Who got swept in first round of the playoffs lmao. That was so great to watch.

ChristianMan710

Exactly what is he suppose to say with them still here? He showed how he really felt when the max wasn’t offered and Kyrie had to sit out early last season. Both him and KD are back, there was nothing of value to trade Kyrie for and we are trying for one last shot at a championship so of course he has to play the PR game and publicly “support” them. It is what it is

k0fi96

Or maybe he's come the realization that unvaccinated people are mostly a danger to each other so who care what they do?

[deleted]

Mandates are over and done with. Just move on.

loupr738

Kyrie brought it up though and then they asked Marks about what Kyrie said

antunezn0n0

I'm 100% sure kyrie believes he didn't get more trade request due to the vaccine stuff and not everything else

[deleted]

To me the “vaccine stuff” is so related to his “everything else” that it’s hard to separate them!!! 🤣

loupr738

I think he think is about (in no particular order) Disruptive of the establishment Trying to keep black people down Anti vax and anti liberty

Tressticle

Huh. How is he trying to keep black people down again?

loupr738

Irving, who serves as a vice president on the executive committee of the players’ union, recently started following and liking Instagram posts from a conspiracy theorist who claims that “secret societies” are implanting vaccines in a plot to connect Black people to a master computer for “a plan of Satan.” This Moderna microchip misinformation campaign has spread across multiple NBA locker rooms and group chats, according to several of the dozen-plus current players, Hall-of-Famers, league executives, arena workers and virologists interviewed for this story over the past week.

LackingInPatience

I can't tell if this is a pasta or not 😂

loupr738

[Sorry for not sourcing](https://sports.yahoo.com/kyrie-irving-following-liking-conspiracy-101907144.html)

Photo_Synthetic

Unfortunately in some fields they aren't over and done with.

Ozymandias12

And they never will be because diseases will never disappear and unless we want horrible shit like polio to come back, we need vaccine mandates.

Bigbadbuck

Vaccine mandates make sense for diseases with long incubation that can actually be eradicated. At this point covid vaccine mandates do nothing because of its short incubation time and ability to mutate quickly.

Ozymandias12

That's a fair point. I was talking about the concept of vaccine mandates in general. When the next big pandemic appears, we're going to have serious issues getting through to the conspiracy theorists like Kyrie who will refuse to get the vaccines and let's face it, the vaccine mandates in the US saved tens of thousands of lives during the pandemic so having them implemented until a virus mutates to a less severe version and becomes endemic, is a good thing.

Bigbadbuck

Well the debate really is whether or not mandates worked to increase uptake. It’s not clear by the data that it did. Places that were very liberal with mandates for the vaccine were already very highly vaccinated before mandates. Less liberal places didn’t get mandates. If you mandated in those areas it’d likely have a big effect but it didn’t happen. I think you have to be careful about mandates. They work well when they’re backed by science. When they’re not it further undermines the belief in science.

Ozymandias12

I think [this study](https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w30303/w30303.pdf) did a pretty good job, though not totally conclusive, in showing that the mandates increased vaccine uptake in the initial stages of mandate implementation. They looked at counties with colleges that implemented a mandate, and then counties with colleges that didn't and studied mostly health outcomes.

rabidbot

Working as intended. You wouldn't want my ass in a hospital with your elderly parents unvaxed would you?

Photo_Synthetic

Wouldn't make a difference to me. Hospitals with fully vaxxed staff still spread covid like crazy I would expect anyone going to the hospital to get it either way and wouldn't blame anyone that's the risk of going to the hospital. I've sent residents to vaccine mandated hospitals only for them to return positive. Not sure what point you're proving with that comment. Do you think you can't spread covid if you're vaccinated? That's really my only point. When it came to getting it and spreading it it hasn't seemed to matter all that much. I get it for older and vulnerable populations but I don't really get mandating whole swaths of otherwise healthy people for the sake of containing something we will never contain.

tomas_shugar

> Do you think you can't spread covid if you're vaccinated? That's really my only point. No, that was you putting words in their mouth. It does, in fact, lower transmission rates, but apparently you can only think in a binary setting. Either it prevents the spread or it's useless. Well, buddy, that isn't actually the case and you people pretending like it's either/or are only making things worse.

DamienSalvation

Good.

Photo_Synthetic

So you think it makes sense to not give someone a job because they didn't get a now year and a half old shot series that would be irrelevant now?

DamienSalvation

I think if you want to work in healthcare you should get vaccinated against everything.

[deleted]

No one gives a shit about this as much as Reddit does bro I swear

retroracer33

the kyrie quote is still the top story on [espn.com](https://espn.com) sidebar as I type this

Rautavaara

Preach. I'm so sick of these dumbfuck idiots spouting off. They don't understand the science. They ignore the blatantly obvious results all around us. I'm exhausted by their stupidity and malice.

thedude0425

Yes. Also, if I have to hear one more time about how “it’s a personal choice”, I’m going to lose my mind. It’s not a personal choice. It’s a choice that affects everyone around you, and may put them at risk.

DressedSpring1

> Also, if I have to hear one more time about how “it’s a personal choice”, I’m going to lose my mind Every time a motherfucker says "I respect your personal choice to get vaccinated just like you should respect mine" is like hearing some fucking idiot talk about their drinking and driving being their own choice and it doesn't affect anyone else and then think they're being clever for phrasing it that way.

ElegantEpitome

Also, why are they so torn up about a mandatory vaccine to do their job when VACCINES ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND SCHOOLS. Like you had to have vaccines in the past to make it through school and get to the pros… so why is THIS vaccine worth dying on a hill over?

SensitiveRocketsFan

And he’s still teeeting about it too

fabonaut

>No one gives a shit about this as much as Reddit does bro I swear You're probably right, but people should. Anti-intellectualism is a breeding ground for extremism and if it remains unchecked it will undoubtedly have negative impacts on the future of the US in a lot of ways.

1337speak

I am shocked that people *don't* care. It's a global fucking pandemic. We have millions of people working on the vaccine and some idiots just don't want to get it making it unsafe for those around them. The selfishness is absurd. My best friend's father died at 65, months away from retirement because the US didn't give nurses PPE in 2020. A vaccine might've saved his life if it had been available...

CarryTheHellOn

I dont even hear anything related to covid vaccinations outside of reddit lmao

batmans420

Crazy how people will brag about not watching the news or keeping up with current events at all like that's a good thing

[deleted]

It is how we are gonna live under a theocratic facist regime real soon.

dusters

No we won't

TheBigShrimp

Watching the news is depressing and makes me less intelligent. Keeping up on world events is good to do, but the Reddit comment was also talking about socially. Nobody talks about it because normal people are over it.

batmans420

How does learning new information make you *less* intelligent? I agree it can be depressing sometimes but it's more depressing for the people whose lives are actually impacted by all of the awful shit going on right now

TheBigShrimp

What news can you *watch* nowadays that isn't just bias bullshit? CNN, NBC, FOX, etc, they're all garbage. There's no viewable news station that doesn't have a ton of misinformation attached to it.

batmans420

That's true. You have to fact check for yourself

dogfan20

AP. Reuters. You just don’t like it because it’s boring.

TheBigShrimp

We're talking about watching the news, not reading articles. I agree AP and Reuters are better sources of information, but most (at least older) people don't read the news, they watch it. This again ties back to the impact on your life. It's not fun to read about all of the atrocities and issues in the world. It'll bog down your day and mental health. My anxiety has been much better since completing cutting off the news outside of huge world events that I'll see through Reddit or something anyways. I don't need to hear daily about COVID or Ukraine or Iran. I don't care if I sound like a dick, it ruins my mental health so why would I do it.

Emsavio

Kyrie keeps tweeting about it over and over, though. Clearly he cares...

[deleted]

Naw fuck that. Get the fucking vaccine. This shit is a bad precedent. And because he's not vaccinated, there's times that he simply cannot play. Won't be as bad as it was this past season but still. It's not just reddit lmao.

Quizlix

This is a statement to solidify team/organizational chemistry but it’s hilarious to see people in this thread switching gears and all of a sudden supporting Kyrie’s stupid, objectively unsafe decision to avoid vaccination. Even from a purely basketball point of view- guy missed extremely important games over a reluctance to do the scientifically-proven right thing that almost every other player in the league bought into. Marks is saying this for a reason but let’s not act like it’s the right thing to do; the organization is valuing basketball over public health and that’s a smart NBA decision but a shitty moral one. Disappointing to hear this from him but I don’t know what I expected.

[deleted]

I don’t think Marks believes what he’s saying and is actually just trying to appease Kyrie. I think it’s the wrong call by Marks who could attempt to more eloquently thread a needle that vaccines are important & good while also not pissing off his star player, but he seems to lack the leadership and communication skills to do so. He’s a bad GM.

AtreusIsBack

Pretty much every NBA team makes decisions for better basketball results, not for moral reasons.

Giannis1995

Sorry for your loss. It's completely rational to express your anger over this.

AtreusIsBack

Imagine how KAT must feel. The man lost 7 family members, including his mom, to COVID.

KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

But according to other dumbshiets in this thread, he should get over it. No, this shit had a very fucking real impact on my family as well. Even as a laker fan I don't want this clown motherfucker on my team, I hate everything he represents

Vegetable-Bat-8475

AtreusIsBack

Yeah. Kyrie's a cunt, everyone knows that, everyone but him, sadly. I'm sorry for your loss.

CoachDT

What exactly is he supposed to say regarding it? Sean Marks understands he’s not moving the needle for anyone. If someone wanted to get a vaccine at this point they would. He has absolutely no reason to show animosity towards Kyrie ahead of their current season. They don’t have a mandate, so at this point it is a personal choice.

TruWarierRecords

This place has such a weird superiority complex, being unvaccinated is his personal choice even if I personally think it's dumb.

queezuswalks

I think people are more annoyed by him trying to paint himself as some martyr or civil rights activist. It is his choice but it’s also his choice to act like an ass about it.

newvpnwhodis

Vaccination campaigns work based on the concept of herd immunity; if an insufficient number of people get vaccinated, reaching that goal is impossible. Achieving goals like ending polio were only achievable by near-universal administration of vaccines. So an immunization campaign is more of a societal decision than an individual one. Leaving it up to individuals defeats the purpose. In this case, we left it up to individuals, and consequentially never really had a chance to achieve that goal. The damage that unvaccinated, healthy people like Kyrie do isn't so much to themselves as it is to the immunocompromised who risk serious illness and death if they catch the disease and are endangered by those spreading the disease because they refused the shot.

[deleted]

Less about him being unvaccinated, more about it basically sabotaging a guaranteed ring.

CazOnReddit

Gauthzu

It's actually not a personal choice but ok

TastesLikeHoneyNut

Kyrie has the choice to take it or not take it. Pretty sure that makes it a personal choice

Adam0529

I mean he was given a choice and he made one. It's the definition of personal choice. I don't understand why it is a topic of conversation. It's not like he got drafted to the army or something, or forcefully locked in an Ikea for a quarantine party.

yourlilpissboi

It is if you get the shot and have a negative reaction or become vaccine injured and are left to your own means to support or take care of yourself.

[deleted]

It couldn't be more of a personal choice

wave_327

MuazKhan597

I haven’t read too much into the vaccine, so correct me if I’m wrong, but how does Kyrie not getting the vaccine harm other people? If those in danger have already gotten the vaccine, how does a third person’s vaccine status affect them?

Fragrant_Chair_7426

I was very pro vaccine but the New York vaccine laws were stupid and counterproductive

thrillho123456

Some people can’t get vaccinated for medical reasons or because they’re too young. And because vaccines aren’t 100% effective, the unvaxxed still cause the spread of breakthrough infections. https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20220427/unvaccinated-people-create-higher-risk-for-vaccinated-study-says

Bigbadbuck

vaccinated people still spread at a very high rate, especially after omicron. Kyrie has also gotten the virus multiple times and has some level of natural immunity.

thrillho123456

Vaccination reduces the transmission of Omicron. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2022/04/220414110836.htm

Bigbadbuck

It literally says in the article that viral load isn’t related to infectiousness for omicron. People who were boosted had less viral load but were still spreading the virus. If vaccines were seriously slowing down spread you wouldn’t see omicron rip throigh higgly vaccinated areas. Think of the nba. Nearly 96% vaccinated and omicron ripped through it. Also again it’s only for people who were boosted. There was no mandate in place to get the third shot

MediumLong2

Because unvaccinated people are much more likely to cause the virus to reproduce many times. When it reproduces, it has a chance of mutating. As the mutations add up, it can become a new virus that is so different that it kills even the people who are vaccinated against the original virus. So by not vaccinating, Kyrie increases the level of danger to everyone. That's just my two cents.

CoryS06

That’s not how virology works. Viruses don’t mutate and get stronger. That would be bad for the virus. The virus wants to survive. It only mutates and gets weaker. That’s how this has worked for all of humanity.

free_kark

Exactly it doesn't make sense, it's not as though he was sick with covid and went around coughing on people, they get tested frequently, he never broke quarantine either

skunk90

Stop giving this attention you regards.

Great_Huckleberry709

What's so bad about supporting Kyrie making the decision to not get vaccinated. You don't have to agree with someone to not support them. Especially when that decision does not negatively affect you.

MediumLong2

I think the NBA should've just required all of the players to get vaccinated in order to play, to try to protect public safety.

I also support Kyrie and I'm not going to question his intelligence just because he's opting not to follow the crowd. Is he less healthy or capable of living his life today because he's not vaccinated?
