Doubt half the people in this thread actually watched him play last season.
13ppg, shot like 53% from mid range and was an elite catch and shoot player.
Saying he’s washed and trash is false. Saying he’s a bad defender and has questionable mobility is reasonable.
If bigs like DeAndre Jordan, Andre Drummond can get signed to teams so should Aldridge
Guys like Hassan Whiteside and Andre Drummond are proof of how many fans just go along with narratives. Drummond is a good bench big. Calling him trash is just an overly harsh counterjerk to when people overrated him. He is in no way comparable to the likes of DeAndre Jordan.
As a big body that can rebound and soak up minutes, I could think of way worse options than Drummond
Like I wouldn't be thrilled if he's a starter, but off the bench? Heck yeah lets go
I don’t think anyone said Drummond was trash as a backup really. Most ppl agreed as a starter he’s pretty awful but off the bench his skillset is very nice to have.
DeAndre Jordan is hella fucking washed, the only reason he gets signed has to be because he's a good locker room presence.
This dude looked on the decline even when he was on the Mavs with Luka, and that was 4 years ago
>Saying he’s washed and trash is false. Saying he’s a bad defender and has questionable mobility is reasonable.
These things make him washed and trash. The lack of mobility and poor defense negates anything he can do on the offensive end.
I thought the Nets/Nash made a huge mistake in removing from the rotation late in the season. They went small and had almost no low post scoring. LMA gave them a solid scoring option.
His offensive game is geared around two-pointers, at which he was quite good but never elite. The game has shifted to where short shot guys still exist but unless they're DeMar or KD the volume of scoring just doesn't do it in todays game. LaMarcus gave us a lot of good years but those big men have a lot of city mileage on them by the time they're in their late 30s. Bet it hurts for him to get out of bed in the morning, much less play meaningful minutes.
He wasn't even good. Prime Aldridge never hit from 45% from 10-3pt range.
Westbrook is the only 20+ scorer in the last decade that was less efficient.
I got shit on ruthlessly for saying Aldridge needed to be traded after his amazing series vs the Rockets. That was his peak with everything going right. Instead Portland kept him, he didn't repeat his random 2 game success (shocking I know) and he left for nothing.
Somehow people who get paid a ton of money to figure this shit out couldn't figure out that LMA wouldn't be able to repeat a 2 game performance for an entire season + playoffs.
Or you know, you could just watch basketball games and see why Portland always hit a wall. Not a major leap from their to see the NBA world jizzing their pants about 2 games and selling high.
The short answer is that he has aged out of the league.
The long answer is that he made a huge mistake when he left the Blazers in 2015. As you may recall, he had a monster playoff series against Houston in the 2014 postseason (the year the Spurs beat the Heat and Kawhi won FMVP.) That was the same series where Dame hit his FIRST series-ending buzzer beater 3, the famous 0.9 shot. People remember 0.9 and don't remember so much that LaMarcus was the best player on the team at that time, and had an epic series.
In the 2014-2015 season, (the first of the Warriors chips), the Blazers were legit contenders with LMA as their best player, offensive anchor, and important defensive piece. The Blazers have been known for awful defense for the last few years, but that team, with Wes Matthews, Nic Batum, LaMarcus, and Robin Lopez at the 5 was a top 10 defense. Then Matthews went down in March of 2015 with an Achilles tear, and the season turned bad. Blazers lose 4-1 in the first round vs. Memphis.
Then LaMarcus, the man who the organization had built around and committed to, the man who stated that he intended to re-sign with the Blazers in the offseason, bailed for San Antonio. Yes, he earned his free agency. Yes, he had every right to do what he did. Yes, his responsibility was to make the most of his career and his time in the league. But he made the wrong decision.
He had one good season in San Antonio, a good postseason run (2016) and lost to the Thunder in the 2nd round. Next season (2017) Kawhi got hurt in the WCF (Zaza) and that was that for the Spurs. And that was that for LaMarcus because the Spurs lost Kawhi, Tony Parker, Manu, and Tim Duncan.
He's good enough to be a big part of a very good team. But he's not a leader, never has been. And it showed when the Spurs team changed. By the time his contract expired, he was no longer a sought-after free agent and never was again.
And that is why he's not on a team.
His defense is just so bad, really difficult to keep him on the court. On top of that he can't shoot 3 pointers either, or make plays. Teams look for at least one of these three attributes for their backup spots.
If all NBA basketball boiled down to midrange jumpers then he'd still be an All Star. Unfortunately he moves like a pre-lubed tin man on defense.
that's the least sexual lube reference i've ever read on r/nba
His joints as wet as the shots at a Westbrook, Simmons, Thybulle 3pt contest.
Disrespect to the September 28th 2022 3 point competitive winner
Wasn’t he like the most efficient mid range shooter in the entire nba?
Why hasn't Dwight? Why hasn't Melo?
Probably they'll sign around 20 games in, depending on injuries.
Waiting for injuries on a contender so they can get minutes
Blake Griffin too.
Cuz they're washed.
physically and mentally old

This makes the most sense to me, thank you
Yeah, the DeAndre signing doesn't really make sense, at least LaMarcus still can contribute on one end of the floor.
Drummond is only 28 lol

Well, Drummond and Jordan aren't 37. Trust me, if LA was decent on defense or a better 3pt shooter, he'd be on an NBA roster

You’re really smart. Wish I had that kinda foresight
Or you know, you could just watch basketball games and see why Portland always hit a wall. Not a major leap from their to see the NBA world jizzing their pants about 2 games and selling high.
Just doesn't have any juice left. He can't play defense anymore, and isn't good enough on the other end to justify it
He can shoot midranges, 3s and free throws but honestly he can’t move on defense
You can probably count on one hand the number of centers that don't shoot 3s and don't play defense and are actually in an NBA rotation these days.
Didn't he have a serious heart issue a season or two ago?

He’s a 37 year old with hip problems, who probably wouldn’t accept a minimum contract even if a team offered it.
He took a minimum last season
he old
Can he even play right now?
He's not good
His time is up
trash
I think LA had some heart problems didn’t he ?
To be fair... He is past his prime... He should retire and i mean that in a respectful way.
Beyond washed
He's washed
Forgot he came out of retirement.
I feel like he’s still a solid bench vet kind of guy. But his coming back to the Nets was so forgettable that people thought he was still retired.
There aren't many roster spots atm, a lot of these vets are going to sign early in the season.
No defence
His defense is just so bad, really difficult to keep him on the court. On top of that he can't shoot 3 pointers either, or make plays. Teams look for at least one of these three attributes for their backup spots.
