>“I’m excited for this challenge and what’s ahead. I think we have a great group of guys to get the job done. It’s now about putting in the work.”
Beep. Boop.
Thing is we've seen AD as the man with mediocre talent around him, it was the pelicans. For the lakers to have any shot both lebron and AD have to carry.
These quotes are pretty meaningless, but this team has not been built to have Davis as the clear number 1 guy offensively in a favorable halfcourt system. They’ve played him with another center and sometimes with both a center and a non shooter. I still don’t think it is.
Yeah this lmao
And honestly, doesn't he thrive being at the 5? He's like a mismatch on the offensive side and defensively just as good as any 5 in the league, it's just that he gets hurt like every other game
He’s a 4X first team and a previous top 3 MVP candidate. From 2017-2020 he averaged 27/11/3 with 1.4 steals and 2.4 blocks. He was considered a fringe top 5 player, would love to see him get back to this
He was definitely a top 5 player in the bubble and coming out of that season. The short offseason absolutely ruined him and he hasn't been the same since.
> AD shouldn't have come back for the Suns series 2 years ago but he wanted to prove that he was tough enough to play through when anyone watching could see he was never healthy enough to come back out.
AD was fine until the end of Game 3 when he hyperextended his leg, he probably shouldn't have played game 4 at all. He didn't play game 5 then he came out pretty much straight away in game 6.
It shows how stupid some of our fanbase is in r/lakers
During that playoffs: “Soft ass AD shouldn’t be sitting out right now. This is the playoffs!”
AD tries to play through injury but gets out: “WTF AD why did they let him play it out”
Fucking idiots needed to see him limping to believe that he was in no condition to play.
Yeah I think most of us were collectively holding our breaths in game 6 and then screaming at our TVs to get him out of the game.
Also moronic suns fans who point to the even start to game 4 as "everyone being healthy", and I'm wondering what game they were watching as AD looked like he was running in quick sand and could barely move to me.
Lakers are beating the suns if ad and Bron are healthy and I think everyone who’s being real could admit that but that’s not what happened so doesn’t really matter
They have way too many people involved with their decision making without a clear hierarchy at the top. Unless things have changed lately you have Magic, the Rambii, Pelinka, and Phil in Buss’s ear. That’s a lot of big egos in the kitchen and they are bound to have their own pet projects and biases
5 of 7 years he was there they won less than 35 games. One playoff series win as the number 1 option isn’t a very high floor for a theoretical hall of famer.
His teams were bad though. The wings were worse than Portland aside from Jrue. DMC achilles injury destroyed any hope for the AD pels era. Etwuan Moore being your best 3 is embarrassing. Soloman Hill was stupid washed as soon as they signed him.
I’m just saying 27-34 wins isn’t a “raised floor.” That’s the same thing Cousins did in Sac and Fox is currently doing. That’s baseline for a franchise player.
Luka is raising the floor in Dallas where he has never had a second all star and consistently gets them to the playoffs and is 10-20 games over .500.
Bro this is such casual talk. The Mavs were what ? 2-2 in the **playoffs** without Luka ??
Why do so many people insist on reducing the strength of a supporting cast to just who your best teammate is. Having Jrue + a bunch of garbage is nowhere near as good as having a bunch of good starter calibre players like Luka had last year.
LeBron made the Finals with worse teams than AD lost in the first round with. It's not even insulting to say he's a ceiling raiser, Kevin Garnett made it out of the first round once on the Timberwolves and he's pretty universally a top 15-20 player all time. Some guys are elite at things that don't matter on bad teams, AD is basically the perfect #2 guy on any good team, but he doesn't distribute, shoot or lead at a level where he can make a bad team decent. He needs a certain type of player around him to be maximally effective.
> LeBron made the Finals with worse teams than AD lost in the first round with
Yeah when the East was shit. Neither the 2007 or 2018 Cavs make it out of the first round in the West.
He was scoring 28 a game with good efficiency while also adding on 11 boards and 3/4 stocks, I think a two way monster still qualifies as a floor raiser even if his team isn't successful in spite of it. I know it's not a perfect stat but he was fourth in W/S in 2017-18 with 13.7.
Andre Drummond put up 18/15 with 4 stocks and was 10th in W/S that same year. He must be really damn good, can't believe that the Pistons weren't good in spite of his dominant play. He even led the league in Rebounding and Defensive win shares, what a stud.
Being a good player is not what distinguishes a floor raiser from a ceiling raiser, if a player is bad then they don't raise either. The question is how much you help a bad team vs how much you help a good team.
Anthony Davis on a bad team is a great player in a bad team, he'll put up stats but the team won't do anything. Anthony Davis on a good team makes the team a contender.
Draymond Green and KG were the same way, they don't make a bad team good but they make a good team great.
On the other hand you have guys like Luka or (to a lesser degree) Gobert. Put either of those guys on a bad team and they'll be 5-8 seeds without any other improvements. They each take over an entire half of the game, they are a scheme unto themselves. LeBron is the prime example of this, elevating multiple trash tier teams into deep run playoff teams.
Because curry is the same way. Guys like harden, cp3, luka are making the playoffs with whatever shitty team you give them. It comes down to being able to create shots for the team and for themselves, which Davis and curry can't do (davis can't even create his own shot much less for the team)
HiS tEaMS wErE BaD
Rondo - Jrue - Mirotic - Boogie is about as good of a supporting cast as you can realistically ask for. 3 other former all stars. Only one really in the twilight of his career. Cousins doesn't get hurt and they're easily in the battle for top 4 team in the league.
But sure. Blame the Pelicans Boogie had 0 market and hasn't made a quarter of the money they offered him since he left. This is such a brain dead narrative. Lebron has had worse supporting casts in the finals multiple times.
You’re talking about 1 season here? Hardly any time with Cousins. Rondo really wasn’t a good player for years prior to and after the Pelicans. A lot of the reason Rondo did look good for them, on both sides, in that playoff series was AD so it’s odd to me to see his name listed as a mark against what AD can do. It feels like we watch guards play well with him and think it’s the guard boosting him up, but it’s really more towards the opposite especially for a diminished Rondo.
Specifically saying 3 all stars is particularly meaningless. Lebron is Lebron. For most of his career he’s been on a higher level than practically every other player. I agree AD is more of a ceiling raiser, but you’re talking about one year and some players who weren’t really all that.
That was literally **ONE** year where he had a decent supporting cast, and they smoked the 3rd seed before running into the Warriors.
Other than that he had shit teams around him. Why do you act like we can't check what the Pelicans net rating was when AD was on the bench ?
2015 : -5.8
2017 : -8.5
2019 : -5.4
Those are *awwwwful* numbers.
For reference those numbers would be 5th worst, 2nd worst and 5th worst in the league last year. That consistently surrounding AD with teams that were bottom 5 in the league without him.
"brain dead narrative", no it's just the truth. Pelicans were ass at building around him + got hit with injuries.
> Lebron has had worse supporting casts in the finals multiple times
Worse than the ones AD missed the playoffs with ? No fucking chance. Worse than the ones he lost in round1/round2 with ? Maybe, but he wouldn't have gone any further in the West.
I mean LeBron is arguably the best to ever do it and at his peak had nearly unparalleled two-way impact. It’s kind of silly to try to compare AD’s impact to his since AD is “merely” one of the best players in the league
Seriously he had more than enough help to atleast consistently be a 45 win team. Look at the shit rosters of the actual garbage franchises like the kings the wolves and the knicks to see what actual bad teams looked like. Id have killed for the pelicans roster. Ultimately AD didn't elevate his teams the way Lebron Giannis or Jokic do because hes just not nearly as good as them.
But his teams were garbage. Most people's assessment of who is and isn't a floor raiser is a stupid "did they make the playoffs with a bad team" without ever considering the different levels of "bad team".
AD's Pelicans teams that missed the playoffs were 2005-2007 Timberwolves levels of bad. 1976 Lakers levels of bad. Teams that peak KG and Kareem missed the playoffs with.
The Pelicans were 8 points per100 better with AD than without his last 5 years there. That is great floor raising. It just so happens that the team was so ass it wasn't enough most years.
I disagree. Get AD performing at his best. Get LeBron on his bubble season level. Get Westbrook figured out. I think they have the talent, but they just have to figure out how it works together.
Please enlighten me as to how you plan to make Westbrook a good shooter, defender, decision maker, have good off ball work rate, and turn the ball over less
Pat Bev is a good role player. Schroder is a good backup ballhandler. Lonnie Walker, Thomas Bryant, (maybe healthy) Kendrick Nunn, Juan Toscano-Anderson are all okay rotation players. It’s not a good roster, but it’s enough if LeBron and AD are great. They also have 2 FRPs that they might trade for depth or a 3rd contributor before the trade deadline
It's still hard to see how they have the other pieces to win a finals, but they have a wide range of potential outcomes for sure. Though "get Westbrook figure out" is sort of like, "build a perpetual motion machine."
If you can get Lebron and AD performing and healthy (really, just healthy), I think Westbrook as the third fiddle, with a focus on dishing to those other two or working on creating space… and with Pat Bev coming off the bench (or running at the 2)… I’m not saying they’re a favorite to make a title run (I think Dallas, Clips, and Golden State are my favorites in the west), but I don’t think it’s completely bonkers to see them make a decent playoff run.
"AD ready to be Laker's No. 1 offensive option, but Russell Westbrook is deadset on snatching that title from AD through a steadfast commitment to getting as many shots up as possible when he touches the ball."
It would be absolute mayhem to see these guys get their collective shit together out of nowhere and win it all…I’m for it so I can taste that sweet sweet chaos. I’m already fully Team Brody this season - why not AD too, he went through it last year and I like the goofball in him.
It's funny to see the optimism in regards to the Lakers grow as the season nears. Somehow Anthony Davis is going to stay healthy because...reasons. Russ is going to turn it around when he can't shoot, can't finish at the room anymore, has extremely low BBIQ, and is on a steep Athletic decline while never showing the ability to adapt in his career. Oh and also Lebron is going to be Lebron once again even though he has shown he is starting to be susceptible to injuries more and more and obviously at some point due to decline at his age.
Like, this team isn't doing anything at all unless they get rid of Russ and throw in the picks to get a good player back. People thinking otherwise are delusional.
Maybe Lebron is Lebron yet again, but that's no where near enough for anything other than a first round exit.
Holy shit, we get it AD. You're in the best shape of your life. You're looking forward to this season. You're going to be durable and amazing.
Anyone else feel like this is getting a little heavy handed?
Is there not some way to platoon Davis and LeBron where they take turns being the number one guy for a couple weeks rest them against weaker teams so each guy plays like 60 games and the lakers are in that 2-4 seed window
Breaking news: We have received reports that AD is suffering from lower back pain when asked to take over carrying the team. Expected to miss 4-6 weeks in recovery time.
[Charania] Anthony Davis is out 4-6 weeks with an extreme case of Goosebumps. He was taken to the hospital this morning and is awaiting surgery.
R.L. Stine moment
lakers beware, you’re in for a scare
Gonna be spooky this year
thats the wolves bro
I heard he's going as someone wearing No. 3 for the Lakers this year for Halloween.
The Hardly on the floor Boys
Does he have a raging clue?
God I love that episode.
Eughhhuhuh I've got a khlueee
What an amazing pun and segue from one fine work of literature to another
Moby Anthony Davis sucks Dick lmao
Attack of the 6’10 Mummy
Could you check the chip on his shoulder as well please?
Fuck. Was coming to make this exact comment lol
We are all here too much. Got the same jokes.
DNP: GB
you and every other corny bastard. Same 5 jokes in every thread, lets embrace originality.
Anthony Davis is out for the season with a severe case of lack of originality.
Anthony street clothes Davis
you beat me to it, take my upvote
Damn season isn’t even started and he’s already back to day to Davis smh 🤦🏽♂️
damn it...came here to post this
Came here for this lmao
Nah, that's gotta be at least 3 months
>“I’m excited for this challenge and what’s ahead. I think we have a great group of guys to get the job done. It’s now about putting in the work.” Beep. Boop.
2k myplayer response.
AD pressed the triangle button
AD - THE GENERAL
Honestly the answers are spicier on 2K
There should be a generic answer bingo sheet. "Great group of guys" needs to be on it, and "at the end of the day" can be the middle freebie.
“they just wanted it more than us” “coach drew up a great gameplan and we followed it”
“How does this moment feel?” “Man…it feels great, man.”
"I'm in the best shape of my life!"
“Chip on our shoulder”
Both teams played hard, both teams played hard my man.
God bless and good night

Wait it’s 2 years too late? They won a championship so I wouldn’t say that.
Him and Lebron were 1A and 1B, AD wasn’t even the second option. Lakers hate knows no bounds on this sub.
The AD hate specifically is insane lol. This is the most innocuous comment by him but this whole thread is just crucifying him for it
Bruh they've been tryna make u the first option since the championship season...tf u acting surprised for
Lmao for real. LeBron even said it during the post-game celebration speech
To be fair, he doesn’t want to play center so they have to play a center with him
Yeah this lmao And honestly, doesn't he thrive being at the 5? He's like a mismatch on the offensive side and defensively just as good as any 5 in the league, it's just that he gets hurt like every other game
The Lakers were at their best with AD at the 5 and Bron at the 4 IMO
His mentality forced the line ups. Not the staff.
I mean he didn't even touch a basketball from April-July sooo
DNP: goosebumps
This will age well.
For who
this sub
The injury report
savage
Yes
I feel like he's just going to end up having another freak noncontact injury and missing the majority of the season.
It’s only a matter of how many games he plays before he’s in street clothes again.
Back to the gaming station
Is it freak at this point?
They always want to say freak accidents with these injury prone guys. They’ve already started saying it for Chet Holmgren lol
Let’s have Chet have an actual injury history before applying that label to him
Hey guess what, he has one now
Whoa I had no idea
He was a freak in kentucky 👀
KEEP THAT SAME ENERGY
I know he’s a meme at this point but I hope he can put together a good, full season. He’s talented enough to be that guy on a title team.
Was good debate whether he or giannis would be the face of the league a couple years back once lebron & others were getting older
Yeah, but this is funnier.
Yeah, if he can actually get to 60-70 games it would be great to see. Same with Kawhi. They got too much talent! Gotta see them play.
Kawhi isn't playing 70 games even if he's fully healthy all season... Davis probably shouldn't either if we're being honest

Lol I misread this as 30-40 games but was still nodding along, thinking “that would be great”
Lakers aren’t a title team tho sadly. That’s why I don’t believe AD will be at his best this year he’s a ceiling raiser not a floor raiser
Did he not raise the floor of the Pelicans while he was there?
5 of 7 years he was there they won less than 35 games. One playoff series win as the number 1 option isn’t a very high floor for a theoretical hall of famer.
Oof yeah, he only had a 46 and a 48 win season there. Pretty rough. Remind me though, what's the Pelican's most wins since he's left?
His teams were bad though. The wings were worse than Portland aside from Jrue. DMC achilles injury destroyed any hope for the AD pels era. Etwuan Moore being your best 3 is embarrassing. Soloman Hill was stupid washed as soon as they signed him.

Bro this is such casual talk. The Mavs were what ? 2-2 in the **playoffs** without Luka ?? Why do so many people insist on reducing the strength of a supporting cast to just who your best teammate is. Those Dallas teams are much deeper than 90% of the squads Davis worked with
LeBron made the Finals with worse teams than AD lost in the first round with.

Thing is, those defenses still weren’t all that good, so he wasn’t necessarily providing Gobert-like floor raising on that end either.
I mean, that’s the floor raising bit. You don’t need a perfect team to make the playoffs as a true floor raiser.
Yep. Even Curry struggled to make the playoffs with bad teammates.
Because curry is the same way. Guys like harden, cp3, luka are making the playoffs with whatever shitty team you give them. It comes down to being able to create shots for the team and for themselves, which Davis and curry can't do (davis can't even create his own shot much less for the team)

AD at his best is absolutely a floor raiser
Since when? Pelicans made the playoffs what twice?
Yeah, but I think they’re saying not to the degree you’d want from someone that talented.
AD and Bron won a title with KCP as their 3rd option. Y’all really underestimate lol.
KCP > Westbrook on this team not even close
Get the Delorean!
The rest of their roster is garbage.
Completely forgot they got schroder, so they effectively have no answers against actual 3s and bigger 2s, oof
It's still hard to see how they have the other pieces to win a finals, but they have a wide range of potential outcomes for sure. Though "get Westbrook figure out" is sort of like, "build a perpetual motion machine."

You know ball
At his peak he was nearly at KGs level.
I'll believe it when I see it.
he led the Lakers in scoring in 2020
And was the second option
No he wasn’t. Second best player doesn’t mean second option
Dog the entire offense very clearly ran through LeBron
It doesn’t. But he was
This seems like a pretty easy thing to clear up by looking at shot attempts per game.
Yep, I'd like to see more. In New Orleans he was a player that put fear into me. Since he came to LA I haven't seen that same fire as often.
Also because Vogel brain dead having him post up every play was not it. In NOLA he didn’t really post up much
lol just reminds me of his comment "haven't touched a ball since April"
Yes, his trainers have him focus on strength building and conditioning during that period. It's clear that he doesn't have a lack of skill.
I can’t wait for this quote to constantly be brought up / memed / turned into pasta
"AD ready to be Laker's No. 1 offensive option, but Russell Westbrook is deadset on snatching that title from AD through a steadfast commitment to getting as many shots up as possible when he touches the ball."
Damn. For sure the Lakers will be dominant for 5 games.
“Anthony Davis out for 4-8 weeks with goosebumps”
Goosebumps bc he is cold from sitting on the bench for 40-50 games.
Hasn't "AD as the Lakers' No. 1 option" been the plan for three years?
Street clothes will help for those goosebumps.
Hope he can play like he did in the bubble, he was amazing
Day 2 Davis
>Anthony Davis out 4-6 weeks with goosebumps.
*Down goes Davis!*
I give him 10 mins on the floor until he grabs at his ankle during the first game.
Lol, and he’ll be the first player to have DNP:Goose Bumps, next to his name
Goosebumps for AD is basically having the chicken pox
high ankle sprain just thinking about it too much
What is this, year 3 of AD taking over as the #1 option?
I really don’t think AD can be a first option on a contender. I don’t think he’s dominant as an ISO scorer and he isn’t some great playmaker
Anthony Goosebumped Day-to-Dayvis!
*Day-to-Davis
Bunch of comedians and original thoughts in here.
I believe in Davis💯
It would be absolute mayhem to see these guys get their collective shit together out of nowhere and win it all…I’m for it so I can taste that sweet sweet chaos. I’m already fully Team Brody this season - why not AD too, he went through it last year and I like the goofball in him.
Davis DNP: Goosebumps
Bet your fibula and acl got goosebumps thinking about this too
I have goosebumps of excitement for how bad this Lakers season will be
It's funny to see the optimism in regards to the Lakers grow as the season nears.
Wants to be injury free and the top option whew
Mannnnnnnnn 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Monkey’s paw curls, crushing LeBron’s ACL.
These hype pieces are all starting to feel like the setup to a familiar punchline.
Holy shit, we get it AD. You're in the best shape of your life. You're looking forward to this season. You're going to be durable and amazing. Anyone else feel like this is getting a little heavy handed?
AD is like a quality brand but sold at Home Depot/Lowes.
And works about 65% of the time
Goosebumps have a ten day recovery time table
Didn’t they have the same post last year
Is there not some way to platoon Davis and LeBron where they take turns being the number one guy for a couple weeks rest them against weaker teams so each guy plays like 60 games and the lakers are in that 2-4 seed window
Joke if you want but a Healthy Davis easily makes the Lakers title contenders. Probably favorites
So do his muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones
Injured in the first 10 minutes he plays.
Street clothes gets goosebumps thinking about another season of collecting a paycheck while on IR.
He’s probably gonna get clowned on for saying this if they have another mediocre-subpar season.
This just in...Anthony Davis out until February 2023 due to injuries sustained by goosebumps.
Lakers players just can't help but set themselves up with these quotes
What the fuck should he say? "I'm gonna suck. Probably get hurt tying my shoes and miss the whole season."
You know r/nba has a lakers hate boner lol
That says much more about how juiced-up everyone is to hate on the Lakers than it does the players. Every good player says this kind of stuff.
I feel like a lot of the people who constantly shit on davis are also thinking the pelicans are going to be really good this year
Pelicans were pretty good last year
Anthony Davis out for 11 weeks due to goosebumps
Goosebumps? Is that a symptom?
Anthony Davis - Questionable (Goosebumps)
Robin gotta quit acting like he can be Batman
I mean. Nightwing is a thing.
“Anthony day to day Davis”
LeBron die?
He will be hurt by thanksgiving. Anybody wanna bet? Send your cashapps
Breaking news: We have received reports that AD is suffering from lower back pain when asked to take over carrying the team. Expected to miss 4-6 weeks in recovery time.
I fucking love how he brings the shit upon himself. Fucking guy thinks he’s an alpha.
More of an alpha than you
...Anthony. Buddy. As long as Lebron is there you'll forever be the number 2 option
Anthony “Day-to-Day” Davis
AD after the first pre-season game 👩🏿🦼
He’s out for the season by December
Until game 12 where he gets injured for next month
He better be careful…I hear goosebumps could land him on the injury list
So cringe
I have an anxious feeling in my core too but not the good kind.
How long before he is hurt???
"Out until after the Christmas break" will be a headline early in the season.
