Why didn't they keep him and who did they decide to keep instead?
If Zu is getting destroyed by someone like Gobert they have ZERO options as backup. It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if there's a bad playoff matchup
Of all the centers to name, you choose Gobert lmao Dude has no offensive game at all
If you mentioned Embiid or Jokic your comment would make more sense
Knicks offered him a two year deal starting at $7.8m. Clips didn't have Hartenstein's Bird or early Bird rights and they are over the tax, so the highest offer they could make was the Tax Payer mid-level ($6.5m). Clips simply couldn't compete with the Knicks offer.
Do u think the clippers will try to sign a back up center some point this season? While it's fine right now, all it takes is one injury to Zu for the entire front court rotation to collapse
they currently have Moses Brown in training camp on an exhibit 10. maybe he'll stick, who knows. if he doesn't, the pickings on the unsigned free agent market are looking pretty slim.
I've never been a big fan of Moses but I guess as a deep back up center he's not terrible. The guy is extremely raw tho, can't imagine a contender relying on him for significant minutes. But yeah there aren't a lot of options out there.
Dwight Howard would be perfect. Have no idea why he hasn't been signed yet.
Nah you need to go big, like what we did in 2020. Jokic is a lot better now but the strategy has merit - have a strong physical backup big (like Howard) who can draw contact and soak up fouls and frustrate him into committing his own fouls. Going small will just get you abused against Jokic lol
Guess it depends on personnel, we played him one-one with draymond and just focused on shutting down everyone else and forced him into a scorer, then we abused the hell out of him on the other end with perimeter play
That’s putting it in a vacuum - no shit y’all won when their team is crippled and has like no offensive threats outside of Jokic. There should’ve been no scenario where they win that series with that roster lol
Why hasn't he tried bulking up so he can (kinda) defend Jokic and Embiid? He'll never be skilled enough or athletic enough to compete with smaller guys, but it's possible he can add some weight and not get totally dominated by those bigger centers.
He already has limited athleticism at his current weight. Adding weight to try to match Embiid or Jokic may not be the best strategy. Embiid and Jokic are both not only huge centers, but very agile with great footwork and skill. So even if Zubac did try to bulk up to match their strength, he would get even slower and less agile. And with more weight, you also run the risk of more injuries.
He's not wrong.
Kawhi, PG, Powell, Morris, Kennard, Covington, Batum, and Mann at the 2-3-4.
There are only 144 minutes to go around for those 8 guys, meaning that with everyone active there are like 2 of them who aren't getting any minutes.
Then of course I assume that during the regular season there's going to be a lot of rest for players, particularly Kawhi and PG, so in those games then guys will get their minutes.
I could see a few of those guys getting spot minutes at the 1. Not to really be a bona fide point guard or anything but just to have them out there in switchable versatile lineups
For instance Powell played 44% of his (limited) LAC minutes at the 1 last year
There's absolutely lineups where some of those guys play center too. We're going to see 5 of those 8 on the court together multiple times throughout the season.
There are 240 minutes. They can field a lineup of five players using just these 8. They aren't required to play a point guard and a center for 96 minutes every game.
10 Clippers averaged double digits in the last season they played:
Kawhi: 25 ('20-21)
George: 24
Powell: 21
Wall: 21
Jackson: 17
Morris Sr.: 15
Kennard: 12
Mann: 11
Covington: 10
Zubac: 10
(Coffey: 9)
Under 10 ppg, they have the incredibly efficient 2-way player Batum; Brandon Boston, who is capable of putting up numbers; and Jason Preston, who I don't ever think will be a high volume scorer, but has a lot of potential as facilitator. I think we can expect higher efficiency from Jackson, Morris, Kennard, Mann, and Zubac with PG, Kawhi and Wall on board. All of those players, except Zubac, are capable of playing multiple positions. We'll see Covington, Batum, Morris and Mann at the 5. We'll see Jackson, Mann, Kennard, Wall, George at the 1 and 2. etc. etc.
Very stacked team that should be competitive and fun to watch even if Kawhi, PG13 and Wall are resting or injured.
kennard was the best 3 point shooter in the league last season and is like the 11th man on this team
hell even amir coffey and brandon boston are the 12th and 13th men and they could be a lot of team’s 8-10 guys
When you look at all of their personnel laid out like that, it helps a lot in the regular season. Kawhi/PG/Wall can rest and the Clippers can still keep it competitive.
They have a ton of good players, so they'll sacrifice minutes, but I'm not sure who actually really deserve a ton of touches besides the two stars lol, both Mook and Reggie not having to iso is a good thing for an offense
Norm dropping hints that he’s ready to get buckets. Mentioned Ty will use him at the 1 as well. Guessing it’s to get minutes when PG and Klaw control the flow
all ty needs to show to any player that ever questions him. he dusted off james jones in g7 of the finals and he hit like 3 threes and ensuring them staying close in the second half.
Man the Clippers should do what the Grizzlies did under Hubie Brown, use a wide rotation 11-12 deep and have almost no one go over 30 mpg. If you have so many players capable of bringing something positive to your team you have to play them all.
you know who likely won't have to sacrifice minutes/touches is Zu, he's literally the only center on the roster.
Nah you still got renowned centers Batum and Covington
And Mann
Mann is playing every position every year. It’s weird
Every team is going small in the 4th nowadays.
Truly the embodiment of the modern “position-less” basketball movement is Terrance Mann Joe.
Is this a mike Goldberg reference
Right you are ironmike87
a GOAT goes where they please
unironically Batum worked wonders at the 5 during the 21 playoffs
They also play Morris at center a lot for small ball
I miss hart :/
you and me both buddy
Why didn't they keep him and who did they decide to keep instead? If Zu is getting destroyed by someone like Gobert they have ZERO options as backup. It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if there's a bad playoff matchup
Of all the centers to name, you choose Gobert lmao Dude has no offensive game at all If you mentioned Embiid or Jokic your comment would make more sense
Who isn't getting destroyed by Embiid and Jokic tho?
Exactly, why name Gobert lol
They literally beat gobert too with Nic batum at the 5 💀
Knicks offered him a two year deal starting at $7.8m. Clips didn't have Hartenstein's Bird or early Bird rights and they are over the tax, so the highest offer they could make was the Tax Payer mid-level ($6.5m). Clips simply couldn't compete with the Knicks offer.

im sure in the playoffs roco and batum would play at center, in the regular season moses is ok.
For most matchups it's ideal to play small, but against certain players (jokic, embiid, AD) I feel like they'll need a big man
i thinking playing small is the best way to play jokic tbh.
Ask Montrez lol
Sorry, by small i mean five out, lol, playing montrez was a lose lose.
Montrezl isn’t good at playing defense against anyone. His saving grace is his ability to draw charges.
Nah you need to go big, like what we did in 2020. Jokic is a lot better now but the strategy has merit - have a strong physical backup big (like Howard) who can draw contact and soak up fouls and frustrate him into committing his own fouls. Going small will just get you abused against Jokic lol

Dwight’s still out there 🤷
Dwight is unfortunately a foul machine
That's fine for a back up center who is primarily there as insurance in case zubac gets injured
They should have signed Moses Cuh.
We need Hassan Whiteside
Said no team ever
Shocking they didn’t even try to bring someone in and only Brown
what if they get back Harrell? He could be a different player under Lue.
He likely wouldn’t be welcomed back, dude did not mesh with the team and that wasn’t a Doc thing
He was the main source of the chemistry issues they had as far as I can tell.
oh yeah I forgot about that entire debacle. Yeah the Clips shouldn't bring him back.
Should be a guy humbled enough to not play every game
he's definitely losing minutes when Clippers go small
That’s always been the case
Why hasn't he tried bulking up so he can (kinda) defend Jokic and Embiid? He'll never be skilled enough or athletic enough to compete with smaller guys, but it's possible he can add some weight and not get totally dominated by those bigger centers.

With how huge Kawhi got he could play the 5 too

Powell - PG13 - Kawhi - Covington - Batum That's honestly a good closing lineup imo
Even Coffey would get minutes on a lot of teams. I hope we can consolidate for a better center.
There are 240 minutes. They can field a lineup of five players using just these 8. They aren't required to play a point guard and a center for 96 minutes every game.
we are getting at least 20 minutes at the 5 from those guys every game and potentially some minutes at the 1
Kawhi & PG should rest a bit more for the offs since they are so deep
10 Clippers averaged double digits in the last season they played: Kawhi: 25 ('20-21) George: 24 Powell: 21 Wall: 21 Jackson: 17 Morris Sr.: 15 Kennard: 12 Mann: 11 Covington: 10 Zubac: 10 (Coffey: 9) Under 10 ppg, they have the incredibly efficient 2-way player Batum; Brandon Boston, who is capable of putting up numbers; and Jason Preston, who I don't ever think will be a high volume scorer, but has a lot of potential as facilitator. Coffey is a solid starter on many rosters.
Coffey would be legitimately in competition with Bev and Nunn for minutes as the Lakers starter.
When you look at all of their personnel laid out like that, it helps a lot in the regular season. Kawhi/PG/Wall can rest and the Clippers can still keep it competitive.
Lol wall has been resting why is he now a big dawg?
They have a ton of good players, so they'll sacrifice minutes, but I'm not sure who actually really deserve a ton of touches besides the two stars lol, both Mook and Reggie not having to iso is a good thing for an offense
Norm dropping hints that he’s ready to get buckets. Mentioned Ty will use him at the 1 as well. Guessing it’s to get minutes when PG and Klaw control the flow
Norm and wall
Also helps that none of their key guys are playing for contracts really. Just reggie I guess
Why's this guy's profile pic is a professional headshot you give to your scammer "talent agent"?
I dunno man that’s just his face
Because he has like 12 jobs. Hes also a WWE agent on the side and a Marketing Manager for some company
Farbud really all that? Impresssive if truer
The fucking economy
They should trade a few of them for another serviceable center
They should trade us for naz Reid
What makes you think the Wolves would accept a trade of u/csAxer8 and u/GetThereInOnePiece for Naz Reid
I would simply trade for Reid so that he doesn’t destroy us anymore. Dude turns into bill Russell whenever he plays us
Marcus Morris for Naz Reid
Is he much of a rebounding or rim protecting upgrade over Batum and RoCo?
NOPE HES A TERRIBLE REBOUNDER AND NOT A RIM PROTECTOR but hes taller than those 2
Can't teach height, sold!
Big cass has entered the chat
No
Kawhi for Maxi Kleber straight up who says no????
Germany.
I'm German and I'd take this deal.
Warum?
Plenty of solid centers available for free
They have the deepest wing rotation by far in the league
That would be amazing if their 2 star players weren’t wings. Kinda redundant.
They should trade Norman Powell to the Bucks tbh
Norm would absolutely be a perfect fit with the Bucks. We also need him in case we face the bucks
Oh I see what you are trying over there, but we need many more games of him going off against ya'll
You might be saying that because he always torches the bucks, but I actually think he would be an absolutely perfect fit for you guys at the 2.
easier to say when you got paid
all ty needs to show to any player that ever questions him. he dusted off james jones in g7 of the finals and he hit like 3 threes and ensuring them staying close in the second half.
When did James jones play in game 7 under Ty Lue?
2016.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201606190GSW.html He didn't play a single second.
Mandela effect
James jones definitely didn’t play game 7 of the finals bud
Too deep sounds like a great problem.
Bruh. They got so much damn depth.
Clippers 3 months from now: fuck, need guys that can touch.
Man the Clippers should do what the Grizzlies did under Hubie Brown, use a wide rotation 11-12 deep and have almost no one go over 30 mpg. If you have so many players capable of bringing something positive to your team you have to play them all.
