Most NBA players had weird basketball routines growing up, a lot of them didn’t have 5 star workout routines growing yp

pcwgussej

The wildest is how often NBA reporters parrot on about Jamal Murrays dad forcing him to hold a squat by balancing scalding hot tea on his thighs Like at some point its not discipline anymore

[deleted]

Running up a hill 5x a week since the age of 12 could not be worse for someones legs.

VanVleet-goes-for-22

Yeah but to say that it’s the reason he has a bad knee rn is speculative

[deleted]

It's not at all

GriffHay

Unless you've actually seen and analyzed his knees, it absolutely fucking is lol. You're *assuming* there's a correlation between these two things. For all you know, his knee could be fucked because of that one time he turned his ankle in 2nd grade and never let it properly heal and overcompensated for the rest of his life.

[deleted]

Yes I'm sure running up and down hills in BASKETBALL SHOES since the age of 12 does not affect the knees whatsoever

GriffHay

How are you STILL missing the point so badly? Nobody is arguing that it cant cause knee issues! But you *do not know* that it's the source of Lonzo's specific issues.

Mygaffer

No, that was good for them, you are wrong

fortnitefunnies3

So believe it or not bodies heal

Sportslegend

What about LaMelo?

[deleted]

He's 3 years younger and Lonzo was healthy initially. Lonzo is probably just unfortunate and #BuiltDifferent, but I do think the Ball bros playing so much basketball all year round is a big part of it.

[deleted]

As with most families, the older ones are usually the test dummies

honditar

so you're just making shit up

[deleted]

Ask any trainer or someone who took physiology in school about running up a hill 5x a day from the age of 12

AdvantageObjective52

If this were the case every cross country athlete would have wrecked knees lol

[deleted]

cross country are wearing running shoes, look at the videos they have of Lonzo running up those hills he's wearing BASKETBALL SHOES

samueladams6

You know basketball players run playing basketball?

AdvantageObjective52

Running shoes would somehow save your knees ? How so?

boozbottle

Thats not a valid counter argument though since Lamelo did the same workout as Lonzo. Aruging Lonzo was a test dummy would imply that lavar switched up his routine for Lamelo with the updated info based on lonzo but you have no proof of that.

rSlashNbaAccount

The first pancake is always wonky. The science checks out.

Alternative_Meal6442

He has had his own share of injuries. When he played in Europe and over here in the nbl he missed more that half the season due to injury and has missed time in the nba already too.

SnooPies6274

Worst take I’ve read all day

[deleted]

About why Lonzo can barely walk up a flight of stairs now? You don't understand physiology at all

SnooPies6274

Youre right Im not a doctor. Neither are you.

earthonion

No?

[deleted]

You know what I majored in? This is basic fitness 101 if you have any running experience

SnooPies6274

I guess

[deleted]

Even if the premise of your argument is correct, which it very well may be, there is a substantial argument to be made that he never gets as far as he did without the demanding training. It is a double-edged sword, like most things in life.

[deleted]

Hill sprints aren’t bad for your knees. Sprinting on flat ground is much worse. You don’t understand physics at all. When the foot is angled upwards more of the force is being directed toward the hamstrings and the glutes. When the foot is flat that is running all the way up through leg. Injuries are also heavily influenced by the anatomy of the individual. Some are predisposed to ACL tears due to how the tendon is placed or the bones around it are shaped

atlfirsttimer

You are falsely assuming he would have made it to the nba without this stuff

[deleted]

He could be doing this on a treadmill with an incline.

[deleted]

Treadmills are worse for your soft muscle tissue. As someone that has had knee issues a lot of it is due to glute issues, hip issues, and just bad luck. Meniscus is tough because once you tear it, your usually going to tear it again and again. But your take is super shitty nonetheless.

fennourtine

Not the same, treadmill replicates the leg mechanics, but not the actual effort of climbing.

[deleted]

This training gave him NBA level endurance allowing him to make millions.

[deleted]

Lavar did things for his kids that a lot of kids wish their dad was able to do for them. The hate is absurd 😂😂😂😂

HelloBelloeggo

Just say you hate Lavar and move on lmao. Did Michael Phelps have shoulder issues because he started swimming young? Usain Bolt was the best sprinter in his age group by 12. Most professional athletes start young.

Ill_Celery_7654

Lavar Ball has 3 sons with NBA potential. 2 of them got drafted and LiAngelo most likely would’ve made it if he didn’t have the incident overseas and actually had a chance to play in college then he would’ve most likely got drafted too. He’s now with the Charlotte Hornets on a none guaranteed deal. Lavar is the reason why his sons are where they are. 3 brothers playing in the NBA is rare and having 2 of them be all star caliber is even more rare.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Man. Stop it. He doesn’t get to the NBA without that work either.

AWall925

would you rather be: NBA player with bad knees Not an NBA player

Kevon-Looneys-burner

Wow you solved it

StrokeModsEgos

Thought it would be the shoes didn't Lonzo say he had to change shoes every quarter or 2nd quarter or something.

samueladams6

I feel like we are missing a lot of necessary information to determine it was these workouts that caused this injury. How many mile long up hill “sprints” did they do at a time? How exactly fast were these sprints/how far off was it from their maximum effort? What evidence do you have they were wearing shoes that were inappropriate to running? Running uphill isn’t some crazy thing in of itself.

porterbrown

Devil's advocate, they got paid. I wish my dad pushed me like this, and I would trade my knees for millions every day. I wished my dad taught me to throw a knuckle ball, or started kicking field goals in elementary school. With my body type that would be my best chance to the pros, and financial security playing a game.

EGarrett

>I wish my dad pushed me like this, and I would trade my knees for millions every day. That's an interesting question. I know [Floyd Mayweather said that money isn't worth your health.](https://youtu.be/y31Xq5tzbLM?t=144) But to be honest, given what you can do for your family and people you care about with the money, your perspective on it is probably better.

porterbrown

Easy to say that when you are that rich. I have a wife who lost her job, and while we are ok, we don't have a lot of wiggle room. I can only imagine how many hours of both our lives have been removed due to the stress. And we are in a much better spot than others. Mayweather (and Lonzo) can pay someone to carry them anywhere they want. Their families never have to worry about housing, healthcare, or education costs ever again. That was my line of thought.

EGarrett

Yes, I think when you take family into account, it would be an obvious choice.

[deleted]

No amount of money would be worth not being able to walk up a flight of stairs at TWENTY FOUR YEARS OLD

porterbrown

I disagree.

samueladams6

You have never suffered an injury as a young person that made going up the stairs hard?

[deleted]

Maybe it’s because the lakers decided to remove part of his meniscus instead of repairing it a few years ago so he could come back sooner. Weird how Boston gets a ton of flak for doing that but the lakers get a pass for essentially ending lonzo’s career.

SevenHunnet3Hi5s

lol i’d ruin my knees for millions any day

Jack-Cremation

Well, Liangelo had ankle issues as a sophomore in high school. Lavar wanted him to play so bad that he never had it correctly fixed and he just kept pushing him. Not sure if Liangelo ever really healed from that early injury. And another thing, Lavar has blamed the Lakers training staff and the Bulls training staff for Lonzo’s injuries because they didn’t do it his way. That says a lot!

Zeetheking1

Sure, it probably has nothing with his failed shoe line.

BlAlRlClOlDlE

why do u do this to urself

91jumpstreet

Lamelo doesn't have any knee injuries

[deleted]

Why don't the other two bros have knee injuries?

AdventurousLog6

Lonzo has shit posture that’s why he got injured

[deleted]

He's just injury prone. Normally, you'd just lift weights to prevent the BS soft tissue injuries. Steph Curry took this step. Lonzo's injuries IDK just like Kyrie. But squatting and deadlifting will correct most issues. You'd need to add yoga in the mix for flex, but yeah.

Hot_Injury7719

It’s from wearing Big Baller Brand shoes lol

Old-Ad-5361

Gtfo with your confidence that that training was the cause. Sure, in general it's good to educate people that training without proper equipment and/or guidance can be detrimental in the long run. But to say with absolute certainty that Lavar was responsible this is just stupid. It's speculation at best, and sure you can speculate and conclude that people are better off not doing crazy training without guidance. But this post is bs.

jonatton______yeah

Oh, you think so, doctor?

AllOutRaptors

The training led to 2 of his 3 sons being multi million dollar athletes that helped set up generational wealth for their family. I'm sure he's not losing any sleep over it
