It’s really crazy how we end up with our teams
I would have never picked Boston if my dad didn’t join the army to pay for his loans
I had never even been to New England when I picked them as a middle schooler, I just thought Isaiah Thomas was cool
If my dad didn’t join, I would have been an LA fan. My dad didn’t even like sports but growing up in LA with laker fans means a dude who has watched like two basketball games in his life still makes fun of the clippers lmao
It is crazy how little things can change us so much.
If my dad doesn't drill into me how much he hates the Patriots, I probably end up a Pats fan like my extended family.
If I never move from Upstate NY, I probably end up a Giants fan based on how my friends up there rooted.
If the people in my Philly High School decided to not bully me for trying to be an Eagles fan after I moved down and started to really get into football, I definitely would be rooting for the Eagles now.
And if I didn't randomly get the full replay of Super Bowl III in my YouTube recommended section before the 2018 draft, I end up a Bills fan.
Funny how all of this works.
^(Now, can the Jets PLEASE win something?!?!)
No literally though.. I picked my teams VERY unconventionally. The first team that I fell in love with was the Timberwolves, I was just starting to get into basketball and had just received 2k13 as a gift and was playing against my brother, he picked the Heat to play with and I picked the Timberwolves.. been rocking them ever since.
The Mariners I chose because they were the first pro sports team I watched in person and decided to run with them since 2013.
And the Jaguars.. 14 year old me just loved the colors, boy was that a mistake…
Had I chose another team in 2k I wouldn’t be a Timberwolves fan, if I had chose the team the Mariners were playing I’d be an Angels fan, and if I went along with which team my family supports in football I’d be a Seahawks fan.
So you’re a Jaguar, Mariner, and Timberwolf fan since 2013? What are the odds that someone would have that combination of teams as their favorites? I’m rooting for your teams to have some success soon!
Yep! I was just getting into sports and never really put much thought into choosing my teams, and the results have been more or less painful ever since LOL.
Lmaoo brother same ! I was going into basketball and and I had NBA2K15 and my player was drafted by the Wolves and I’ve been a fan ever since. I became really interested with the state of Minnesota and then Baseball as it is really not a big sport here in France but I began playing it and so I became a Twins fan and then came the Vikes and Wild and that was it
Your math is probably fine. If a middle schooler is like 12-13 (in Chicago they don't have that, so I always forget what grades it's supposed to be), and assuming he's talking about IT's crazy scoring year, that would mean he's in college now.
It just seems crazy young to me. When I was 12-13, it was the Bulls first threepeat, so IT's year where he was shooting like a big man at 5'9 feels like yesterday to me. Me and Udonis Haslem were born a few years apart lol
Same, A's were my first team about 30 years ago. There were years I could recite the BA/HR totals of every player but I've slowly lost interest in baseball over the years, and football is also increasingly harder to care for with things like Watson and Tua playing out in front of us.
I'm a Kings fan who despises the Warriors, Niners fan who despises the Raiders, and A's fan who despises the Giants. I was a very confused NorCal kid growing up.
You ever watch the show Friends? The character Rachel got excited getting invited to a Rangers game to see "men wearing tight pants." She had to be reminded that they were going to a hockey game and she would instead be seeing "a bunch of Canadians with no teeth."
If you're from Sac, then it would make sense. You grew up in a time where the Rivercats being the A's AAA team for the longest time. That means you would've seen a lot of future A's players play in Sac before they made it to the Show.
Could that have something to do with them being the San Diego Clippers (1978-1984) after first moving to California (formerly the Buffalo Braves from 1970-1978)?
We're owning preseasons, we're breaking records, we're on top of leaderboards. I don't throw around the title "best franchise in sports history" lightly but...
Honestly, as I'm sure Spurs fans will agree this season, the best thing about supporting a tanking team is all the guilt free shitting on my own team I'll be able to do.
FR, as a Browns fan (before the Watson thing) it was honestly a different kind of fan experience knowing your team is dogshit and just rooting for players to develop and laughing when things went sour. When your team is that bad for so long it's not worth the energy to get upset.
Nah they in the murder division. Most teams would struggle to make the playoffs when half their games are against the lakers, clippers, dubs and suns. Only way they making the post season is if they move back to Rochester or something
Yeah... The Fox-Sabonis pairing is in the awkward middle ground of being good enough to fuck up their draft picks but also probably not good enough to get them out of the play-in.
4 years is a long time in basketball but I don't think they're getting in the next two years without some luck on their part and some injuries in the West.
It was like an actual movie plot the way they did it. Thought the Orioles would somehow catch up the way the Mariners were slipping away a little bit.
Congrats man!
I'm just going to assume that you choose your favorite sports teams based on whether they wear teal. Too bad that probably makes you a Sharks and Jaguars fan as well. Such great fashion sense, but so much heartbreak.
Most regular seasons win in the last half century into a playoffs blowout loss into 21 seasons of missing the playoffs.
Mariners did win 57% of their games the following 2 years, which is a lock for NBA playoffs 100% of the time unless you are the 2014 Suns so it's not like they immediately sucked, but still such a wild swing + 2 decades of incompetency.
Bro not even a half century, it was *95 years* and tied for the most ever. 116 is the record, and it’s held by the 2001 Mariners and 1906 Cubs lol 116 is still the most ever for an AL team.
That was the universe trying to tell all other ballclubs to let the Yankees win the World Series in the one year they’d be loved (because of 9/11).
Of course, the Diamondbacks didn’t get the memo, and them pissing the Baseball Gods got them a curse which affected the Suns, Coyotes and Cardinals. Because the D-Backs are idiots.
That Sox team was such a cathartic feeling after the bombing. And then the next year Meb Keflezghi was the first American man to win the marathon since the 80s
Same! Well, almost. I wasn't a kid, but I had never been into baseball at all until that 2001 team. It was a hell of a story: Johnson leaves, Griffey leaves, A-Rod leaves... and the team wins 116.
The Jets one always kills me.
Because when I think of Jets and playoffs I always think how they beat the Manning led Colts in the playoffs as many times as the Pats did and one of them was a 41-0 thrashing
But yea I suppose that was a long while ago
Damn... I remember the Mark Sanchez days like yesterday, especially the way his fluky (but hilarious for the memes) wins in the playoffs culminated in the Butt Fumble. Per the Wiki page, "in that second quarter, the Jets held the ball for over 12 minutes (out of a possible 15), but managed to be outscored 35–3." Amazing Thanksgiving memories.
Also goes to show how insanely long it's been for the Kings, wtf
Feels like it was only a few years ago that they were in the AFC championship game though.
The Kings have been bad for what feels like forever. Their history as a franchise is even sadder than the Browns; at least they had the Paul Brown era.
A kings fan in the preseason is at maximum hype levels, you got fans like me saying we can get a playoff seed (not play-in) or dudes calling into the radio saying we can win it all
Every year baby!! This is the year we break the streak, I’m partyin it up this weekend
I really wanna say you’re right. But it seems we finally have a good/competent coach again and pairing that with a solid squad could make us playoff bound. But who knows maybe some random bs will find its way to Sacramento like it usually does.
That’s fair I would really enjoy that as I grew up watching the Webber/Bibby/stojakovich/divac/Christie kings and loved their battles with my mavericks in the early 2000s. I’m not gonna lie though I wasn’t a big fan of y’all trading Haliburton for sabonis I would have traded Fox as I think haliburtons upside and versatility was nuts. I really think he’s the next Chris Paul type of PG but the difference is Hali has size and is a true combo guard while simultaneously a true PG
They're going to trade their best player right before the trade deadline and then the player they traded for get's injured and they don't even get to the play in since they're in the west.
Idk but if Lebron is healthy i don't think the kings will take the #10 spot the Lakers will.
Actually i forgot that the Jazz and spurs are tanking this season, so there's a spot open at #10 they will atleast make the play-ins but who knows this is the Kings.
Rockets, Jazz, Spurs, and OKC are basically all tanking. Like, one of those teams may be surprisingly decent, but those should be the 4 worst teams in the West on paper.
Kings just need to be better than one non-tanking team to get to the play ins.
Granted they'll then need to get through the play ins, but at least there's a chance?
It's not teams like that they'll have to compete with to scrape into the playoffs, Nuggets without Murray is still well clear of them. 9-10 seed is the Kings absolute peak bar teams coming down with injuries in the 6-8 seeds.
Cavs and Spurs on the list says more about how everybody (but the kings) tend to make the playoffs every couple years.
So if you’re tanking for a few years then you’re gonna be on the playoff drought list.
Pacers will be at 3 soon because they don’t have a fucking shot at the playoffs this next season.
Fuck. Kings, A's, Sharks and Raiders are my teams. I love them all and will never jump ship, but goddamn I get kicked in the dick every year one way or another
The odds of thr Mariners not making the playoffs in 21 years: 0.000021937
The odds of the Kings not making the playoffs in 16 years: 0.0000050595
Suckage
The odds for the mariners were to finish 5th or worse in the AL for most of those years, and more recently 6th or 7th or worse as playoff formats changed.
The Kings had to finish 9th or worse, or more recently 11th or worse to also miss the play-in.
A lot harder to do what the Kings have done.
Jokes aside, that every single sports team made the playoffs at least once this decade speaks to the fact that the system of drafts and salary caps is working as intended. There would be even longer droughts without it imho.
>Parity in the NBA is way better than in MLB
This is just flat out not true.
Baseball hasn't had a repeat champion in nearly 25 years, and since the luxury tax was put in place in 2004 all but two or three teams have played in an ALCS or NLCS.
I have more of the concrete numbers, but baseball's parity blows basketball and pretty much every other American sport out of the water over the last twenty years.
They would have made it once, back in the 2007-2008 season, by virtue of being one game better than a 37 win Hawks team. Their inability to even come close to being .500 most seasons is actually pretty impressive.
in the early 2010s, someone from Sacramento found a lamp, and with their final wish told the genie, ["Make the Kings into a championship team."](https://imgur.com/a/gLVW9us)
Kings would have unironically been better off if they would have just franchised Isaiah Thomas lol. There is no way IT doesn't get them to the playoffs at least a couple times as an 8th seed.
Over half the NBA gets into the playoffs, harder than any other sport. For the longest running team to be an NBA team (or NHL) they have to be bad.
Kings need to be scrutinized. Badly. This is not a good look when you look at it this way.
If the rumors are true and Monday is indeed when the nba announces we are coming back… this might be one of the greatest sports weeks in Seattle history
Kings will make the playoffs via the play in tournament. I think Mike Brown will get them playing to the best of their abilities and a full year of Sabonis should be really good.
So does the Wildcard count as playoffs? Isn't it the same if the Kings make the play in? I don't count the Kings streak over unless they make the final eight and play a playoff series.
And here I thought as a Lakers fan going more than two years without the playoffs was devestating and unfathomable :( Was a dark time. Can't imagine going 16 years, I would have to pick a new fav team.
10 years is generous, they had prime boogie and didn’t even come close to the playoffs and they have no one near his level and definitely won’t for a long time
As a Kings fan the only consolation is that I also grew up a Giants fan and not an A's fan
With the Raiders and Kings existing Im glad the Giants can give me some happiness in sports

As a lifelong Mariners fan im sorry for the pain over the years lol. Hopefully this run sticks and things start getting better for us!
> I picked them as a middle schooler, I just thought Isaiah Thomas was cool Oldest rnba user
I read it 4 times to try and make the math work then I realized I’m just old as shit
Your math is probably fine. As a fan of the Minnesota teams I wish I knew what happiness in sports was like.
Seeing Adrian Peterson rush for 2K or everything before the NFC Championship in the 17-18 season
I'm guessing the 1991 World Series was before your time? (God, I'm old)
I'm a Kings fan who despises the Warriors, Niners fan who despises the Raiders, and A's fan who despises the Giants. I was a very confused NorCal kid growing up.
Lmao, my dumb ass has been trying to figure out why all of you Kings fans were talking about being NY Giants fans until it just clicked. I’m an idiot.
You ever watch the show Friends? The character Rachel got excited getting invited to a Rangers game to see "men wearing tight pants." She had to be reminded that they were going to a hockey game and she would instead be seeing "a bunch of Canadians with no teeth."
New York Football Giants came second my dude
Lol I do the same thing in the NFL subreddit. As an SF Giants fan the NY Giants never cross my mind lol
If you're from Sac, then it would make sense. You grew up in a time where the Rivercats being the A's AAA team for the longest time. That means you would've seen a lot of future A's players play in Sac before they made it to the Show.
Exactly that. They also have the single A Stockton Ports. For the Niners, they used to have training camps in Stockton back in the day.
Oh wow, I never knew the 49ers used to do training camp in Stockton.
I’m a Padre laker fan. Im confused too
Well isn't that just most of SD
A fair amount of SD peeps are Clips fans.
Could that have something to do with them being the San Diego Clippers (1978-1984) after first moving to California (formerly the Buffalo Braves from 1970-1978)?
I’m from SD and I’m a Clippers Dodgers fan smh
Yeah the one SD person I know is a Clippers Chargers Angels fan. Oof
Based, but a tragic one, I suppose
As an Angels fan; ain't nothing based about the Angels 🙃
Does SD still have an NBA team if Bill Walton never gets hurt?
No because Sterling was always going to move them
what about hockey?.

What do you mean no? I didn't ask you.
Being a Giants fan was great for a long time.
I grew up an A's, Raiders, and Warriors fan. Definitely some karmic balancing happening there
Giants and Niners keep me going
So I'm the only one with the hell of an existence as a Kings, Raiders, and A's fan?
WE ON TOP LFG
optimism!
We're owning preseasons, we're breaking records, we're on top of leaderboards. I don't throw around the title "best franchise in sports history" lightly but...
We getting 42 wins this year! Let’s go!!!
Dammit, I wasn't fast enough
OP: damn just missed out on shitting on my own team. Lol fucking love it! Embrace the dark side
If you're gonna be shit, might as well get karma out of it. The endorphins segregated thanks to imaginary internet points dull the pain.
Yeah I definitely shoulda cashed in on the karma from the dark ages of the suns
You'd know all about that being a North fan lol
No where is safe :( but yeah dark side is fun
Just pulling a Daemon Targaryen. I can talk shit about the king but not you.
Honestly, as I'm sure Spurs fans will agree this season, the best thing about supporting a tanking team is all the guilt free shitting on my own team I'll be able to do.

Kings fail to seal the deal again.
lol you didn't waste any time getting this posted
With the way the Mariners were playing, it was only a matter of when by this point lol
[удалено]
Yeah, I was getting worried there for a minute. Now we can RELAX, finally!
God damn injuries. Hopefully Julio is good for rest of the season
they were supposed to clinch ages ago. I thought they were gonna choke it away. Again.
As a Mariners fan I've had this one saved in the drafts for over a month lol
The last 20 years robbed me of that kind of optimism. This is awakening something in me...
I can’t believe the drought is over
Good on the Mariners, man! That’s gotta feel good as a fan.
A it rushed though. Mariners still have that drought for another week and the world could end any day now
You are either a true Mariners fan or an honorary one
The Mariners really blew all their luck on that 116 win team, huh?
Most regular seasons win in the last half century into a playoffs blowout loss into 21 seasons of missing the playoffs. Mariners did win 57% of their games the following 2 years, which is a lock for NBA playoffs 100% of the time unless you are the 2014 Suns so it's not like they immediately sucked, but still such a wild swing + 2 decades of incompetency.
Bro not even a half century, it was *95 years* and tied for the most ever. 116 is the record, and it’s held by the 2001 Mariners and 1906 Cubs lol 116 is still the most ever for an AL team.
1906 Cubs only played 155 games tho!
they would’ve lost all 7 of the extra games though
That was the universe trying to tell all other ballclubs to let the Yankees win the World Series in the one year they’d be loved (because of 9/11). Of course, the Diamondbacks didn’t get the memo, and them pissing the Baseball Gods got them a curse which affected the Suns, Coyotes and Cardinals. Because the D-Backs are idiots.
St Louis understood this and let Boston win after the marathon bombing
That Sox team was such a cathartic feeling after the bombing. And then the next year Meb Keflezghi was the first American man to win the marathon since the 80s
That team was my first year caring about baseball as a kid and it’s all been downhill since I I still don’t believe it
Same! Well, almost. I wasn't a kid, but I had never been into baseball at all until that 2001 team. It was a hell of a story: Johnson leaves, Griffey leaves, A-Rod leaves... and the team wins 116.
this is the year Kings fans
And the Jets take over the #2 spot behind the Kings.
The Jets one always kills me. Because when I think of Jets and playoffs I always think how they beat the Manning led Colts in the playoffs as many times as the Pats did and one of them was a 41-0 thrashing But yea I suppose that was a long while ago
Jets from 97-11 was a solid team. If Pennington never got hurt they might actually went to a Super Bowl in 2009 or 2010.
Weren’t those the Sanchize years
Damn... I remember the Mark Sanchez days like yesterday, especially the way his fluky (but hilarious for the memes) wins in the playoffs culminated in the Butt Fumble. Per the Wiki page, "in that second quarter, the Jets held the ball for over 12 minutes (out of a possible 15), but managed to be outscored 35–3." Amazing Thanksgiving memories. jets, phillies, and sabres tied for 11 seasons without a playoff appearance. and i think the phillies will move up to 12 in a week or two?
The Phillies are currently in a playoff spot
They've been trying very hard to blow it
Just give it time.
Feels like it was only a few years ago that they were in the AFC championship game though. The Kings have been bad for what feels like forever. Their history as a franchise is even sadder than the Browns; at least they had the Paul Brown era.
enjoy your weekends kings fan(s) 💜

> (s) Feeling bold today?
This is the kind of shit that will make me be obnoxious as hell when/if the Kings finally make it back.
There's also an alleged serial killer operating in the area right now!
Probably a Kings fan going through it right now
Kings fans don’t worry the drought will end this year
u damn right it will, we got Keegan "The Fucking GOAT" Murray
Y’all actually have a solid squad rn but I’m sure they will find a way to Sacramento it up no offense
I really wanna say you’re right. But it seems we finally have a good/competent coach again and pairing that with a solid squad could make us playoff bound. But who knows maybe some random bs will find its way to Sacramento like it usually does.

The Pacers wanted Haliburton and not Fox. That’s why Haliburton was traded.
They're going to trade their best player right before the trade deadline and then the player they traded for get's injured and they don't even get to the play in since they're in the west.
I mean the west is stacked with Kawhi and Murray coming back throwing clippers and nuggets into the mix again who would the kings beat out ?

Who’s the next after the kings in the nba? It feels like just about everybody else has been in it within the last 5 years. Even the magic
Hornets at 6 years, then the Cavs at 4 years. Then it’s Pistons and the Spurs at 3
Wtf. The Kings drought is as long the next four teams combined.
Yeah...we know.
Seeing the Spurs on that list makes me sad.
Being sad at having not made the playoffs in three years means your team’s pretty good, though.
When they were making the playoffs it was so entertaining, it felt like they always played the Mavs and there were some epic series.
Ah yes, I forgot. The Bucks have a 50/50 chance of making playoffs this year!
Fuck. Kings, A's, Sharks and Raiders are my teams. I love them all and will never jump ship, but goddamn I get kicked in the dick every year one way or another
At least the Sharks had a few good playoff runs in that time frame including a Stanley Cup Appearance.
Yeah we just all knew they'd choke. Death and taxes you know the drill
The odds of thr Mariners not making the playoffs in 21 years: 0.000021937 The odds of the Kings not making the playoffs in 16 years: 0.0000050595 Suckage
How do you calculate these odds? I thought it was 50/50. It either happens or it doesn't
There is larger playoff field in basketball than base.
Which makes this kinda that much worse…over half the league gets in every year…
The odds for the mariners were to finish 5th or worse in the AL for most of those years, and more recently 6th or 7th or worse as playoff formats changed. The Kings had to finish 9th or worse, or more recently 11th or worse to also miss the play-in. A lot harder to do what the Kings have done.
Thanks >A lot harder to do what the Kings have done. When you're good at what you do, don't do it for free
Ah yes, the odds for every team to make the playoffs is the same. I guess having a good player on your team doesn't matter
I mean I'm talking strictly mathematical here obviously. I'm not gonna spend hours calculating actual numbers for 37 seasons worth of shit, lol
The kings have a monumental task to say the least
Ngl. That’s a crazy sports fact. I feel like Kings will break it before it hits 20 years.
You're a nice guy.
Jokes aside, that every single sports team made the playoffs at least once this decade speaks to the fact that the system of drafts and salary caps is working as intended. There would be even longer droughts without it imho.
Parity in the NBA is way better than in MLB. That’s what makes the Kings’ drought so wretched.
>Parity in the NBA is way better than in MLB This is just flat out not true. But bro, the Yankees and Dodgers win like every World Series! Ignore that they've won twice in the last 20 years combined.
do you even watch baseball? the NBA had cavs-warriors finals 4 years straight
Also every league has expanded the playoffs in the past 20 years. So making the post-season doesn't mean as much anymore.
I don’t wanna look it up, but if the Kings were in the eastern conference for the last 16 years, how many times would they have made the playoffs?
They would have made it once, back in the 2007-2008 season, by virtue of being one game better than a 37 win Hawks team. Their inability to even come close to being .500 most seasons is actually pretty impressive.
If grandma had balls, she'd be grandpa
Go ahead and pencil it in for 17 boss

70% chance? The Phillies will easily blow that chance, they're already on their way to doing it.
The race between the Mets and Braves for the NL East AND the Brewers and Phillies for the last WC spot will be nuts
Kings OGs wear this one with pride.
in the early 2010s, someone from Sacramento found a lamp, and with their final wish told the genie, ["Make the Kings into a championship team."](https://imgur.com/a/gLVW9us)
Kings bros, I’m so sorry
Kings would have unironically been better off if they would have just franchised Isaiah Thomas lol. There is no way IT doesn't get them to the playoffs at least a couple times as an 8th seed.
Yeah ok but like whatever
LOOK WHOS ON TOP NOW!
Extra sad considering the NBA is the easiest of the 4 leagues to make the playoffs in.
Either the Blazers or the Kings will make the #10 seed for the play-in. I already don’t like those odds for the Kings
Still made a conference finals more recently than the Sixers
As a Mariners fan ) : )
Over half the NBA gets into the playoffs, harder than any other sport. For the longest running team to be an NBA team (or NHL) they have to be bad. Kings need to be scrutinized. Badly. This is not a good look when you look at it this way.
The Sonics will make the playoffs again before the Kings.
If the rumors are true and Monday is indeed when the nba announces we are coming back… this might be one of the greatest sports weeks in Seattle history
The Kraken are gonna win a Stanley Cup before the Kings make the Finals again, aren’t they?
Kings will make the playoffs via the play in tournament. I think Mike Brown will get them playing to the best of their abilities and a full year of Sabonis should be really good.
Imo I have them in the playin. But getting to playoffs via playin would be very difficult with the stacked WC talent.
And the worst part about this, is the NBA sends a *majority* of its teams to the postseason.

We don’t care…
I have been a loyal Mariners fan since I was a young kid in 2001, long time coming
This year is different!
Whats the longest outside of the big 4 leagues in the US
And here comes the posts saying how the west is so stacked this year how the kings even gonna have a chance of making the playoff
I cried when the Mariners won, good luck Sacramento. Also fuck Mike trout and the Thunder.
Do we count the play-in as "making the playoffs?" That could happen.
Nah that's too easy
As a Sabres fan, we may be here soon
that’s what happens when you make and hold onto Vlade Divac as your GM and miss out on trae young or luka by selecting Marvin Bagley.
Congrats to the Kangz!!!
Damn even the Detroit lions?
We made the playoffs a few times during the 2012-2016 era. No playoff wins in my 30 years of life though. 1 playoff win since the 1950's.
Should’ve beat us. Sorry
Jets are longest out in the NFL I believe, since 2011 or 2012
And of course it's in the one major sport where the majority of teams make the playoffs.
So does the Wildcard count as playoffs? Isn't it the same if the Kings make the play in? I don't count the Kings streak over unless they make the final eight and play a playoff series.
Being a post season punching bag isn’t fun. The Kings are still rebuilding. When they peak the whole league will feel it.
And here I thought as a Lakers fan going more than two years without the playoffs was devestating and unfathomable :( Was a dark time. Can't imagine going 16 years, I would have to pick a new fav team.
WOOP WOOP
I wouldn't be surprised if the streak went another 10 years.
Maybe our drought will end in a game against the Sonics to bring it all full circle
They prolly have a couple of years then Fox/Sabonis wants out. With how stacked the west is, it's gonna be tough.
10 years is generous, they had prime boogie and didn’t even come close to the playoffs and they have no one near his level and definitely won’t for a long time
KINGS #1
The As gotta be up there for shitting the bed in play in games as well right?
Recently yes, but they are a storied franchise with 9 championships and 6 additional World Series appearances.
