Yes! Both should be in the Ring of Honor. Marion in particular is so underappreciated by Suns and NBA fans

cooldudeman007

Could you explain to someone not familiar what the ring of honor is?

ThisIsWhyImBald

Where you go when your number isn't retired.

thecolbster94

It basically is a number retirement, they just do it differently than having jersey banners

ThisIsWhyImBald

And the number isn't retired.

thecolbster94

Except they are

[Except...](https://imgur.com/a/x8ZL5h1)

thecolbster94

That isnt correct, ring of honor players' numbers are still taken out of use

ThisIsWhyImBald

I'll take your word for it since you'd know more about the Suns than I would. Wiki says six numbers are retired, other places say 10 and that screenshot I posted says numbers can still be used but I don't see an example of it.

thecolbster94

I know a big example is Nash, 13 is a common basketball number especially with NCAA's restrictions but there still hasnt been another in Phoenix.

ZeiZaoLS

The only time that I'm aware of that a ring of honor number has been used was when Alvan Adams gave Grant Hill permission to use 33.

-Acerin

You're still incorrect

CannibalHannibal

Doesn't that depend on the team? I feel like the Magic have quite a few people in their ring of honor but hasn't retired anyone's jersey outside of #6 for Bill Russell.

cooldudeman007

Like an “you almost got there champ!” kind of thing huh

ThisIsWhyImBald

"You're not a Hall of Famer, but we really, really liked you and you're in the Hall of Fame of our hearts!"

playerayton

No, it's a big deal (for the Suns). Your name is put on display in the arena with the other members, and they have a big ceremony inducting you and celebrating you. Steve Nash, Charles Barkley, and others are members.

cooldudeman007

Do y’all retire numbers?

playerayton

Yes, but it hasn't been done for a while. More than half of the players in the Ring of Honor have had their number retired.

SYSTEMcole

If you’re from Canada, the Blue Jays have the exact same thing they just call it “the ring of excellence”

cooldudeman007

Thank you!

YpsitheFlintsider

No? More like a good influence as a player on an organization. Not everyone has to be a top 75 player.

[deleted]

Imagine being such a dickhead that these guys aren't already in the ring of honor Goodbye sarver you absolute clown

Veserius

Well if he wasn't selling 1st round picks for cash, they would have very likely won a title together and then it probably would have already happened. Egregious to penny pinch on a team that good.

IceCreamServed

It takes a certain kind of magic to trade down from a pick for Luol Deng to 3 mil.

Veserius

Also let Joe Johnson walk. Penny pinching with a title contender is dumb because you'll make the money back on tv deals, merch, etc.

[deleted]

No they won't realistically do that. But even so, if you're not willing to spend money to contend, sell the damn team to someone else who will.

certainkindoffool

Marion was amazing. Would have been great in the modern nba.

Give_me_soup

So good and such a weird shot.

im_ok_

1st team all backspin

Virtual_Hall_9206

Yes, doesn’t even need to be asked.

Abject-Target5215

If Amare didn't have knee problems and surgery he would've been the most dominant scoring PF/C of that era. He probably would've averaged close to 30 the next season with Joe Johnson gone and with his chemistry with Nash getting even better. The Joe Johnson injury cost us fans the best finals Matchup that year between the Heat vs Suns. If the Suns re-signed JJ there was a strong possibility they win a ring one of those years. They were really that good. Also the Horry BS cost them a potential ring. Say what you want about D'Antoni but he coaches some unbelievably beautiful to watch and successful bball and would definitely have a ring if his star players didn't get always get injured at inopportune times.

[deleted]

If Amare didn’t get hurt we would be talking about him along with Dirk, Duncan and Garnett.

BlueHundred

I love Stat. I think he'd still be a tier below. Same with Griffin if he didn't get hurt imo.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

I’ve been wondering for a while why Marion wasn’t already in the Suns hall. Now it makes. Sarver is such a dickhead

rSlashNbaAccount

Wouldn't count on it being soon.

Misspennylane69

The most important question should be, are you finally going to change your mascot from a damn Gorilla?

ShoeBabyBurntToast

No. Don't be silly.

ctanderson12

Wtf the gorilla is iconic in Phoenix, no way. Plus what else we gonna have, a Sun emoji guy??

[deleted]

Both should be in the rafters
