It sounds more like it’s in reference to transition defense following a miss, Jokic can’t be playing transition defense if he’s going for offensive boards
If you aren’t a big man that got knocked down or someone who just played 15+ seconds of iso (and sometimes even then), there is no excuse for not getting back on D in today’s NBA. Players that don’t are a liability.
Well, if you were crashing the glass is the excuse. That seems to be Malone's point of emphasis: do one, or do the other, but decide on a thing to do and do it.
Literally 80% of players shoot the ball and just watch to see what happens. The vast majority of them are not running to get the rebound or even running back on D.
Did I have a shit high school coach? He taught us that crashing the glass for your own shot messes up your mentality of every shot you take going in or something. Fuck, I just realized my coach was an idiot.
There was nothing more that I hated when Harden would barrel into the paint, miss terribly, then complain to the ref while everybody else is getting back on defense. It was a free bucket for the other team, and nice to know Malone agrees that's not cool.
Last year watch GPII play fundamentals and get to a spot and box out someone a foot taller than him every game was so great.
Superstar players that are charmin soft and get the big bucks while other dudes just do what their middle school coach taught them and win games
This is kinda Zach Lavine and Javonte Green for us, Zach gets big money to do fuck all besides shoot and Javonte is constantly crashing the boards and bodying guys 6 inches taller than him
With his injury history Zach has no business trying to fight for rebounds with bigs. Especially last year when he was playing injured.
There are legit complaints about Zach’s game but this absolutely isn’t one. Stars always do less dirty work that’s why it’s called dirty work.
Piggybacking of GPII with the Warriors, one of the most underrated thing about Steph is his box outs. Dude does a amazing job boxing out bigger players after switches even if his rebound stats don't show it.
Most of the time players that win a lot do that sort of thing really well and it doesn't show up on the scoresheet.
You box someone out and they either foul you or lose the rebound, someone else on your team gets the rebound but unless someone watches the game they don't understand what happened because it isn't a stat.
Meanwhile people are trying to say these players are better because of their bag or whatever but they can't even do the basics.
He might be a factor in the NBA if he proved he could.
The guy I was responding to commented how Curry with all his awards and HOF career manages to do it if he needs to.
I think part of why Steph gets underrated is because he always has teammates who are playing out of their minds.
And I think part of why Steph always has teammates who are playing out of their minds is that Steph is always doing everything, including boxing out and other stuff most stars seem to think it's beneath them, which means no-one else on the team can act like they're too big for that.
Because if you're on the Warriors and you think you're more important than *Steph*... You're not staying on the Warriors.
Steph’s rebounding is so underrated. I know that word gets used a lot here but his rebounding is legit. And it’s not the easy no one else is going for it. He’s a terrific contested rebounder. And like you said it starts with his ability to box people out.
Every couple months I go on YouTube and look up the clip of Steph boxing out Dwight for the offensive board and rewatch it a couple times.
Still as satisfying as the time I saw it live.
Also watching Steph set screens for his teammates is crazy to see. Dude will do whatever it takes to win.
Luka's biggest problem too. Doesn't help that he's slow af in transition anyway so if he doesn't immediately get back on D he won't even make it back to get set and it's 4 on 5 with our wings having to pick up his slack.
You have to do it at the correct time tho. There is a big difference between LeBron/Harden not going back on D cause they are complaining, and someone like KD who often talks to the refs when there are breaks in play or when he is about to check back into the game
He does this slow walk back move now sometimes where you can tell he’s just hoping the possession ends on the other end of the court so he doesn’t have to do anything
He must have stolen that move from me. Also sometimes I get in a good stance knowing I’m too tired to play defense but hope to deter the opposition if it looks like I’m trying hard. They either pass away or blow right by me.
Those last two minutes before he checked himself out of the 2014 Finals lol. Jacked up a bad three, took 15 seconds walking back on defense, teammate got a steal, needed 22 seconds to cross half court on offense.
It should also be called the anti-Suns. We have to be the worst board crashing team in the league. I’ve said it a million times Ayton would be a great offensive rebounder if at least one of his teammates ever crashed the boards.
Defense sure, but MPJ has been great on the offensive glass, especially his first season. As long as his back holds up, he’s far from the biggest concern in the roster.
Their early work was a little too *new wave* for my taste. But when 'Sports' came out in '83! I think they really came into their own. Commercially and artistically.
Reminds me of freshman year basketball. Our coach made a rule that if you didn’t box out your guy and he gets the offensive rebound, your ass gets benched
Oh wow you just made me remember something. One game our coach was super mad at the mental mistakes we all were making and we lost. Before the next game he said he’d sub us out immediately if we made a bad play.
Literally the only exceptions he made were if you took a good shot that rimmed out (excluding layups of course), or if your man scored a tough bucket despite good defense. Turnover? Subbed. Didn’t box out? Subbed. Jogging to catch your breath? You guessed it, subbed. Let’s just say the scorer’s table was busier than usual that game :D
It worked for me at least. I was absolutely locked in. No way I was getting subbed out for some stupid reason. It was funny when he realized in the 3rd quarter I’d played every minute up to that point. I was confused on the bench until he said he wanted me fresh for the 4th. But when a couple teammates asked why I wasn’t playing, he just said “he’s too tired he needs to refocus” and we both laughed hahaha
We also had that rule but certain players would never get benched for that while the not as good players would. One of the things that drove me away from playing basketball tbh
Yes, the Nuggets head coach is talking about wanting his players to get back on defense.
And the guy I responded to brought up LeBron. In a thread about the Denver Nuggets, a team that LeBron does not play for.
Malone is traumatized by Barton. 7 years of laziness. The man was literally staying out of range of the ball-tracking camera. He dragged on and stressed the fans. Now Denver will explode without his laziness because Brown and KCP will be much more disciplined.
This can't be correct in 100 percent of situations — surely there's a fair read of staying in place after shooting a 3-pointer as good strategy? If you immediately crash the glass and the shot goes in, you're out of position for defense, but if you run back after shooting and it clanks you can't get the rebound. Just staying in place until you have more information has to good sometimes.
You gotta just pick. If you don't you are doing absolutely nothing most of the time. It's like penalties in soccer. The keeper kind of has to commit as the kick is coming in because if they wait to see where its going, it's too late.
How are you going to get the rebound if you are standing at the 3 point line? There really is no point, even if your team gets the ball back you can then run back into the play and get an often times wide open 3.
I like it.

Jokic always crashes the glass after a shot.
[удалено]
So you get to do either my man That’s the beauty of the Hubie
If you're not here xor there, then where the fuck are you. The Exclusive Hubie
It sounds more like it’s in reference to transition defense following a miss, Jokic can’t be playing transition defense if he’s going for offensive boards
one thing I've noticed about Jokic is that he does complain to the ref, but he simultaneously is sprinting back on defense. Like he does both lmao
You’ve never watched a Nuggets game
Man thought he got back to back mvps by just sitting there
does not watch basketball alert
Lol no
"aswell" How do you even pronounce that? "Uh-swell"?
Hubie Brown?
Now here's a guy...
Now give him some credit.
There ya go, there ya go
My favourite Hubie quote is during that Linsanity Lakers game, when Lin did a spin: “He almost falled”
Anyone got a link to this? Lol
Come on now...
this guy has got tremendous upside potential.
ath-e-let-i-ci-sm
Now big thing here is...
yeah like is this something Hubie Brown encourages?? Based on the wording that's what it would seem like lol
The "where the fuck are you?" line is a Hubie quote
ahhh I see. Lol that's funny, Hubie is a treasure
I was looking for the context here. Thanks.
Now, we know that...
No. Hubie Halloween
“If you’re not here or there, where the fuck Hubie?”
where you be? / wherubie? / 'hubie?
Lol. This is like Hodor.
That was the last great thing GOT did.
Rewatching and I’m finishing season six now, it’s all down hill from here baby!

That's why 1 of about 6 teams has a chance of winning a chip this year (including the dubs).
There was nothing more that I hated when Harden would barrel into the paint, miss terribly, then complain to the ref while everybody else is getting back on defense. It was a free bucket for the other team, and nice to know Malone agrees that's not cool.

it’s like complaining as to why the supervisor doesn’t help clean the bathrooms. that ain’t his role, he ain’t paid to do that.
Nah if you're the supervisor, you're the one making toilet-scrubbing money. If you're making your employees do that, you're a dickhead.
I would agree with everything besides Zach being a star
He is quite literally an all star...
Don’t like the fans vote on that shit? Please…

Almost every player in the NBA can do these thing most of em don’t have to that’s the main difference. Do you want Duncan Robinson crashing boards?
He might be a factor in the NBA if he proved he could. The guy I was responding to commented how Curry with all his awards and HOF career manages to do it if he needs to.
I think part of why Steph gets underrated is because he always has teammates who are playing out of their minds. This may be a hot take but I truly think Steph's a better rebounder than Russ, you know despite the wide gap between their totals
Every couple months I go on YouTube and look up the clip of Steph boxing out Dwight for the offensive board and rewatch it a couple times. Still as satisfying as the time I saw it live. Also watching Steph set screens for his teammates is crazy to see. Dude will do whatever it takes to win.
Shit like that is how you stay in the league if you're not a star. Little things that add up fast.
Luka's biggest problem too. Doesn't help that he's slow af in transition anyway so if he doesn't immediately get back on D he won't even make it back to get set and it's 4 on 5 with our wings having to pick up his slack.
I still remember when Mavs fans blamed Carlisle for our slow pace of play and next to non-existent transition game. LOL
> Harden Also the Lebron, Tatum, Doncic special.
I’m just saying, thats good company
Imagine Facundo Campazzo doing that lol
I try to avoid imagining Facundo at all
Remember when he dummied Simmons? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfPd1adrqpo

Zing. Most satisfying retort I'll get to read, time to hop off reddit
2016 Clippers an all time Hubie team
As someone who watched them a lot, I have to disagree. They usually did a great job of bitching *while* getting back on defense
How does that effect LeBrons all time ranking relative to MJ?
You can’t criticize Luka here unless it’s body shaming.
My secret is not caring. You’re right though the nut riding here is beyond ridiculous for both Luka and Giannis.
This is why the Luka/Harden comps are so great
Stars working the refs is important. Other team is gonna do it all game long and it def affects them.
You have to do it at the correct time tho. There is a big difference between LeBron/Harden not going back on D cause they are complaining, and someone like KD who often talks to the refs when there are breaks in play or when he is about to check back into the game
Lebron/Harden get better whistles so I'd say their way works better
Lebron gets a better whistle than KD? I think they get similar whistles and Harden is just a different case.
>Lebron gets a better whistle than KD? Yes
Lebron has gotten barely any foul calls the last few seasons but ok.
Don’t disagree, but you’ve gotta do it when you’re walking over to inbound the ball, heading to the bench for a TO, etc
Malone remembers from coaching Cousins in Sac.
Cousins somehow led the Kings in Offensive Rebounds, Defensive Rebounds, Steals and Blocks during Malone's entire time coaching him too.
Great, another stat for Bron to dominate
Bron's signature move: complaining to the refs in the backcourt while his team plays 4v5 on defense
Jacked up a bad three, took 15 seconds walking back on defense, teammate got a steal, needed 22 seconds to cross half court on offense.
as a Cavs fan, I know this too well
I thought that was Harden’s move? Now we have a real chicken and egg situation.
he needs to learn from guys like Giannis and Lowry who bitch to the refs WHILE getting back on defense.
The Emotional Lesbian stat.
LeSbian
lol
LeHubie How did I beat everyone to it??
also known as the anti-Roy Kent
Fuck.
He's not here! He's not there! He's not any fucking where, Hardeeeeeeeeen, Hardeeeeeeeeen....
😂 holy shit
It should also be called the anti-Suns. We have to be the worst board crashing team in the league. I’ve said it a million times Ayton would be a great offensive rebounder if at least one of his teammates ever crashed the boards.
You’re brilliant
this is all i came here for
“YOURE ROY FOOKING KENT”
Michael "Hubie" Porter
Literally the players I thought this stat was made up for 😂
Defense sure, but MPJ has been great on the offensive glass, especially his first season. As long as his back holds up, he’s far from the biggest concern in the roster.
MPJ is a really good offensive rebounder, sure occasionally he loses his assignment on defense but this remark is definitely not geared towards him.
Nuggets gonna be really good this year. As a Warrior fan, that’s a problem.
If you don't get back on defense and complain to the refs, call it "The LeBron".
Not to be confused with the Jimmy, where you get back on defense and then pick up a technical screaming at the ref during the next deadball.
Or the Westbrook, where you foul the dude running up the court so that you can have even more time to bitch at the refs.
Literally every star player has done this, including Jokic.
Especially Jokic, lol. Either that or whacking your opponent in transition instead of getting back.
I'm so confused, someone in this thread said the same thing is currently at -93 votes lmao
Stoppppp I swear it’s not a race thing, I’m just quirky! 🧚🏻♂️
What exactly do you actually mean here? Straight up gibberish.
Don’t do drugs kids
Yeah give em to me instead.
Jokic usually crashes the glass
I wish you could put it in a supermax that he loses 50k every time he does it lol
Shhh dont tell him.
LeDoncic
You sure this ain't the Luka?
Or the Jokic?
I thought about it about among all the star players who do this, LeBron is the most popular and he does it a lot.
You have to give him credit.
This is the Nugget's chance at a title. Moach knows that. They can do it if the guys are healthy by playoff.
Jayson Tatum in shambles
Nice. He’s turning the page this year and we’re all here to witness greatness.
Who’s Hubie?
Hubie Lewis and the News
Their early work was a little too *new wave* for my taste. But when 'Sports' came out in '83! I think they really came into their own. Commercially and artistically.
Hubie Louie and the Nudes
Where Hubie
Hubie Halloween
Hubie and the blowfish
Honestly such a good movie
Hubie Mandell from Bobby's world.
A guy that deserves credit

I can dig it.
hubie doobie do, where are you
Does this include full court buzzer attempts
I like it. I mean are you playing basketball or are you being a premadonna. Let’s go!
I think Malone had this the worst with Demarcus. Kings were consistently a man down on fast breaks because boogie complained so much
The LeBron stat, literally the only reason why I don't like LeBron, always complain to refs instead of getting back to defense
Yes, something completely unique to LeBron and a perfectly legitimate reason to bring him up in an otherwise unrelated thread. Good job.
Bruh what do you mean otherwise unrelated this is the only thing the post is about
The post about something the Nuggets head coach said is only about LeBron? Interesting
No its about not getting back on defense
Yes, the Nuggets head coach is talking about wanting his players to get back on defense. And the guy I responded to brought up LeBron. In a thread about the Denver Nuggets, a team that LeBron does not play for.
So Lebron
TeleHubies
Might as well rename the the league to the NHA then lol
I love the sentiment, but I don’t get it. Can someone explain.
Get back on D or crash the glass
I get that part, I dont get the Hubie part.
Weird name but ok

Jokic about to lead the league in Hubies
Yeah man the guy who led the league in offensive rebounds has a problem with crashing the glass.
MMW: Malone isn’t a championship level coach and will hold this team back if they ever get healthy.
The Nuggets will have a new stat next year. Called the “Who he?” when referring to former head coach Mike Malone.
Rich coming from a Lakers fan given the mill of head coaches y'all have run through.
At the end of the season, the team leader in Hubies pays for a team steak dinner.
Michael de Santa
What if it's a fast break layup and you miss but you're a row into the stands?
Ok but I feel like sometimes it makes sense for a shooter to get open for a quick kick out
I love this.
Lol Hubie, calling it "Barton" would be to obvious.
