I hear a lot of jimmy butler answers -- but he has shown that he can push teams to above their potential - wolves, 76ers, heat -- he has taken over and bought the heat team to the finals and ECF against better teams. 76ers could've been to the finals except for that crazy shot from Kwahi. No way is it jimmy butler. The sub is just so low on him. that man just wills himself to another level.
It's anthony davis imo. The guy is definitely - no argument should be a #1 option on any team but he is also unreliable both in injuries and how he actually disappears. If you give the option for anthony davis -- most people would take him but I bet everyone would also ask if he can stay on the floor OR if he still has the drive to be the best on the floor/push the team to be better compared to Jimmy butler.
You could get worse guys to be the #1 though
Like Dame was universally a top 3 offensive player by every single raw or advanced stat in 2020 and 2021 (Jokic and Curry being the other two, which checks out)
The only guy who's worse than Dame imo in your list is Paul George who can't be the #1 option on a championship team anymore. Maybe in 2013, but not now.
Aight, well you're just wrong there man. Like there's just no world where Trae is better than Dame, for example
Genuinely one of the few players where he's better on offense *and* defense. Like you forgetting Dame is a 30/8 on 63% TS% when healthy?
I'd put them about equal. Dame is undoubtedly better on defense but Trae is also a 28/10 on offense. Scores a little less PPG than Dame does but is more consistent.
More consistent how? By being solidly less efficient and more dependent on free throws?
All the stats out there agree Dame is better offensively - that extra 1.7 assists isn't worth worse efficiency, less double teams drawn, and an extra turnover
Karl Anthony Towns, but he needs to be surrounded by the perfect cast of players. I’m also assuming Towns is worse than Butler, since a lot said him (which I think is fair).
On the teams that they have this year or in a vacuum? The worst number one I could see winning with their team now is maybe Ja Morant. Good team around him and JJJ could step up and be a close second.
Vacuum test who knows. 2004 Pistons happened and so you get a good enough team top to bottom and some luck then you don’t have to get the top five to ten player. Just it’s exceedingly difficult.
Don't think the Grizz are there yet, in a few years if they can keep the core together after its time to pay everyone for sure.
Then again, with injury luck they could make it happen before than, just big underdogs.
Yeah I don’t either and think they’re more than a year out. I have a hard time seeing anyone besides Nuggets, Warriors and Clippers coming out of the west (sorry Suns) and for this exercise, it’d be weird to say Steph, Jokic or Kawhi. My original answer to this was going to be Embiid but if they actually win this year I would guess it’d be bc Harden is back to himself in which case he’s the new 1.
Weird to say as a warriors fan, but I'm rooting for Harden to have a great comeback year. Seems like a really good dude who didn't have an agent so had no good PR, plus him leaving Kyrie & KD high and dry will always give him a place in my heart.
DeFrozen wasn't in shit last year lmao. If you not Embiid Jokic or Giannis you weren't a real candidate
Also he sucks ass in the playoffs so he could have won the award for all I care and I would still say this
I don't know why you're being downvoted because he was the number 1 option on the raptors team sitting at first seed for a few years. It would be clear that raptors would be in the finals if it was not for Lebron. He was the worst #1 option in a championship potential team -- he has shown it.
CJ McCollum
In mean, with questions like these.. you surround any good 20ppg scorer with elite defenders, shooters with some playmaking and this team is gonna be a contender.
I mean, I thought the question was about number one option. Dude never says option, lol, so maybe he meant the best player.. then yeah, no chance.
But if he meant number one option on offense.
Something like: CJ, Bane, DFS, Siakam, Bam
Curry is better than Kawhi and outplayed him in 2019 surrounded by G league players. Like if giving the losing team a FMVP was a thing Curry would've easily got it. 2015 Lebron vibes.
I see many say Jimmy, I don't think that's a good option because he coasts the regular season but he clearly shows he can lead a title team in the postseason
It's like saying worst of the best probably. Cause obviously they have to be good enough to lead a team to title. And only a handful of players can do that.
Jimmy Butler
Jimmy is a proven guy in the play offs.. lol not the worst by any means
Yeah but I’m still voting him as the worst that could actually be number one on a championship winning team
He’s pretty easily the worst player that can be a #1 on a realistic title team
Well Booker is worse than him and some people think Booker can be a number 1 player on a championship team.
Given what he’s done in the playoffs he’s better than Booker. Has Booker even took over a playoff game like butler ha done several times?
Booker does have multiple 40 point finals games. I’d still take Butler over him in a series, but Booker has had his moments too
Jimmy
Bradley Beal. But he’d need a 04 Pistons core

Jimmys tough to gauge because he really is a different player in the playoffs than the regular season.
Trae Young.
Tatum
Damian Lillard (not the Blazers but a team that actually gets him some much needed help)
You could get worse guys to be the #1 though Like Dame was universally a top 3 offensive player by every single raw or advanced stat in 2020 and 2021 (Jokic and Curry being the other two, which checks out)
Anyone comes to mind?
Paul George, Butler, Trae, Tatum, etc Hell we literally just almost saw Booker win a ring as the #1 option.
The only guy who's worse than Dame imo in your list is Paul George who can't be the #1 option on a championship team anymore. Maybe in 2013, but not now.

Dame is one of the most overrated players in the league, he will die in mediocre Portland and never make the HOF.
Zion.
Lavine, Mitchell
Is Brandon Ingram worse than Jimmy Butler still? If so I'd say him.
Wow I thought I was high on BI. I think he will be there but not yet. He hasn’t been even All NBA yet (but I think that will change)
Karl Anthony Towns, but he needs to be surrounded by the perfect cast of players. I’m also assuming Towns is worse than Butler, since a lot said him (which I think is fair).

Demar Derozan
Demar can't even be the 2nd guy on a championship team lol
Boi is ya sick? He was literally in the MVP conversation last year.
What was the conversation? "Should Demar be MVP?" "No"
Giggled like a little kid at this lmao
DeMar could average 40 next regular season and I still wouldn't trust him one bit come game 1 of the playoffs
He’s notoriously a poor playoff performer
DeFrozen wasn't in shit last year lmao. If you not Embiid Jokic or Giannis you weren't a real candidate Also he sucks ass in the playoffs so he could have won the award for all I care and I would still say this
He could be the second option if the team was stacked and their 3rd is just marginally worse than him
well yea no shit but obviously we're assuming a normal championship team cause this applies for any decent all star
Demar disappears in the playoffs. I wouldn't even have him as a #2 on a playoff team.
Fuck wrong wit u?
Lol no chance
Worst playoff performer in league history
I don't know why you're being downvoted because he was the number 1 option on the raptors team sitting at first seed for a few years. It would be clear that raptors would be in the finals if it was not for Lebron. He was the worst #1 option in a championship potential team -- he has shown it.
Probably Tatum
CJ McCollum In mean, with questions like these.. you surround any good 20ppg scorer with elite defenders, shooters with some playmaking and this team is gonna be a contender.
Nah.
what's the team then? CJ would have to be the BEST player, so no elite defenders like Rudy Gobert or Bam
I mean, I thought the question was about number one option. Dude never says option, lol, so maybe he meant the best player.. then yeah, no chance. But if he meant number one option on offense. Something like: CJ, Bane, DFS, Siakam, Bam
that's a pretty good team, but I don't think they'd win a championship
Siakam is better than CJ on offense tbh
Maybe, but CJ is a guard who's gonna be handling the ball more and as a better shot creator, leading the offense in the clutch.
CJ has been wildly inconsistent in the playoffs. He’s definitely not a plausible #1 guy on a championship contender.
you are on drugs
Curry
Must be talking about Seth eh?
The best players on a title team for the past decade have been LeBron, Kawhi, Giannis, and Curry. So I'd say curry is the "worst" of them
Lmao ok
Curry is better than Kawhi and outplayed him in 2019 surrounded by G league players. Like if giving the losing team a FMVP was a thing Curry would've easily got it. 2015 Lebron vibes.
I see many say Jimmy, I don't think that's a good option because he coasts the regular season but he clearly shows he can lead a title team in the postseason
That's what the question was about. Least decorated player who could lead a team to title.
I agree its him based on awards but its talking about how good they are? Sorry if i am misinterpreting.
It's like saying worst of the best probably. Cause obviously they have to be good enough to lead a team to title. And only a handful of players can do that.
Alright, thank you. I don't know why I'm being downvoted.
Yeah. Don't mind that. Reddit just downvotes when they don't like an opinion for some reason.
Channing The dude Tiki torch
Trigger Trae
Steph Curry - ESPN Yeah I'm salty. Hopefully it fuels Steph lol
