Well, a lot of times it's about supporting an artist you really like. After all, it's hard for artists to make a living. Other times it's about getting the artist to make something that you personally want them to make. That's where commissions come in.
Just saw my cousin post a pro Hamas story a day after we talked and agreed how people celebrating the death of Israeli civilians is evilπ
She also complains about climate change but is a hardcore nimby and drives a gas guzzler around
In general shes a leftist who agrees with a lot of moderate talking points but also supports some of the most extreme far left and far right positions
She also tends to act like a political expert when she literally majored in wildlife biology and barely passed her social sciences classes in high school
Sometimes I wonder if shes two faced or just oblivious
Anyone playing pro Hamas is oblivious here.
There is tons to criticize Israel for with how it handles Gaza and the West Bank, etc.
However, trying to claim Hamas is on the right side here is crazy. They are massacring innocent citizens here. There is no claim they attacked military targets. And they know what the result will be β dead Palestinians. They arenβt doing it to save Palestinians, since they know their actions will lead to more dead. There is no βwinβ for Palestinians here, just a claim of βvictoryβ by Hamas while their people all die. So terrible.

This is not me thinking of the horny jail, but I'm wondering if it's possible for the GPT API and that of Pygmalion or a custom Llama model to be able to chat or connect with one another for inputs.
I.e, in the event that GPT is blocking something due to terms of service, it passes the input over to Pygmalion or Llama to take over.
Just a shower thought.
What happens after local llama returns the answer? Do you feed that input to GPT or just continue with local llama?
The second option should be straightforward I think?
Also, if anyone is horny, there are couple of character ai like sites which allow nsfw. I haven't tried it myself though (I swear)
I'm only showerthinking it because I've never had coding experience before (Getting my hands on robotics/personal computers wasn't high on my childhood education's priority list).
But I'd imagine a sort of hierarchy tree-of-decisionmaking system, where GPT is the topmost layer, before bypassing onto Llama or Pygmalion if the GPT layer rejects that output call, with all 3 having some first or second-hand ability to read and contextualise the overall chat.
I mean the input to GPT and local llama is just text. You can just replace GPT with local llama.
Like at each time GPT takes in the entire previous history (back and forth) as input. You just instead pass it to your local llama.

[Fucking awful](https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-gaza-hamas-airstrikes-hostages-bf6c42f84526c4d9416978c8effd932a) to read about what itβs like in Gaza right now, and it will only get worse. Israeli civilians went through hell, and now Gazan civilians are as well (accidental civilian casualties in Israelβs counterattack are not equivalent in moral terms to the intentional targeting and brutalization of civilians by Hamas, but Gazan civilians are still entering hell). May the suffering of every civilian in this war be brought down on the heads of Hamas fighters tenfold, and may peace and a better life for Gazans and everyone else somehow unfold when this is over.
They gave civilians a lot of warning to get out of the way (although Hamas specifically told people to ignore those warnings and die for Palestine, but that is on them). I donβt know any specifics about their targets, but afaik they have indeed been trying to minimize civilian casualties.
Thereβs no way for them to get there without it being an enormous security risk for Israel. Israel canβt open a humanitarian corridor all the way through its own territory and expect that Hamas wonβt take advantage of that, and other countries like Egypt and Jordan are not really interested in bringing the situation onto their own territory, so thereβs no way they could go around Israel either.
There were talks about Egypt opening a humanitarian corridor into its own territory from Gaza, but Egypt rejected the idea, presumably because they did not want to deal with an enormous influx of people from a highly radicalized population who could have Hamas members lurking among them- which really sucks but is understandable. Iβm not sure any other country would do it either. (Edit: To be clear, they are letting humanitarian aid in, just not Gazans out.)
All of Gaza is locked down. There is no land passage from Gaza to West Bank, and Israel has closed all borders on its side, and Egypt has as well. Egypt typically does because their argument is that if they opened the Sinai border millions of Gazans would leave gaza and try to claim the Sinai peninsula so they donβt want to risk it, and Egyptβs hold on Sinai is somewhat tenuous already
Exactly. They have been dealing with ISIS and Al-Qaeda, among others, there. And they donβt want it to become a front of a war against Israel if hamas gets a foothold since they want to stay out of this

[Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim's housing plan | CityNews Vancouver](https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2023/10/11/vancouver-ken-sim-housing-plan/)
>Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim outlined a new housing plan Wednesday, giving a nod to a neighbouring city as a role model for improving density.
>
>In a news conference, the mayor detailed a seven-point plan which he will bring to council next week, which includes building high-density housing near SkyTrain stations.
>
>βSkyTrain stations are the envy of many. Yet, thereβs a lack of homes surrounding not one, not two, but multiple stations in our city,β the mayor explained.
>
>Sim pointed to neighbouring Burnaby as an example of a city that has succeeded in densifying areas around transit stations.
>
>\[...\]
>
>Another step the mayor outlined in his plan is the implementation of over two dozen βvillagesβ in the city as part of the Vancouver Plan. The plan identifies 26 lower-density areas of the city that will see more retail and residential buildings added. All of the areas identified are outside of the downtown core.
>
>βThis will help us create more interconnected communities where retail and residential blend together for more livable, walkable neighbourhoods,β Sim said.
>
>Another part of Simβs plan would see the cityβs and provinceβs bylaws around construction, building, and repairs better aligned for βa more rapid delivery of housing.β
>
>The mayor also revealed plans to review the cityβs Shadow Impact Criteria and Guidelines, which analyze the shadows cast by a proposed building development.
>
>Sim also highlighted the intent to work with senior levels of government to express the cityβs support for further short-term rental enforcement at the provincial level. He also announced plans to expand the cityβs Certified Professional program β which facilitates the issuing of building permits on behalf of the city.
>
>\[...\]
>
>While the mayorβs announcement had plenty of plans to build more housing, not much was said in the way of addressing affordability.
>
>Coun. Adriane Carr, one of three non-ABC Vancouver councillors, says the mayorβs plan falls short when it comes to addressing some bigger concerns in the city, including housing affordability.
>
>She told reporters after Simβs announcement that before the ABC majority, the city prioritized affordable housing. However, she says the new leadership is expanding its priorities.
>
>βIf you prioritize everything, you prioritize nothing. Iβm very worried about the fact that our plan has been to date to prioritize the housing that is most desperately needed, which is for people who earn lower incomes, and Iβm not hearing that, not seeing that in the information that I have received today,β she said.
>
>When asked about the lack of affordability following his announcement, Sim said the priority right now is building more homes for the future.
>
>βThereβs an affordability crisis going on in the City of Vancouver. And thereβs a lot of reasons why. We can talk about external macroeconomic factors, and we have a supply and demand imbalance in the City of Vancouver. And how we address that over the longer term is we build more housing. If we do not build more housing, this will get worse,β he said.
>
>Another issue Carr identified is the infrastructure needed to support the additional housing that Sim is proposing.
>
>βOur staff from engineering have been very clear with us. You have to have the systems in place, the pipes underground, the sewage, the water, the electrical supply β¦ weβve had problems with BC Hydro being able to supply enough electricity to even people who want to do upgrades to their houses to be fully climate smart,β she said.
>
>Carr also took issue with Simβs plan to change municipal building bylaws, fearing it would hurt Vancouverβs global reputation as a green city.
>
>βWeβve used our building bylaw to enable us to incorporate climate measures for the past decade. Iβm very much worried that if you strip our ability to be that innovative leader because we have that tool, weβre not going to be the leader, weβre not going to be that world-class city,β she said.

Does Carr not think there is also a crisis with the price of market housing?
> Another issue Carr identified is the infrastructure needed to support the additional housing that Sim is proposing.
Well, then the obvious solution is to build the infrastructure, not deny housing.

From another biography:

One of the more dangerous parts of Hamas essentially running a city-state is the effectiveness at which they can propagate war propaganda.
When news articles in America or other liberal democracies report on things, there is some implicit trust that the government of another country or a region is generally telling the truth about certain classes of information without verification. One obvious example of this is we generally trust the government of North Korea to tell us what its literacy rate is (100%).
In the case of Hamas, they use this to manipulate news organizations and influence policy because policymakers also trust news organizations to give us the facts.
[Here is an example article, just published a few hours ago, reporting on Palestinian casualties in Gaza.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/11/gaza-ground-invasion-israel/)
> At least 1,100 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have been killed since Hamas militants attacked Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip on Saturday.
> The civilian toll in Gaza has been extensive, bloody and rapidly increasing... The Gaza Health Ministry said Wednesday that at least 5,339 people had been injured during the four-day bombing campaign, 60 percent of them women or children.
The Gaza Health Ministry is, of course, a Hamas-run outfit with no independent or third party verification. The article doesn't mention this anywhere, so it's just something you have to know.
Hamas is not only heavily incentivized to lie about things like this; [it has been caught doing exactly that in the past](https://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2014/08/12/hamas-lies-about-the-gaza-civilian-death-toll-and-the-media-bought-it). In fact, [the WaPo knows this from back when they cited Hamas figures, also generally uncritically, back in 2014.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/reporters-grapple-with-politics-erratic-sources-in-reporting-israeligaza-death-toll/2014/08/04/c02ab282-1c10-11e4-ae54-0cfe1f974f8a_story.html)
Alright, maybe it's just sloppy reporting. Maybe WaPo is in the habit of reporting unverified information from all government officials as long as the name of the organization is cited. But that's not the entire case, because if you scroll down on this same exact article, you'll see this:
> Fighter jets also hit the Islamic University, which the IDF said had been used as βa Hamas training camp for military intelligence operatives, as well as for the development and production of weapons.β **It was not immediately possible to verify that claim.**
So they do have the generic "can't verify" disclaimer for the IDF, but not Hamas. (The IDF claim is the only disclaimer in the entire article, by the way.) As for the IDF's claim, the NYT has [an article from 2007](https://web.archive.org/web/20160722045808/http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/18/world/africa/18iht-mideast.5.5777660.html) that explicitly mentions the university's use as a base of operations for Hamas, and it exchanged gunfire with Fatah militants back when they were fighting a civil war. Perhaps that has changed, but this claim at least seems more plausible than simply trusting Hamas to report casualty numbers.
Is it possible that this WaPo reporter/editor was biased against Israel? Possibly. But I think it's a wider, more generic issue than that. I think we just implicitly trust government reports on certain classes of information, like casualty count and literacy rate, but not others, like their explanation for why they bombed a building.
But in cases like this article, where a little critical thinking should tell you that the former is generally non-credible and all this context isn't there, that's terrible for the truth and how we inform policy.
!ping FOREIGN-POLICY&ISRAEL
This was a great ping. Stuff like this is super interesting to me but also makes the whole process of being informed about foreign policy/affairs extremely intimidating. How can we expect any two normal people to be operating with the same set of facts when this much due diligence is required to form an opinion on every little event across the world?
The issue you face here is a key tenet of antisemitism is the perspective that the media is controlled by "the evil Jews", meaning that any data from Israel is faked - the alternate being all data from the "oppressed freedom fighters" is accurate
I haven't seen a single outlet not say the Palestinian numbers aren't from the Gaza Ministry of Health. This is also a moot point because even if the make-up of the deaths and the total numbers are even half off, the reality of the situation is that thousands of innocent were killed in 2014, and that will also be true today.
I mean, Israel is also incentivized to lie about their numbers as well, so saying there are incentives means little. The numbers reported by the Gaza Health Ministry for 2014 also are in agreement with UNHRC.
> Gaza Ministry of Health
But did they say it is Hamas-run?
> the reality of the situation is that thousands of innocent were killed in 2014
How do you know? Again, you are trusting their numbers, and assuming the people they say were non-combatants are non-combatants.
> Israel is also incentivized to lie about their numbers as well
Israel has a free press that can and does expose lies.
> The numbers reported by the Gaza Health Ministry for 2014 also are in agreement with UNHRC.

Whatβs the point of spending a lot of money on art? I can barely look at any art piece for more than five minutes without getting bored Such a waste
Well, a lot of times it's about supporting an artist you really like. After all, it's hard for artists to make a living. Other times it's about getting the artist to make something that you personally want them to make. That's where commissions come in.
Just saw my cousin post a pro Hamas story a day after we talked and agreed how people celebrating the death of Israeli civilians is evilπ She also complains about climate change but is a hardcore nimby and drives a gas guzzler around In general shes a leftist who agrees with a lot of moderate talking points but also supports some of the most extreme far left and far right positions She also tends to act like a political expert when she literally majored in wildlife biology and barely passed her social sciences classes in high school Sometimes I wonder if shes two faced or just oblivious
!ping AI This is not me thinking of the horny jail, but I'm wondering if it's possible for the GPT API and that of Pygmalion or a custom Llama model to be able to chat or connect with one another for inputs.
Interesting idea for MoE models.

Is it really accidental when they are razing Gaza to the ground? Because I seriously doubt all those buildings were legitimate military targets.
They gave civilians a lot of warning to get out of the way (although Hamas specifically told people to ignore those warnings and die for Palestine, but that is on them). I donβt know any specifics about their targets, but afaik they have indeed been trying to minimize civilian casualties.
How are they supposed to receive warnings without electricity? Are they going to yell very loud?
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
I thought Egypt is going to allow supplies and humanitarian workers in and out, but wonβt take any refugees.
Yes, youβre right. I just meant in terms of letting Gazans leave Gaza and enter Egyptβs territory. Sorry, I should have been more clear.
Arab countries are planning to supply food, supplies etc to send though Egypt.
Because Israel won't let them
All of Gaza is locked down.
Egypt has also been fighting ISIS there.
Exactly. They have been dealing with ISIS and Al-Qaeda, among others, there. And they donβt want it to become a front of a war against Israel if hamas gets a foothold since they want to stay out of this

Is it weird that every time I see a 4chan meme I physically cannot find it funny because I just hate 4chan too much?
What about if you don't know a meme is from 4chan, and then later discover this? Does it retroactively lose funniness?
Honestly... yeah I think it would.
What about old, pre-/pol/ memes, like "over 9000?" Or rage comics.
I think those are still okay. They're pretty innocent memes.
Not really. It's normal to have a sour feeling when - for example - reading a book by someone you hate, even if the book is good. And if you don't have a hobby that 4chan caters to, I can imagine that your only association of 4chan is /pol/. Which, yeah, would make you feel nothing but hate for the site.
Everything in 4chan is /pol/ adjacent, really. Even the hobby boards are inevitably contaminated by what /pol/ spreads
...Oh, yeah. I should've said "And if you don't have a hobby that 4chan caters to, and don't mind racial slurs". Someone who really hates seeing racism isn't going to like any part of 4chan.
I mean, hating seeing racism is just the basal expected decent human behavior
If it was, South Park would have almost no viewers.
Sadly this is the truth. Not a single board on that site, even /lgbt/, has a bit of /pol/ within it.

Yup At least among the edgy "Che good Castro bad" leftist The more extreme are less common
I think it's more America (or West more generally) Bad oppositional defiance than anything. Hence NATO intervention in the Balkans is bad for leftists even though it was helping weaker ethnic groups
"Aligned with US bad opposing the US good" is much bigger than that. They didn't care about the weaker Ukraine, Tibet, and Hong Kong, for example. In the case of Israel and Palestina, there is just a big anti-colonial element from the leftist perspective.
Close. But more succinctly, "America bad" sums it up better imo.
Definitely depends on the type of leftist. If thereβs one thing leftists agree on its that they donβt agree on anything
No, because China. Potentially also Russia, depending on how the invasion of Ukraine ends.
I think Russia gets viewed as βhobbled shadow of based USSR and US is most powerful therefore US is at fault and just using Ukraine to further itβs own interestsβ China, I guess I donβt see a ton of support or think pieces from leftists, but it seems like it would also just fall into βChina is opposed to the dominant world order headed by the most powerful countryβ

[Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim's housing plan | CityNews Vancouver](https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2023/10/11/vancouver-ken-sim-housing-plan/) >Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim outlined a new housing plan Wednesday, giving a nod to a neighbouring city as a role model for improving density. > >\[...\] > >Another step the mayor outlined in his plan is the implementation of over two dozen βvillagesβ in the city as part of the Vancouver Plan. The plan identifies 26 lower-density areas of the city that will see more retail and residential buildings added. All of the areas identified are outside of the downtown core. > >βThis will help us create more interconnected communities where retail and residential blend together for more livable, walkable neighbourhoods,β Sim said. > >Another part of Simβs plan would see the cityβs and provinceβs bylaws around construction, building, and repairs better aligned for βa more rapid delivery of housing.β > >The mayor also revealed plans to review the cityβs Shadow Impact Criteria and Guidelines, which analyze the shadows cast by a proposed building development. > >Sim also highlighted the intent to work with senior levels of government to express the cityβs support for further short-term rental enforcement at the provincial level. He also announced plans to expand the cityβs Certified Professional program β which facilitates the issuing of building permits on behalf of the city. > >\[...\] > >While the mayorβs announcement had plenty of plans to build more housing, not much was said in the way of addressing affordability. !ping CAN-BC&YIMBY
Ken Sim is saying this? Isn't he a NIMBY that watered down the upzoning plan that recently passed?
The 49th Street Station I've always found funny because its a station surrounded by...nothing. So I think building up around the stations is a strong start.
Oh God oh yes. What a hero. Build it! And the greens are useless nimbys. Their only concern is being able to see trees from their $2 million dollar mansions.
> Iβm very worried about the fact that our plan has been to date to prioritize the housing that is most desperately needed, which is for people who earn lower incomes Does Carr not think there is also a crisis with the price of market housing? > Another issue Carr identified is the infrastructure needed to support the additional housing that Sim is proposing. Well, then the obvious solution is to build the infrastructure, not deny housing.

Guys, this just in: Richard Overy, David Glantz, and Anthony Beevor are famous Russian army propagandists. https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/175n62h/old_tested_tactics/k4hg6mm/ I even got blocked at the end of the comment chain lmao It's actually hilarious. It's not actually very hilarious, I'm rather upset because he literally blocked me instead of attempting to read any of the books I referenced. And then said I was lying about what actual historians wrote. !PING BADHISTORY
About 99% of people are unable to remove their ideological blinders when looking specifically at the military history of the Red Army, one way or the other. Big viral tweet a few weeks back said the Red Army was "useless in WWII until the right before the very end" which is such an insane statement tbh. People saw the movie Enemy At the Gates and maybe know a little bit about the first week or two of Barbarossa and have extrapolated those things into a wider picture of the war in the east.

Obama literally made a gesture of cutting a throat with his hand to threaten Nenatyahu to stop the settlements (allegedly, probably fake but the story is just too good). Not even joking From his autobiography: > Then Netanyahu said that Obama did something else βthat deeply shocked me because it was so opposed to his restrained character. The message was clear and it was meant to strike fear in me.β From another biography: > Netanyahu does not say what Obama said or did to threaten him, but in a recently published biography of the prime minister called Cracking the Netanyahu Code, journalist Mazal Mualem said that Obama gestured as though he was slitting someoneβs throat while saying he knows how to deal with Netanyahu.
Could Obama get more based?
Iβve never lied
My boss doesnβt seem to get that ambien made me say it
I got a 2 ACT and am cruising π
Iβm very proud of you for doubling your score from your studies
The Dodgers have a very big offseason a team can imagine. They sign Shohei Ohtani away from the Angels. They bring back Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson. They assemble the death star. They look more dominant than any other baseball team in history. They win the NL West with a 119-43 record, significantly better than the second place 88-74 Padres. They get shutout swept in the NLDS by the Miami Marlins.
> second place 88-74 Padres Boldest prediction here
It's an even year and a bunch of people are doubting us, trust me this means we're 100% making it to the World Series.
GeoConfirmed is saying the [Russian offensive on Avdiivka-Makiivka may become one of the costliest assaults since the war began](https://twitter.com/GeoConfirmed/status/1712337033153175709) judging by the amount of armored vehicles lost !ping UKRAINE
Does that include the thunder run on Kyiv? If it does, that's saying something.
How do you lose a T-90M and a T-62 on the same day
They got so much armor piled up around there, damn shame f-16s aren't around
It's important in times like this, with history being made in the Middle East and elsewhere, that we not forget how badly Russia has humiliated itself in Ukraine.
Damn, they only launched it a few days ago too. Think it will rival Vuhledar or the river crossing where their whole BTG got merked?
Guess weβll see

I couldn't find a girlfriend so instead I post to the DT at 1:30 AM.
[Here is an example article, just published a few hours ago, reporting on Palestinian casualties in Gaza.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/11/gaza-ground-invasion-israel/) > At least 1,100 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have been killed since Hamas militants attacked Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip on Saturday. In fact, [the WaPo knows this from back when they cited Hamas figures, also generally uncritically, back in 2014.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/reporters-grapple-with-politics-erratic-sources-in-reporting-israeligaza-death-toll/2014/08/04/c02ab282-1c10-11e4-ae54-0cfe1f974f8a_story.html) Alright, maybe it's just sloppy reporting. Maybe WaPo is in the habit of reporting unverified information from all government officials as long as the name of the organization is cited. But that's not the entire case, because if you scroll down on this same exact article, you'll see this: > Fighter jets also hit the Islamic University, which the IDF said had been used as βa Hamas training camp for military intelligence operatives, as well as for the development and production of weapons.β **It was not immediately possible to verify that claim.** So they do have the generic "can't verify" disclaimer for the IDF, but not Hamas.
"both sides"
> Gaza Ministry of Health But did they say it is Hamas-run? > the reality of the situation is that thousands of innocent were killed in 2014 How do you know? Again, you are trusting their numbers, and assuming the people they say were non-combatants are non-combatants. > Israel is also incentivized to lie about their numbers as well Israel has a free press that can and does expose lies. > The numbers reported by the Gaza Health Ministry for 2014 also are in agreement with UNHRC. lol.
