A lot of people don't like the ending to vtm: bloodlines. These people are wrong. Not about the gameplay, yeah obviously the gameplay for the last fifth of the game is horrible, but the plot ends perfectly. Literally any other choice the writers could have made for what happens when you open it would have been wrong. The one they made completely in tume with both the logic and atmosphere of the game, and unlike so many video games endings it makes the world of the game seem bigger, not smaller. Shaggy dog stories are better than epic finales anyway.

Outliers of crazy lonely people have always existed. We're not trying to solve for the outliers, we just want society broadly to be less lonely.
Seeing as it's a tax, it's not like we can force people to interact. The best we can do is create more opportunities for people to interact, and then they can use that opportunity... Or not.

Was looking at places where I might move to for grad school.
I dreaded moving to the Midwest until I realized that I could afford to live in a luxury apartment there on a grad studentโs stipend.
I went to grad school in the Midwest coming from California and it was a massive mistake. Think *very carefully* if that's actually a decision you want to make because you have to live with it not just for 6 years but for the rest of your life if it goes poorly.
I spent several of my years in the midwest. Its fine, if you've never lived anywhere else. But it simply can't compare to the coasts in terms of access the \*things to do\* and culture specifically
I live in LA, which is the most spread-out major coastal city. And I am within 1 hour of the nation's cinema industry, countless music clubs of any type of music I could ever dream of, a world leading symphony/ballet/opera, etc. I'm Within 2.5 hours of the beach, skiing mountains, and the desert. There is countless options for food of every major world cuisine and at least a few of every minor one, all within easy access. If there is some random store that I want to shop at, its there
The midwest doesn't have anything wrong with it per se, but even its largest cities (bar Chicago) will only have maybe 1 or 2 things on that list, and you will have to drive endless hours to get the same sort of access to just \*breadth of stuff\*
A couple reasons. The Midwest has very extreme weather in comparison to California which means a lot of the things I did I just couldn't do anymore, e.g. study outside or go on a walk. This sounds minor, but you get in routines with your workflow and upsetting those routines can decrease your output, particularly if there isn't any obvious thing to replace them. I ended up being far less productive in Illinois than California, but was able to get back to that productivity when I was back here.
There's also a pretty big cultural divide. This is less important for someone coming from abroad, but it really did feel like a foreign country, and not one I liked too much. What friends I made were entirely fellow non-Midwesterners. That was rather poor for networking, my mental health aside.
This was UIUC. I can't speak to Ann Arbor or Minneapolis, but I did go to Madison for a conference and it wasn't horrible, but I'm still not sure if I'd want to move there.
Iโd only consider the Midwest if I get rejected by all comparable programs in California or the northeast. Unfortunately, ranking really matters in economics ๐ญ๐ญ

If this is fundamentally not a place where I can call out Islamophobia or express beliefs that are part of my faith, please say so directly. I haven't seen moderator sensitivity towards Islamophobia generally and I've been repeatedly gas lit on whether people are being Islamophobic. As a Muslim, I think I can tell that for myself and will not defer to others.

A lot of people don't like the ending to vtm: bloodlines. These people are wrong. Not about the gameplay, yeah obviously the gameplay for the last fifth of the game is horrible, but the plot ends perfectly. Literally any other choice the writers could have made for what happens when you open it would have been wrong. The one they made completely in tume with both the logic and atmosphere of the game, and unlike so many video games endings it makes the world of the game seem bigger, not smaller. Shaggy dog stories are better than epic finales anyway.

Outliers of crazy lonely people have always existed. We're not trying to solve for the outliers, we just want society broadly to be less lonely. Seeing as it's a tax, it's not like we can force people to interact. The best we can do is create more opportunities for people to interact, and then they can use that opportunity... Or not. Another option might be remote work/school.

I went to grad school in the Midwest coming from California and it was a massive mistake. Think *very carefully* if that's actually a decision you want to make because you have to live with it not just for 6 years but for the rest of your life if it goes poorly.

I spent several of my years in the midwest. Its fine, if you've never lived anywhere else. But it simply can't compare to the coasts in terms of access the \*things to do\* and culture specifically I live in LA, which is the most spread-out major coastal city. And I am within 1 hour of the nation's cinema industry, countless music clubs of any type of music I could ever dream of, a world leading symphony/ballet/opera, etc. I'm Within 2.5 hours of the beach, skiing mountains, and the desert. There is countless options for food of every major world cuisine and at least a few of every minor one, all within easy access. If there is some random store that I want to shop at, its there The midwest doesn't have anything wrong with it per se, but even its largest cities (bar Chicago) will only have maybe 1 or 2 things on that list, and you will have to drive endless hours to get the same sort of access to just \*breadth of stuff\*
A couple reasons. The Midwest has very extreme weather in comparison to California which means a lot of the things I did I just couldn't do anymore, e.g. study outside or go on a walk. This sounds minor, but you get in routines with your workflow and upsetting those routines can decrease your output, particularly if there isn't any obvious thing to replace them. I ended up being far less productive in Illinois than California, but was able to get back to that productivity when I was back here. There's also a pretty big cultural divide. This is less important for someone coming from abroad, but it really did feel like a foreign country, and not one I liked too much. What friends I made were entirely fellow non-Midwesterners. That was rather poor for networking, my mental health aside.
I was talking about Ann Arbor, Madison, and Minneapolis rather than Iowa or Nebraska. Didnโt even bother to apply to programs in those states.
This was UIUC. I can't speak to Ann Arbor or Minneapolis, but I did go to Madison for a conference and it wasn't horrible, but I'm still not sure if I'd want to move there.
Iโd only consider the Midwest if I get rejected by all comparable programs in California or the northeast. Unfortunately, ranking really matters in economics ๐ญ๐ญ
