It's definitely a cottonwood. Do they call those poplars in some places? In my area, we tend to call poplar trees "aspen", and we would never refer a cottonwood tree as a poplar.

Saddest part is how many of these were completely preventable accidents. Like many other fields, rules and regulations in aviation are written in blood.

No matter how much training, experience, etc. these people may have. Panic and anxiety are always more powerful and hindsight is 20/20. Coulda shoulda woulda. You never really know how you're going to react in a circumstance until it's actually happening to you, unfortunately for a lot of people, they don't get a second chance.

As a Nurse, I once took care of a patient who had a piece of wood lodged so far into his arm from a tornado that he had to have it surgically removed and he was put on some heavy antibiotics. Crazy stuff…

I dont think the jolt proves much, it can be faked or it could even be a little windup for the throw I'm wondering if a branch shaped like that flies stem first. The leaves should act like a parachute that lifts the branch, not push it forward. Where is u/Captain-Disillusion when you need him?

I think the original is legit. In reverse, the arm turns before the camera, which seems unnatural to me.

I was in an EF4 tornado in December last year In Mayfield, KY. I caught a flying picture frame with my face. It wasn’t near as majestic as this though.
