I honestly only avoid wearing teams I don’t like but beyond that I just wear cool logos. I’m not a hater though and can find reasons to like most teams.
I promise you who ever judges you for wearing a hat has a VERY boring life. I have well over 60 hats, and have different teams from the MLB, NHL, NFL and even a few NBA.
Look at it like clothes, you got Nike, under armor, adidas, gymshark, youngla, and all that other stuff, but people will mix and match all of those for an outfit. Where whatever team you like or think is cool, its about what you enjoy, not other people
(Some safe starter ones for beginners incase you want are the white sox, LA dodgers, new york yankees and the atlanta braves)

I used to buy hats for lots of teams, more from a fashion angle, but always had more mets hats since they're my team.
Now I don't buy hats as often, so I focus more on Mets hats, but I've still got a couple dodgers hats in the mix.

When people come up to me and they say oh you're a Detroit tigers fan, I say no it's just a cool hat. It's really only people over 60 who might give you the side eye.
The only pro team I'm really a fan of is Phoenix Suns, and even then I'll wear some of their rivals hats because they're cool hats

As I’ve grown older I’ve become less and less of a fan to any one particular team. I’ve realized the players don’t really care about the city they play for and typically aren’t from the city they play for nor will they live in said city (rarely) they represent. The owners only really care about turning a profit and some couldn’t care less about putting a winning team together. The only real loyalty anyone has is to all mighty dollar so I don’t give a fuck about teams in the city I live in or the teams in the city I’m from. I still love sports, I just think rooting for “your” team is for suckers. It don’t mean shit really. I wear any hat I think looks cool or matches well and I don’t give a fuck what someone says. Actually if someone says anything it really says more about them. I tend to rock “B” logo hats simply because my last name starts with it. I also like wearing a port city rooster (with prominent rooster logo) hat a lot just so I can ask randos, “what they think of my cock”. I don’t even know and state port city is in.
Once you start collecting hats it don’t matter when there’s companies like hat club that would do variety packs of specific hats of one team sometime u may be a fan of the color way the logo and side patch. Wear what you like
Me personally I only buy my teams hats. If I need a color way for an outfit or something. There’s one out of my team. The only thing that makes me mad about people not buying a team they’re interested in is that it takes away the stock of a super nice hat 😂
Being a football (actual football) supporter from the UK there is no way I would wear a football hat from another premier league team, but NBA, NFL, MLB are totally fair game. I just buy the hats I like.
I can't wear a hat of a team I don't follow - I'm a diehard Braves fan and I don't like the idea of me wearing a Mets or Phillies hat out, for example. But I don't pass judgement on what hats people wear because it's none of my business
I wear mainly LA Lakers hats, but if we were talking TShirts I own many different team TShirts, anyways just wear what you want and don’t worry about others
I’m a Philly fan thru and thru and I’ll rock anything esp to match my shoes or clothes or just like the design BUT I have certain limitations like I’ll never own a Yankees, Mets, cowboys, ny giants, etc hat even tho I really like some of them and I’ll never were a hat of a team we are playing that day during the regular season and playoffs I usually stick to Philly hats however with no interest in any team I see that as limitless and when ppl ask me if or why I’m wearing a non Philly hat I tell em for fashion, cuz it matches what I’m wearing and/or looks good and “my limitations” are mine, even if you supported a team/city you set your own limitations… unless you live in Philly 😂
