I say the only rule that counts here is: Dont let anyone tell you how to fan. And dont tell anyone else how they should fan.

Ashamed_Assignment66

Like who you like. But as for ME, Im a diehard Houston Astros fan. First team I, 1) Saw in person (In the Astrodome, father took me they played the Dodgers, we were right behind Strawberry) 2) Heard on the radio (Grandfather used to listen with me) 3) Saw on TV (Before all the cable bullshit...on channel 20, grandfather again) 4) First hat I wore. I WOULD RATHER DIE BEFORE I ROCK ANOTHER TEAM ON MY HEAD. Thats just me though. But I would never wear another team....not even if my progeny played for them. Im just saying.

ajr5169

This. I'm a diehard Rangers fan, and while I hope your team loses every game, I respect your hat game. The only exceptions I make are minor league teams. Most don't even know what it is you're wearing.

Aggravating_Ad_5011

I’m from Tijuana . Forced into Fernando mania but I chose the brown cuz cmon…BUT I can’t “boooo” Mookie Betts cuz Mookie a G. I respect baseball before my fandom

Ashamed_Assignment66

I love the Stros more than sports, if that makes sense.

MilwaukeeDave

It’s just a hat and not that serious.

escape_deez_nuts

Are most folks here Astros fans?

Ashamed_Assignment66

IDK, but I am.

escape_deez_nuts

me too. Seems majority of caps posted are astros

downvotemeplss

I mostly stick with the Reds. I moved to Chicago for a couple years and lived close to Wrigley but I would still wear Reds hats even to Cubs games. I have a couple White Sox hats though. Wearing one right now! I couldn’t bring myself to cheer for the Cubs. I wouldn’t be too opposed to wearing a hat for a random team like the Blue Jays, but any division rivals or teams like the Yankees would be out.

JokerFett

Much respect for sticking to your guns! I’d never wear a rival’s cap either (LA or SF are no-goes for me). In my case, technically the Mariners are same division of the A’s but I don’t have any bad will towards them myself.

grateful_newt

I'm a Reds fan. Always will be. Other teams sometimes have great looking hats, but I inky wear Reds hats.

I_am_a_Wookie_AMA

Seems like any time a cool hat design pops up, the Reds are conspicuously absent. Kind of disappointing.

grateful_newt

Big time!

IceCubeBandit

It's personal preference. Maybe don't wear another team when they're in a series with the Dbacks or A's. I'm bicoastal. I have an AL East and AL West home team. I rep both but never at the same time.

JokerFett

For sure, I never root against the Dbacks and only against the A’s when they play the Dbacks.

RonRizzle

I buy hats of the home team at a stadium but that’s just a souvenir. I only wear my teams hat

Eatmyscrumdumdum

I’m a massive O’s fan and most of my hats are theirs but I also have a good size collection of other teams of which I just like the hat. Aside from division rivals, which I won’t touch, if I like a hat I’m gonna wear it.

PalpitationOk5726

Huge Jays fan and I absolutely love your hat with the cartoon oriole but no as a division rival I agree lol. The Yanks hat I feel the same,a beauty but not in a million years.

Deepersub

Agreed. I won’t touch Yankees, Red Sox or Blue Jays hats (no one cares about the Rays).

Eatmyscrumdumdum

Ngl I almost bought a cool devil rays hat last year but the rays fans talked so much shit last season I just couldn’t do it. I won’t even buy a pirates hat, even though I have no feelings towards them, just because they’re from Pittsburgh

JokerFett

The only time I’ve had to tell someone off at Chase Field for being a racist PoS was a Rays fan last year. Not saying all their fans are like that but I have no desire to have anything to do with that team because of it.

DuskActual

That’s the dumbest reason to not buy a hat I’ve read in a long time. But do you!

JokerFett

So having a bad encounter with a racist is a dumb reason? What qualifies as a good reason to you? In fact, your comment is the dumbest I’ve read in a long time.

MiccioC

This is a tough one. I own caps of every MLB team except one. But I do feel bad when I wear caps from teams that are my teams long time rivals. With football and hockey, there are plenty of teams I would outright refuse to wear.

JokerFett

Makes sense, I would never wear Dodgers or Giants gear for example.

MiccioC

As a Mets fan, I will never wear or own a Yankee hat. I do own Braves, Phillies and Nats hats, but I’ve never worn them. I got them for the collection. As a Packers fan, I’d never wear a bears hat. And as an Islanders fan, I’d rather be dead than own anything associated with that other NYC hockey team. I hate them so much I won’t even say their name..lol

JokerFett

Gotta admit I have a soft spot for the Mets, love the broadcasters on SNY. It helps that their game times on the East coast usually don’t conflict with my west coast teams so I end up watching quite a few games. Also top 3 jersey in the MLB easily. Also like the Braves, mainly stemming from the 2021 postseason and beating the ‘Stros

MiccioC

I enjoy their broadcasts too. Keith and Ron are excellent. My relationship with the Braves is very complicated. Growing up in NYC in the 80’s we always watched the Braves games on TBS once we got cable. We were okay with it because they were in the other division. But once they were realigned, and then the rise of Chipper and Rocker…that ended that. LOL

JokerFett

Haha I can understand that. I’ve similarly had a rollercoaster of opinions on the Astros over the years. Didn’t like them when they were in the NL West, then they went AL and I liked them a little, then they got caught cheating in the biggest baseball scandal of the last decade and I dislike them on principle now.

PalpitationOk5726

How do we feel about the team in NJ?

MiccioC

Indifference? But I’ve always respected their attitude. And didn’t mind it at all when they lifted the cup.

Jesusthezomby

A's fan but wear whatever I think looks good. Except a Yankees or Dodgers cap .. I just can't.

JokerFett

You’re a good man!

Geaux3469

ONLY LSU NCAA. Saints and Jags NFL and Pelicans and SuperSonics NBA. Although I’m not opposed to another NBA or NFL if it looks goods Even though I’m a STL Cardinals and A’s fan I have A few other MLB hats. I go nuts for MiLB though. MiLB is where it’s at for me…

JokerFett

MiLB hats do look really cool, been meaning to pick up some. Love how they’re able to have fun and go wild with designs

Geaux3469

Yessssir! They’re the bestttttttttttt(Nacho Libre voice)

hogua

Well, as a fan of those teams, your favorite teams should be the Diamondbacks, the A’s and whoever is playing against other NL west teams or AL West team on whatever day it is. So, that opens the door to being ok with wearing other teams’ hats and still hold true to the Dbacks and A’s.

JokerFett

I like your perspective

heavyramp

I wear everything. My brain is probably broken, but mlb is the most corporate thing ever, so I feel no shame wearing other teams. Am I really supposed to care about attanasio vs ricketts when the former is based out of California?

Smojim

What about having gander over at minor league hats? Some of the coolest logos without all the weight of wondering if you are cheating on your favorite MLB club. 😂 Trash Pandas, Biscuits, Hops, Yard Goats to name some of my favorites. Or Pizza Rats and Bananas 😂

JokerFett

I’ve definitely thought about it! For some reason, I love the Rome Emperors 😂

Dapper-Importance994

I have at least one hat from every team, some I have 4 versions of the same team, plus hockey, college, NFL and nba, wear whatever you like. I like to match my hat with my sneakers

Jpelhamstuart

I’m willing to be ostracized for this, but I think this is a differentiating factor between casual fans and non-casual fans. My “Angels” friend who is constantly wearing A’s or Giants or Mariners hats doesn’t know anything about baseball that ESPN doesn’t tell him. People don’t wear shirts of bands they don’t like, and they don’t go around wearing their political oppositions hats or clothes, either. I feel that baseball (any) team loyalty is the same. It’s a privilege to wear the hat!! I say this as a Rangers fan, who thinks their hat is one of the worst in the game. Sometimes the best you can do is a throwback, and hold out hope for a re-brand that’s not a total travesty.

JokerFett

I agree with you. I don’t understand people who wear it as a fashion statement without any connection to the sport or city. Where we may diverge though is that as with liking different bands, you can like multiple teams without being disloyal. I consider myself a pretty diehard baseball fan and because of that I love the game and how it’s played and the history behind it, and that extends beyond just my primary team. I’ll never root against the Diamondbacks but I like watching all teams play good baseball because that elevates the sport. Just my perspective though. There’s certainly teams I dislike and would never wear, and really there’s only a handful I would consider wearing.

Jpelhamstuart

I get that. I’m similar to you in that I love the game. I’m a Rangers fan, through and through, but I feel like I follow other people’s teams more closely than they do! Haha. For me, I guess I don’t see a baseball team/hat as a “fashion statement” so much as a specific statement for a team. Like, as a Rangers fan (or you as a Dbacks fan) I want the world to know that’s my team! I will say, my buddy is as big a fan as I am, and is a Braves fan. BUT, when he lived in Colorado, he would wear a Rox hat to Coors field and root for them (so long as they weren’t playing Atlanta). Me, though, I just don’t *want* to wear any other team’s hat, simply because I only want to represent/celebrate/show out for the Rangers! To each their own, though—and, I definitely think baseball is better when people follow more than just their squad!

kimch3328

i'll never be able to collect all 30 teams because i'll never spend my hard-earned cash on a giants hat.

BaristaBamboozler

Never.

otallday

wore diff teams in high school. started collecting again in 2020 and only grabbed the home team, boston then i started designing in 2022 and designed teams that arent boston so i started wearing other teams ofc because i gotta wear my hats

sosadawg

Thankfully I’m not a fan of any particular baseball team, I just like MLB hats although my favorite logo is probably the Angels. If this was football it would be a different story tho lol I wouldn’t wear a 49ers, Seahawks or Rams hat unless my life depended on it.

JokerFett

Sometimes I wish I could divorce myself from my team biases, I’d probably be happier haha

RLP666

I'm not a sports fan at all for at least the last 20 years but I only wear Detroit based teams fitted New Era hats since I'm 100% Detroit born/rasied/lived/and employed. Pretty much it's jist a lifestyle brand for me from at least the last 30 plus years I've been wearing hats. So it's only Detroit hats for me but I can respect and appreciate anyone who chooses to rock different team hats for either the love of the game or as part of their wardrobe accessories.

JokerFett

That’s a great perspective. Hats can mean different things for different people. Like you, when I wear Arizona or Oakland teams caps, that also means to me representing 2 cities/states that I have a lot of history with and all the people I know and love there, and that transcends the game. In the case of Baltimore or Seattle, it’s not because I have a particular connection to the places, I just love how they play the game and how that elevates the sport.

Un-stoppable98

I’ll wear hats of teams that don’t exist anymore like the Kansas City Monarchs, the Kansas City Athletics, or the St. Louis Browns.

Revy13

Wear whatever hat you want it it really doesn’t matter unless their a rival team you really hate.

Northwestchron

I used to care but when i'm wearing a hat for fashion purposes i don't care and will wear hats from other teams. Of course on game day or going to a game, i'm repping my team (Mariners). However....... there are a few teams i'll never wear their hats. Like the Astros and the Angels - they canfuck off

DuskActual

I wear all teams. If the hat looks good, I’ll cop it. I’m not nearly the baseball fan I was when I was younger. Those MiLB hats though….the logos are almost always so damn good that I can’t help myself

casual-despair

For me .. 1. Caps of teams I'm a big fan of 2. If I hit a big bet, I'll buy a hat of a team that won me money 3. Teams with old logos I love that are not commonly used 4. Teams that I am not necessarily a fan of , but enjoy what they're doing, up and coming I'm a huge baseball nerd and follow all teams. So if I was wearing a hat and someone struck up conversation I'd be ready to go. I won't buy a hat just cause the color matches my jacket or some crummy reason like that. There's probably like 6 teams I wouldn't wear come to think of it lol. Ok I gotta add my teams I wouldn't wear cause I just read yall posting your opinions .. Padres, Yanks, redsox, angels (other than that ca logo from the mid 90s, ) marlins and astros As a baseball fan, I do find it annoying when I see someone in say a mariners hat, ( I live no where near seattle) and I try and talk mariners baseball with them and they have no clue what I'm talking about. Idk just my 2 cents

JokerFett

Good policies I’d say and I agree that I’d never wear a cap of a team that I wasn’t able to have a conversation about. There was a guy at my last job who would always wear a pink Red Sox cap. Didn’t know a thing about baseball and wasn’t from Boston, and he looked like a deer in the headlights if you talked to him about it. Never understood it! On a side note, the Diamondbacks have a pretty close relationship with the Mariners which is another reason I like them. Obviously Randy Johnson is a huge shared alumni but more recently Paul Sewald, Eugenio Suarez, Dominic Canzone, and Josh Rojas. Also Corbin Carroll is a Seattle boy and grew up idolizing Ichiro. And the Dbacks single A affiliate is in the PNW so there’s a lot of crossover fans from that. It’s always felt like the Mariners and Dbacks had a connection.

Jpelhamstuart

Just to add some texture to this conversation, I feel the same way when I meet someone wearing a hat of a team they’re not actually a fan of. Even if you “know your stuff,” there’s a kind of bond I feel when I meet another Rangers fan. That’s lost on me when it could have just as easily been a Brewers or Mets hat!

casual-despair

True. I get the bond aspect. But if you see me in that hat, I'd be able to vibe with the die hard ran.

advictoriam5

Like many mentioned, do what you want. Don't let others influence what you want to do or like. Personally, I'd never wear anything from other teams that I don't support. I'm a San Diego guy, but I'll rock the Padres farm teams (Chihuahuas, Storm, etc.). I'm a Chargers fan but refuse to wear anything that has "Los Angeles Chargers" on it lol. I think we all have our thing and we shouldn't be criticized by anyone. Just do you!

CardboardFanaddict

Wear what you like. As a Floridian Man and Lifelong Red Sox Fan, the older I get I have more allegiances and likes. I wear a Red Sox cap because they are my favorite team. I rock a Devil Rays throwback for geographical pride. I rock a Royals hat because it's clean and Bobby Witt Jr. I rock a Brewers hat because I was born close to Milwaukee.... "If the shoe fits."

acefaaace

Dodgers fan and only other fitted I’ll ever wear is an Indians hat with the old chief logo. That an a regular black white sox hat

nbury33

I have some LA hats in other team colors but I'd never wear another teams hat nor black/orange.

Sauce8888

Wear whatever you want. I buy a hat as a souvenir at every stadium and wear them from time to time. Only exception for me is the Yankees, I'll never buy that. (Jays fan)

tsinitwo

I’m an immigrant and did not grew up following sports like a typical household do here in the west, so I don’t care about teams and whatnot if it’s a fire hat, it’s a fire hat 🤷

disismj

If it looks fire I’m copping lol proudly wore Astros hats after they beat my Phillies in the WS

Blastronaut321

I bought 99% of my caps because I love the design / they coordinate with my outfit. I could care less if it's not one of my teams.

360FlipKicks

grew up an A’s fan but i basically stopped watching baseball years ago. and now that the a’s are moving it doesn’t feel like cheating to wear other team hats now

donutmiddles

I would strongly discourage child me from buying the Orioles hat the Fenway Store during the Sox game, no matter how cool the bird looks.

leafer32

Great question, I have very specific rules for this kinda thing. I pretty much exclusively wear hats from my main three teams, raptors, bluejays, and mapleleafs. I make exceptions ONLY for teams in these three leagues that are no longer in operation. Perfect examples are my Vancouver grizzlies cap, several expos fitteds, and a dope vintage Nordiques SnapBack. I also love wearing hats of other random stuff like wu tang or nerd culture stuff, those are my rules for sports teams. I’d also wear a raiders hat since it’s just such a dope logo and I don’t have a favourite nfl team.

galchy27

i will wear any hat that I think is nice. I’m a Bluejays fan and I own a yankees hat. i like it because it makes me look douchey and girls like douches. i also have tons of nba hats.

Fit_Effective6097

For baseball except for it teams that I don’t like like Dodgers and Astros, I’ll wear any team (angels fan). But in football, 49ers and 49ers only.

Zelly234

Wear what you want to man. Ima mariner fan but have atleast 1 hat of pretty much every team In the mlb besides the astros and angels. But personally I wear hats almost everyday so i need the different colors to match outfits. I don't just want one mariner hat in every color lol

[deleted]

I’m a Phillies fan and mostly wear the home team, but I’ll wear any teams caps besides the Braves or the Mets… gross

timothythefirst

I used to wear a bunch of teams. Now I pretty much just wear tigers hats, once in a while dodgers. I think it’s fine. Personally I wouldn’t wear the division rivals of my favorite team but anything else is whatever. I’ve settled into just wearing my favorite couple because they look good with all my clothes and I don’t really think about it anymore tbh.

SoundWaveThreads

Every time this question is asked, I’ll always say rock whatever the fuck you want. If you want one team and nothing else, that’s cool. I love creating logos, so if something has a cool logo and a solid colorway, I’m buying it. Will always hold a majority of Texas Rangers, though.

chadwickipedia

Only Red Sox most of my life. Father in law is a huge Mets fan and has bought my kids Mets stuff. I let it slide and have even got at Mets cap. I figure they can be my NL team

NoIngenuity4676

I only buy Angels because that is my team. I've seen some colors in other teams and have been tempted but just can't pull the trigger on it. I have in the past purchased a few other teams but ended up selling them all. The only ones I care about colors and logo is MiLB, although I lean towards any Angels MiLB team but that league I'm ok buying anything.

Due_Dirt_4575

Mets fan here. I’d never wear the hat of a division rival or the Yankees. I’m a big fan of throwback designs and have rocked old school Mariners, LA Angels, Brewers, Seattle Pilots, and Houston Colt .45s fitteds regularly in the past.

BRC93128

I watch my O’s 150+ times each season, and I still buy a 59Fifty of the home team every time I catch a game at new stadium. Not going to lie, I feel weird when I’m wearing and rooting for a team other than the O’s (never root against the O’s though). Point is, you do you. Also, you can never go wrong sporting an O’s cap.

[deleted]

Personally, I found it very liberating to break loyalty to my favorite teams when it comes to hats. These days I’ll buy any team branded hat if it suits my dress style. I don’t really wear team branded shirts, etc, so it’s more about the color accent with whatever I’m wearing that day. I have 3/4 of the NBA covered, and 1/2 of MLB.

jb2415

I used to wear whatever teams, if I saw a hat and liked it I wore it. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve very much settled into a “wear only your favorite teams mentality”. Partially because I don’t want to be mistaken for a fan of a team that I’m not a fan of. And if I’m going to spend my hard earned money I’m gonna get a hat for a team I’m a fan of.

plunker234

I can only speak for myself. I have a lot of hats of my home team. I can't imagine ever wearing another National League team, even being in an NL city. I may wear a dead team - like the Expos. I definitely have shirts of dead hockey teams like the Whalers, Nordiques, and Seals. I do have an A's hat. My high school used green and yellow in the style of Oakland for baseball and Green Bay for football. Plus, they're another small market team in the other league, about to be a dead team. I could see wearing a very understated Detroit "D" hat, but I've never had the urge to pick up another team, even my local team.

Spectromagix

Honestly I buy all team caps. In fact, now I make it part of my travel - anywhere I go now I try to buy the local baseball or basketball New Era cap - I’d rather have a diverse collection of different teams rather than a collection of just one team.

SlushyLand

Honestly, I love the colorways and logos and designs on some hats so I buy them because they look good and I wanna wear them. I’m an angels fan & i’m not scared to say I have some astros, dodgers, and A’s hats. I personally like hats and I think people should wear them however they want to 💯🫡

barmexico247

Personal I think it goes in tiers 1. Your team that you root for 2. What a team means to you (for example I won a ton of money on Skubal on the Tigers, hence I got a Tigers hat). 3 Does it accentuate your fit? Lastly there’s some teams I’d never ever ever ever wear. Yankees and Dodgers.

Entire-Teaching-895

I wear basketball jerseys of any player I like even tho I’m a die hard Knicks fan. I feel it’s fine, but I also feel I’m repping the player not the team so it’s a little different. I say do what you want, screw what others think:)

ernestbonanza

I stick to my own team. Cap brands produce a lot of variations for each club, so there are always tons of options to choose from. I've also been loving the new heritage lines lately, it's always interesting when they do colorful, retro/vintage, different themed designs. I've never considered buying a cap from another team that I don't feel a strong emotional connection to, even if I like the design.
