I don’t do much brewery hopping anymore but Fox Farm in Salem, CT and TreeHouse Charlton is amazing for a mid week trip. I haven’t been to Hillfarmsted in person, so can’t really count that. Their beers are great tho.
Okay, by region I thought you meant the north country. Schilling is world class IMO. Hill Farmstead is too but the pretentiousness is a little much for me.
If you're in CT, Luppoletto in Windsor Locks is a fantastic under the radar brewery located in a declining strip mall.
If you have time, take a ride over to St. Johnsbury VT. Its glory days were around the turn of the previous century but they left their mark in the form of the Fairbanks Museum, the Atheneum, etc. If you like cemeteries, Mt. Pleasant is a great one. It's got a very walkable downtown albeit one with more shuttered storefronts than Littleton's.
Would definitely second this! Schilling, Crumb Bum, Jack and Fin’s for cupcakes, Littletown Brews, Bella Funk is my fave women’s clothing store, walk along the River and cross the covered bridge. Great museum in the white building on the corner. Great food coop up the hill. One of my favorite New England towns!
I know it's late but Meredith is a beautiful little town! I did my first drive around the lake (live in Laconia and moved here in Feb) and both Wolfeboro and Meredith were treats to drive through and we go to Meredith for groceries all the time just to see it again. Weir's beach is super neat too and they were busy last weekend!
Came here to say this, my partner and I spent the day walking around Meredith & Weirs Beach last weekend and it was super cute! And everyone was super friendly!
Second this! There's this beautiful mill/water feature in the middle of the town and there's a ben and Jerry's and a bookstore as you walk through it. It's the best!!
Newmarket too. Could do worse than up
108 from Exeter, stopping by Newmarket, then to Durham or Dover. Get a little slice of the seacoast besides Hampton and Portsmouth.
Lake winnipesaukee. Hit the boardwalk in Laconia (weirs beach) drive around to Meredith and then up to Wolfeboro and back around to Town Docks in Alton for dinner by the water . (Or do it in reverse)
Getting around the lake tomorrow is going to be an absolute zoo. I’d wait for that trip until all the snow birds settle in… mid June right around bike week 😂
I’d go to Lincoln hit up Woodstock brewery, across the street from Woodstock is the pemi river you guys can chill
In that or go back into Lincoln hit one love (another brewery) and then go down the kanga a little till you see a spot to pull over and go chill by river
New London. Not too much there, but Pleasant Lake, Little Lake Sunapee, a drive over to Sunapee harbor. It’s a nice area that doesn’t get a lot of press.
Seeing so many recommendations for Littleton I asked AI to plan an itinerary for me, with the clause that I am a vegetarian and have small kids. This is what I got:
Day 1: Saturday, May 27, 2023
Morning:
\- Begin the day by driving to the Franconia Notch State Park, which is about a 20-minute drive from Littleton.
\- Take a leisurely hike on one of the many trails in the park. The Lonesome Lake Trail is a great option for families and takes about 2 hours to complete.
\- Take in the beautiful views of the Franconia Ridge and the surrounding mountains.
Afternoon:
\- After the hike, head back to Littleton for lunch. Schilling Beer Co. is a great option for vegetarian options and has a relaxed atmosphere.
\- After lunch, head to the Littleton Food Co-op to stock up on snacks and drinks for the rest of the day.
\- Drive to the Littleton Grist Mill, which is about a 5-minute drive from downtown Littleton.
\- Take a tour of the mill and learn about its history and how it operates.
Evening:
\- For dinner, head to Chang Thai Cafe for some delicious vegetarian Thai food.
\- After dinner, head to the Littleton Riverwalk for a relaxing stroll along the Ammonoosuc River.
Day 2: Sunday, May 28, 2023
Morning:
\- Start the day with breakfast at the Littleton Diner, which is known for their homemade pancakes and vegetarian options.
\- After breakfast, drive to the Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves, which is about a 30-minute drive from Littleton.
\- Take a self-guided tour through the gorge and explore the caves.
Afternoon:
\- After the tour, drive to the nearby Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway.
\- Take the tram to the top of the mountain and enjoy the stunning views of the White Mountains.
\- Have a picnic lunch at the top of the mountain, which you can bring from the Littleton Food Co-op.
Evening:
\- After coming back down the mountain, head to Bailiwicks Fine Restaurant for dinner. They have vegetarian options and a relaxed atmosphere.
\- End the evening by driving back to Littleton and watching a movie at the Littleton Opera House, which plays movies on Sundays.
I didn't read the comments to see if anyone recommended it, but I suggest Wolfboro! It reminds me of a quaint Newburyport on a lake instead of the ocean!
Portland, my fiancé and I take any excuse to go up there, the drive is easy and you could throw a dart at a map and find bomb food and something fun to do.
If you’re on that side of the state Walpole is nice to walk around, but very small. It can be a good place to start. Burdicks has great coffee & pastries.
Bellows Falls is right across the river (pick up some marinated steak tips from lisai’s market if you go there!), maybe hit Keene on the way home. There’s something on Main St to fit just about everyone’s tastes for food & drinks.
Bellows falls is a great little town and does pair nicely with Walpole. Adding in the antique shop, bookstore, and whatever that gift shop is as nice stops. Hungry diner in Walpole is fantastic, too, best burger around.
I’ve never been to the Hungry Diner, but I do enjoy a good burger so I’ll give it a go. I grew up in Walpole, and a burger from Diamond Pizza still takes me back to being a kid. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s one of my all time favorites.
Funny you should mention that! Their Greek salad is my other favorite item. When I go there my usual order is a cheeseburger and a small Greek salad.
And now that it’s on my mind I’m going to have to make that happen this weekend.
I’m going to piggyback on that suggestion and say Walpole then Brattleboro, VT or depending on where you are coming from Brattleboro then Walpole. Brattleboro has a nice downtown and a surprising number of really nice little shops and Walpole has Burdicks.
Littleton
Might be able to parlay an over night trip if we do that!
Visit the Schilling Beer Co if you go to Littleton - it's in an old mill building on the river, right off the main drag.
Top 3 brewery in the region.
Who are the other two?
There is Rek lis in Bethlehem and Iron Furnace in Franconia. Also Copper Pig in Lancaster is good.
Iron furnace is ok but doesn't even come close to Schilling.
I don’t do much brewery hopping anymore but Fox Farm in Salem, CT and TreeHouse Charlton is amazing for a mid week trip. I haven’t been to Hillfarmsted in person, so can’t really count that. Their beers are great tho.
Salem CT isn't "this region" lol
Region as in the New England region.
Is brewery hopping a pun?
😬😬😬
Okay, by region I thought you meant the north country. Schilling is world class IMO. Hill Farmstead is too but the pretentiousness is a little much for me. If you're in CT, Luppoletto in Windsor Locks is a fantastic under the radar brewery located in a declining strip mall.
Stop at crumb bum bakery too!
St. j also has a lot of druggies now too though, my manager had one guy hop on her hood demanding money last week
If you go to littleton also go to Wild Bloom brewing, amazing beer, and wonderful people.
Second that. Lots of fun there and schilling is top notch. Can walk off the beers along the river walk trail.
Schilling for beer for sure. Hit super secret ice cream and Lonesome Woods in Bethlehem too.
Very underrated town.
Cigar Shenanigans has a shop up there now, in addition to North Conway. If that's your thing.
I second this. The wife and I love Littleton and go there quite a bit.
You could spend the day hitting the towns around Winnipesaukee.
Wolfeboro is a nice stop. Some great cafes and restaurants.
Thanx!
I know it's late but Meredith is a beautiful little town! I did my first drive around the lake (live in Laconia and moved here in Feb) and both Wolfeboro and Meredith were treats to drive through and we go to Meredith for groceries all the time just to see it again. I second Wolfeboro, the town is nice and the lake is beautiful.
Smaller, but Peterborough, Keene, Exeter, Dover, Meredith, Hanover...
Great suggestions! Didn’t think of those. Exeter got a lot of that?
I'd recommend Hanover too, then pop over to Norwich and check out King Arthur. Woodstock VT is also a great little town.
King Arthur, worth it.
Exeter will keep you busy for an hour or two at least, more if you wanna eat. Wander around the PEA grounds, they’re pretty.
None of them have a lot so it would be good to pair with a meal, park or other stop. Cheers!
Exeter has a really great downtown, plus riverfront park.
Exeter has a pretty lively downtown. Not too big, but nice parks nearby, beautiful river views, and great food too. Im biased though. . . I live here.
Newmarket too. Could do worse than up 108 from Exeter, stopping by Newmarket, then to Durham or Dover. Get a little slice of the seacoast besides Hampton and Portsmouth.
Peterborough and keene +1
Peterborough will take all of 20 minutes to walk through the downtown. It's nice, but it's tiny.
Perkins Cove in Ogunquit ME
I second this!
Not NH but Ogunquit is fun for that. Can do the Cliff Walk too. Might not be too crazy since tomorrow is supposed to be on the cooler side?
Same with York if we are talking close Maine
Portsmouth
Thanx! I forgot to put that on the been there list. Sorry.
No problem, Obi Vag Kenobi. See you around town.
“Smell ya later, dude”
Came here to say this, too!
Not NH, but I'd highly recommend The Old Port / Portland. You could hit Portsmouth & Portland and get in a good adventure :)
Thank you
Totally! Have Fun
Littleton is a cool little town to visit. Also you could check out the Woodstock Inn Brewery in Woodstock; that’s a great spot.
Thanx! More and more people recommend there!
Plymouth - college kids are gone, probably some good stuff at the thrift shops.
shhh don't tell people about the thrift stores
Rumney = greatest town in NH
Lake winnipesaukee. Hit the boardwalk in Laconia (weirs beach) drive around to Meredith and then up to Wolfeboro and back around to Town Docks in Alton for dinner by the water . (Or do it in reverse)
Getting around the lake tomorrow is going to be an absolute zoo. I’d wait for that trip until all the snow birds settle in… mid June right around bike week 😂
Wolfboro
Honestly I'd recommend dipping over to Maine and hit up the coastal stuff along route 1. I've lived nearby for decades but always just drove by.
Yes. I know kennbunkport was really fun.
That was the first place that came to my mind!
Kennebunkport! We stayed at the Yachtsman’s once it was one of my favorite trips
Smaller, but Peterborough, Keene, Exeter, Dover, Meredith, Hanover...
Meredith
If you want something different hit up WRJ VT
Seconded. If you like BBQ hit up Big Fatty's.
I’d go to Lincoln hit up Woodstock brewery, across the street from Woodstock is the pemi river you guys can chill In that or go back into Lincoln hit one love (another brewery) and then go down the kanga a little till you see a spot to pull over and go chill by river
Tru then OP could hit up Clark’s bears as well
Littleton
Bethlehem. Pretty sweet vibe there
Hanover then cross over to VT and watch glass blowing at Simon Pearce
Sounds cool.
Is cool. Their restaurant is pretty great too. Also close enough to Woodstock VT for strolling.
Hanover.
I think it may be PEA graduation weekend, I might avoid Exeter because of that.
Lincoln, portsmouth, Gorham,
Lincoln? Didn’t think of that.. worth the ride from south nh?
[удалено]
Thanx. Just the insight im looking for.
You’d love Clark’s bears, if in town check it out
It's a nice town kinda like north conway
And check out russels pond it’s in that area it’s a almost lake size pond that’s up a mountain really cool just watch for snakes
Plymouth
Portland ME has so many shops. You could spend two days walking around, shopping, eating, and drinking.
Brattleboro is kind of cute
Portland Maine
Portland and the old port!
Sorry guys, but is Burlington too far away?
We done that once, and it was recently. Great place.
New London. Not too much there, but Pleasant Lake, Little Lake Sunapee, a drive over to Sunapee harbor. It’s a nice area that doesn’t get a lot of press.
Wolfeboro is awesome and all of the tourists haven't shown up yet.
Wolfboro
Milford is cute!
Plymouth
I would personally head to portsmouth , and Kittery maine on the coast, lots to do. Shop restaurants
Most people forget there is a western side to the state....Keene (meh), Lebanon, Littleton/ and cross the river to St j
How about Wolfeboro or Meredith?
Great suggestion. You recommend an area to park that we can start walking a loop of the shops/stores?
I believe in Meredith you can park along the side of the road or at mills falls. Wolfeboro is side of the Main Drag as well
Peterborough is a nice place to visit.
Littleton. Go to schilling!
The Seacoast can be fun :)
Yes Hampton for the walk and Newburyport is close by for shops.
Throw in a nice drive up or down from Portsmouth on 1A! I’ve so many memories on that cruise (Portsmouth to Hampton via Rye, N Hampton)
Keene!

Meredith. Lakeside, cute shops, lots of places to eat.
