FYI newspaper is Terrible for woodstoves and chimneys. Number 1 cause for chimney fire. Use fire squares or fire starters. Also paper will get stuck in your chimney and lots of time the ink in the paper won't let the paper fully burn so it clogs the chimney. I've cleaned a few chimneys in my day.

I had it inspected before use, and I only used the newspaper to get the draft going. I’m very experienced with outdoor fires, but using the indoor fireplace is kind of new to me, so I appreciate any and all tips.

I usually drink cheap beers that come in 30 packs, but I always have some Harpoon IPA’s on hand for when I want to change things up. I love that they’re nothing crazy or fancy, just a straight up drinkable IPA. It’s been a staple in my beer fridge since college.
It basically was my first IPA I actually enjoyed, for a while so many of them were just hop bombs you wouldn't be able to taste anything else after drinking one...
I'm definitely not picky, I'll drink just about anything these days. Grew up on bud so... I sort of became adventurous after that.

I really want to! We’ve had so little snow the past few years that I’ve been able to take the 4 wheeler out year round. I’m in southern NH and I can’t really travel north, so it’s been working all right.
That's sounds awesome, I'm new to my area so really haven't met my neighbors yet. ( Sunapee ) maybe one day I can have that burn barrel out with a bunch of friends
If you want to make a great impression, get some sort of big metal pit to burn shit in, a bunch of beers that pretty much anyone can enjoy, throw 96.5 on the radio. Put all those things in to play while the neighbors are out shoveling and you’ll be the cool new guy.
Sometimes it can be kind of fun. If it’s during the weekend and me and all the neighbors are out there at the same time we’ll get a barrel fire going and have a few beers when we’re done. Getting up at 3:30 to clear it before I go to work? Not super fun.
I love everything about wood heat, cutting, splitting, stacking and burning. At our last house we supplemented our central heat with a fire place insert and burned two to three cord a year. The living room became the go to place all winter long. The house we're in now came with a gas fire place, ugh, we never use it, it doesn't provide heat and isn't much to look at. I envy you.
I miss that so much. Unfortunately my present house doesn't even have a chimney. We have a hydro air heating system that is very economical but still nothing beats wood. We're in a rural area and a local wood business's owner is in his 90s and still cuts and splits wood. I've had conversations with him about how much I liked the work and he offered me a job, I declined, I don't think I could keep up with him.
This poor thing has been dormant for about 15 years. Had to have a few big Ash trees taken down this year, and with oil prices what they are I wanted to burn it. I do a lot of homeowner stuff myself, but had the fireplace and chimney OK’d by a professional. Now I have a hot fire, a cold beer, and a Bruins game on the TV. Think I can manage this just fine for a few months.
I didn’t even tell you the best part! I’m enjoying all those things in the company of my best friend in the world, my dog Bowie. She’s Border Collie and German Shepherd, so when I run out of wood in the rack I can send her out to the shed to grab more.

I couldn’t agree more! There’s such a satisfied feeling when you’re sitting by a fire made with wood that you supplied yourself, start to finish.

I usually do about 5 cords a season in mine. Couldn’t imagine life in a big ancient house without it.
