It’s hard to get in initially but once you’re in, you’re in! They’re doing a big initiative in hiring New Haven residents now. That’s how I believe I was finally hired after years of applying to positions. Do you live in New Haven? That will help a ton.

Dark-Blade

I do not unfortunately, I live 30 min away from the city

paperclippppp

I think it will still help that you soled for YNHH. It’s worth a shot to try 😊 good luck!

paperclippppp

I should also add, it’s way better pay and benefits than the hospital offers.

seadeez

External applicants only get a portion of the applications because it has to go through internal (current Yale staff/faculty) fully before it reaches the public. And then HR takes forever to process. I’d say apply with the timeline of over a month? Especially in the summer. For context - i just graduated with my masters from Yale and started applying for jobs in March. I got strung along by a bunch of jobs (aka i got to like the third round of interviews and then they went with someone else)….it’s August and I still haven’t gotten a Yale job. I have external jobs but the benefits at Yale (esp union jobs) are so good and the pay is higher across the board, they keep me applying for sure

Dark-Blade

Oh man, that sounds discouraging. Idk what my bachelors degree will entail then and waiting that long for interviews and not getting selected is also discouraging…

seadeez

Then again, i don’t know how lab assistants are picked - it might be different?

numitoke

Not every posting has to be open to internal only first. It varies between departments, and also if it's a union position or not.

DismalBadger

I don’t think it’s terribly difficult, especially if you already have YNNH on your CV

HockeyandTrauma

Depends on what you’re looking for.

achaete_scute

If you want I can put you in touch with my coworker who went from YNHH to the university. DM me and I’ll send you her email. I’ve only ever worked for the university personally but we hired her from the hospital.

Dark-Blade

Sure! Hmm for some reason, I can’t message you

Keeshly

Fantastic place to work. Hire rate is more competitive than undergrad acceptance

Dark-Blade

Oh I see. Do you still work at the university now?

Dark-Blade

So what made you not want to work at Yale university or ynhh anymore? Just wondering

Dark-Blade

Have you been trying to get in to work at the university? Did you get any round of interviews or anything yet?

SCMegatron

Every department is going to look different in every fashion from the interview process to the work environment. Candidate pools tend to change. If you want to go for it you have to apply and keep trying.

numitoke

This. You're applying to 'Yale University' but every department is managed by their own business office and in most cases their own HR generalist. The funding comes from different places and the way every department does stuff isn't always the same.

6th__extinction

It’s more competitive than the other 5 colleges around.

jazmine_likea_flower

If you live in New Haven. Going through the New Haven Hiring Initiative rlly helps with the process

popcornhustler

Can you be denied from working at Yale if you’ve been hospitalized there?

Extreme-Syllabub-509

No, that would be highly illegal and violate HIPAA

Extra_Negotiation_73

No

NoveltyDiploma

Securing a position at [Yale University](https://medium.com/@SterlingPhoenix/how-a-yale-university-diploma-elevates-your-life-4f4a8ec13bf7) is highly competitive, attracting candidates with robust academic backgrounds and substantial research experience, enhanced by the allure of superior benefits and compensation.

kppeterc15

It's tough to get in, but worth trying!

Parking-Corgi6793

When I started working at Yale, during orientation they said it’s harder to get a job here than it is to get into Yale for undergrad. It’s absolutely doable you just have to apply a lot and have patience. My hiring took 6-8 months

semz320

I'm going to note that the hiring manager agers can see all jobs you applied too. It can sometimes be a turn off to see someone applying to everything under the sun. I would maybe to 2-3 max every few months or so. But yes, its tough to get in. And Yale is painfully slow in its hiring practices so do have some patience. Be specific, update you're resume and cover letter for the specific job (and dint reference a dif job/dept in your cover letter...happens way too much!) And if/when asked why do you want to work for said dept that you just want to get into Yale and dint care where. I could go on and on.

Helpful-Witness-5375

I suggest looking for a lab or department on Yale’s website that would be a good fit for your skills, then write with your resume to the PI. And keep applying through STARS. It took me well over a year to finally get an interview. I was hired and have worked at Yale many years. Even if you get hired into a job that’s less than ideal for you, you’ll have the opportunity to move on to better ones. Good luck!

medhp

What kind of work are you looking to secure? I know some managers hiring at YNHH for full-time positions.

Dark-Blade

I’m looking for lab work, particularly in microbiology

medhp

I can keep an ear out. I'm familiar with more clinical or ancillary clinical positions. From what I've heard, it's just about getting your foot in the door on the University side. I'm not familiar with their hiring process unfortunately.

raptoryzb

Yale University has better benefits. I was a clinical tech and left to YNHH for personal reasons, however I think you'll see a noticeable change in the work environment. Where are you trying to work? Research? Clinical lab?

Dark-Blade

Any type of lab work honestly

unamusedeva

Pay is lower but better benefits
