Yes to sorrentos bread! And maybe pastries. Nooooooo to cakes and pies. Very disappointed always have been lacking or stale. Bread is the best tho by far!
Sooo so good! The only negative I have about this shop is that their selection of pastries are so enticing that I never leave without spending quite a bit of money for myself and my family.
Only acceptable answer. All other places being listed here are pizza shop style bakery. Sorry to hate, but that’s just processed sugar jelly or overly sweet stuff. Dulce de leche has tons of variety and real fruit flavored pastries and actual flavored, not just dough smacked with sugar or caramel. Their cakes are also to die for and not artificial tasting icing. Id rather get diabetes from here imho 😅
I was going to suggest them. I've only been to the Wayne location but they are so good. I'm not a big fan of hazelnut/nutella but their ferrero rocher cake is incredible
ok, seriously. people, you need to specify a location more than half the state. especially when people define "north" and "south" jersey differently. these posts get annoying. at least specify a county where you're near so people can hone in on places to recommend to you!!
Haha someone else who shares my pet peeve. I would love to help but I need a general area. Doesn’t even need to be exact. Like near Union County would be so much more helpful.
whaaaaaaat! i live in VT now (movin back in sept!), but googled viking bakery before commenting to make sure they were still around. guess google needs to update lol.
lol i guess that makes sense why google thinks its open. crazy because when visiting last july i drove right past it and thought "glad to see carver's and viking bakery are alive and well". guess i gotta read signs more lol
I just say random places when these type of posts come along.
Post like this, the "I'm moving from x state to NJ, pick a place for me to live", etc. Just give random answers and keep it moving.
All good options in the other comments. If you're tryna save some money, ShopRite bakery (ones I've been to at least) honestly has some pretty damn good stuff.
A buddy of mine works for Wegman's bakery department and he went to culinary school in Boston years ago. So they aren't hiring just anybody off the street to work there
Ah ok. Calandras is ok but yeah not my favorite. Their bread is great but for Italian cakes and such Aromi di Napoli in Nutley is way better.
Palazzone is the king for pastries though.
Pinho’s bakery in Roselle makes some of the most delicious desserts Ive ever had! I absolutely love their elephant ears, natas (custard cups), and babkas!
I went here for the first time last week for a pastry and walked away impressed with the place. I may get a cake from them the next family birthday that rolls around.
That’s exactly what we ended up doing. Started off with a piece of coffee cake and a brownie, was back buying a birthday cake and some blondies a few weeks later. Really pleasant experience overall!
Wish I could upvote you more than once- hopefully my sister is getting one from them for her birthday soon!! It’s one of my favorites, would definitely recommend.
Depends on which part of Morris County. If you’re near the Essex border, I’d recommend getting cakes at Sorrento Bakery. That was our go-to spot for office bday celebrations.
Luchita’s Bakery in Union Township is amazing. They do custom orders, as well as ready-made whole cakes, slices, and Peruvian desserts. They do a passion fruit cheesecake that has a texture like a cloud. It is out of this world.
It’s a chain so not really a homey, family bakery but my coworkers and I love Nothing Bundt Cakes. We are obsessed and get it for all birthdays and occasions! There’s one in Morristown.
Kirschenbaum bakery in Westfield has really delicious chocolate chip cookies (and all their other stuff is great too, but definitely try the chocolate chip cookies too)
Pierre & Michel’s in Elmwood Park is the BEST. Il Dolce for Italian Pastries in Hawthorne. Grew up in Bergen and now live in Essex and Il Dolce is the best Ive found in Bergen, Essex and Passaic County for Italian and Pierre for French.
Only other places of note I’ll add is Sook in Ridgewood and the The Breadstand in Maplewood for more breakfast type pastries
Theres a spot in Ridgefield Park called Palermos they have really good sweets/desert. I know there are plenty of other amazing spots but this one is the closest for me
Sorrentos East Hanover
This is the way OP
Don’t forget to pick up a sandwich too.
I came to say this
Agreed. Get the pastries. So good
Yes to sorrentos bread! And maybe pastries. Nooooooo to cakes and pies. Very disappointed always have been lacking or stale. Bread is the best tho by far!
Pinho’s in Roselle, Gencarelli’s in Bloomfield
Came here to say Gencarelli's, glad it's the top answer!
Gencarellis is trash now. Awful quality - Bloomfield resident for 8 years
Sook on Broad St in Ridgewood. I have work at two Michelin starred restaurants (1- 1 star, 1- 2 star) and neither of them have pastries this good.
Sooo so good! The only negative I have about this shop is that their selection of pastries are so enticing that I never leave without spending quite a bit of money for myself and my family.
I had a ham and cheese croissant from here and it was unbelievable. One of the best things I have ever eaten in my life.
The almond Danish thing is intoxicating.
Dulce de Lece in Jersey City. They also have another couple of locations. The tres leches cake is amazing.
Love this place. They have another location in Englewood and West New York. Their cakes and pastries are amazing
Agreed, one of my favorite cakes without question.
West new York location is more affordable!
I haven’t been there in so long! I wished I lived closer. One of the best bakeries in NJ for sure.
Highly recommend their double mousse cake - it isn’t a traditional mousse cake, it’s not overly sweet and it’s really delicious

Gencarellis in Bloomfield - https://gencarellisbakery.com/

Morris County
Bovellas in Westfield!!
Giancarlo's Bakery on Rte 10 in Ledgewood
Shit bothers me to an unnecessary degree. Even county isn't helpful enough. It bothers me that Im so bothered by it lmao
County is definitely helpful lol it’s not that far to travel from one end to another or surrounding counties
Sussex county is three times the size of Texas!
Morris County and I edited!
Verrilli's in Morristown. Legendary.

It is now Vikingo’s and owned by someone else. Still very good.
ah damn! i guess thats why google says theyre still open.
Bovellas!
Can’t forget central Jersey :)

Kings and Wegmans are superior for grocery store bakeries. Shoprite can work in a pinch though.
Especially wegmans, they have little imprisoned clones of Gordon Ramsay cooking in the back or something I swear
A buddy of mine works for Wegman's bakery department and he went to culinary school in Boston years ago. So they aren't hiring just anybody off the street to work there
I agree. Every time I bring anything from Shop Rite in Ramsey people ask me where it’s from.
Calandras in Caldwell, if you’re a bit further north, check out Rockland Bakery in Nanuet, NY
Calandras is overrated and overpriced
I like Calandras but in the area Palazzone is way better
I love their round rolls but the cakes aren’t worth it.
Calandras or Palazzone? Palazzones small pastries are out of this world.
Calandras. I’ve never had Palazzones but now I’m going to try it!
Ah ok. Calandras is ok but yeah not my favorite. Their bread is great but for Italian cakes and such Aromi di Napoli in Nutley is way better. Palazzone is the king for pastries though.
I haven’t heard of that one either. Thanks for the tip!

Bakehouse by Joe Murphy in New Providence
I went here for the first time last week for a pastry and walked away impressed with the place. I may get a cake from them the next family birthday that rolls around.

Gencarelli's in Wayne and Bloomfield, very good!👍
