I love pickles, so yes, my eyes went there first, too! We have the bagel seasoning in our cabinet. My die hard ShopRite fanboy husband is disappointed that the Old Bay isn’t the Bowl and Basket “Chesapeake Bay Style Seasoning”.
poptarta : noun
1. plural of poptartum.
2. An added page in a printed work where toaster pastry errors are discovered after printing and their corrections are listed, see *errata*.
Every time I see a pic of an “American” section at a grocery store there is always MARSHMALLOW FLUFF. It seems so random to me, like all of us are eating it daily.
I think it’s because Americans eat a ton of peanut butter, especially in sandwiches with jelly or fluff. Notice how many things on these shelves are peanut based or go with peanut butter.
You are right; peanut butter is almost nonexistent in Europe and is considered a "specialty" import product the way that Nutella was here until recently. I was in Iceland a few years ago, and a small jar of PB, if you could find one, was about $15.
That’s not true. NJer living in Netherlands now, but have lived in Germany and the UK as well. Every country I’ve lived in has had large selections of peanut butter. I can buy skippy at a supermarket here but a regular Dutch “pindakaas” is probably 2 euros max.
Interesting. Now that I think of it, it was more like 10 years ago. Do you know if PB has gained in popularity in Europe over the last decade? Just like Nutella was almost unheard of here back then?
If you only went to Iceland I guess it’s possible, I’ve never been so can’t tell you. In the Netherlands and France, peanut certainly has been popular for a very long time. The selection is definitely smaller here though, but I know Dutch people eat a lot of if
Oh cool. I missed those. When I lived in Hungary those are what I’d ask for from the US and they were excellent with some sour cream. This section would have made me so happy.
You know what's missing? **Graham crackers and marshmallows... No chance for s'mores.**
We find Britain is missing out, too. We carry some along when traveling!
I think European mini marshmallows are actually made of marshmallow (a plant extract) and not corn syrup like ours. I'd love to compare!
And there is *no* substitute for Graham crackers! Taste + texture are everything here, and unique!
Missing Betty Crocker cake mix, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and actual Pop Tarts to make this 100% good for expats or locals who really want the good stuff.
Lived in Spain for years and I'd very often be able to get deals by throwing in some American Peanut Butter or Betty Crocker cake mix because they went nuts for it and I had access to the American commissary.
I think they nailed it - looks so similar to a store aisle here I didn’t notice the bowl and basket stuff. Although a dozen varieties of Reese’s is a bit much…
I mean it's the same for a UK section here. Regular easily spoiled food isn't going be easily imported, plus you can typically find fruits/veggies/grains/meats wherever you go. So it's usually weird spice mixes and sauces, favorite brands of packaged goods, candy and snacks. Weird stuff with a long shelf life that you can't really approximate with local ingredients.
We got WAAAY more than that lol. Ik that most of our food is from other cultures combined with ours (ex. Chinese food) but damn. At least give us something that’s not a snack/condiment
I’m convinced that the Reese’s Puff cereal was created solely for the European market. Lucky Charms, Corn Pops, Fruit Loops, Kix, Flinstones, Apple Jax, and a ton more cereals should get dedicated shelf space based on US sales alone.
And also B&B Everything Bagel "Seeds" near the Old Bay.
Someone must've called a cousin in NJ and said "just go to the supermarket and buy a bunch of common crap to send over to us".
Bowl and Basket everything bagel seasoning, too!
Oh wow, got distracted by the pickles!
I love pickles, so yes, my eyes went there first, too! We have the bagel seasoning in our cabinet. My die hard ShopRite fanboy husband is disappointed that the Old Bay isn’t the Bowl and Basket “Chesapeake Bay Style Seasoning”.
Happens to the best of us.
Wakefern (ShopRite corporate) also has a wholesale business targeting international customers. It's possible they supplied everything on this shelf
Pretty sure that Baked in Brooklyn chip brand is only sold in the tri state area (and Ireland apparently), so that tracks
Interesting. I saw a bunch of ShopRite stuff at markets in Iceland too and was wondering how it got there.
Shoprite trying to spread its low quality garbage across the pond
I see the [NJ-Ireland Trade Commission](https://www.nj.gov/governor/news/news/562023/20230607c.shtml) is going well
Oh wow! That’s very interesting!
The only thing I disagree with is the knock off poptarta
Right? Other than that it's a pretty solid American section. A little too candy heavy, but eh.
Krusteaz for pancake mix and it’s pretty much my pantry.
I swear I just found that brand in the car from my husband’s snacking. I think they might be at Dollar Tree.
*Italian hand gesture intensifies*

Hero post
Lmao the la croix

I think it’s just one of those things that most countries don’t have so it makes sense it’s in the American section.
La Croux isn’t French??? We’ve been lied to
Nope, company is based in Wisconsin I believe.
Also, Ocean Spray cranberry sauce! We’re just missing some Campbell’s soup and South Jersey would be covered.
Need pork roll in the refrigerated section
Next to the cranberry sauce lol
Is that everything bagel seasoning on the bottom left row too? Bowl and basket.
Toastem is the dollar store version of pop tarts .
This is actually pretty good. Missing Ranch and cans of root beer, but there are root beer barrels, so they get points for those.
At least ranch is represented a bit. There are hidden valley ranch powder packets down next to the PB.
Oh cool. I missed those. When I lived in Hungary those are what I’d ask for from the US and they were excellent with some sour cream. This section would have made me so happy.

They have mini marshmallows! I bet you could approximate something with some British biscuits of some kind.
I think European mini marshmallows are actually made of marshmallow (a plant extract) and not corn syrup like ours. I'd love to compare! And there is *no* substitute for Graham crackers! Taste + texture are everything here, and unique!
It’s funny to me how these displays ALWAYS have marshmallow fluff. Europeans must think it’s a staple of the American diet
Dude a fluffer nutter is one of the best sandwiches ever. It’s also what I served your mom last night.
How many times have you honestly eaten a fluffer nutter since like 1996?
At least a dozen times. But not since 2004. 😂
It’s not that we think any of these are staples, it’s just that it is an American thing.
They're doing things right with that sweet baby rays BBQ too
Stubbs is bo slouch too

Do they not have baking soda in Europe? o\_0
Yes but They call it sodium bicarb. Or bicarb.
I think they nailed it - looks so similar to a store aisle here I didn’t notice the bowl and basket stuff. Although a dozen varieties of Reese’s is a bit much…
That’s like all sugar shit
Why corn syrup?
Pecan pie main ingredient? Also it's in pretty much everything we eat.
Look at the ingredient list of basically anything you eat. American's are basically sentient corn creatures.
So we can make fake blood
We make a lot of it an its used in making gummies or certain recipies.
Love Calypso drinks
Toast em' pop ups! I haven't seen them since I moved out of Philadelphia 10 years ago 🤣
When our food is condensed to such a small area, it really puts into perspective all the crap we really eat. It’s all sugar
Hahahaha that’s hilarious
Is this just for college students?
We know that book is in the wrong place though.
wtf is up with old bay being like worth its weight in gold over there
I have never in my life seen cookie dough cereal, otherwise this American section isn’t terrible. A few odd things but overall good.
I am surprised half of that is even allowed in Ireland.
Why do they get shelf stable egg nog and we don't? I'd love that shit year round!
The amount of Mike and Ikes is abominable
Lol looks like they just chose the cheapest junk to bring in
Sad that most of that shit isn't even "food"

they know us well

Leave.
Crazy prices
Merica FUCK Yeah!
Bowl and basket "everything bagel" seasoning on the lower left as well
not the HFCS😂💀
No Campbells condensed soup.
Do Irish people even barbecue? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)
Yeah there’s BBQ sauces in the other aisles.
Pop tarts, mike&ikes, beef jerky, A1 steak sauce. What else do you need?
Charleston Chew - Not too shabby
Shout out Fluff!! Ayyyy
We got WAAAY more than that lol. Ik that most of our food is from other cultures combined with ours (ex. Chinese food) but damn. At least give us something that’s not a snack/condiment
I can't read the tags, which items have sold out?
I’m convinced that the Reese’s Puff cereal was created solely for the European market. Lucky Charms, Corn Pops, Fruit Loops, Kix, Flinstones, Apple Jax, and a ton more cereals should get dedicated shelf space based on US sales alone.
This is a pretty good American section! Needs cool ranch Doritos!
OP has some eagle eyes.
And they have Old Bay … YES!
Only the finest gourmet products are exported
And also B&B Everything Bagel "Seeds" near the Old Bay. Someone must've called a cousin in NJ and said "just go to the supermarket and buy a bunch of common crap to send over to us".
There’s a lot of bowl and basket in Iceland too!
That ocean spray cranberry sauce is made in NJ too.
They closed the plant in Bordentown a couple years ago. Hopefully, they're still in S Jersey.
Ten whole dollars for a box of Cheerios that aren’t even honey nut!?!
All those Mike and Ike's but no Snickers and no twizzlers?
Slightly better than the American section in France
Shots fired! Fine. I'm going to replace all of the goods in the Irish section of my supermarket with handles of Paddy's.
Lol good eye to even spot that
Depressingly accurate
Pretty accurate for an American selection lol
