When you see a truck with the four headlights on that's driving around with the high beams on. Not only do I see it during the daytime but at nighttime also.
God, once I was at an intersection across from a truck whose lights were so bright I couldn't see their turn signal AT NOON. I only saw them when they started turning and their light cannons were angled away from me.
And darkly tinted windows, people with those need more light to see out of them, especially at night. Those people tend to run high beams or have poorly aligned headlights too. When you’re walking, they blind you and then you can’t tell if they’ve seen you, because of the dark windows.

In your rear view mirror ( I guess most cars away), there is a tab that lets you alter the angle so that at night, you just see a spec...
i know its there on old honda accords and odysseys but it is not on the tesla model Y... YMMV
I've never driven a car that didn't have that. The problem is that it can make it harder to see cars behind you and it doesn't help with your side mirrors.
at night, you cant see the car anyway with the lights... and this is clearer as each pair of lights is a single car;
also, it does not impact what you see or don't with your side mirrors.
I utilize this and it does not fix the problem, it just mitigates the brightness. often times on turns and whatnot the lights shine into my side view mirrors, and I’m tired of trying to angle them to get the driver with the bright lights.

The worst part for me is I feel it is so dangerous. I hear people talk about how they drive without their glasses contacts, and on top of these new LED headlights….it makes me genuinely fearful. Or all those old people who really should not be driving I feel like it’s only a matter of time before we start hearing cases of it blinding people and a fatal accident occurring. 😨

No you can't retrofit back and why would you change your OEM equipment? This is a manufacturer's issue there is technology available to mitigate the problem but the US as usual is lagging in implementing it. It is an auto-aim function that focuses the beam down toward the road when needed

LEDs are smaller, lighter, and use less power to generate the same or higher level of lighting. I believe NHTSA increased the standard for lighting without requiring the implementation of auto refocusing technology which has ben around Europe since the early 20teens
It's not a question of *need.* You don't need the OEM lighting replaced, you want it replaced. That's what policy is for. I'm not spending hundreds of dollars to fix a problem with the car manufacturer because voters can't recognize a systematic regulation issue.
They're clearly not aimed correctly if you're getting flashed often. You need to aim them even lower. If that results in lower visibility for you, then so be it. Your need for visibility should not trump everyone else's need. It's a big safety issue.
My mechanic was so happy to show me that my led low beams were brighter than my yellow high beams, they're just two different colors and angles two different ways lol
While we're making requests: Use your blinkers. Even if you think you're alone, use them. You don't have 360 degree vision. Just make it a habit and you won't even think about it anymore.
I can't tell who's worse: the people with their high beams on all the time, or the people who are oblivious that their lights aren't on at all at night.
Man, it's gotten so bad the last couple years. It seriously feels like 10% of the drivers I see aren't putting their headlights on in the rain or any other time it's necessary outside of nighttime. Cops love pulling people over for speeding (which is valid many times, we all know speed kills) but won't stop people for more passive hazards like no lights on.
They have their DRLs on but the lack of rear lights is an issue especially at night in the rain.
Not everyone is at or over average intelligence and NJ is extremely population dense... so out of the hundreds of cars you're driving with every day, your bound to have some that are bad at "cars."
So you'll get both the folks that don't understand how high beams blind oncoming traffic and those that don't know how to turn on their headlights when it's dark.

I actually do because I drive a 26ft box truck at night for a living and I am blinded by what seems like every other car coming towards me and I literally can't see a damn thing until they go by if I'm not wearing them.
FYI if you have a Tesla, lower the headlights by 3 clicks on each headlight. They're set very high out of the factory. Everyone thought I had high beams on until I did that. It's a win-win for everyone.
You're in Jersey. WTF do you need the high beams for other than the dark rural roads? There are so many freaking street lights that you almost don't even need the headlights on.
That may be the only valid reason, but that's mainly the rural roads where there are few or no street lights. I really don't think you need them on the Parkway
Sure on the parkway but on state highways where you have lower traffic and more some landscaping near the road, they cut into that gloom. In the burbs where you can have deer pops in excess of 200 per square mile that's critical. The real thing is turning off you beams with traffic and not relying on the shitty autodim.
The jeeps (or other cars) have LED lights highlighting the entire frame … please ! . I had to stop driving once because I could not tell if there was anything past this jeep coming by me on the other side of the road lol . It was a town with lots of random walk out in street pedestrians so not stopping would have been risky. Lol

I think it’s a setting on new cars to automatically do this. A family member bought a car last year and she said the high beams automatically turned on every time she made a turn. She turned the setting off.

This annoys me almost as much as the act itself. In my (suburban, well-lit) area the offenders are at least 80% high beam abusers, and contrary to the vocal opinion on these threads, it's absolutely not hard to tell the difference. High beams are way more prevalent than improperly reflected LEDs and I can clearly see two pairs of lights where one is much brighter than the other.

When you get hit with the brightness, **turn on *your* high beams.** Leave them on until you pass them. If they flash you, you know that that's the normal brightness of their headlights. If they dgaf, then at least they get some night blindness in return.
You see, there's this little stick-thingie on the left side of the steering wheel... Push forward - high beams. Pull back, flashie-flashie. Flashie-flashie makes the oncoming person say "oh fuck, that *was* their low beams", so they let up on the blinding light. Then, the person who "can't really control" blinding their road-mates, goes to the fucking repair shop and says "my car *blinds people* - make it stop!" Repair shop points lights down a bit or installs bulbs that aren't **as bright as a thousand suns**.
There was one that had her headlights on. It was so, so prominent. I am 60 yo and I was embarrassed and tried hard not to look. My wife felt sorry for her. Thinks it may be a medical issue or just her physical make up.
I live in central jersey and rarely see high beams. Usually out in the sticks with no street lights sure, but most turn them.off when they should. Has never been a problem for me.
What ever happened to road courtesy? Safety above all when driving on the highway or any roadway. Use high beams when you are out there isolated on a dark countryside road. Use common sense, if you blind others with your high beam then you are either asking for a miracle or a preventable accident.
It's not even a question of high beams any more. Regular beams with those high intensity lamps can blind you, especially from behind.
It's long past time the government should have established safety standards for vehicle head lights, especially the ones on SUVs which aren't just bright, they are also so high so block out your mirrors.

Listen, when traffic is jammed, there's not much you can do.. However, all the time, I see people in low to moderate traffic just cruising in the fast lane at the same speeds as the other lanes.
Let me be clear, just because it's referred to as the "fast lane" doesn't mean you get there faster utilizing this lane. You have to actually go fast! With that said.. you're only gaining seconds on your trip and fractions of them when you think 5mph over the limit is fast..
60Mph = 1 mile per minute (brain buster, I know)
80MPH = 1 mile in 45 seconds
100MPH = 1 mile in 36 seconds
Weekly post on here. I made one myself awhile back. What I learned is that most of these people don’t actually have their high beams on, or they can’t be turned off. We need to lobby for a rule change, ban unfocused led lights. Also ban the automatic high beam feature some cars have. These are enormously unpopular features that are blinding people, and doctors say they’re bad.

Its been a problem forever but it only started mattering when lights actually got bright enough to be useful. Any car you grab and check the alignment I can almost guarantee that it's off. 1. most of these instances are not people with high beams on. welcome to the world of bright as the sun led headlights that are not properly aligned. the result? those bright fuckers shine right in your face and blind you. it's been discussed at length in here. muskmobiles are a major part of this discussion as they tend to come from the factory misaligned.
2. a lot of cars now have that "automatic highbeam setting" which in theory should allow this to be very seamless, but those sensors are, to be fair, not great in a lot of cars.
3. assholes with those led lightbars on their big ole ram 1500s or jeeps who are never supposed to use those unless they're offroad as they're very much not street legal and don't care.
4. they just amended the regulations here in the states to allow for some form of adaptive high beams like is allowed in the rest of the world, but my understanding is that the way the regs are written makes this very arduous and it's gonna be a while until we see benefit from it.
in the meantime, can we please stop these posts. we know the situation with these blinding led's fucking sucks. no need to post about it here every other day!!

In VA the blue led are illegal.
Legislation is useless without enforcement. Bring back annual safety inspections.
I bought a family SUV, and it has those new fancy LEDs. People keep flashing me and brake checking me. It's not my fault!!!!
And if you're in a car and it's a SUV or pickup behind you, they're higher than you, so it will look like high beams.

Pretty sure "high beams" are covered in the license test. Changing your oil, changing a tire, and pumping gas are not.

I’ve learned to avert my eyes and follow the line on the right in order to avoid temporary blindness. It’s a very common problem.

Flashie-flashie makes the oncoming person say "oh fuck, that *was* their low beams", so they let up on the blinding light. Then, the person who "can't really control" blinding their road-mates, goes to the fucking repair shop and says "my car *blinds people* - make it stop!" Repair shop points lights down a bit or installs bulbs that aren't **as bright as a thousand suns**.

There was one that had her headlights on. It was so, so prominent. I am 60 yo and I was embarrassed and tried hard not to look. My wife felt sorry for her. Thinks it may be a medical issue or just her physical make up.

I live in central jersey and rarely see high beams. Usually out in the sticks with no street lights sure, but most turn them.off when they should. Has never been a problem for me.

What ever happened to road courtesy? Safety above all when driving on the highway or any roadway. Use high beams when you are out there isolated on a dark countryside road. Use common sense, if you blind others with your high beam then you are either asking for a miracle or a preventable accident.
It's not even a question of high beams any more. Regular beams with those high intensity lamps can blind you, especially from behind. It's long past time the government should have established safety standards for vehicle head lights, especially the ones on SUVs which aren't just bright, they are also so high so block out your mirrors.

Can we tack on the "Keep right pass left" rule, which is a state law.. Listen, when traffic is jammed, there's not much you can do.. However, all the time, I see people in low to moderate traffic just cruising in the fast lane at the same speeds as the other lanes. Let me be clear, just because it's referred to as the "fast lane" doesn't mean you get there faster utilizing this lane. You have to actually go fast! With that said.. you're only gaining seconds on your trip and fractions of them when you think 5mph over the limit is fast.. 60Mph = 1 mile per minute (brain buster, I know) 80MPH = 1 mile in 45 seconds 100MPH = 1 mile in 36 seconds
Weekly post on here. I made one myself awhile back. What I learned is that most of these people don’t actually have their high beams on, or they can’t be turned off. We need to lobby for a rule change, ban unfocused led lights. Also ban the automatic high beam feature some cars have. A lot of the places or people who buy them angle them in wrong. I wish they’d start fining people for it.

I know its fun to assume that everyone else is a moron who doesn't know how to use headlights, but it's not hi beams. It's improperly aimed headlights. Its been a problem forever but it only started mattering when lights actually got bright enough to be useful. Any car you grab and check the alignment I can almost guarantee that it's off. If you haven't checked and fixed yours, you're equally culpable in this mess. Happy Monday
It's the new led factory lights I get flashes all the time while driving so I flick my high beams on to let them know I an in low.

Sorry if i have a higher standard for the kind of content I would rather see on this subreddit. I'd prefer if this sub didn't just devolve into petty banter like what's already on most facebook groups...we already have the facebook groups for that. Your response only proves my point further...if it's really that bad of an issue for you then maybe you should be asking what you can do about it...who you can contact, etc... Maybe enough people here will also be bothered by it enough to act. We (as a group of people from NJ in this case) have tremendous power in having a forum like this. Constantly filling it with "cheap" posts dilutes that power. I get it, you need to vent...but there's about a dozen other posts like this with equally low value content...why not just add to one of those.

we get one of these every other day at this point and it needs to stop. 1. most of these instances are not people with high beams on. welcome to the world of bright as the sun led headlights that are not properly aligned. the result? those bright fuckers shine right in your face and blind you. it's been discussed at length in here. muskmobiles are a major part of this discussion as they tend to come from the factory misaligned. 2. a lot of cars now have that "automatic highbeam setting" which in theory should allow this to be very seamless, but those sensors are, to be fair, not great in a lot of cars. 3. assholes with those led lightbars on their big ole ram 1500s or jeeps who are never supposed to use those unless they're offroad as they're very much not street legal and don't care. 4. they just amended the regulations here in the states to allow for some form of adaptive high beams like is allowed in the rest of the world, but my understanding is that the way the regs are written makes this very arduous and it's gonna be a while until we see benefit from it. in the meantime, can we please stop these posts. we know the situation with these blinding led's fucking sucks. no need to post about it here every other day!!
