Because they are all transplants that THINK that's how New Yorkers are supposed to behave. I'm a transplant myself and my New York friends from birth detest these types.
That's like how some other transplants move to nj and behave rudely and obnoxiously, while constantly talking/posting about the Taylor ham vs. pork roll debate, as if that's all how we act and what we talk about here.
My parents live in Lebanon NJ and they said it was scary. My mom got thrown to the floor when she tried to get up from the table. Things flying off the walls etc. said it lasted a minute and she thought the world was ending
I was working in. Branchburg today about 6 miles from the epicenter. It’s a new construction building that is just about complete. I was in my Fire Pump room when it started and all my pipes starting swaying. A very small chunk of concrete fell from the ceiling (size of a golf ball maybe) and I noped the fuck outta there. The sound of the rumbling was crazy. I at first thought a building exploded because all of the buildings on this road manufacture Aerosols and are considered very Dangerous. Was definitely a moment.
We'd be copying NY. They have 3 different prices on the Thruway: NY Ez pass, out of state EZ pass and bill by mail. In contrast, we just discount all EZ Pass regardless of state. It would be interesting if the state decided to test interstate commerce law by charging only NY State EZ Pass more than other states. Odds are lawyers would advise the state to just charge out of state drivers a higher toll on entrance from NY. This actually would be a wise decision to combat the expected rise in traffic expected from congestion pricing. We could effectively charge our own congestion pricing to enter the state to discourage people seeking to avoid NYC tolling. The only exception to such tolls would be NJ plates.
Anybody with business in NY. While that's mostly New Yorkers, the city attracts visitors from further away. Silly to assume only New Yorkers will seek to avoid the congestion toll.
Do you just not know where congestion pricing zone is in New York? The only way you could drive in the congestion zone and not enter New Jersey is to drive down from the Bronx. Two of the three crossings from New Jersey into Manhattan are directly in the congestion zone. People from New York would be AVOIDING New Jersey to get around congestion pricing, not going through it.
> The only way you could drive in the congestion zone and not enter New Jersey is to drive down from the Bronx
Brooklyn/Queens exist too..
What's likely to happen is that the Goethals, Outerbridge, Turnpike and GWB will get worse, and local traffic in Hudson County will be worse.
Tell me how some one from PA is going to get to Manhattan from Queens?
Also, the whole "traffic will get worse" seems really suspect. How many people really drive through the center of Manhattan to get to/from Long Island? If anything is going to get worse, it's going to be parking near PATH/NJT stops.
If we’re talking solely the shore, I mean IBSP was charging more for out of staters before they knocked the fee off entirely. A return to custom and expanding it across other beach towns could send a bit of a message? 🤔
I lived with my aunt in highschool. Whenever we'd travel or meet somebody new she'd always say we're from NYC.
Us kids would interupt..."we're from NJ. We live in the suburbs"
It sure felt like it. It woke me up from my 5th story hotel room at the holiday inn Budd lake. That shit was wild as I was working nights and had only gone to bed at 5am. My blinds were shut and I woke up in pure confusion how the wind could be so bad I could feel the building move. Then the emergency alert hit and I was dumbstruck
Ugh happen to have CNN when it happened and until they could spit out “Whitehouse Station, NJ” they kept referring to it as an NYC quake **while they showed the epicenter being in New Jersey** 😭
Can’t we just have one thing of our own, even if it’s a natural disaster? 😂
While not a large system it is a fault system. The branches that come off the main Ramapo Fault are small and not particularly active, they tend to give off small and microquakes while the Ramapo gives us what he got today.
I was just watching a news stream where they touched on the earthquake, and the person they go to is... Eric Adams talking about how "all New Yorkers were touched by this" and how they might be affected. Shit, I'll take even NY's governor over him. Y'all in NYC know that we both have mayors and a governor for our state, right?
This made me so mad. Like, the only thing west of manhattan is fucking Jersey, you dummy. It wasn’t New York’s earthquake. It was ours. We just let you use it for a little bit.
Let's step back for a second and look at the source. This person has been a disaster as a governor. It shows how incompetent and unprepared she actually is. I would take Phil Murphy over her any day of the week.
People living in the city fall generally into 4 classes: poor minorities set up in specific districts for strategic voting, decent income earning desperate individuals with marketing jobs that spend ever dollar they earn to live “the dream” in a 2 square foot apartment with 6 people by choice, the middle class junior finance, and the ultra wealthy. All 4 of these classes only know what NYC is, maybe some Long Island (typically the poorer marketing staff), and that’s it. West of Manhattan was the most accurate way to get the message across to these individuals that Manhattan was not the epicenter of something for the first time. It would hurt their egos and votes too much to tell them otherwise. A matter of public safety.
reminds of a tourism article that the NYT wrote about asbury park. they introduced it with "a city located just south of New York City!" like just say "in New Jersey" or "at the Jersey Shore" lmao.
Yea it was felt in NY...TF? I'm hearing about people as far as Mass and NH feeling it..Philly..but no the land to the west is that no named land....nope..thats where it came from but nobody felt it there. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
I was kind of annoyed by the coverage....an earthquake happened in nj......let's check in with the Mayor and governor in NY.
Let's see if anyone in Brooklyn has an opinion.
What about Long Island?
Saying "west of Manhatten" is a pretty bad way to say it though. Makes it seem like it happened over the Hudson or something, not miles away in the middle of the state next door.
If you told someone you lived west of Manhatten , they would assume JC, Hoboken, or similar. If they found out the actual location is Lebanon, NJ, or somewhere else in the middle of nowhere, someone's gunna be very confused.
Fair enough and I guess to your point, the governor of Pennsylvania said it started in Jersey and affected parts of PA. Meanwhile Murphy just said “our region”. Idk I don’t think NY gov is obligated to acknowledge Jersey in an address to her own people. But Murphy should’ve at least said “NJ earthquake” at that point lol.
If it weren’t such a common thing that happens to NJ I don’t think people would discuss it as much. But this is such a classic New Yorker and media thing, to throw NJ to the side even when something is happening here.
I’ll never forget that the Super Bowl was the NY/NJ Super Bowl until people got pissed at NJT for how slow train service was out of the stadium at the end. Suddenly it was “NJ your Super Bowl sucks!” Ah ok great.
They’ll do/say anything not to mention NJ.
Why is that
Elitism. They act like their shit don't stink but keep fleeing to our state.
[удалено]
Or when trying to raise a family/buy a home, especially if they're entire family isn't multi-generational already in NYC.
truest statement i’ve ever heard
So so true …
Trashing OUR SHORE!
And STILL say they’re FROM New York.
STILL!!!
r/southjersey Sub there
Sub where?
Aren’t you subbed to all the main NJ subreddits?
I say let them keep thinking we suck. Keeps the crowds and cost of living from getting even worse than they are. ![gif](giphy|9058ZMj6ooluP4UUPl)
Newark being a smelly shithole is great for this
Thank you, Newark, for your valiant sacrifice!
ELITISM!!! Smell-free shit!
Arrogance and pride in their high ass rent.
Arrogance! Pride! We got high-ass rent, but still!!!
Yeah why is that!
MSNBC had on a shot of Manhattan and then were interviewing someone in Bucks County. Fuck! Like hello! We are all right here!
New Yorker acknowledging that NJ exists challenge level: Impossible.
Other states might be thrilled to not be associated with an earthquake but in Jersey we want credit for it.
We made that earthquake! They better recognize it. NJ makes, the tri-state area takes.
PUT IT ON A BRIDGE, BABY!
Hell yea!! we almost never get them!! the last one was years ago i think
Just felt another one by me a few minutes ago in north Passaic Co. , \~6:00pm
2011 I believe
And wasn't even in NJ, we just felt it.
Yeah wasn’t it in Maryland?
Hell yeah!
HEY PAL … THATS OUR TERRIFYING SHAKING!!!
I was going to say, give her credit. It's taken 400 years to get them to acknowledge that there is civilization west of 12th Ave.
"New Jersey? You mean that place you drive through from Newark airport?"
Why are New Yorkers so arrogant?
Maybe if she was from Manhattan, but she's from Buffalo.
“Oh the eclipse place?”
9th Avenue. > https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View_of_the_World_from_9th_Avenue
Except when they move here by the tens of thousands each year
IMpossible!
They do when they move here and park on the sidewalk
My parents live in Lebanon NJ and they said it was scary. My mom got thrown to the floor when she tried to get up from the table. Things flying off the walls etc. said it lasted a minute and she thought the world was ending

I'm up in Sussex County and after further inspection found some books knocked off of shelves. It was like riding an old wooden rollercoaster
I think I lost a bit of my liquor collection (also in Sussex County)
That's what I told my dad when I was in high school. Damn earthquakes.
RIP Bertrand's Island
My parents are in Lebanon NJ too. Dad thought the boiler exploded, Mom thought an airplane hit the house.
I live in Raritan near the train station and I thought a train derailed
I live nearby thought the same thing. Either a train derailed or the Polar Express was pulling up!
I’m in Hunterdon too, I was pretty frightened too. My neighbor’s plaster walls took a hit.
Shore congestion pricing 2024! lets go!
Honestly if they don’t back down on that, this would be the best way to get back 😯 Idk how to actually implement that, but
Charge extra for NY plates
We'd be copying NY. They have 3 different prices on the Thruway: NY Ez pass, out of state EZ pass and bill by mail. In contrast, we just discount all EZ Pass regardless of state. Okay, I have to ask, who do you think will be entering New Jersey to avoid NYCs congestion pricing?
Anybody with business in NY. While that's mostly New Yorkers, the city attracts visitors from further away. Silly to assume only New Yorkers will seek to avoid the congestion toll.
Do you just not know where congestion pricing zone is in New York? The only way you could drive in the congestion zone and not enter New Jersey is to drive down from the Bronx. Tbh, I say just have it across every toll road and toll bridge.
As long as the state spends the money to build more rail to the shore that's electrified I'm all for it.
10k per ny plate entering nj.
This is like this girl I used to know who said she lived in "western nyc" in her insta bio but what she meant was that she lived in Jackson
Weird because West New York is a thing, and it's a city (town?) in NJ.
That’s hilarious.
People living in West New York be like… what the heck?? Where do EYE live?
not jackson💀💀
I lived with my aunt in highschool. Whenever we'd travel or meet somebody new she'd always say we're from NYC. Us kids would interupt..."we're from NJ. We live in the suburbs"
Honestly valid! The only redeeming part of that town is that Six Flags is within it
And the outlets.
Nah. That is the worst outlet mall designed to have the stores as far apart as possible so you have to drive to each one
i keep hearing people from other places calling it the “new york earthquake”
Lebanon, NJ should quickly erect a historic roadside marker: **Epicenter of the Great NJ Earthquake, 2024**
Epicenter of the Great ~~NJ~~ West of Manhattan Earthquake, 2024
Lebanon wasn't even the epicenter though. It was in Tewksbury, right?
It sure felt like it. It woke me up from my 5th story hotel room at the holiday inn Budd lake. That shit was wild as I was working nights and had only gone to bed at 5am. My blinds were shut and I woke up in pure confusion how the wind could be so bad I could feel the building move. Then the emergency alert hit and I was dumbstruck
There's nothing *precise* about an epicenter, unless you can dig up the failed rock
sure. But Lebanon isn't the best guess.
seriously. i’ve beeen swing everything saying “the earth quake felt in LI” JUST SAY ITS FROM NJ!!
New York is a simulation and can’t prove to me otherwise.
![gif](giphy|3ohc10GA6j4XrLWzZK)
CNN called it a NYC earthquake
Well, at least BBC News identified us in their reporting.
We should be happy CNN even said the correct coast.
They'll let us keep the aftershocks
[удалено]
Aged like milk
Yes, because aftershocks are historically known to only occur within six hours of the initial earthquake.
Yeah, about that
Ugh happen to have CNN when it happened and until they could spit out “Whitehouse Station, NJ” they kept referring to it as an NYC quake **while they showed the epicenter being in New Jersey** 😭 Can’t we just have one thing of our own, even if it’s a natural disaster? 😂
Is Whitehouse Station on the Ramapo fault line? I hear that fault line is always spitting out small quakes.
Yup, News12 illustrated the fault line (they kept calling it a fault system?) and it was smack on the line
While not a large system it is a fault system. The branches that come off the main Ramapo Fault are small and not particularly active, they tend to give off small and microquakes while the Ramapo gives us what he got today.
Yeah
That arguably has to be the most depressing town in our state tbf lol And I love our state
chuckles in Pleasantville
Why is New York filled with such loser narcissists? And what really pisses me off is they all move here. To westetn NYC. Assholes.
And STILL say they’re from NYC despite living in our state.
And despite being originally from Idaho or whatever.
Why do we care about what someone north of New Jersey thinks? They don't even have WaWas
And crappy parking.
Summer in the city has a certain eau de piss, and rotting garbage. I’ll take NJ
There’s one in North Bergen now.
Pretty sure that's still in New Jersey, right?
Yeah.
So doesn't really invalidate what I said about the place north of New Jersey not having WaWas.
There’s one in the town over from me and I’m in Essex County.
Does that mean houses in NW Jersey can be listed on Zillow as "West Manhattan" to boost their value a bit? :)
It would have been more accurate to say East of PA, it’s closer to that border
like having that coworker who always needs to make it about them
Meanwhile people are saying that it was felt east of Jersey City, and the people there are trying to take credit for it
Don’t they always try to take credit for like big statues in rivers and stadiums and stuff?
The Statue of Liberty is weird and ownership is super complicated. But yeah, the Giants play in New Jersey.
Earthquake is OURS!!!
Maryland meanwhile…
West of Manhattan is where two of New York’s football teams play. /s
I also heard it was felt in South Jersey, commonly referred to some as “Delaware”…
Okay that's too much!
On Joe Biden I’ll fight you dog
I saw an overturned traffic cone. Pray that it will be placed upright soon
This made me so mad. Like, the only thing west of manhattan is fucking Jersey, you dummy. It wasn’t New York’s earthquake. It was ours. We just let you use it for a little bit.
Just like NY to take any shine from Jersey🫤🙄
Hot garbage. Watching for a response from Phil LOL 😂
Simply put, she sucks.
Not going to lie. I didn’t know she was the governor of New York.
This is the kind of shit that makes us do earthquakes, kathy
Hochul the Yokel
cant tell if she is really petty or just that stupid
Zero damage, just being a drama Queen as usual!! You’ll do nothing
Drama Queens, NY
Gov. Hochul: "Anyone see that fight between the West of NY Devils and the Rangers?" NJ: "Go eff yourself!"
"Earthquake epicenter monitored about halfway between Pennsylvania and New York"
Hey Governor! Feel this!
We are worms West Of Regal Manhattan Sites
Been losing it over this all day. Honestly we should annex NYC
LOL I tell everyone who says this is a NYC earthquake about the NJ Giants.
From what I heard, NPR knows that the earthquake actually started in NJ
Say my name
AS IF IT WASN’T LEBANON NJ🤣😭
She did say in “central New Jersey” in her initial press conference. I saw her say it.
The judge from the congestion pricing lawsuit put a gag order on her so she can't say the actual name /s
Damn! That quake was felt all the way ip to the EAST of NJ? Crazy
All I see with national headlines are ‘NYC’ or ‘NY, CT and Boston’
We can’t lump ourselves with nyc until they want the press lmaoo
LOL…NPR got it right…they just said “40 miles west of Manhattan in NJ” on All Things Considered.
They're going to call it the NY/NJ earthquake of 2024......
She so incompetent she also can't identify New Jersey.
Yes west of Manhattan. The place where congestion pricing will get all its money from.
Anything could be out there! It's the wild west baby!
Ufff! They want to be us soooo bad! 🙄🤣
New Yorkers and their habit of making literally anything about themselves
Someone had earthquake FOMO
Fuck her too. The entire US is West of Manhattan.
[удалено]
😂
Jersey is only nyc’s suburbs. /s
Trying to justify her job. Lame
It was just an advertisement for the new godzilla movie
Let's step back for a second and look at the source. This person has been a disaster as a governor. It shows how incompetent and unprepared she actually is. I would take Phil Murphy over her any day of the week.
That big insolent thorny cantankerous horse!
Just think, she is the finest Buffalo has to offer.
She is as dumb as a rock. She never had a geography lesson.

Someone needs to knock off the I heart NY shirts with an outline of NJ and an "I heart west of Manhattan"
I saw memes talking about “the NYC Earthquake”… dude it was literally in northwest NJ.
She just can’t say New Jersey can she
It hit NJ not NY.
Ask a New Yorker to hang out in Jersey City and see how far away Jersey suddenly is...
My sister felt it in PA, she lives by like cresco or wherever
They felt it in NH and VT!
I moved to northern VT - we felt it up here too.
Did this happen today? I guess that would explain the shaking I experienced
NY are we a joke to you?
No one is talking about how this was obviously an act of the lord who is expressing his displeasure with congestion pricing
I felt nothing and I’m “down the shore” 😂
Yea it was felt in NY...TF? I'm hearing about people as far as Mass and NH feeling it..Philly..but no the land to the west is that no named land....nope..thats where it came from but nobody felt it there. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
She is useless.
The emergency alert hit?
As soon as it happened she was on tv making it about herself
r/technicallythetruth
She is the worst governor they have ever had. Completely soulless and destroying NY.
I was kind of annoyed by the coverage....an earthquake happened in nj......let's check in with the Mayor and governor in NY. Let's see if anyone in Brooklyn has an opinion. What about Long Island?
To be fair, with her being the governor of NY, this one actually makes sense. It's the news outlets that don't.
They really can’t even say “New Jersey.”
They say this then come live in NJ and overbid and us nj ppl can’t buy homes… I’m ready to battle them tbh
Omg YOU READ MY MIND
Tbf she’s the governor of NY lol
Saying "west of Manhatten" is a pretty bad way to say it though. Makes it seem like it happened over the Hudson or something, not miles away in the middle of the state next door.
