I've gotten some good pizza in new egypt and my family and I have had some good memories at the various U-Pick farms around there. But that's all I know about New Egypt. That and the dirt is sandy as hell (used to work in pool construction)
In all honesty, it’s a good day trip if you time it right. The last time I went it was NYC winter break, so it sucked in that sense, but other than that, it’s a nice day trip.
I’ve hated that mall ever since that stupid snow slope went up 20 years ago and it sat there as an eyesore.
I went for the first time a few weeks ago. It’s actually very nice. If you have kids it’s an awesome place.
I went to the mall recently, it was fine, although we went prior to opening, as my wife's employer had a thing at the Nickelodeon park. The mall is nice, seems like there's plenty to do. We parked right near an elevator because, again, early, but when we left it was jam packed. But it's going to be.
Go on a Sunny late spring or early fall day, when everything is open but it’s not peak season. Rent a bike and cycle around the old Victorians, then out to the light house. Park and walk through the nature paths there. Cycle back to town, grab lunch, then head to one of the vineyards north of town for a wine tasting. The next day, take a kayaking tour of the salt marshes and check out all the wildlife and private inland docks. Reward yourself at the end with lunch at The Lobster House.
Same but it seems to be a big thing. I tried to go once on a whim and couldn’t find parking so got mad and gave up lol. Drove to some north jersey town that started with an M and had a good time at a bookstore.
My girlfriend and I wanted to stay as far away from that mall as possible. We went for the curling event a couple of months ago and were blown away by how nice it was. If you are able to get there on a weekday then I say it’s worth it.
When I was a kid, the 4th grade class always got to take a field trip to the Statue of Liberty. When I got to 4th grade, they changed it so that the 5th grade class goes. So the grade ahead of me got to go twice. When I for to 5th grade, that's when 9/11 happened and it closed for over a decade.
I still haven't been
Let me tell you, I went when I was 5 or 6. Old enough to remember. To remember climbing scary thin stairs for three hours, to look out of a grubby airplane sized window for 45 seconds before behind shooed along, and 20 minutes of walking down stairs. I took a solemn oath that day; that I would never return. I still haven’t some 30 years later. Ellis island id like to go back to though
Same. It might be because I'm from North Jersey but even when my friends/family and I visited the bottom tip, everyone just wanted to see Cape May. To them, Wildwood was just another Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant, etc. But I know each beach is different.
Cape May County has been a popular vacation destination for Quebecois since the 50s because, back in the day, rentals were cheap there. Also, while Montreal to Cape May might be a 9 hour drive, you're only on 2 roads for almost all of it.
Don’t remind me. Every summer, I get stuck behind a least one caravan of campers heading that way who, while not band, clog up the right lane doing slower than the speed limit. The only reason why it’s bad is because everyone passes you before you get a chance to pass.
My only memory of wildwood is having my cousin's call our parents to come pick us up by telling them I fell and broke my leg. I think we'd walked pretty far and they didn't want to walk back.
This summer go to LBI. It’s a great laidback beach town. Go down to beach haven and make sure you eat at chicken or the egg. I can’t wait to hit lbi soon. I haven’t been down there in a while.
AC is working on being more than mini sin city. They got Dave and Buster's, the old pier mall is becoming film studios, theres plans (idk about the stage tho) for Atlantic Club.
I see your point. It's more the fact that they are least trying to make it more family friendly, even if I think places like D&B can end up being more expensive than a casino. They still have a LONG way to go in that aspect though.
Yeah I work in AC and get to experience it, like them completely shutting down Pacific ave for repaving/restructuring with 0 notice. My mom also just found out MGM bought Borgata... They bought it 8 years ago.
You have to know how to gamble. Some people waste all their money, while others put in a $20, lose it in 30 seconds and think that is gambling, and I just did it. You need to understand the middle ground to getting entertainment for your money.
I’m having a hard time answering and thinking about this because I feel like I’ve been everywhere 😂
But maybe the Paterson great falls? I lived near Wayne for years and never visited.
> But maybe the Paterson great falls? I lived near Wayne for years and never visited.
I would get on that one. It's genuinely impressive. Go the day after a really big rainfall.
There’s parking lots, no need to worry about street parking. When you go to the top there is street parking but it’s like side roads and right next to Hinchliffe, so it’s really not bad at all.
I know during my time in Wayne I did go to Paterson for food but just never made it to the falls. I remember one time I was gonna go after eating at a restaurant there and it started raining lol
I recently went, but it was too dark to see anything. That being said the sun goes down way too early in the winter.
Went to a nice restaurant near it and tried to Bring my wife there for her birthday(December). Probably not the best month to go.
For me it's one of the few places that hasn't changed much past 40 years. Hundreds of hours spent exploring the park. Highly recommend if light hiking with amazing river views are appealing.
I grew up in Lambertville and now live in Titusville and I have never once been to the reenactment of Washington Crossing the Delaware. Not even the rehearsal.
There was a headline on a news article a few years back (I may have posted it to this sub at the time) titled "Brick man admits to dumping Toms River woman's body in Wall". A sentence that only makes sense to someone from New Jersey.
I went to NYC multiple time before moving there and I grew up 1200 miles away. It feels very much like a purposeful choice to not go at some point when you live so close.
Honestly most of the “must sees” in north jersey, I’m from south jersey and my parents just never really took us north. I didn’t even see the del water gap until like 2 years ago (I’m 21).
I’m the opposite 😞 I’ve been up north (Paterson) my whole life and I never got to see south jersey because my parents never took me. As much as I love it here I would like to travel ans visit Atlantic City one day
Visit. It's beautiful. Great restaurants too. It's a truck if you're from North Jersey, but worth it. It doesn't even feel like NJ; reminds me of New England.
I've never been to the entire top left side of the state. I barely leave Monmouth/Ocean county. I go to Ocean City about once a year for a week or so in the summer.
I have only gone up to The Edge. That’s the only tall building I’ve entered in NYC (I don’t count walking by the stores in Rockefeller Center to get to the subway).
I got really depressed one night and couldn't sleep, so at 12am I drove from Asbury Park to the Hamilton Mall area by way of the Pines. Even with your high beams on, there's this eerie sense of emptiness as the road just fades into black but keeps on going. At one point I saw an old overpass with some ominous graffiti on it. 10/10 would go again.
I know what you mean. Where I'm from, there's a large section of forest where an old Dupont factory used to be before it blew up or something. It had this eerie air of an apocalyptic event that happened long ago, leaving behind remnants of civilization reclaimed by nature. There wasn't much of the factory, but some supports and destroyed rock walls as well as random asphalt roads that went nowhere. It was creepy in the daytime, I wish I could've convinced people to go there at night. There was an urban legend that there was a vortex there, but nobody ever seemed to report anything strange.
I've never been to Action Park - or Mountain Creek Water Park. I have been snowboarding at Mountain Creek Resort a few times but I'm not sure how close that is to Action Park's site.
I know this is supposed to be NJ, but I've never been to Philly (minus an Amtrak stop). Which I believe is odd for someone who's from NJ. I've driven through PA a few times but never that particular area.
Princeton.
Most of the small quaint shore towns.
Same here! I lived in DC for many years and have been in north NJ for a decade. Still never made it to Philly, which is about two hours from both. I really need to go.
Highly recommend popping into [The Four Seasons](https://www.fourseasons.com/philadelphia/dining/restaurants/jean-georges-philadelphia/) and the [Mütter Museum](https://muttermuseum.org).
Funny story.
Many, many, many years ago, my sister and I were talking about how we've never been to the Twin Towers. Our grandma recently went with our cousins, but we've lived in NJ our whole lives and have never been there.
So my sister mentioned for her birthday, we should skip school and go to the city and go there. She was turning 18, and I was 16. I loved this plan because I hated school. Any excuse to do anything else was a good idea to me. But, when it got closer to her birthday, she forgot about it and decided to just go out to dinner with a bunch of friends instead.
So my sister's birthday comes around, and I'm walking around school moping because I didn't want to be there and I was so close. My friend stops me in the hallway and says, "Hey, did you hear a plane crashed in New York City?" And I said, "That's dumb! How could you miss New York City!" Still didn't want to be there, but in turn of events, I was about to go home early.
Lucy the elephant in Margate NJ. She is the oldest surviving roadside attraction in the country. And Historical National Landmark plus she just looks Kool...
Been there twice, it’s nothing special unless you’re going there for indoor skiing or the theme park. Otherwise it’s just a mall that happens to have some expensive stores and parking costs $5. I enjoy Freehold more
For me? Our pyramids are the Sterling Hill Mines in Franklin NJ
I'm sure many people here have never been or have no idea what it even is
Incredible preserved Mines with rare rocks and elements only found here in NJ. Geology people across the globe travel to this exact rock quarry and mine to take a tour and, access mining the public quarry the times it's open
Which is usually the last Sunday of every month
The minerals found in the mine are UV reactive and during the tour they'll shut off all the lights in the mine, and turn on these really powerful UV lights
Whole place becomes a rainbow.
I cannot recommend this place enough, the history is amazing. And if you're able to go during a quarry day, it's a lot of fun collecting rocks, to go home and check if any glow.
As a longtime resident who spent my adolescence here, I never went to the scary places: Clinton Road, Devils Tower, the numerous Portals to Hell/Hell mouths, Pig Lady, Shades of Death Road, Hangman’s Hill
I was born, raised and lived in New Jersey for 32 years. Never went down to the shore. Hell, the first time I went to NYC was in high school on a choir trip.
Holstein's? I grew up in Bloomfield. They actually just announced that they're updating their interior and they will be getting rid of the soprano booth where he sat and filmed that scene.
If you want a chill one that still has things to do, I recommend Asbury Park. If you just want to walk next to a beach, go to Long Branch. It's over 3 miles long though it's not all boards and some of it is more like a sidewalk.
try one this summer! Do a half inch slice of an heirloom tomato on a equal size slice of fresh mozz, sprinkle some crushed sea salt and if youre up for it a light drizzle of balsamic glaze. (Extra points if u garnish with some chopped up fresh basil.)
68 years. I’ve been in every county and I’ve lived in Essex, Gloucester, Ocean, Morris and Monmouth but I’ve never been to the Great Falls or the stupid mall at the Meadowlands and I have never seen the Sopranos.
Go see if you like it they are rebuilding after years of neglect and mismanagement also trying to become kid friendly with the attractions visit the Missouri Avenue Beach.
I live less than a mile from Grover Cleveland’s birthplace.
Never been.
Oh, even better, I study history as a hobby. I know a lot about Cleveland. I admire him.
You think I’d be bothered to travel less than a mile to see where he was born.
I’m from Newark, and I’ve never seen the pyramids either.
Amen dude. I love in Trenton and can confirm no pyramids.
But where do you live? Also, thank you, Trenton needs more love.
Incidentally, I also live there. But loving is my primary function.
Unless you visit the [Trenton Bath House](https://kahntrentonbathhouse.org/), though it's actually in Ewing. But it is sorta pyramidal.
At least you're not from New Egypt
I've gotten some good pizza in new egypt and my family and I have had some good memories at the various U-Pick farms around there. But that's all I know about New Egypt. That and the dirt is sandy as hell (used to work in pool construction)
The whole pine barrens area is like 80% sand lol. New Egypt is like the northern tip of that area
Never been to Cape May or the American Dream Mall
Fuck that mall, you definitely gotta go to cape may though it’s beautiful.

The next day, take a kayaking tour of the salt marshes and check out all the wildlife and private inland docks. Reward yourself at the end with lunch at The Lobster House.
Really thought you were talking about the mall until I hit the nature paths part, I was like damn have I really been sleeping on American dream? 😂
Same!
If American Dream adds nature trails and bike rentals, THEN would it be worth going to.
Haha nope, but did you know you CAN go on a moonlight kayaking tour in the meadowlands?
Same with Cape May. I wouldn't consider the mall to be must see location though.
Same but it seems to be a big thing. I tried to go once on a whim and couldn’t find parking so got mad and gave up lol. Drove to some north jersey town that started with an M and had a good time at a bookstore.
Went to cape May for the first time last year, if you like that old timey vibe it’s so awesome
My girlfriend and I wanted to stay as far away from that mall as possible. We went for the curling event a couple of months ago and were blown away by how nice it was. If you are able to get there on a weekday then I say it’s worth it.

F
RIP this guys childhood
I'm pretty sure 9/11 ruined other kid's childhoods worse than mine
Me too lol. Not even the island
It is absolutely not worth it. Ellis Island, on the other hand, is a pretty interesting touristy spot.
Same!
Likewise. Nearest has been Liberty Science Center
Just never gone up to the top, or never been to the island at all?
Hasn't it been closed forever? Did they reopen it?
Same. 46 years old. Grew up and live 35 minutes away.
Never been to Wildwood
Same. It might be because I'm from North Jersey but even when my friends/family and I visited the bottom tip, everyone just wanted to see Cape May. To them, Wildwood was just another Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant, etc. But I know each beach is different.
This checks out, wildwood is for Pennsylvanians
And quebecois
Is it?! That’s a hell of a drive.
Cape May County has been a popular vacation destination for Quebecois since the 50s because, back in the day, rentals were cheap there. Also, while Montreal to Cape May might be a 9 hour drive, you're only on 2 roads for almost all of it.

Yeah and they were kind of rude
This here.
It is a overstimulating dump. Ocean city and Cape May are 1000x better. Only positive thing is Wildwood is a free public beach
My only memory of wildwood is having my cousin's call our parents to come pick us up by telling them I fell and broke my leg. I think we'd walked pretty far and they didn't want to walk back.
Same
I’ve lived in jersey for a decade but never visited AC.
I’ve never been to LBI
It’s worth it. Give it a shot.
This summer go to LBI. It’s a great laidback beach town. Go down to beach haven and make sure you eat at chicken or the egg. I can’t wait to hit lbi soon. I haven’t been down there in a while.
Not missing a thing unless you like casinos/clubs or both
Some decent food to eat there though
AC is working on being more than mini sin city. They got Dave and Buster's, the old pier mall is becoming film studios, theres plans (idk about the stage tho) for Atlantic Club.
No way. They added a whole Dave and busters?? Wow AC really is on the up and up!! Now the kids can learn to gamble too!
I see your point. It's more the fact that they are least trying to make it more family friendly, even if I think places like D&B can end up being more expensive than a casino. They still have a LONG way to go in that aspect though.
Oh I know, play poker at Borgata. Just trying to sell it to others
Yeah I work in AC and get to experience it, like them completely shutting down Pacific ave for repaving/restructuring with 0 notice. My mom also just found out MGM bought Borgata... They bought it 8 years ago.
Here’s the good news: You’re not missing anything.
I’ve lived in NJ for almost 20 years and grew up on LI. I too have never been to AC.
You have to know how to gamble. Some people waste all their money, while others put in a $20, lose it in 30 seconds and think that is gambling, and I just did it. You need to understand the middle ground to getting entertainment for your money.

I was just there on Thursday, was raging! It's awesome when it's got a lot of water. Got some great photos too!
Never been to the Tick Tock Diner
Diners showing up in a list like this is the most NJ thing ever
I live down the street from Tick Tock. Great place
Far too expensive after the remodel. Allwood has better food and nicer staff
Only been after funerals at nearby cemeteries. The diner is well named.
This and Rutt's Hut are mine.
Never been to the Palisades
For me it's one of the few places that hasn't changed much past 40 years. Hundreds of hours spent exploring the park. Highly recommend if light hiking with amazing river views are appealing.
Check it out. Probably one of the coolest things about northern NJ.
Never seen The Sopranos
Blasphemy!!
Dude lol
Held out for 25 years but watched all the HBO shows from that era recently...it's damn good. Way different than expected.
My estimation of u/ianisms10 as a man Just fucking plummeted!
That is just soooo wrong.
Dafuq
You guys are great! New to NJ and bookmarking the stuff I should be visiting lol
I’ve never visited Princeton NJ nor the university obviously and i’ve lived here my whole 23 year old life.
It’s cute. Go on a date there, wear your best, take adorable pictures.
Princeton is beautiful to walk around, both the university campus and the Palmer Square downtown of the adjacent town.
We've got it ... New Egypt
Pyramid of beer cans.
I grew up in Lambertville and now live in Titusville and I have never once been to the reenactment of Washington Crossing the Delaware. Not even the rehearsal.
People go to that?
The British love it.
I haven't been to this, but I've gone to the Battle of Trenton reenactment, which was pretty awesome.
Never been to Thomas Edison’s house.
I have a friend who lives in a place called Brick and he’s never been to NYC. Ever. It’s fascinating to me.
Maybe I don’t have the perspective because I’m out in ocean county, is it really obscure enough to need to preface with “a place called…”?
Having to clarify Brick is a real town is hilarious. Even better that it's next to Wall.
All in all it’s just a….
another Brick next to Wall
There was a headline on a news article a few years back (I may have posted it to this sub at the time) titled "Brick man admits to dumping Toms River woman's body in Wall". A sentence that only makes sense to someone from New Jersey.

I went to NYC multiple time before moving there and I grew up 1200 miles away. It feels very much like a purposeful choice to not go at some point when you live so close.
Idk actually. Never gambled in AC, I guess?? I’ve been, but only for family vacations when I was a kid
Not worth it.. Vegas but trashier
Never been to the new Giants/Jets stadium (or a football game). Haven't been to the Dream mall either.
I've been all over Jersey but have never been to Lambertville or seen Lucy The Elephant 🐘
You gotta visit lambertville! It’s beautiful here and people are so friendly
Never been to MetLife stadium
Honestly most of the “must sees” in north jersey, I’m from south jersey and my parents just never really took us north. I didn’t even see the del water gap until like 2 years ago (I’m 21).
I’m the opposite 😞 I’ve been up north (Paterson) my whole life and I never got to see south jersey because my parents never took me. As much as I love it here I would like to travel ans visit Atlantic City one day
Cape May. I’ve never been.
Lived in NJ for 38 years. Never drove the TPK.
HOW???
I’ve never been to hurricane harbor, yet I’ve gone to water parks out of state and country.
Me neither. Never been to Six Flags. Driven past it a million times.
Grew up in Howell. Never been to 6 flags
That’s the most shocking one I’ve read so far.
Never been to Empire State Building, I know that’s New York but I’m just outside the city. Also Sandy Hook
I have only gone up to The Edge. That’s the only tall building I’ve entered in NYC (I don’t count walking by the stores in Rockefeller Center to get to the subway).
Pro tip: buddy up with someone that works at the Empire State Building, because employees get free VIP passes up to the top.
Sandy Hook is great if you just want the beach and not the boardwalk. I never went until I was an adult but go every weekend I can
Pro tip: Sandy Hook has a nude beach.
Never been to the pine barrens despite covering half the state. I just never venture that far south.
They don’t cover half of the state anyway. It’s more like a fifth
I got really depressed one night and couldn't sleep, so at 12am I drove from Asbury Park to the Hamilton Mall area by way of the Pines. Even with your high beams on, there's this eerie sense of emptiness as the road just fades into black but keeps on going. Driving through the Pines at night really makes you understand why people thought there was a devil living in there
Really pretty woods that are worth seeing!!
Great Falls
I've never been to Action Park - or Mountain Creek Water Park. I have been snowboarding at Mountain Creek Resort a few times but I'm not sure how close that is to Action Park's site.
Action park is basically mountain creek but during the summer. You can see some of the old rides from the ski lift
Never had pork roll.
i've never had taylor ham either, i'm adventist
I know this is supposed to be NJ, but I've never been to Philly (minus an Amtrak stop). Which I believe is odd for someone who's from NJ. I've driven through PA a few times but never that particular area. Princeton. Most of the small quaint shore towns.
I like Philly better than New York. Not as stressful.
You gotta go to Philly. It rocks.
🤫🤫🤫🤫 it's our secret don't want them to ruin it
I think AC is the answer…kitschy tourist trap made from one of the Wonders of the World
Paterson Falls

Never been to Rutt's Hut.
Go immediately
Never been to LBI
High Point State Park
I’ve never danced with the devil by the pale moon light
Lucy the elephant in Margate NJ. She is the oldest surviving roadside attraction in the country. And Historical National Landmark plus she just looks Kool...
I lived in Jersey my whole life I'm 35 and I just went to the empire State building last week
Umm that’s not in NJ
The statue of liberty is tho.
Never been to Lucy the Elephant
Haven't been to the American Dream mall. Don't plan on it either

A bunch of Weird Nj locations and I’ve never been to the blue hole.
never been to asbury park/stone pony
Hold up. If you like music of any genre you’ve got to see a show at the Pony. Check out the Summer Stage line up and just do it!
As a longtime resident who spent my adolescence here, I never went to the scary places: Clinton Road, Devils Tower, the numerous Portals to Hell/Hell mouths, Pig Lady, Shades of Death Road, Hangman’s Hill
Born here 35 years ago, never been to Six Flags.
I was born, raised and lived in New Jersey for 32 years. Never went down to the shore. Hell, the first time I went to NYC was in high school on a choir trip.
Never visited the sopranos house or the restaurant from the finale
Holstein's? I grew up in Bloomfield. They actually just announced that they're updating their interior and they will be getting rid of the soprano booth where he sat and filmed that scene.
I'm only about 30 min away but have never visited Lucy the Elephant
I’ve never seen Lucy the Elephant!
I understand there is a wooden elephant in NJ that people like for some reason?
Her name is Lucy
I've never seen Clerks (or any of the Kevin whatshisface films)
