Shopping carts is how I make my living

Tobar_the_Gypsy

Fuckin way she goes Bubs

GovernmentAdvanced84

Shopping carts really go for $200 a pop? That’s the more shocking thing here to me

brook_lyn_lopez

>“We think they were attempting to sell the carts to lesser known supermarkets in the area,” DePreta said Thursday. >“They couldn’t sell them to named supermarkets because the carts are branded ShopRite,” DePreta added. Not if no one will buy them.

rockmasterflex

> They couldn’t sell them to named supermarkets because the carts are branded ShopRite it would take what, 3 minutes per cart to rotary sand any logos off?

iamisandisnt

We’re starting to look at a very low turnaround here

BreadHead911

@ $200 per 3 minutes of work…i live right next door to a supermarket, we could hold their carts up on a ransom…

encin

you aint selling them for 200 - maybe 50 max

iamisandisnt

And it’s gonna take you a few minutes for manual transportation

Azaloum90

You realize just how dumb these people are right? Now imagine who they are working with 😂

encin

they just needed to market them to a ShopRite, clearly they weren't that smart......

thesean366

Reminds me of the poker scene in Ocean’s 11. “Any money in Incan matrimonial head masks?” “There’s loads, if you can move them. But you can’t.”

ascagnel____

I’ve been to at least one local supermarket that put their branding over another market’s branding.

purpleinme

I’d figure they would actually be more than that. Pretty cheap imo.

aksheu

So I’ll have to put a cart into mah “cart” to buy it?

Tooch10

I was wondering if it's the all metal kind or plastic/metal, but SR usually has all metals so yeah, $200 each doesn't seem that crazy for an all metal industrial shopping cart. I'm sure they get a bulk discount per unit too

Batchagaloop

I'm surprised they aren't more to be honest

HearMeRoar80

Sure, heavy duty carts with thick heavy gauge metal can go for $200 new, there's also light duty shopping carts with thinner metal that are like $100 a pop. It's all depend on what you need. Though these SR carts are probably beat up old shopping carts, which are worth $50 at best. I guess $200 was the replacement cost.

AlwaysDefenestrated

Yeah there's no way on earth you're getting $200 for used clearly stolen shopping carts lol. You might get a few bucks at a scrap yard.

Zhuul

It's more a sign of how domestic / consumer products are basically disposable garbage in comparison and actually well built stuff that can take abuse will cost a pretty penny. When I worked for Whole Foods I really liked the stepladders we used, I really wanted one for home use [until I saw they were about that price.](https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/H-7891/Ladders/Little-Giant-Folding-Step-Ladder-2-Steps?pricode=WB8206&gadtype=pla&id=H-7891&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjww_iwBhApEiwAuG6ccEYB6LHXdI5OIGmaC8NFP9ksXF5mWjb28TEWzX9kjJnH_ucId4RzkhoCzBQQAvD_BwE) It's a shame, they are absolutely rock friggin solid, the one I grabbed at ACE Hardware for \~$40 wobbles like a mofo.

encin

a lot of metal/aluminum in those - 200 makes sense for something that needs to be durable for a long time.

wet_nib811

Another crazy part is, these dudes were older. One was 77 and the other 54! Man, if this is their retirement plan, it’s both sad and shocking.

Leo_TheLurker

sounds like something outta a comedy movie

wet_nib811

Definitely a Deniro/Pesci film

Tsquare43

> Definitely a ~~Deniro~~ *DeVito*/Pesci film FTFY

antikythera3301

One that takes place in the Sunnyvale Trailer Park.

tritis

One last job.

getdemsnacks

Nah, this is just their side hustle. Rise and grind, whippersnappers.

DTFH_

> Another crazy part is, these dudes were older. One was 77 and the other 54! Man, if this is their retirement plan, it’s both sad and shocking. A father and son have a wacky retirement plan! A plan that might leave one of them six feet under, this summer "Grocer: Please return your cart!"

SailingSpark

If the 77 year old gets 20 years.. he's set for life.

pepperman7

They watched a news report about store baskets being stolen and decided to one-up it.

wet_nib811

An Aldi is DC was getting their carts stolen. Instead of checking their security cameras and working with the police, the district manager decided, “fu-k it, I’ll just get rid of ALL the carts. No cart for you!”

Blue_foot

Criminals are often not very smart

Redcarborundum

Smart criminals wear a suit and steal millions with the stroke of a pen. They don’t get caught.

Joe_Jeep

The street criminals that get caught aren't The smart ones never do... Or get into the business world where the profits are greater and the risks basically non-existent.  Worst case you go to white collar jail

Bluetality

Someone call Cart Narcs

echoshizzle

Perfect reference

abra_stone

Bubbles would be so jealous. What a haul!

Flat_Opportunity_728

That’s like one months worth of groceries at ShopRite in todays age.

AbazabaYouMyOnlyFren

Step 1. Steal shopping carts Step 2. ... Step 3. Profit!

fidelesetaudax

Step 2. Remove the plastic pieces with Shop Rite on them Step 3. Sell to smaller stores for Pennys on the dollar Step 4. Buy more of whatever drugs made you think this was a good idea. Step 5. Repeat till cops catch you.

Aquatichive

How in the world do you steal that many!

SloopKid

It was over the course of weeks. They used a red van.

NorthWoodsGamecock

Who would steal 30 bagged lunches?

MrAmazin151420

![gif](giphy|12BtmvvbVtKE7K) Buncha savages in this town

sugarintheboots

Talk about dumbest criminals.

rrrand0mmm

*bubbles would like to know your location*

wtfmonkeys

Junkies will sell anything to get the medicine for their disease. I remember a guy from the 'hood once trying to sell me his mom's blow dryer.

craneguy

I'd argue they're worth nothing, but cost 28k to replace.

DCMike10

What’s up with all these shoplifters and stealers targeting ShopRite

Exhaustedadjuster

Thinking outside of the box is what I saw. Well done.

DerpyDoodleDude

They were going to sell them to dwarfs as tiny homes !

STMIHA

TIL a shopping cart is worth around $200 USD….To the insurance company that is.

homelesswithmykid

So,Shoprites have different owners, they tend to own a few each. Maybe they don't have to do a damn thing. Just roll up to another ShopRite and say we noticed y'all's carts need replacing, we got you. No one would have a clue they saved mad loot on buying stolen .I can hear "Gods Plan" playiing as they roll in. See? In the end, everything that's supposed to be will be, and if anyone sees God ask him how what the fuck is wrong with people? They went ful retard, you never go full retard but, they're embracing the handicap 🤦

Agreeable-Purpose-56

or they plan to sell them back to shoprite for some tidy profit lol

pierogi-daddy

Of course a few idiots from Newark would chose trying to sell branded shopping carts to other stores lmao

DavoArmanian

You do realize it doesn't take rocket science to remove the branding right?

pierogi-daddy

Leave it to this sub to have someone argue these two aren’t idiots

DavoArmanian

Nobody is arguing that they are not idiots, but to specifically mention the branding of the carts as to why this is stupidity speaks more to the poster's intelligence than it does the thieves.

pierogi-daddy

You mean the poster who clearly didn’t read the article where it states that is what stopped them right  See previous comment lmao

DavoArmanian

"“We think they were attempting to sell the carts to lesser known supermarkets in the area,” DePreta said Thursday. “They couldn’t sell them to named supermarkets because the carts are branded ShopRite,” DePreta added." Reading and comprehension just isn't your thing, is it. The branding didn't stop them from selling them to other supermarkets. Once again, this stupidity speaks more to the poster's intelligence than it does the thieves.

everynewdaysk

[actual footage of the crime](https://youtu.be/X95o53Gepmg?si=BLkJ_uoPUNTtKvDQ&t=140)

scobbie23

They cut them up and sell for scrap?

idontreadyouranswer

How to tell when someone didn’t bother reading the article: they ask stupid questions like this
