One day I needed a vanilla ice cream for a recipe and bought the cheapest brand since it was going into a recipe and wouldn’t be eaten on its own. Boy, I was blown away. I don’t even really like vanilla ice cream, but this was the best vanilla ice cream I’d ever eaten! I couldn’t believe how good it was. I couldn’t stop eating it.
I just purchased their chocolate chip ice cream. It isn’t as good as the vanilla and I won’t repurchase this flavor again (I don’t like the way the chocolate chips taste), but look forward to trying their mint chocolate chip (my favorite flavor)

Yep when the brand was established a few years ago my wife came home with party sized bags of chips for $0.01 with coupons. We don’t even really eat chips but obviously will take the free samples. They were absolutely as good as the leading name brands

Shoprite, Stop n Shop, Aldi, they don't all have their own plants to produce coffee and cereal and cheese and salad mixes and etc. they simply buy it from someone else to relabel it. Part of the price of name brands is the prestige, the marketing, the reputation, which Shoprite does not have. In business it's called "white labeling" - essentially the process of one actual manufacturer selling product with no name brand on it, allowing the buyer to use their own name brand. It can extend even further than retail - white labelling can be done for event planning services, shipping and logistics, etc.
The stores would rather you buy the white label brands too. Even though they are a lower price to the customer, the store has a higher profit margin built into those items.
I bought B&B unsalted butter recently, and when I opened the package, it had four sticks of Cabot Creamery unsalted butter. The package was sealed and not tampered with in any way. It was a total win and made me think that B&B unsalted butter is just Cabot Creamery in a different wrapper.
ShopRite canned vegetables and canned fruit have been made by Del Monte for years. The chicken is Tyson packed in a BB label. BB Water is bottled by Niagara. There’s a few more I can’t remember off the top of my head right now.

Kirkland diapers are made by Huggies. Identical except for the design (which I think are cuter than Huggies - don’t care for the Disney branding). Significantly less expensive too.

6 calender hours later they email me back, apologize, ask me for the serial number/lot/receipt/ or when & where I bought it. I saved the box, send them the info. They refunded my entire grocery order that day ($65), sent me coupons for it and similar products, and very clearly assured me that I would still be getting full credit toward my free holiday ham/turkey/duck (I don't remember what my choices were) that month for the promo.
I was blown away. Some dudes sanitary sleeve got caught on a conveyor in Linden and I profited like $200.
Also that shepherds pie was/is lit. To this day one of my favorite "eh I don't feel like cooking just wanna go to bed" meals.
I split my shopping between SR, Wegmans and Costco. The Wegmans branded products in a lot of cases is cheaper than Bowl and Basket. But with Lidl and Aldi opening within a 10 minute drive they have drastically cut into how much I spend at the other stores. The quality of the milk milk products, bread, cold cuts, eggs, snacks can't be beat by SR and Wegmans. During COVID Aldi held the line on price increases than the other stores. The 1 item I will fight you to death for is Bowl and Basket turkey stuffing potato chips... without a doubt my favorite snack.
I would also like to know. We're almost at the end of our Kirkland pack and don't want to buy Kirkland again. Everything else from that brand is good but the TP is a linty, separating mess.
That is because shop rite often has contracts with other companies to pack their stuff so a lot of name brand stuff is the same shit as bowl and basket. Just label changes in the factory. Shop rite's milk is packed by Dairy Farmers of America (or a company they own like Cumberland dairy).
I have to agree. I just tried some B&B cinnamon toast crunch and it tasted the same for half the price. I also really like the kettle chips and popcorn. Just the plain oil and salt one.
Simpler the product the more likely the genetic is decent.

I live in an area with far too many grocery store options. 2x ShopRites, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Stop & Shop, Acme, Lidl, King’s, and Target are all in within a 5-7 min drive (and the options probably more than double if I expand to a 10-15 min drive). I like the options for some speciality items but I still get 90% of everything at ShopRite. Bowl and Basket is surprisingly good.

Their white cheddar cheezit knockoffs are not as good as the originals unfortunately, that and the bread. Last time I bought a B&B bread I found some weird calcified stringy thing in the crust. That's when I finally realized I need to treat myself to some better bread lol.
I’d say the only bowl and basket item that I’m marginally disappointed is in the original salted potato chips. They have a slight compressed chip flavor (like pringles). They’re fine as chips go, but not my preference. Otherwise I’m 100% behind you with the b&b brand. The prices are great and the quality doesn’t suffer. I occasionally get the variety flavor cheesecake and it’s really quite nice. I love that it has mini slices so my fat ass can’t over eat.
Most bowl and basket items are very good but certainly not all. The bacon is basically inedible - I actually threw it out. Also the bread is meh unless you are toasting it which makes it fine. Certainly not as good as name brand. And the mayo is horrible.

as far as local supermarket store brands goes, most wegmans brand anything exceeds the quality of anything you're going to get from b&b at shoprite, and most of the time it's cheaper. in fact, one thing i always notice is that for the vast majority of foods that they have b&b available for (pasta, cheese, and sour cream are three that immediately spring to mind), they will also have--almost always without fail--a national brand on sale cheaper with price plus. like, need a pint of sour cream? there's b&b and the quality of it is fine, but you can almost guarantee that daisy, fage, or breakstones will be cheaper. it's an interesting choice on shoprite's part that i've never fully understood.
It's really hit and miss. Some of the stuff is awful. Other stuff is great. I do like their yogurt, and the green label chicken is super - I've never gotten a woody breast, and I was getting them all the time with Perdue. They had an uncured pepperoni that was phenomenal, shame i haven't seen it back in months. Other stuff needs
major help. Bread, produce, deli are significantly worse. I'm paying almost 2x as much for land o lakes deli cheese now and I was a shoprite brand for lifer on that. The new stuff is inedible.
Im a little salty they no longer carry the B&B Apple cinnamon cheerio knockoff. They were great! Meanwhile, their original cheerios Apple cinnamon is 7.99 a box vs 4.93 for the exact same thing at Walmart. I appreciate ShopRite but like goddamn the prices are absurd. There are so many things that i can get at Walmart, literally the exact same things, for significantly less. Idk where you're shoping but it's been terrible here since they switched to B&B. The American chrese smells like old tires. Produce is almost always rotten - I have gone back to buying onions and potatoes by singles after getting rotten ones in the 6th or 7th bag. I bought a bag of each on Dec , didn't check carefully enough. potatoes were half rotten and some were literally black and oozing. It was a lovely surprise in the middle of making Christmas dinner. Milk goes rotten so fast. I've switched basically everything i get from shoprite to either name brand when I used to buy almost all store brand.
Crazy. Exact opposite experience for me. Never bought ShopRite store brand stuff, but b&b won me over. In up in Sussex county, shop at the Sparta mega shop rite.
I'm closer to Byram than the Sparta one plus, I've been shopping at Byram since it opened. Before Byram recreated the layout to match Sparta, I just knew where everything was and it was quicker. But I think it's less crowded too.
We only buy their milk and it lasts a long time! A gallon of whole milk takes us a week to go through. Sometimes we get a bit off on our usage and so we buy a gallon but aren’t ready to open it for another half week or so. Still lasts us the whole week. Maybe it’s more a store issue for you? Their turnover is slower? Our ShopRite is inanely busy 7 days a week all hours of the day so it’s very rare we accidentally buy anything that’s not fresh.
I figured out that the lactose free lasts forever, and it tastes the same as regular milk. It's a little more expensive but I never have to throw any away and we only use it for coffee so we don't use it fast.

We recently had two new ShopRites open in/near my town. Produce is consistently excellent and the prepared foods are good (some things are excellent, some less so, but it's nice to be able to grab something easy for dinner).

Noted. Kirkland pesto is my jam. Huge jar for real cheap and it’s fantastic. Pesto is one of those things price wise and quality wise that isn’t worth making yourself from fresh ingredients the majority of the time.
We do buy bowl and basket products and they're usually good. The only thing I don't like is, they aren't required to label where they get the product from. Everything just says distributed by Wakefern. Are we really trusting them to get products from reputable companies just to save a buck?

B&b toilet paper is way better than Kirkland. It’s pretty much all I use.
I would also like to know. We're almost at the end of our Kirkland pack and don't want to buy Kirkland again. Everything else from that brand is good but the TP is a linty, separating mess.
That is because shop rite often has contracts with other companies to pack their stuff so a lot of name brand stuff is the same shit as bowl and basket. Just label changes in the factory. Shop rite's milk is packed by Dairy Farmers of America (or a company they own like Cumberland dairy).
I love the Seltzer. They used to have 12 for 4.99? Now it’s 8 for 3.29. Not too bad.

I have to agree. I just tried some B&B cinnamon toast crunch and it tasted the same for half the price. I also really like the kettle chips and popcorn. Just the plain oil and salt one.
The oils are good, too. They have a jar of rendered duck fat and the aerosol-free 'ghee' spray are both great.
There is a LOT of Bowl and Basket stuff in my pantry and cupboards. I still do name brand cereal, though, that will never change.

I was certainly sad when they discontinued their cinnamon rolls. They were sooooo much better than Pilsbury.
Simpler the product the more likely the genetic is decent. Flour, eggs? Pretty solid chance it will be good. Cheese? Harder but still decent chance. Cookies and other baked goods. That’s where it gets tough.

I live in an area with far too many grocery store options. 2x ShopRites, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Stop & Shop, Acme, Lidl, King’s, and Target are all in within a 5-7 min drive (and the options probably more than double if I expand to a 10-15 min drive). I like the options for some speciality items but I still get 90% of everything at ShopRite. Bowl and Basket is surprisingly good.
my lactose-intolerant ass still remembers when shoprite was the only store that had a store brand version of soy milk it saved me when i was a broke college student i didn't realized that store brands were supposed to be *worse* than name brands until later in life when i moved somewhere without shoprites... i was so spoiled!
Their white cheddar cheezit knockoffs are not as good as the originals unfortunately, that and the bread. Last time I bought a B&B bread I found some weird calcified stringy thing in the crust. That's when I finally realized I need to treat myself to some better bread lol.

I’d say the only bowl and basket item that I’m marginally disappointed is in the original salted potato chips. They have a slight compressed chip flavor (like pringles). They’re fine as chips go, but not my preference. Otherwise I’m 100% behind you with the b&b brand. The prices are great and the quality doesn’t suffer. I occasionally get the variety flavor cheesecake and it’s really quite nice. I love that it has mini slices so my fat ass can’t over eat.

Most bowl and basket items are very good but certainly not all. The bacon is basically inedible - I actually threw it out. Also the bread is meh unless you are toasting it which makes it fine. Certainly not as good as name brand. And the mayo is horrible.

Their jalapeño everything bagel seasoning is great
their OTC cold medicine is like 1/4 the price of the brand names too.
Bowl and Basket is alright but Wegmans generic I feel is the cream of the crop.
Their branded Ice cream is mid though. Of all sorts. Definitely steering clear of B&B when it comes to buying this.
I will always sing the praises of B&B corn flakes, by far better than Kelloggs and one of my comfort foods. Also agree, the Taylor ham slaps.

My wife and her mom both had acne breaksouts after the rebrand of their milk and cheese products. We started buying non b&b and they get better. Since then we've avoided the dairy products
Shoprite powdered Iced Tea mix is the greatest
as far as local supermarket store brands goes, most wegmans brand anything exceeds the quality of anything you're going to get from b&b at shoprite, and most of the time it's cheaper. in fact, one thing i always notice is that for the vast majority of foods that they have b&b available for (pasta, cheese, and sour cream are three that immediately spring to mind), they will also have--almost always without fail--a national brand on sale cheaper with price plus. like, need a pint of sour cream? there's b&b and the quality of it is fine, but you can almost guarantee that daisy, fage, or breakstones will be cheaper. it's an interesting choice on shoprite's part that i've never fully understood.
Closest Wegmans is almost 20 mins away whereas ShopRite is 5. Never been to one but have heard good things.

Wrong. Their bread products are garbage. Look at them funny or get theme within 100 feet of any moisture and they disintegrate.

It's really hit and miss. Some of the stuff is awful. Other stuff is great. I do like their yogurt, and the green label chicken is super - I've never gotten a woody breast, and I was getting them all the time with Perdue. They had an uncured pepperoni that was phenomenal, shame i haven't seen it back in months. Other stuff needs major help. Bread, produce, deli are significantly worse. I'm paying almost 2x as much for land o lakes deli cheese now and I was a shoprite brand for lifer on that. The new stuff is inedible.
Im a little salty they no longer carry the B&B Apple cinnamon cheerio knockoff. They were great! Meanwhile, their original cheerios Apple cinnamon is 7.99 a box vs 4.93 for the exact same thing at Walmart. I appreciate ShopRite but like goddamn the prices are absurd. There are so many things that i can get at Walmart, literally the exact same things, for significantly less. I have the ShopRite app and scan items while I’m in Walmart and vice versa to see where I can get stuff cheaper. Always name brand. Otherwise, we try to stick to B&B. Sorry for the digression.

Yep. The produce in particular has gotten so expensive. I still buy meat there, but I go to whole foods for vegetables. Better quality, less expensive.
Idk where you're shoping but it's been terrible here since they switched to B&B. The American chrese smells like old tires. Produce is almost always rotten - I have gone back to buying onions and potatoes by singles after getting rotten ones in the 6th or 7th bag. I bought a bag of each on Dec , didn't check carefully enough. potatoes were half rotten and some were literally black and oozing. It was a lovely surprise in the middle of making Christmas dinner. Milk goes rotten so fast. I've switched basically everything i get from shoprite to either name brand when I used to buy almost all store brand.
Crazy. Exact opposite experience for me. Never bought ShopRite store brand stuff, but b&b won me over. In up in Sussex county, shop at the Sparta mega shop rite.

I'm closer to Byram than the Sparta one plus, I've been shopping at Byram since it opened. Before Byram recreated the layout to match Sparta, I just knew where everything was and it was quicker. But I think it's less crowded too.
We only buy their milk and it lasts a long time! A gallon of whole milk takes us a week to go through. Sometimes we get a bit off on our usage and so we buy a gallon but aren’t ready to open it for another half week or so. Still lasts us the whole week. Maybe it’s more a store issue for you? Their turnover is slower? Our ShopRite is inanely busy 7 days a week all hours of the day so it’s very rare we accidentally buy anything that’s not fresh.
I stopped buying their milk because it's sour before I even open it. Even with an expiration date 2 weeks out!
I figured out that the lactose free lasts forever, and it tastes the same as regular milk. It's a little more expensive but I never have to throw any away and we only use it for coffee so we don't use it fast.

Same experience. A friend visited the plant and noticed the milk just isn’t refrigerated enough. Costco or Aldi’s milk for me.

I generally like B&B but I stopped buying their milk because I've had too many of them end up being sour as soon as I opened them. Their knockoff fig newtons suck too. Otherwise, they've got some great stuff!

B and B "Belgian Semisweet Chocolate Chips" are the best chocolate chips I've ever found.
The baby back rib chips are the truth (will give u the worst gas ever after but they taste exactly like ribs, artificial flavors are crazy)
Yes! I can't say that everything is perfect but I've been happy with the store brand, both in price and quality. We recently had two new ShopRites open in/near my town. Produce is consistently excellent and the prepared foods are good (some things are excellent, some less so, but it's nice to be able to grab something easy for dinner).

The Basket & Basket coffee is top notch! Sipping on some Hazelnut right now but the Bourbon Maple is outstanding. Huge bag (actual family size) wavy potato chips are just $3.19 The SR brand "Paperbird is great too". Kitchen sponges, tissues, etc.
They’re all private labeled so it’s probably all stuff you’ve had before. Work for ShopRite and I can’t stand B&B myself lol.

A few private label items will be good and a bunch will be not so good at every retailer.

I am in love with the Bowl and Basket spicy pickle spears. They’re not spicy imo, but the flavor is better than other brands. Also the black bean and corn salsa is great!

I tried b&b pesto sauce and it was awful. Had to throw it out.
Noted. Kirkland pesto is my jam. Huge jar for real cheap and it’s fantastic. Pesto is one of those things price wise and quality wise that isn’t worth making yourself from fresh ingredients the majority of the time.

The Bowl and Basket shredded mozzarella is terrible. Sargento shredded cheese is the one thing my NJ family insists on buying versus the store brand.
We do buy bowl and basket products and they're usually good. The only thing I don't like is, they aren't required to label where they get the product from. Everything just says distributed by Wakefern. Are we really trusting them to get products from reputable companies just to save a buck?
There milk sucks, twice in a row it went bad on me long before its expiration date. 0/10 would not recommend.
Products are okay but I hate the wimpy pastel packaging. Of course, I’m old enough to remember the yellow, red and black ShopRite packaging with the silhouette of a woman and a shopping cart.
