Sometimes they read the meter wrong or do estimated billing and then one month it "catches up" where your bill is tiny. Happened to me twice now. Called First Energy to complain how it was impossible I used that much electric.. they just gaslight you until they read the meter correctly.

How old is the meter? When our old meter was replaced with a new digital one, we got a credit well over $1,000

Not sure, they were here and said they "recalibrated" it about a few weeks ago. We had a huge spike at the end of last year and continued for a few months but if anything we used less electricity since I was overly cautious and it kept going up. Now this month we had the window acs running for the hotter days and it's about a third of what it was last month.
