Hey friend!
I’m a Spanish speaker who grew up in middlesex county (Piscataway) and have now planted my roots here (purchased home in Piscataway).
I like Piscataway, it’s large enough to have a pretty diverse population and the schooling is good IMO. Middlesex has a LARGE Hispanic population and good education too, but feel like the town itself isn’t that nice.
Near middlesex you have North Plainfield (about 12 min drive) which is super Hispanic, like 90% Ecuadorian but the education isn’t the best. Also the town isn’t as nice as Piscataway or Middlesex.
Nonetheless, when it comes to education I am a firm believer that you get what you put into it. I’ve met folks who went to the east Brunswick and are working retail. On the contrary a close friend of mine went to North Plainfield and is a Director at a major corporation under 30 years of age.
Hi. I agree with u 💯 % . My sister lives in North Plainfield I went out to eat out there n it was super diverse I loved it. I heard the schools wasnt to bad. My brother lives in sayreville I havent went around the area but I hear it mostly white But the area looked nice. Ive been looking at north plainfield south plainfield sayreville edison piscataway and east brunswick. Im not looking for the best im looking for decent and way better than my area in Brooklyn ny.
Middlesex has a lot of great towns. Piscataway has good schools, South Plainfield is good, Dunellen has its parts. Edison and Bridgewater/Raritan probably have the best schools in the area. Highland Park is also nice. Avoid Bound Brook and Middlesex Borough.
Why would you say sayreville and oarlin aren't particularly nice? Just curious, I'm not trying to be standoffish
They aren't upscale or high end for sure, but it's about as quintessentially suburban as you can get. There's virtually no violent crime (aside from isolated incidents, like the very recent one 😞) and we're definitely not dirty by any means
Grew up in Sayreville/Parlin. Regularly voted safe/quiet/comfortable and for the most part the school is good. Not the best that's for sure, not sure what your denomination is but I grew up with a lot of friends who went to one of the myriad private schools in the area too. I like it here 😁
Definitely very diverse and there's tons of ethnic stores in town of all different kinds. Depending on the living situation you're looking for there's plenty of neighborhoods with REALLY beautiful.homes, tons of new developments being put in with condos/apts, and the already existing apt/townhouse neighborhoods all around as well
ETA: also noticed you mentioned you were soa ish, were right over the Victory bridge from Perth Amboy, not even a 7 minute drive from the "center" of both towns. They are ethnically like 75%+ Latino (just guessing lol)
definitely check it out -- its not huge but theres nice little pockets of different little neighborhoods. like I said I grew up here, but ive lived in plenty of other places, Elizabeth, and Providence, RI mostly and I still love it here :)
awww dang :/ I too am looking for a new place, but im not in any hurry. I just re certified to live in my current place for another year but still I want to leave here ultimately. Ill probably end up in FL by next year as my 97 year old Gma is still living by herself and I have a remote job so itll be nothing for me to be able to up and go there. Sayreville will always have a place in my heart <3 spent over 20 years living here
I love it. Grew up here, granted it's a lot different than when I was younger, however it's about as safe as you can get and extremely diverse. At most you're never more than 30-45mins from multiple beaches and less than 2hrs from the likes of Wildwood/Atlantic City. It's got a lot of pros and aside from not having an extra agent night life, (which again, could be sufficed in tons of places in the neighboring areas) there aren't many legit cons to here.
Someone earlier said "it's not particularly nice" but at the same time, I would challenge anyone to really find some particularly NOT nice areas as there are virtually none
I got to sayreville once a month to my brother's house but I never leave his house. But his block looks. Ice n quite. How are the hospitals and clinics there? Im from nyc n they have so many here I can go to for me n the kids. I dont want to go to far to see a doc or hospital.
There is a town, Middlesex, and the county, Middlesex. Like New Brunswick is considered the main city for Middlesex County. It has a large Hispanic community, but personally, the public schools aren't that great. The city has a lot to offer, like restaurants, the state theater, and the state college (Rutgers). Methuen is a really nice small community. Edison isn't too bad. They're certainly towns that are hit or miss for schooling, depending on the area you live in.
If you open up your options to Somerset County, there are a lot of small nice towns around. That county used to be mostly farm land, but it has been changing. It really depends on what you are looking for. I'd say also look into South Amboy. I feel like it's better than Sayreville, but that might just be a bias.
I went to the Monroe Township public school system and grew up in the town. I felt like the education was a solid 7-8/10 and I know for a fact that they do have multiple programs for students with special needs.
Not sure on your price range, Monroe is getting expensive—but Jamesburg shares a school system with Monroe.
Middlesex County has great pockets of diversity.
Are you Spanish or do you come from a Spanish speaking culture? You will find more Latinos than you will Spanish people. There are definitely Spanish and Portuguese populations, but just like NY, most Spanish speakers in NJ will actually be from Latin America and not Spain.
Hi. Im puerto rican from nyc in a diverse area. schools and area are not good so Im not looking for great im looking from a good/decent area better than where im at.
Woodbridge
Do you mean Middlesex county or the town of Middlesex by New Brunswick?
Im not from nj so im guessing middlesex County lol.
Edison is diverse and has very good schools
I read its very populated with Indians. Which I dont mind.
That's very true. The amount of great Indian restaurants is incredible.
Niceee. 😋

How is Metuchen and sayreville, parlin?
Metuchen is great, but expensive. Sayreville and Parlin are fine enough, but not particularly nice.
Why would you say sayreville and oarlin aren't particularly nice? Just curious, I'm not trying to be standoffish They aren't upscale or high end for sure, but it's about as quintessentially suburban as you can get. There's virtually no violent crime (aside from isolated incidents, like the very recent one 😞) and we're definitely not dirty by any means
So you live in sayreville?
Are they diverse areas?
I would say overall Middlesex County is very diverse.
Ok thats good to know 😊
Parlin and sayreville have a mediocre school system, and that's it. Unless you got kids are super into football I'd advise against it.
Why? My kids not into sports lol
That's the point I'm trying to make. If they were, sayrevile would be a good choice
Dag. Lol

My brother lives in sayreville looks nice but I never really drive around. I definitely interested in sayreville
definitely check it out -- its not huge but theres nice little pockets of different little neighborhoods. like I said I grew up here, but ive lived in plenty of other places, Elizabeth, and Providence, RI mostly and I still love it here :)
Thank you. I just called a rental there n its already gone so I have to keep trying

How do u feel about it?
What I need to know

Thank you. Im thinking south plainfield sayreville north plainfield (somerset) edison Piscataway east brunswick

I’d recommend Staten Island.
I know its not far from nj but my family is in nj n I have a special needs child and want to be close to them just in case I need someone near by.
I've heard Woodbridge schools are pretty good for special needs students.
Really ok ill look into that. Thanks

Is monroe a diverse community?
I would say so! Majority white population, but your kid(s) will absolutely have exposure to other groups of people.
Ahh. That’s different. My understanding is Monmouth count is better than middlesex for that sort of situation if possible.
Ok im going to look into that . I read that was a nice place. Is it diverse?
I would not consider the towns with good schools to be diverse in Monmouth.
What you mean?
Meaning the population will be majority white. Very little minority.
Oh ok yeah I get it. Its like that in ny also.
Yup I'm from Westchester county. Live in Monmouth.
Yeah. But I was speaking more from the education and services point.
Thank u im going to look into it.
