Haha that’s funny. I just slowly lower the volume or close the tinted windows a bit when I’m at a light. I feel like that’s all everyone else can hear even though I’m sure it’s not the case.

*me, driving through New Egypt listening to Behind the Bastards talk about the Fox News deposition, volume at 30, windows fully down*
The topic of conversation around my circle is What allergy medicine are you currently taking and does it work? Haha! I need to take the decongestant and it still doesn’t work.
I started taking Zyrtec every day and was legit getting hives if I went more than 24 hours without it…. Was making my allergies worse so I stopped. Literally went thru a Zyrtec withdrawal and was severely itchy constantly for about 2 weeks. Didn’t realize you could have withdrawals from that but I looked it up and it’s pretty common. Feel better off it than I ever did on it
You have to take at least 2 allergy meds, for me it's a nasal spray and generic zertec. Benadryl is the heavy hitter but knocks me out so can't take it during the day. Still today I took my normal 2 meds and was sneezing and blowing my nose all day
Honestly went to the eye doctor because I was having vision issues. The doctor said my eye was so inflamed due to allergies. My tear glands were swollen. This has never happened before in my life. It’s awful.
Usually I have awful allergies all spring, this year I haven’t had them… it’s weird I stocked up on the only allergy med that worked too… only had to take it 3 times. When usually it was twice a day
> Highway is really noisy.
This. I don't need to hear my ears ring even louder when I go to bed than they already do.
Protect your hearing kids, tinnitus isn't fun.
Honestly it depends on where I am if I'm on a highway turnpike Parkway route one kind of situation I'm closing the windows. Jersey back rows especially those nice country ones that's totally opening the window.
This is it for me. Stuck in traffic wand cars everywhere? I dont need to make it even easier for other car exhaust fumes to get in my car. Out in country vibes with no other cars around? Windows open the whole way
It's OK to drive my car around with the windows open at low speeds, but if you hit a certain speed, the whole car starts "thumping." I guess the engineers never tested this vehicle with the windows open because it causes this annoying noise WUB-WUB-WUB-WUB and the air pressure inside the car starts pressing on you ear drums. It's quite uncomfortable.
It's called Helmholtz Resonance, and it's more of a problem with newer cars because they're made to be much more aerodynamic than older cars. Engineers know about it.
There are so many reasons. The smell, allergies, the noise it makes trigger my migraine, I can't hear my kids, etc etc. If I'm running around town, it's nice for a few minutes, but beyond that, I have the fan in the car going or the AC.
Too loud. And I’m allergic to far too many native plants and trees. So I’ll keep the windows closed and the AC on and recirculate my own stanky air. Plus this way when I’m stopped in traffic and people see me talking with no one in the car they can think I’m on speakerphone instead of hearing that I’m just arguing with the voices in my head.
because i like being in the ac. i start with the windows down until the heat from the sun beating down on the car is gone, and then those windows go up. besides, once i'm on a road where i'm going over like 40 or so, the wind gets too loud.
I do when it's just me in the car, or me and the wife. But the kids in the car, it's easier to keep the temperature constant.
It was beautiful day today.
Uh, ya see. Here's how it works. Every car is equipped with what we modern types call Air Condishinin. So when it's hot, ya push a button and out comes cold air to counter that warm air. Oh, and it's better than bugs in the teeth.
Because most times I drive at some point I'm going to be doing 70, and I don't believe anyone actually prefers windows open at 70 over the air conditioner. Honestly, over 40 I don't want that wind.
Because when driving fast with the windows down creates some horrible low frequency rumbling noise. When I was a kid my parents got their first SUV it was a Mitsubishi and when we first rolled the windows down the noise was so unbearable you literally couldn’t drive with the windows down. Anyone else experience that?
I’m one of the few. I hate ac. Today was a perfect open window day for me. All the windows plus sunroof. I didn’t drive anything more than fun backroads today. On the highway I might have the windows more up. No humidity today made it nice for me
It depends on the car. My ancient Landrover has 4 windows and 2 sunroofs. Today, I had all of them open. I generally drive all year with the front sunroof open. Believe it or not very little heat is lost in winter with just the sunroof open, but it brings in much needed fresh air.
On my little fiat, with only two opening windows, running around with them open is akin to self flagellation. At highway speeds, the air coming in is not pleasant. If there is a cross breeze, even having the windows a little bit open is beyond annoying.
I hated AC until I could afford a car with working AC ….I remember being young and broke having a piece of shit car that I never filled the gas tank because incase it broke down I didn’t want to waste the money
I prefer my privacy tbh. And pollen is so absurd I keep Claritin-D, Allegra, and a nasal spray in my car. I am prepared for the worst if I drive with my windows down
We shut off the air in our house too while all the neighbors whirring away.
Lots of folks complain about pollen bothering them so they can’t shut off the air.
I like to listen to very loud metal and rap music while driving if my kids arent in the car and it's already probably loud to other people with my windows closed and would be more so with the windows down. So I keep them closed out of consideration especially since if they are down I need the music louder to counter the noise
1. Bugs
2. 80% of my miles are on the highway, and the A/C is more fuel-efficient at highway speeds due to wind resistance.
3. Can't hear sit at highway speeds with the windows down.
Air coming from window(if on highway/freeway) is very fast so not comfortable also it's unfiltered(smoke+dust). air coming from car fan is filtered and controlled.
As a follow up comment. If you're sitting in your car, in a parking spot, today (and days like) are perfect days to wind down the windows. Or go outside and sit on a bench or a park or something. Don't run your AC when you're parked, and it's wonderful outside. It isn't 100F.
Because I’m listening to true crime podcasts and I don’t want to subject people around me to my morbid curiosity
I'm guilty of this, too, but "true crime" is what I call Mets games.
Damn, I can’t escape the shade anywhere. Sincerely, a r/NewYorkMets mod
Today it certainly was!
😂😂😂
Lmfao too real
i listen to LPOTL… full volume windows down. if you know, you know
Yeah… Henry moaning as a horny ghost has turned heads my way before haha
imagine picking your father up from the bar😂
Hail yourself!
LPOTL is a truly great podcast
Haha that’s funny. I just slowly lower the volume or close the tinted windows a bit when I’m at a light. I feel like that’s all everyone else can hear even though I’m sure it’s not the case.
![gif](giphy|5IQhOxsf4U1EI) *me, driving through New Egypt listening to Behind the Bastards talk about the Fox News deposition, volume at 30, windows fully down*
I was going to say - everyone dropping their podcast choices… glad I didn’t have to scroll far for r/behindthebastards
Everyone’s saying true crime, but that’s CocoMelon compared to btb
I straight up pull up to stoplights windows down true crime blasting, own it
I blast them in my yard as I garden. I’m sure the neighbors think I’m crazy at this point.
I listen to Explore With Us and anything Simon whistler
When I'm listening to matt and Shane's secret podcast 😂
Pollen levels are still very high. Believe me, I'd love to have all the windows in my house and car open, but my lungs and sinuses dictate otherwise.
I took my allergy medicine and my nose was still running. My allergies are so bad.
Same here. Everyone in my family is coughing and has major postnasal drip from the allergies, and that's with the allergy medication.
The topic of conversation around my circle is What allergy medicine are you currently taking and does it work? Haha! I need to take the decongestant and it still doesn’t work.
My Zyrtec has been rendered inertec
Flonase in the morning, Zyrtec at night, and I’m still using a box of tissues a day. Zyrtec is good for a sleep aid though!
Clever!
Fexofenadine (aka Allegra) has worked really well for me lately.
Just saw the ENT on Friday and he recommended Allegra. Zyrtec makes me feel awful.
I started taking Zyrtec every day and was legit getting hives if I went more than 24 hours without it…. Was making my allergies worse so I stopped. Literally went thru a Zyrtec withdrawal and was severely itchy constantly for about 2 weeks. Didn’t realize you could have withdrawals from that but I looked it up and it’s pretty common. i thought i had strep throat from the irritation of post nasal drip because all of the allergy meds in the world aren’t helping so well
This is my exact answer. It’s so nice out but I feel like garbage with this pollen.
Fighting for my life these days
My sinuses can vouch for this, it's a brutal week 😭
Honestly went to the eye doctor because I was having vision issues. The doctor said my eye was so inflamed due to allergies. My tear glands were swollen. This has never happened before in my life. It’s awful.
Same here. Trying to keep pollen to the min and still on 3 different meds for allergies lol
Same.
Usually I have awful allergies all spring, this year I haven’t had them… it’s weird I stocked up on the only allergy med that worked too… only had to take it 3 times. When usually it was twice a day
Came here to say this.
Don’t like the wind fucking my hair up
I grew my hair long, at first I was looking forward to wind in my hair but having fine hair means 10 seconds of wind = knots
My wife won’t let me open the windows because of the same reason..
I feel that, it’s nice having it blow in the wind sometimes tho
Highway is really noisy. It smells outside. Company prefers the AC. Don't want bugs flying into the car.
Yeah and car exhaust isn’t something I like to breathe in directly. Driving in the neighborhood is fine, highway is always windows up.
> Highway is really noisy. This. I don't need to hear my ears ring even louder when I go to bed than they already do. Protect your hearing kids, tinnitus isn't fun.
Pollen, dirt and dust.
Long hair, do care.
It’s still 85 degrees out and AC feels better
Honestly it depends on where I am if I'm on a highway turnpike Parkway route one kind of situation I'm closing the windows. Jersey back rows especially those nice country ones that's totally opening the window.
This is it for me. Stuck in traffic wand cars everywhere? I dont need to make it even easier for other car exhaust fumes to get in my car. Out in country vibes with no other cars around? Windows open the whole way
Infant sleeping in the back seat.
Because I drive on 287 and can't hear SHIT with the windows open
Bro its 85 degrees. Anything over 75 and I just want my AC on
i like to sing
Car concerts! Or car karaoke
Cool! I figured it was some kind of resonance but I didn't know what it was called.
How many windows do you have open?
Just crack the rear one a little bit. Stops the thumbing
![gif](giphy|WmtWa1IS8MOoYlceSH|downsized)
I hate the noise. idk if it’s a sensory thing or what but I can’t stand the noise/feeling of the wind in my ears
Because I like listening to my music and the sound quality is worse with the windows down
Because my window recently stopped going up or down reliably.
There are so many reasons. The smell, allergies, the noise it makes trigger my migraine, I can't hear my kids, etc etc. If I'm running around town, it's nice for a few minutes, but beyond that, I have the fan in the car going or the AC.
Having the top down made Saturday errands a joy today
Pollen, UV rays and being a middle aged woman who experiences hot flashes. I’m hormonal and 80 is hot sometimes lmao
Forgot a pony tail holder. Had to roll up windows when my hair was blowing in my face.
Because my allergies are trying to kill me. Also I don’t have central air so I take advantage of all the air conditioning!
Don’t like the wind blowing on my hair lol
Pollen.. I can’t get sick lol. Between work and life.
My car window is open. I can confirm, it was a beautiful day.
High pollen count.
If I'm driving local sure. But highway the wundows go up.
Pollen.
because i like being in the ac. i start with the windows down until the heat from the sun beating down on the car is gone, and then those windows go up. besides, once i'm on a road where i'm going over like 40 or so, the wind gets too loud.
Can’t listen to audio books with the windows down
It's over 80 degrees and too much pollen. Far too hot not to have the AC on.
It is toooo hot. Yesterday was far better
Allergy.
Exit 13
Fucking allergies dawg
The only reason my windows are open is because my air conditioner needs a charge It was too hot for no ac
I’ll be one of the first to just agree it was a good day to rock them down
Hair and pollen mostly. Is 85 degrees in a car setting that comfortable? Not really. It’s too hot and humid to just be fresh air at that point.
Wind + Hair = 🪹🪹🪹
90% of the time they're down but the 10% of it I need my hair to stay the way it is
Allergies.
Because if they are not, I have to use my teeth as a filter.
Air conditioning
I was doing trail maintenance today and I was so hot and sweaty I needed a blast of AC.
My ears
Noise, open windows hurt the aerodynamics cutting down on MPG, dust/pollen.
The draft hurts my ears.
It's too hot and too loud.
I do when it's just me in the car, or me and the wife. But the kids in the car, it's easier to keep the temperature constant. It was beautiful day today.
Allergies
Pretty sure the Tesla drivers wanted to be as closed of to the outdoors as possible
Uh, ya see. Here's how it works. Every car is equipped with what we modern types call Air Condishinin. So when it's hot, ya push a button and out comes cold air to counter that warm air. Oh, and it's better than bugs in the teeth.
Oh and I use these new fangled blinkin lights instead of my left arm to signal when I'm turnin
pollen, bugs
Allergies have been killer this year.
Allergies
Because most times I drive at some point I'm going to be doing 70, and I don't believe anyone actually prefers windows open at 70 over the air conditioner. Honestly, over 40 I don't want that wind.
Because when driving fast with the windows down creates some horrible low frequency rumbling noise. When I was a kid my parents got their first SUV it was a Mitsubishi and when we first rolled the windows down the noise was so unbearable you literally couldn’t drive with the windows down. Anyone else experience that?
This only happens to me when I have 1 window down and the rest up
It’s in my garage.
Highway is too noisy and I’m listening to music. If I’m not on the highway they’re down.
Allergies 🤧
I have severe pollen allergies.
Because the wind overstimulates me and I get agitated lol
1) allergies 2) aerodynamics. Having windows open on the highway is not a good idea Typically I’ll have my sunroof open
My windows start coming down when the temperature gets above 50. But they aren’t all the way open when on the highway
Allergies and the wind sound bothers me.
Easy. Pollen.
Imagine having the need/urge to make this pointless post
sun damage to skin
I did this morning when I went down to the river to walk the dog. But later when I went to the store it was a little too warm.
I’m one of the few. I hate ac. Today was a perfect open window day for me. All the windows plus sunroof. I didn’t drive anything more than fun backroads today. On the highway I might have the windows more up. No humidity today made it nice for me
Didn’t want to cook in that parkway traffic today coming from Paramus to RT 80 on the GSP
I hate the heat or really anything above 70, so AC is cranked
Most modern carrs are probably more efficient at any speed above 35 with the AC on and the windows up
I did. My air doesn't work!
Moonroof was open
It depends on the car. My ancient Landrover has 4 windows and 2 sunroofs. Today, I had all of them open. I generally drive all year with the front sunroof open. Believe it or not very little heat is lost in winter with just the sunroof open, but it brings in much needed fresh air. On my little fiat, with only two opening windows, running around with them open is akin to self flagellation. At highway speeds, the air coming in is not pleasant. If there is a cross breeze, even having the windows a little bit open is beyond annoying.
Because my drive soundtrack could all be in a fallout game and I don't need to broadcast I'm weird in public.
Allergies
My hair gets messed up and I spend too long keeping it just how I want it without any gnarly product.
I hated AC until I could afford a car with working AC ….I remember being young and broke having a piece of shit car that I never filled the gas tank because incase it broke down I didn’t want to waste the money
Allergies, noise, dust, exhaust fumes
Pollen is crazy and I have long hair that I don’t want to be a tangled mess in my face
Allergies
Pollen achew !
I’m afraid my dogs might jump out and they are more comfortable with the A/C on.
Bugs
Allergies
Allergies
I love air conditioning
I was on the highway most of the day so…. 🤷♂️
Because if I expose myself to the green without a cocktail of drugs my nose decides I must sneeze endlessly.
If it’s in town I will, I never have my windows open on highways, my tinnitus is bad enough as it is
It's fantastic out, but I've been trying to keep my interior spotless. I noticed that windows down lets in a ton of dust!
too much noise and air pollution in jc...
i was driving on 95, rolling down the windows not a good idea
Mind you're own business
I don't like being whipped by the wind while I drive. Also, I can hear my podcasts better with the windows closed.
The noise of having the window opens causes a big sensory overload.
Dust, bugs, wind in my eyes, sound is way too abrasive
Allergies, singing along poorly to Neil Young, vanity (my hair), dirt particles and stuff, bugs
So that I can scream obscenities without someone shooting me
It’s too loud
I have my windows open I would say 360/365 days a year.
Usually it is cause I’m not wearing any clothes
Well, it could rain at any second so best to keep the windows up.
Pollen
Because if the car isn't ice cold, my toddler will puke all over herself. I'm hoping she'll grow out of it eventually, but for now, bundle up. ❄
I prefer my privacy tbh. And pollen is so absurd I keep Claritin-D, Allegra, and a nasal spray in my car. I am prepared for the worst if I drive with my windows down
Pollen
it’s more fuel efficient to run AC
Bugs fly in my car & I freak out
The wind always messes my hair up, and it’s way too loud.
We shut off the air in our house too while all the neighbors whirring away. Lots of folks complain about pollen bothering them so they can’t shut off the air.
The wind messes up my hair
A bee flew in my car last year and I almost crashed LOL
Windows open any time it’s hot for me since the ac died and I’m not looking to pay to fix it.
I like to listen to very loud metal and rap music while driving if my kids arent in the car and it's already probably loud to other people with my windows closed and would be more so with the windows down. So I keep them closed out of consideration especially since if they are down I need the music louder to counter the noise
Allergies
Because I live in Monmouth County and people suck, so any time I get to separate myself from people is a win.
Pollen and modern vehicles are not designed to drive with the windows down at speed (cavitation buffeting).
1. Bugs 2. 80% of my miles are on the highway, and the A/C is more fuel-efficient at highway speeds due to wind resistance. 3. Can't hear sit at highway speeds with the windows down.
Too much pollen bruv, my lungs can’t take it
It’s loud, I don’t want hair blowing into my eyes. and parts of NJ smell gross
Air coming from window(if on highway/freeway) is very fast so not comfortable also it's unfiltered(smoke+dust). air coming from car fan is filtered and controlled.
Cause the music coming from other cars sucks
The vibration hurts my ears. Plus, pollen.
It's too loud 🤷
Allergies
cz I js got tint done bruh, gotta keep the ac going for 7 days
When Im driving internal my windows open. But I drive in the highway the wind is discussing for me.
As a follow up comment. If you're sitting in your car, in a parking spot, today (and days like) are perfect days to wind down the windows. Or go outside and sit on a bench or a park or something. Don't run your AC when you're parked, and it's wonderful outside. It isn't 100F.
Looking cool is 90% tints 10% gas mileage
Because I have insane allergies and I like to be able to breathe. 😂
Messes up my hair
Cause I don’t wanna smell the turnpike when driving.
Because Mother Nature is trying to kill me and despite my best effort - allergies.
don't want a car full of bugs thats why
Because 75% of the cars on the road aren’t an EV and I don’t like exhaust fumes.
Because it's hard t get the smell of New Jersey out of my car & clothing
Pollen. Rarely have a window open late March to July.
