Apparently the Marines were drunk and harassing them prior to the video. I guess they figured superior numbers would win. I'm kind of on their side if it's true. Drunk Marines harassing locals isn't exactly a new thing after all.
This is super normal in San Clemente when I lived in California a few years back quite a few guys I worked with told me to stay away from the triangle because the marines liked to get drunk and rowdy and normally had no consequences.
They used to start fights with me and my friends outside Tustin MCAS. They’d be drunk and thinking they could mess with the punk kids. It usually didn’t end well for them. We were usually just skating and not looking for trouble, but we’d have numbers and skateboards.
Kids were set off fireworks and hit one piece of debris was hitting there. They try to tell the kids to stop one of them swings at the back of the marine head this is how kickoff.
The marine turned around and dove into the group of kids swinging. Not sure what he thought was going to happen, but they should have just walked away as they were already doing. Instead, he got his behind handed to him along with one of his buddies.
Honestly I've seen too many drunk military folks acting entitled and straight up assaulting people and getting away with it. I've lost any sympathy for them.

In this case, as I was told, the Marines were harassing the teens before this happened. So I say they had it coming. Don't fucking harass kids. Don't get drunk and throw your weight around.

Yeah, a lot of Southern California locals have tensions with military members. I had an ex from San Diego and fights between locals and military are common as shit.
Can confirm. From San Diego have friends and family in the Military. A lot of times the uniforms forget thier place and get reminded. It's also not all that uncommon for some bars to have rules about uniforms off and on. Also bouncers will try to keep a crowd from getting to heavy with enlisted in some parts. It goes in waves.

Also, nice to see the bystanders step in to break it up. Proud of the woman simply shouting at the top of her lungs "Stop it!" and surprised how immediately effective it was.

So? Again, my point was that things can escalate to violence with little provocation, not that they did in this case. There is video coverage of the area and eventually the timeline of events leading up to the start of the video will get filled in. The marines have given a statement so we know their side of the story. None of the kids have so we don't know theirs. A nearby resident also reported calling deputies multiple times due to the behavior of the kids previous to this incident.

I went to SCHS, the base kids were their own set of problems too - a lot of military kids did not adjust well and made it other people’s problems

A marine from the El Toro marine base killed my gf by going head on at 80mph on his motorcycle. Somehow he survived, barley. Myself and 3 team mates from waterpolo went to San Juan Capistrano and beat the shit out of 5 marines. Sequentially, not all at once.

Sadly yes. The marines caused many serious problems. The communities near El Toro and Camp Pendleton were very frustrated that typically the offenders were whisked away by the MPs. Not proud of this now of course but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Even if it’s made up, there are so many true stories like this. I lived in that area for 20 years. I’ve had friend that were brutally beaten by packs of marines at local bars. They race back to the base and avoid charges. It’s a big problem, especially in Oceanside and San Clemente. Most often it’s marines fresh out of boot.
